Does Samba in Solaris10U5 support DBCS share name?

Hi,
I configured in Solaris 10 Update 5 Samba to share a folder to Windows clients.
Locale in Solaris are: ja_JP.PCK
As a share name I added DBCS chars (Japanese localized chars).
In Japanese Windows XP this share is available but the name is currupted.
Does anybody know if this is issue or just Samba in Solaris does't support DBCS as a name?
Kind regards,
Daniel

• Does Safari on iPad support SNI (Server Name Indication)

Hi,
I am testing name-based virtual host with apache 2.2 over SSL and noticed that this is only supported using SNI (server name indication). I have updated openSSL to include the SNI extensions on the apache but the client browser is also required to support this. I wanted to know if there is any indication as to when SNI will be supported by the Safari browser on iPad and/or if anyone else has experienced this issue.
I know of 1 additional work around is to use wildcard certs but I am not to keen on using those unless I really have to.
I verified that this is not support by hitting the site: https://sni.volex.ch from the iPad safari browser - it fails. However, using Opera on iPad worked.
Thanks

From what I understand SNI is largely reliant on client support. It is just an extension of the TLS SSL protocol. One of our Escalation Engineers wrote up a pretty good post explaining SNI.
http://blogs.technet.com/b/applicationproxyblog/archive/2014/06/19/how-to-support-non-sni-capable-clients-with-web-application-proxy-and-ad-fs-2012-r2.aspx
"SNI is an extension to the TLS SSL protocol that allows the client to include the Hostname the client is connecting to in the SSL Client Hello. A server can then use the SNI header to determine which certificate to serve to the client. A key benefit
of SNI is that is allows a server to host multiple certificates on the same IP/port pair instead of needing an IP per certificate (assuming you are using port 443)."
A few questions I would have is what client and browser combination have you attempted on this? Also, are you using a wildcard certificate on your Web Listener? Have you taken network traces to see if client is sending SNI? Ian does a good job of explaining
how to do that in his blog post.

• There was a problem connecting to the server "Time Capsule". The share does not exist on the server. Please check the share name, and then try again.

The following error pop's up as an [OK] dialogue box after logging in the iMac,
There was a problem connecting to the server "Time Capsule".
The share does not exist on the server. Please check the share name, and then try again."
As it happens, a connection to the Time Capsule is established usually, anyway. On occasion it doesn't.
I have a Volume, Data, on the capsule, which similarly, usually mounts, but occassionally doesn't, with access permissions denied.
Any suggestions on how begin to work out how to achieve networking seamlesness?

First, restart the Time Capsule by disconnecting the power adapter and reconnecting it. If other devices on the network can see it, you can skip this step.
From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network
Click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the window and authenticate to unlock the settings, if necessary. Click the Advanced button, then select the TCP/IP tab in the sheet that drops down. Click Renew DHCP lease.
Try again to back up.
If you still can't, open the Time Machine preference pane and delete the TC from the list of backup destinations. You may have to unlock the settings by clicking the lock icon in order to do this. Then add it back.

• Why does my Share Name ID get reset every month?

With my personal account, I prefer to be identified on the receiving end as "WIRELESS CALLER". I can change this on my account. However, once a month my Share Name ID gets reset back to my account name. After updating this one a month for the last four months, I realize the problem is not on my end.
Verizon, what's up?
Thanks.

Hello, and thank you for responding. I really appreciate it.
The steps you specified are exactly what I have been doing, yet the account resets back to my name. To get it change back to WIRELESS CALLER takes the following steps and 48+ hours.
1) Once my account has been reset back to my first and last name, the Share Name ID screen shows no specific radio button being selected, yet shows the message:
Your name is currently displayed as "WIRELESS CALLER" on Caller ID enabled devices.
2) I select the middle radio button, my actual name (using your example) and click submit.
3) Wait 24 hours.
4) I return to the Share Name ID screen and select the WIRELESS CALLER radio button, then click submit.
5) Wait 24 hours.
A caller ID device now shows my name as WIRELESS CALLER.
The indeterminate radio button and incorrect text in step 1 is the key.
Thank you.

