Does Santa Rosa MB Pro support portrait mode on an External?

A MacInTouch post says no.
I'm now using a 17 in. G4 with an NEC 1980SX external that rotates.
The display settings in my Tiger System Preferences allow me to rotate the display 90 degrees which makes working on 11x17 documents much easier.
I want the new 17 in MacBook pro but no support for portrait mode is a bummer.

For clarity on the external portrait display issue:

Yeah, I have clarity...that's my post.
I now need someone to prove it by actually trying it because I also need portrait support.

  • Design Limitation On ALL Santa Rosa MacBook Pros, 2.2 and 2.4 GHz

While searching the Internet for answers to my new $2500.00 MBP headphone (output jack) has audible hissing sounds I found several posts on Macrumors.com and macintouch.com to explain the design Limitation/Problem. To summarize:
    The Problem
The issue has three components, as described in this MacinTouch Report:
    - A low hiss that is constant whenever the audio circuitry is on
    - Static that occurs whenever anything is playing... even something quiet.
    - A series of high-pitched noises that occur somewhat randomly. The best comparison I've seen is that it's like listening to those hearing tests where you raise your hand when you hear a tone.
The problem only occurs with low-impedance headphones (more on this below).
    Some Facts
    - The problem occurs on ALL Santa Rosa MacBook Pros, 2.2 and 2.4 GHz. It is a design flaw on Apple's part, and returning your machine for a new one will not help. There are plenty of people who say they can't hear the noise, but those people either have high-impedance headphones or speakers, or just don't have very good hearing.
    - Only Santa Rosa MacBook Pros seem to be affected by this particular static problem. I've seen some reports of other machines having audio issues, but they are always different.
    - The 'Audio Update 2007-001' that Apple released about two weeks ago doesn't fix it. It does fix a popping problem on all Intel Macs (including the SR MBPs), so it's worth installing, but that is a different problem than this one.
    - It does seem to be an Apple-specific problem; I've been unable to find any other reports of non-Apple Santa Rosa notebooks having the same problem.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue with their new MBP?
    Thanks,
    B

I experience the issue as well both in OS X and when I'm in Windows Vista.
Whenever a program uses audio, there is an annoying high-pitched hissing noise from the built-in speakers.
Of course the severity of the problem depends on the individual hearing ability, but everyone I have asked, have been able to hear the noise.
Apple is known to be the first choice of audio professionals; however this problem is below that standard.

  • Xcode3 Completely Freezes Leopard 10.5.3 on Santa Rosa MacBook Pro

    Hi
I am recently workin on a software project on Xcode3 (with all the latest Updates)
with great disappointments i found out that very often (not every day or every time i use it) while in the process of editing source files the leopard user interface completely freezes (something like a kernel panic happens) and the only thing i can do is to force a shutdown.
it happened to me at least 10 times (sometimes more than one time a-day). i have had user interface freezes before while using other applications but that i'm not having them anymore, the problem clearly re emerged by using xcode (which i never used before)
i suspect it has to do with bugs in the graphics drivers for the GeForce 8600M GT graphics chip that is used by my Core 2 Duo Santa Rosa Macbook Pro (2.2 Ghz) and that Mac Os 10.5.3 Still has not fixed
Anyone has the same problem? or any idea?
    Thanks

It happened once again while i was copying (Apple-C) a selected line of code on the Xcode Source file Editor
I officially submitted tha Bug Report to Apple (Bug ID# 5985528).

  • Does the new mac pro support the Apple cinema display

Does the new mac pro support the Apple cinema display

There is no 2007 23" Cinema Display
There is a 2002 23" display that has the Apple ADC connector
    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/09/AppleDisplayConnector.jpg
There is also the 2004 23" display with a DVI connector.
For the latter you just need a mini display port to DVI connector that plugs into the Thunderbolt port
For the former you need that connector plu an DVI to ADC connector

  • Does firefox 27 beta 2 support metro mode?

Does firefox 27 beta 2 support metro mode. If yes, how to use in metro mode? Because, it is still opening in desktop mode even though it has all defaults

The Metro mode is currently available on the Aurora and Nightly channels only. For more information, see [[How do I install Windows 8 (Metro-style) Firefox?]]

