Does SCOM 2012 monitor "Persona File Handles"?

Hi,
I have query whether SCOM 2012 can monitor "Persona File Handles"? Plan is for monitoring threshold limit of 3 lacs file handles on HVDs. If it can be monitored, the alert should be triggered only when it reaches 3 lacs file handles.
We have SCOM 2012 SP1
Please answer asap.
Thanks,
Naren.
Thanks & regards, Naren.

I would suggest you look into the veeam MP for VMWare http://www.veeam.com/management-pack-system-center-resources.html
I'm not to familiar with "Persona
File Handles"  but if there's a command you can run to check it then it can be scripted and thus monitored by a custom monitor.
Cheers,
Martin

  • Does SCCM 2012 monitor SCCM 2007 as well?

I have a SCOM environment and I have two SCCM environments - one is 2007 and the other is 2012R2. We are migrating from 2007 to 2012R2. I have both SCCM 2007 and 2012 MPs imported.
One thing I've noticed is that all the objects from the 2007 MPs are labeled ConfigMgr 2007, while the objects from the 2012 MPs are just labeled ConfigMgr. And when I create a subscription to send all alerts on ConfigMgr (I filtered to only show objects
in Microsoft.SystemCenter2012.ConfigurationManager.Library MP) it will send out notifications for all SCCM alerts.
So does the 2012 MP monitor 2007 as well? And if so, how can I create a subscription to only notify for 2012? I currently set up the subscription directly against the 2012 servers, but I'd like to have it go against the application instead.
    Thanks.
    - Get on the floor, do that dinosaur

Yes, we have Exchange. But it doesn't make sense that a subscription criteria set to the ConfigMgr application would send alerts regrading Exchange. Maybe because the SCCM client is installed on those servers...?
False alerts as in SCOM thinks one thing but its not actually the case. For example, thinking that an Exchange server is a SCCM server. And Alerting on SCCM 2007 instead of 2012.

  • SCOM 2012 monitoring IIS - windows updates generate SCOM alerts

We are using SCOM 2012 to monitor our environment. There is a logic implemented to suppress alerts (using maintenance mode) when Windows Updates cause system reboot.
    We followed:<o:p></o:p>
    http://operatingquadrant.com/2009/08/15/scom-automatically-starting-maintenance-mode-when-servers-are-rebooted-for-patching/<o:p></o:p>
Basically when in system event log event id 1074 appears then system is put in Maintenance mode. There is a problem with some IIS web servers - they
generate a lot of alerts when Windows Updates are installed (e.g. Microsoft Windows Internet Information Services 2003 Application Pool is Unavailable)
and before windows reboot. In details:
5:08 AM - Windows update installation in event log (event id 19)e.g.
Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update: Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008 x86 (KB2972106)
5:09 AM - SCOM generates alerts: Microsoft Windows Internet Information Services 2003 Application Pool is Unavailable
5:17 AM - event id 1074: The process winlogon.exe has initiated the restart of computer. SCOM put this server in Maintenance mode.
After 5:17 AM no more alerts generated by SCOM
We cannot change our logic and put system in maintenance mode based on event ID 19 (windows update installation) because there are a
lot of event ID 19 events generated almost every day. So we do not want to put our server in maintenance mode each time when windows updates are installed. Just when windows update installation cause some IIS features stops. Any idea?