• Network share name keeps changing

I have setup my eMac to have the network share name eMac but it keeps changing into +eMac (2)+ does anyone know why?

well I do, but a short while later.
or some weeks or even month later, I can do it again.
this is a problem because I need to connect to it from my server.
the server is a Dell PowerEdge 1650 (I know, old, but it was cheap and it does the trick) which is running Linux Ubuntu Server 9.10 "Karmic Koala", since it's a server I did not install a DE(desktop environment) so I need to use the bash or shell (depending on what I do, since it has both)
how I connect it like this (on the sever):
+mount -t nfs "emac.local:/dev/macintosh HD" /storage/nfs/emac/+
the problem here: I use a DHCP, with DHCP reservation.
since I use DHCP reservation the IP should not change.
but the DHCP reservation doesn't really work correctly,
because of this, if my mac is offline (A.K.A off, I never disconnect it), the IP is in the pool, and thus can be assigned to a other computer.
since the IP may change depending on if it is on at a given time.
I need a way to always successfully identify my emac.
for this I use the network name.
and now it changes too!
which means that in order to find it I need to know if it still has the same network name, or what it's IP is.
I can find the IP from a web browser since it's my router who is my DHCP.
but the server doesn't have one.
so I'd have to use a other computer, since the router doesn't allow SSH/TELNET connections.

• Resource manager does not seem to support failover

The resource manager, TMS_ORACLE, does not seem to support SQLnet's transparent
application failover (TAFO). The way this supposed to work is that if the DB connection
is lost, SQLnet detects it, and establishes a new connection in accordance with
the 'failover_mode' settings in your 'tnsnames.ora' file. It works fine for Oracle
tools like sqlplus, and also for the Tuxedo servers we created. However, the resource
manager doesn't seem to detect the loss at all, which renders our application
useless. Anybody seen this one?

(in our case OCI programs) work perfectly after failover, XA
applications go at the same time crazy (mysterious OCI errors with
strange or no description repeated forever).
IIRC we also noted, that XA server is not provided with the callback
which inform about failing over. Probably it is provided to TMS_ORA.
Nevertheless, there is thing which seems promising: non-failover TNS
alias + setting the server to TPEXIT on (most) Oracle errors (so the
server restart on error and then choose the database which works).
But we did not perform any heavy testing, so in case you experiment
with it more, please share your experiences.
By the way: it is still very unclear to me what TMS_ORA does on
database failure. Using Oracle 8.0.* () I observed that TMS_ORA kept
running after database restart, rejecting all the transactions
received by the server (without even notifying it). Using Oracle 8.1.*
it is better (probably thanks to Oracle 'silently reconnect'
functionality), but ... it is Oracle who improved a bit. We even
opened support case asking for the clarification but the answer didn't
helped much :-(

• How to get the share name

Hi,
In my application user selects the file path using html file select and saves it. Other users should be able to open that file by just clicking that saved file path (i display it as a link). Now the problem is user maps the shared folder in network as x: or Z: etc. so when he choose the file path it will be saved as Z:\folder1\filename.txt . But i need to replace that Z: with the share name. Is it possible to do this? If so is there any method in jsp or javascrip?
Thanks,
Thanuja.

ya Baluc. I have used only servlets to download the file. the link which u provided for DownloadServlet was really useful.
Here the scenario is this.
User will just select the path where the file resides.
Say for eg: z:/folder/file
where the share name for z: is project.
Once the user selects the file path and submits, then the path alone is saved in DB and a message will be generated to Customer support department stating that the project has been completed and the file is in the path z:/foldfer/file
Now CSR opens the specified path and take the files (they do it manually). For them z: makes no meaning. If i save the path like projects:/folder/file then it will be easy for them to identify .
some user may map projects share to z: and some may map to h:
for this purpose only i asked and not for downloading the files. iam sorry its my very old post and i did not mention it clearly.
Thanks,
Thanuja