  • Does Apple Pay setup with camera support portrait mode credit cards?

I have a credit card that the front face is in portrait mode instead of the traditional landscape view. I tried to used the camera to setup this card in Apple Pay but it would recognize it. I had to set it up manually so I could use that card. I was wandering if Apple Pay camera setup is compatible with those types of cards.

WiseJD, that's a good way to test the theory, I agree.  But I'm not really blocked on doing anything here, this is more about technical curiosity.  So I don't plan to try that test, since signing out of iCloud means iCloud photos and docs get deleted from the phone and I'd have to get them downloaded again later.  The hassle exceeds my level of curiosity.
However, a co-worker pointed me to the iOS Security Guide (Apple Pay starts on page 24).  The second paragraph on page 27 says, "This allows iOS to instruct the Secure Enclave to render cards unusable by marking its copy of the AR as invalid under the following scenarios:
    When the passcode is disabled
The user logs out of iCloud
So there is some connection to one's iCloud Apple ID.  The connection appears to be quite minimal, but I accept this as sufficient circumstantial evidence that for users with two Apple IDs, one iCloud and one iTunes, the iCloud Apple ID is the one Apple Pay looks at when deciding whether to offer to include your existing credit cards.
I'll stick with that as my theory unless someone presents a counterexample.  That is, if someone says they use separate Apple IDs on their phone for iCloud and iTunes, they have no credit card in the iCloud account, and Apple Pay *does* offer them the chance to, "Use Card on File with iTunes," (from their iTunes Apple ID).
    Thanks.

  • What discs come with the current (Santa Rosa) macbook pros?

I own a Rev1 Macbook Pro (but that's not really important). I convinced my friend to get a new Macbook Pro. She loves it. But she did something somewhat silly. She asked me what the discs were for that were included in her box and I told her they are only to reinstall the included software. Anyway, she was looking for Comic Life and she concluded it must be on the cds, so she ended up reinstalling Mac OS X! But now the installer is asking for Disc 2 which she can't seem to find...
Now it was my understanding that the OS came on 1 dvd, not two. There are additional parts on another disc for things like Xcode and whatnot, but the main installer should only need 1 disc, correct? Does anyone happen to recall where the second disc is found? I seem to believe it's actually in the same sleve as disc one but she says it isn't.
So yeah maybe the packaging has changed or maybe my memory isn't that great. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I own a Rev1 Macbook Pro *but that's not really important*.
It may be important, if she asks to borrow your DVDs. The OS X Install DVDs for the Intel Macs are machine- and build-specific. So your Install DVDs for a pre-Santa Rosa MBP will most likely not work on an SR machine.
However, if she's missing disc(s) she can call AppleCare and they will send her replacement(s) for a nominal charge (something like $30, I think).
You might also point her to this link:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301229
which describes how to do a custom installation. For apps, etc., not listed there, she could use Pacifist:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
to extract them from the Install DVDs.
    Hope this helps...
Ps. the iLife suite that was pre-installed on the Mac is located on Install DVD 2.

  • Everyone with a santa rosa macbook pro..

did the wireless fix sort the issues out!? i really need to no. without the wireless working on my macbook pro when i get it in a week..itl be useless!
    everyone whats going on???

MBP Santa Rosa 17", now four days old, officially. Forgot completely about all the wireless/networking problems cited here, and, therefore, just joined my household network (LinkSys) Wednesday afternoon without thinking.
    Everything went perfectly.
Took said MBP to another location this weekend (wi-fi'd marina), again forgetting about the potential problem joining that setup . . . but no difficulty again.
Hope I'm not the exception. LOVE THE NEW MACHINE thus far: no display problems, no wi-fi problems, no kernal crashes, no nothing. Fingers crossed and smile on mouth!

  • What graphics cards does the original Mac Pro support?

I am thinking about buying a used original 2007 Mac Pro. This Mac Pro would not come with a graphics card, so I am obviously responsible for finding one for it. I found a Radeon HD 5770 that I like on Newegg, and want to know if it would work with the Mac Pro. I really can't imagine it not, but don't want to toss a piece of hardware in my new machine that won't work.
Here's the graphics card in question: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127490
So, will it work? If not, is my only option for a 5770 the one that is available on the Apple Online Store? What other cards does this Mac Pro support?
    Thanks, guys (and gals)!

    http://forum.netkas.org/
    http://myworld.ebay.com/macvidcards/
Apple's 5770 $249 for now is the 'safe' but not best in price and whether you want to run OS X ____ ? limits you also, so unless you run 10.6.5 or Lion even the 5770 is out

  • Does the latest Macbook Pro support Apt-X bluetooth for hi-fi audio?