  • An index of my desktop files appears in firefox. why is it there? does this mean my personal files are accessible from the internet? how can i make sure this goes away and stops?

i am seeing and index of my personal files on firefox. what is this? why is it there? how can i make it go away? does this mean my desktop files are on the internet? can someone explain clearly and simply (i am not tech saavy at all) thank you

This issue can be caused by an old bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or (bitmap) fonts that Firefox can't display in that size.
Firefox can't display some old bitmap fonts in a larger size and displays gibberish instead.
You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.
Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or see if you can find a True type version that doesn't show the problem.
There have also been fonts with a Chinese name reported that identify themselves as Helvetica, so check that as well.
Use this test to see if the Helvetica font is causing it (Copy & Paste the code in the location bar and press Enter):
    <pre><nowiki>data:text/html,
    Helvetica<br><font face="Helvetica" size="25">abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ</font><br>
    Helvetica Neue<br><font face="Helvetica Neue" size="25">abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ</font>
    </nowiki></pre>
You should reset the network.http prefs that show user set on the about:config page.<br />
Not all websites support http pipelining and if they do not then you can have issues with images or other problems.

  • SCOM-2012 monitoring queries

    Hi Experts.
Based on your experiences and suggestions I achieved lot on SCOM design. I have few queries about Monitoring.
    (a) Can we push agents in work-group servers using SCOM management console or we need manual installation.
    (b) Is SCOM capable enough to monitor Non-Windows platform which are part of work-group or we need to import MPs for Linux/Unix/Oracle/Jboss/Apache?
    (c) Can we monitor/intimate/alert to monitoring team if new machine is a member of domain and monitoring is not started (may be agent is not pushed). Lets consider a newly installed/configure server but not added in monitoring system. Can SCOM detect new
domain member and send alert saying this machine is not yet monitored.
    (d) What is the best way to use Certificate for work-group servers. PKI or local Certs? How to handle certificate expiry issue? Need to follow all steps again?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    a) No, you can't push. Also - you must install and configure a certificate - it's a manual process too.
    b) You need to import MP for everything you want to monitor. No MP - no monitoring. *nix MPs are not imported by default.
    c) Technically - yes, you can. But you have to develop your own management pack for this task.
    d) you can't use self-signed certificates. You need to by a certificates from the commercial CA or deploy your own CA.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/certificate-enrollment-for-system-center-operations-manager-agent.aspx
    >Need to follow all steps again?
Yes, you need to renew a certificate.

  • BCP does not leave output file handle

We are executing BCP utility to bulk load files into tables. The utility is spawned from dll (C# code) with following parameters
    Complete_Table_Name + " IN " + Input_File_Name + " -S" + Server_Name + " -U" + Username + " -P" + Dec_Password + " -c -C RAW -e " + Error_File + " -o " +
    Output_File + " -h TABLOCK "
Note that the output file is created on a network location.
The utility is spawned with the following code
                Process BCP_Process;
                BCP_Process = Process.Start(BCP_Path, BCP_Parameters);
                BCP_Process.WaitForExit();
After the bcp process completes we open the log file as below
                StreamReader sr = File.OpenText(Output_File);
This piece code randomly fails with the below exception
System.IO.IOException: The process cannot access the file '<network-path-to-the-output-file>' because it is being used by another process.
It seems that the BCP utility does not release the handle to the output file and hence we get the exception. I understand that opening the file can be opened by using another FileStream constructor in READWRITE fileShare mode, but I wanted to understand why
does bcp hold the output file handle or is there something incorrect in what we are doing?
We monitored the network location for file creations, modifications and deletes. I saw that the log file was created, modified and deleted multiple times during a single bcp invocation.
What could be the reason that the output file is created, modified and deleted multiple times during a bcp execution?
    Thanks.
    Technet Forum Issue

I have absolutely zero time to research this now, but if you run BCP synchronously and wait for it to complete, it can not be holding any locks on the file. It must be something else, for instance an anti-virus scan.
Why the output file opened and deleted multiple times during execution, I don't know.

