Does screen sharing offer to share wi-fi from screen to current?

Hello I've just started using Remote access to my home network which seems to be working. And was wondering can I get the wi-fi from the screen share window to current laptop?
Any ideas would be appreciated.

What you are trying to do is not a "basic requirement". You should be directly using the hotel's wifi or sharing your computer's Internet connection using its wifi.

    Whenever I try to do Screen Sharing with another Mac (with Leopard), I get this warning:
    "Disconnected from Screen Sharing because: Can't get video from the Camera"
    It doesn't seem to affect video chats, which I can do just fine.

    It's an AirPort Express, but the problem doesn't seem to be unique to the router. I tried it in another location with another router and it still didn't work.

  • IChat Screen Sharing - I can share my screen, but Dad can't share his

    Hi all,
    Last week I used iChat screen sharing to help my Dad with his iMac, and although it froze and dropped out frequently, it was working.
    This week, for some reason we can only share my screen, but not his. On both sides, the option to share his screen is disabled (greyed out). Also the Video > Screen Sharing Enabled menu item is also disabled on his Mac, but mine is enabled and turned on.
    Both of us have Screen Sharing turned on in System Preferences > Sharing, and both have set to allow access to anyone.
    He restarted his Mac a couple of times, but no luck.
    Has anyone had the same problem, and is there a solution? Any idea why it would work last week but not this week?
    Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
    Will.

    Hi,
    You can come back and change the marking of the answered or not so that is not a problem.
    What it should help is stop other people joining in (an effectively loading you with email alerts when they do).
    A good specific title like your should also help.

  • Connect from Windows through screen sharing (VNC) and get out of full screen mode

    How do you get out of fullscreen mode?
    I connect to a OS X Lion computer through a Windows computer (which actually also is remote).
    I use TightVNC software on Windows to connect. It's the only VNC software I am able to connect to OS X Lion with. TightVNC is kind of weak otherwise in the way that it does not have features for OS X targets - like you can't send "command" key pushes, or even Ctrl pushes and other F2 etc keys just don't really work.
    Which means I cannot exit full screened apps by way of Command-F or similar. Moving the mouse cursor to the top of the screen also does not pop down the menu (although on some occasions I have been able to do this, I'm not sure how and it's terribly hard to reproduce).
    I'd need a on-screen way (like a button to click) to get out of full screen mode.
    Any ideas???

    Are you using TightVNC because you found it was the only VNC client that worked well with Mac OS X built-in VNC server?  Or is there another reason?
    Vine Server (aka OSXvnc - free to use the server)
    <http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11283/vine-server-%26-viewer>
    plays nicer with 3rd party VNC clients, so that you could try any number of other WIndows VNC clients.  Maybe one of those will do a better job of sending Command/Control/Option keys.
    But if you do install Vine server make sure you turn off Mac OS X Screen Sharing (and/or Remote Managment) so that you do not conflict with port 5900.  Or via Vine Server configs, tell Vine Server to use a different port number, such as 5901, then make sure you connect to the correct port from your Windows client.

  • Lock screen display not working properly on wakeup from screen sleep

    I just purchased a macbook air top model mid 2012... yesterday.  It's brand new.  When I click the trackpad to wake up the screen after it sleeps and has auto-locked (not a computer sleep!  just a screen sleep), the screen is not all present.  I have to move my mouse around to reveal the rest of the screen.  Once I have done that enough to find my icon to enable text entry, I put in my password and I get back to the desktop which is then normal.  This behaviour is only occuring on a wake-up after screen sleep.  Seems like a video driver problem to me.  The only add-ons I have at the moment are alfred and bettersnaptool.  Has anyone run into this?  Is there a fix?  Also, I have applied all the latest updates.  I can't remember, but this might have begun after the latest update.
    Thanks,
    John

  • Does any one have any luck getting screen sharing to work in Skype 2.x

    Does any one have any luck getting screen sharing to work in Skype 2.x?

    The current skype app works (makes calls) with iphone, ipod touch as well as the current ipad, per the description of the app. The ipad is obviously not going to be able to make video calls, but I know the iphone 4 can make video calls to a PC through skype. Works really well too. Im assuming that with the ipad 2 you should be able to make video calls as you can with iphone / ipod touch.