    Hi
I have read that the latest Mac Mini supports Apt-X Bluetooth for high quality audio transfer, and that Apple is introducing this technology as standard in its products, but am wondering if the mid 2010 Macbook Pro also supports this?
If not does anyone have experience using either the Creative or Sennheiser USB dongles with the Macbook Pro? I am hoping to use the QED LIVE uPLAY receiver which supports Apt-X with the Macbook Pro, and would be interested to hear about other people's experience of this device or similar devices.
    Thanks
    Nick

If you check out the teardowns on ifixit.com, it would seem that the Macbook, Macbook Pro and Mac Mini all use the same Bluetooth + 802.11n part from Broadcom: BCM943224PCIEBT.
I'd imagine that if the hardware and software are the same that bluetooth support of these 3 machines should also be the same. However, I can't find any evidence for or against this. Perhaps people with these machines could test it out. Better yet, perhaps makers of apt-x supporting headphones could test this out as it may help sales. Best yet, perhaps Apple could state this on their tech spec pages if indeed these machines support apt-x...

  • Does the OffficeJet 8500 pro support auto duplex printing on card with weight 256gsm or higher?

I'm looking for a printer with comparable print costs to the officejet 8500 pro but which will allow me to auto duplex print onto card so I can create colour postcards.
Will the 8500 pro handle this reliably, or is there a better choice?
    Thanks

Here's some screen captures from Cinema Display 30".

BTW, what is that cool launcher like program you have on the bottom of your screen where the dock usually is? And how did you get a floating dock on the right? Really cool!
It's called Dragthing and it's the one piece of shareware I always install.
I absolutely love it. It cost $29 dollars, and there is a downlaodable trial version.
The dock on the top right is called "The Process Dock" and shows whatever you have running.

  • Does iPhoto on the iPad support the use of an external editor?

I would like to use an external editor in iPhoto on my iPad, but can't seem to find anyway to do this.
    Is it supported?

iPhoto for iOS is not quite like the desktop version. It does not have the ability to directly send photos to an external editor but the photos it shows are simply your camera-roll photos. Any photo editor app should have access to your camera roll and all your photos. When you save out an edited photo you'll simply get a new photo added to your camera-roll it will not repalce the original. As long as the editor app you are using saves out to the camera-roll iPhoto will be able to read those newly edited photos.

  • Video support: resolution, portrait mode and aspect ratio

I have been playing with a friend's PowerPC-based mini (while I wait for Leopard to come out) and have some pre-purchase questions:
    1) Do the current Core 2 Duo mac mini models support the VESA standard Preset Timing Mode of 1680 x 1050? (That's not listed on his older mac mini and would affect my choice of monitor.)
    2) Does the current mac mini support portrait mode with any monitor at all?
    3) The specs list maximum resolutions of 1920 x 1200 (16:10) with DVI and 1920 x 1080 (16:9) with VGA. I'm guessing that is related to bandwidth of the cable and does not mean that all output to DVI would be at the 16:10 aspect ratio and all output to VGA would be at the 16:9.

    mexibeetle,
As far as the resolution of 1680x1050 I cannot answer you. I have a Power PC mini as well as an intel mini. The resolutions available change based on the display connected, but neither of mine offer that particular resolution (the 17" monitor I have does not go that high on the PPC mini via VGA and the intel mini is hooked up to a 40" LCD TV via HDMI...those resolutions are either 1600x900 or 1920x1080)
Neither my monitor nor my HDTV list that particular resolution (1680x1050) as being available, regardless of what they are connected to, so I cannot say whether or not the mini is capable of driving a screen at that resolution.
As to portrait mode, on both the older and newer minis in the display preference pane there is the option to rotate your image...90, 180 and 270 degrees. Mounting your monitor horizontal or vertical should not pose any problem as far as I can see.