• 'Share Name ID' Terms and Conditions Questions

Sorry for the double post - I had originally, by habit, posted this in the Droid Razr forum, but realize now it would be better here.
I would rather have my Verizon number display my name than the generic "Wireless Caller" and the instructions for how toConfigure Share Name ID tell you how to do that. But my question has to do with the Terms and Conditions on that page which read:
Note the Terms & Conditions: Your use of Name ID Services is subject to the following terms and conditions. By submitting a name for display and disclosure to others you are affirmatively asking Verizon Wireless to give your name and wireless phone number to a publicly available directory for use and distribution and you agree and consent to disclosure and use of this information by third parties.
Can anyone tell me exactly what that means? Specifically, I have three questions:
Does it mean you are now in a public "white pages" type directory?
Does it mean your phone number will be shared with telemarketers?
And lastly, if you have chosen to keep your Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI) private and opted out, will using Share Name ID override that selection?
In another forum there's a lot of discussion about this and I'd like to be able to add some informed information as opposed to wild speculation.
So if anyone - especially a Verizon employee - can shed some light on what those Terms & Conditions mean (or don't mean), I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

I just got an answer to this from a very nice Verizon employee named Ryan. For anyone else who is interested, he said:
The Share Name ID service allows your name to show a specific or customized name when calling another person. The directory the terms and conditions are referring to are databases that landline companies use to provide Caller ID service. Landlines and cell phones process Caller ID in different ways. When you call a cell phone, whatever that phone has your number saved is how it shows on the display. Landline phones do not typically have a locally stored address book, so they rely upon these databases to give a name to display. The directory that is being referenced are these databases, used solely for Caller ID. They are not publicly accessible and searchable like a White Pages.
Opting in to Share Name ID will not override the CPNI opt out, they are two separate entities, and Verizon Wireless will not give your information to telemarketers. The only thing that will change with using Share Name ID is that your name(or whatever you choose) will show up whenever you call somebody instead of a generic "Wireless Caller" statement. Your privacy is still very much respected, and no alterations will be made.

• ITunes network Share-name ambiguity

I have several client PCs (all WinXP Pro SP3) on a server Domain network. Each client PC runs iTunes.
Because the iTunes network Share-name is the same as the user's PC Login-name, if you use the same Login-name on all the PCs (as I do) there is no way of differentiating their iTunes Libraries when using an enabled app such as iPhone "Remote".
For example, all Libraries are displayed as "roger's Library" on the iPhone "Remote" app. If the Libraries were displayed along with their Server-name, e.g. "SERVERNAME1: roger's Library", "SERVERNAME2: roger's Library" etc then this ambiguity would be resolved.
Does anyone know how I might resolve this and get iTunes to broadcast a fully-qualified Share-name? I need to use the same Login-name on each of the PCs because of email, profile etc considerations.
Thanks
Matt

You want something like this Doug's Apple Script that will work for Windows, it sounds like:
http://dougscripts.com/itunes/itinfo/ituneslibrarymanager.php
iTunes does a poor job of managing multiple libraries.
Unfortunately, all you can do is contact Apple:

• Does 10.6.8 support DHCPv6?

I saw in the release notes for 10.6.8 that IPv6 support was "improved." Unfortunately, I don't see any specifics as to what these improvements were. Has DHCPv6 support been added?
Anyone who uses OS X with IPv6 on a Cisco router will greatly appreciate not having to manually add their DNS IP address manually.

Kappy I do appreciate you taking the time to respond to my question, and I don't mean to sound rude, but that IPv6 test doesn't have anything to do with DHCPv6. Everything between your AEBS and your Mac was likely configured using stateless address autoconfiguation (SLAAC,) which is not DHCPv6.
Here's an explanation of the difference between DHCPv6 and SLAAC from the DHCPv6 wikipedia entry:
DHCPv6 is the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol for IPv6. Although IPv6's stateless address autoconfiguration can also be used to acquire IPv6 access, DHCPv6 may be a more suitable solution to assign addresses, nameservers and other configuration information as being done today with DHCP for IPv4. A notable case is Domain Name System servers used on a network, albeit other mechanisms exist for this in the Neighbor Discovery Protocol.[1]. At the time of writing, Microsoft Windows does for example only support the method used with DHCPv6 and not RDNSS with stateless address autoconfiguration.
The only reason I ask this question now is because IPv6 enhancements were reported in 10.6.8. From what I have seen in the packet captures I've done here, the "managed config flag" bit is set in the router advertisements, which means my MacBook should be using DHCPv6 for additional configuration, however it is not.
So basically all signs point to 10.6.8 still not supporting DHCPv6, but I was hoping that had changed with 10.6.8's IPv6 "improvements."