  • SCOM 2012 R2 Domain Functional Requirement

    Hi
We are planning to deploy SCOM 2012 R2 in our environment. We are running Windows 2012 AD and have Domain and Forest functional levels of
Windows Server 2012 R2. The Environmental prerequisites stated on Technet article
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh487285.aspx under section "Domain Functional Level", following description is provided:
Windows Server Active Directory can operate at different functional levels. These levels are distinguished by the version of the Windows Server operating system that is permitted on the domain controllers present in the domain. System Center 2012 – Operations
Manager requires that the domain functional level be Windows 2000 native, Windows Server 2003 interim, Windows Server 2003, or Windows Server 2008. The domain functional level of Windows Server 2008 R2 is also supported (for the SP1 version of System Center
2012 – Operations Manager, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and Windows Server 2012 are supported). For System Center 2012 – Operations Manager to function properly, you must check the domain functional level and raise it to the appropriate version.
This description does not includes Domain Functional Level of Windows Server 2012 R2.
Does SCOM 2012 R2 supports domain and forest functional levels of Windows Server 2012 R2?
    Thanks
    Taranjeet Singh
    zamn

    Yes.
I has a SCOM 2012 R2 deploy in domain with forest and domain functional levels of Windows Server 2012 R2 and it work fine. Moreover, SCOM monitoring is more depend on kerberos encrpytion of data transfer rather than functional level.

  • SQL server instance not getting detected during SCOM 2012 R2 Installation

    Hi All,
This is related to the below thread which i created. But i wanted to test this practically in a LAB equipment
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/96feece7-c168-4f42-b62e-4c0c20f8d525/does-scom-2012-2012-r2-setup-detect-a-sql-instance-of-a-sql-server-in-the-same-network-which-is-in?forum=operationsmanagerdeployment
So i want to install SCOM in my domain, But i want to use a SQL server in my network which is in another domain.
So i have 4 server machines as below:
    SERVER_DC1 - Domain controller of 1st domain.
    SERVER_DC2 - Domain controller of 2nd domain.
SERVER_SQL - SQL server 2012 Enterprise installed for SCOM but is in Domain 1
Server_SCOM - I want to install SCOM in this but which is in domain 2
I created a trust relation between 2 domains with a Forest trust 2 way transitive.
I have created a security group and added that as SQL Admin during the installation. Later i added one Domain administrator account from Domain 2 to this security group.
When i do a installation in SERVER_DC1 for testing the SQL instance is being detected as below.
When i do the installation in Server_SCOM which is in another domain then the instance is not getting detected.
I have turned off windows firewall in all the machines.
Before creating the trust i ran the setup in Server_SCOM then it was giving me a warning saying it is not able to access the SQL server due to permission issues.
After giving permissions my instance is not at all getting detected.
    Can any one help plz.
    Gautam.75801

    Hi Yan Li,
Really a helpful post. I tested the connection. I connected to the SQL server in Domain A using a server in domain B logged in as a domain B user to whom the SQL permissions are provided. The result says It was successful.
    Below is the screenshot.
I don't understand why is it not getting detected in the SCOM setup.
But 1 more important thing which i forgot to mention.
When i log on to the server in which i want to install SCOM in domain B, But by using Domain A's user account (Added as a local user in SCOM server in domain B), Then the Instance is getting detected.
Below is a screenshot of that.
So has any one faced such a type of issue ?

  • SCOM 2012 Network Monitoring Does Not Show Servers

We are testing out the network monitoring piece in SCOM 2012 but for some reason it never does show the servers.  We have a test switch with a monitored server connected directly to it but after the discovery completes it doesn't show the server as
being connected.  The switch in question is a Juniper and if you look at the diagram view for the device it does show all of the ports under "not monitored" and the Processor and Memory under "Healthy."  The following event sequence shows up in the
    "Network Discovery Progress Events" view:
Full Discovery Started for 1 request(s)
Proceeding to discover all systems in repository
    Probing <<IP Address 1>>
    Probing <<IP Address 2>>
Probing completed for <<IP Address 2>>
    PostProcessing started
Probing completed for <<IP Address 1>>
    PostProcessing completed
    Switch::<<IP Address 2>> discovered successfully
    Switch::<<IP Address 1>> discovered successfully
Discovery Completed / Devices discovered: 2 / Windows computers filtered: 0 / Devices in pending list: 0 / Devices excluded: 0
No devices were found in filtered list after discovery
    Start processing connections to computers
Finished processing connections to computers. Number of connections made: 0
I've been trying to find some documentation on any other settings that are required to get network monitoring to work as advertised but so far I have struck out.  Help!