• Internationalization support for File Names

I want to know does it make sense to provide multilingual support for File Names. Say, I have a file called PurchaseOrder.pdf and it will be sent to users as an email attachment. We can localize the file name(for example, in Chinese: 订单.pdf).
But I want to know whether it is a standard to localize the file name. If not, should it be given in English, no matter which locale the user is using.
Thanks in advance

... hopefully you will not have to send another document to the same deliverer the very same day. Even if you add the minutes, a date tells you nothing about the contents. This is no problem as long as I receive nothing but purchase confirmations from you. But as a customer I will receive both sales confirmations and invoices, and then I think it's nice to see what the document is about.
By the way, a person working in an international trading company is supposed nowadays to understand the English words "purchase, sale and invoice", isn't it? Maybe in 50 or 100 years from now Chinese will be the lingua franca. So be prepared for a change ;-)

• Does IVI Step Type support NI PXIe-4112?

Hello, Guys
I have a PXIe-4112 and four of PXI-4130. When I try to configure my PXIe-4112 with the PowerSupply IVI Step Type, an error occurred.
An error occurred calling 'RunStep' in 'ISubstep' of 'zNI TestStand Ivi Step Types'
An error occurred while executing the step.
Component Works IVI Control Error: The IVI Configure operation failed for logical name '4112'.
Details: Attribute or property not supported. Attribute: NIDCPOWER_ATTR_OVP_ENABLED, Channel: 0 [IVI Error Code: BFFA0012]

Surely I disabled the 'OVP Enabled' check box at the Edit IVI Power Supply Step Dialog. My system configuration is,
IVI Compliance Package 4.6

My PXI-4130s are working well with the IVI Step type. Does IVI Step Type support NI PXIe-4112? Or am I doing something wrong about it?

Hi Joonam,
The PowerSupply IVI step will not currently work with the 4112.
The 4112 does not support OVP. If the NIDCPOWER_ATTR_OVP_ENABLED attribute is set to True, the error that you described is expected. If it is set to False, no error should be generated. However, an error is generated when it is set to false. This is incorrect behavior in the driver and has already been documented under Corrective Action Report (CAR) #437105. This issue will likely be rectified in a future version of NI-DCPower.
The PowerSupply IVI step is hard-coded to set the attribute to true or false, based on the value of the check box in the Limit tab. The workaround to this problem is to replace your PowerSupply IVI step with a step based on a code module that doesn't try to set the OVP_ENABLED attribute at all.
I apologize for any trouble that this has caused you. Let me know if you would like any further clarification.

• Does Java Access Bridge supports Java 6?

Does Java Access Bridge support Java 6?
Also where can I find 2.0.4 (Beta), the following link does not work -
http://java.sun.com/developer/earlyAccess/accessbridge/
thanks,
sachin.

Our company develops an applet that supports Jaws via the Java Access Bridge v.2.01. We've had no problems with JRE 1.6. However, Jaws does not read the accessible names when I tried JRE 1.7. It behaves as if the access bridge is broken. I reverted back to JRE 1.6.0_20 and it works fine again. I reported this to Freedom Scientific but they just said, "you will need to contact the Sun support team to determine the latest version of the JRE recognized by the Accessibility Bridge." They don't seem too concerned that their product may not work for many people in the near future.

I am trying to connect a Nokia N810 Internet Tablet to the Internet via Internet Sharing. The N810 only supports B and G mode WIFI. I can't get a connection. Does Airport Internet Sharing Support WIFI Mode G?
Yes.
I've used my 802.11b/g/n capable MacBook to share an ethernet connection with my 802.11g ONLY iPod Touch.
Does the N810 see the network?
Does any other WiFi capable device in your home see the Internet Sharing SSID?
Did you give your Internet Sharing a password? Internet Sharing uses WEP for encryption, and the rules for creating the WEP Hex key from a text string password are different for Macs vs everyother WiFi device in the world. 1st try no password. If that works, then move on to using a simple 5 character password for 40/64 bit WEP, or a 13 simple password for 104/128 bit WEP.