Sorry Matt - you did say that very clearly in your previous post. I'll try and do better this time ;-)
    From here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh212935.aspx
    From here:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/momteam/archive/2011/09/20/what-gets-monitored-with-system-center-operations-manager-2012-network-monitoring.aspx
"An agent computer that is directly connected to a device will have the connecting interface added to this group.  For this to work the management group must have the Windows Operating System management pack for the agent’s operating system, the Windows
Client Network Discovery management pack and the Windows Server Network Discovery management pack. The full discovery of the agent’s operating system has to be completed including the discovery of the agent’s network adapters. Then when network  discovery
runs for the device it should stitch the port on the device to the network adapter on the computer and add the port to this group."
    So possibly:
    - check the management packs specified are imported
    - check the the agents network adapters have been discovered
    From here -
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh212935.aspx - it is also possible to do this for non-scom monitored servers.
"Ports that are connected to a computer are not monitored; only ports that connect to other network devices are monitored. You can monitor a port that is connected to a computer that is not agent-managed in the same management group by adding the port to
    the Critical Network Adapters Group."

    Dear Experts,
In our environment we need to SCOM have monitor profile of NTuser.dat file growth in all citrix servers, This file is presented in the path of  “C:\Documents and Settings\ctx_cpsvcuser\NTuser.dat”. when this profile is reached 10 MB
size then SCOM has to trigger the alert, So can you please help me out to achieve this Task. I have tried many scripts and no luck.. So please provide me step by steps to configure this.

    Hi Yan,
I have followed with Kevin steps with below model scripts and does not work it seems. Also I didn,t get any errors also.. I don't understand whats wrong there...

    Set objFile = objFSO.GetFile(“C:\Documents and Settings\ctx_cpsvcuser\ntuser.dat”)
    varSize = objFile.Size

  • SCOM 2012 Linux Monitoring - RPCBIND, RPCIDMAP, RPCSTAT services not running

We are running SCOM 2012 SP1 and added a test Linux server running Red Hat Enterprise 6.3.  SCOM is reporting that the server is in Critical health because the following three services are not running.
    1) Process Rpcbind Service Health - Rpcbind Mapper Not Running
    2) Process Rpcidmap Service Health - NFSv4 ID Name Mapper Not Running
    3) Process Rpcstat Service Health - NSM Status Monitor Not Running
My question is that are these services required to be running in order for SCOM to monitor the Linux servers properly?  If yes, can you please give brief explaination as to why so I can explain that to our Linux Administrator.  The Linux Administrator
is saying that we do not run these services on any of the Linux servers because they are not needed.  If infact these services are not needed, how can I have SCOM ignore the critical error messages?  Thanks

Yup, generally running. I'm assuming you've done a basic install of RHEL 6. All processes listed above are enabled by default on a RHEL 6 install if you take the default settings. If someone is just getting started you can pretty much guarantee
they will do a basic install of RHEL 6 and this will not be an issue.
Could it be done better... sure but at what point do you stop? We could discover all services running on the system and start monitoring them out of the box but what are important and what are not to each customer? The idea is to give you some basic monitoring
on a default install based on what each OS provider starts on a "default" install. If this does not suite your needs SCOM is very configurable and adding a custom service monitor is very easy to configure along with disabling existing ones.
If you'd like to provide feedback on this feel free to open a support ticket with Microsoft and file what we call a 'Design Change Request' [DCR]. We go though these prior to starting each update to SCOM. No guarantee it will get fixed/changed as we do have
    priorities but we are listening.
    Regards,
    -Steve