  • Screen sharing problems

    Hi,
    I have a strange problem when I try to connect to another Mac in my home network via screen sharing. Here's what happens in case somebody can help me.
    I'm trying to do this via Finder. I go to 'Shared' on the left column of finder and place my cursor on the name of the other computer in the network and I click on the 'Share Screen' button. When I do that, a little screen pops up saying "contacting 'other computer'"
    And after a while, the following error message appears:
    "Connection failed to 'other computer'"
    Please make sure that Screen Sharing (in the Sharing section of System Preferences) is enabled on the computer to which you are attempting to connect. Also make sure your network connection is working properly."
    However, Screen Sharing IS enabled in System Preferences (on both computers). I disabled the firewalls on both computers as well in case that was the cause of the problem.
    I have been wracking my brain trying to troubleshoot this and I've found some strange things that might be connected to the problem.
    I think I must have messed up something changing the name of the other computer. This is a computer that I have in another room of the house (from now on 'Computer 2', 'Computer 1' being my computer, the one I'm trying to connect from). In this computer I have various accounts for my children, for myself and for guests. The thing is that before the computer used to have another name (I don't remember the exact name) and then I changed it to Marta.
    Since I did that, when I look at the public folders in Computer 2, things are a bit amiss.
    The first thing I notice is that now the public folder looks different from the other folders:
    http://img146.imageshack.us/i/computer1mountfinder.png/
    View of the folder on the desktop:
    http://img717.imageshack.us/i/computer1mountdesktop.png/
    i.e it doesn't have the three little guys that mounted folders usually have.
    The second thing I notice is that now I can drag files to that public folder but I can only see the files that I have put in there at the moment. If I turn off the computer and turn it on again, I cannot see those files any more. Nevertheless, the files are there. I can see them when I go physically to computer 2 and I look at the contents of the public folder.
    Furthermore, I noticed that if I click on 'connect as' and I introduce the login name and password for my daughter's account, then I get to see another folder called 'mfm' (her user's name) which I don't see before doing 'connect as':
    http://img163.imageshack.us/i/mfm.png/
    Now, what you have to understand is that 'mfm' and 'Marta' are the same. That is, 'Marta' is my daughter and the name that I gave the computer. 'Marta's public folder' and 'mfm' are in fact also the SAME folder. If I do 'connect as' and enter mfm plus password, I can see all the files that I dragged to 'Marta's public' folder.
    So my hypothesis is that I have done something (probably when I changed the name of the computer to Marta) that has screwed up the network settings and now the computer is not recognized when I try to do 'Screen sharing'.
    If I try to do screen sharing from Computer 2 to Computer 1, things work smoothly. I get a pop up window with two options:
    . Enter your name and password to share the screen of Josep M. Fontana's iMac (my computer)
    - by asking for permission
    - as a registered user
    Then I give my user name and password and I can do screen sharing with no problems.
    As I said, when I try to do this from computer 1 to computer 2, I am not offered any options: a little screen pops up saying 'contacting "Marta"' and it stays there until I get the error message.
    I've wasted a lot of time trying to figure out what the problem is. I would REALLY appreciate any help anyone can give me to solve this problem.
    Thanks in advance.
    Josep M.

    Please, don't tell me my problem can be solved Perhaps I was spoiled with these forums since all my other calls for help were answered very promptly and with lots of good advice. Is this really such a hairy problem to solve? Was my description not clear? Please, if I can provide any more information or describe again something you don't understand, I will do it gladly but I need urgently to be able to do screen sharing with this other computer. I just added a new Mac to my network (a MacBook air) and I connect to and from it via screen sharing without any problems. So there is something screwed up in the configuration of this particular iMac which doesn't allow me to connect to it.
    Please, please, please. I implore the Mac experts that hang out in these forums to lend me a hand.
    Josep M.

  • Screen Sharing and Drive Sharing

    Hey all!
    I've got a Mac Mini that I am using to share files. I have an external drive attached via FireWire. The SMB and AFP shares only show up for the EXTERNAL drive when someone is logged in. Is this the expected behavior? Does anyone else have this happen?
    This isn't all! I've noticed that when I use Screen Sharing and click "Return to Login" from the upper right corner, that I loose my Screen Sharing connection AND AM UNABLE TO CONNECT AGAIN. I've been able to reproduce this behavior on my Mini, MB, and MBP. Anyone else experience this?
    Thanks in advance!
    Jason

    Thanks for the ideas! I kinda figured drive sharing wouldn't work from the login screen...seems kinda bogus though, but I guess if I want that, then I'd have to get OS X Server.
    As for Screen Sharing, I disagree. When I connect to a Mac via Screen Sharing from the login screen, it lets me choose a logon and login. When I choose to go back to the login screen...the screen freezes. When I hook back up to the Mini from the console, the screen is frozen on a blue screen. No mouse, no keyboard. I believe it worked under a previous version of OS X 10.5...so I'm not sure if 10.5.4 messed it up...
    Thoughts?

  • Screen Sharing / vnc with OS X 10.5.6 fails

    I can not get the Screen Sharing that comes with OS X 10.5.6 to work with any vnc client. The server is my laptop, an MBP 2.4 GHz Intel running OS X 10.5.6.
    *I enable Screen Sharing by doing the following:*
    1) +System Preferences > Sharing > Screen Sharing+ is checked
    2) +System Preferences > Sharing > Screen Sharing > Computer Settings > Anyone may request permission to control screen+ is checked
    3) +System Preferences > Sharing > Screen Sharing > Computer Settings > VNC viewers may control screen with password+ is checked and I've entered a password
    4) I also have Remote Login enabled for SSH access, but no other services are enabled.
    *I see two different behaviors depending on one of two clients that I try using:*
    1) +Chicken of the VNC v2.0b4+ running on same machine- Always says "Connection Terminated / Authentication Failed" without ever asking for a password. Logs the following in system.log (dates, hostnames and pids removed):
    Chicken of the VNC: Server reports Version RFB 003.889
    Chicken of the VNC: Bogus RFB Protocol Version Number from AppleRemoteDesktop, switching to protocol 003.007
    I believe that the information in system.log is OK, and is just warning me that Chicken of the VNC is working around Apple's strange protocol version.
    2) +TightVNC 1.3.9 on Windows XP sp2+- Says "Security type requested", then asks for a password. I enter it, click OK and tightvnc simply waits endlessly.
    *Other Notes:*
    1) I have tried configuring and starting the server using kickstart from the command line as suggested at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2370 (+sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart -activate -configure -access -on -restart -agent -privs -all+)
    2) I have tried unchecking +VNC viewers may control screen with password+, but in this case Chicken of the VNC says "Please configure Apple Remote Desktop to allow VNC Viewers to control the screen. Unknown authType 30,31,32" and TightVNC says "Server did not offer supported security type!"
    3) If I disable the Screen Sharing feature that comes out of the box with OS X, I CAN install and successfully run the OSXVnc server available at http://sourceforge.net/projects/osxvnc/. In this case, both Chicken of the VNC and TightVNC are able to connect.
    *So Apple's Screen Sharing does not work. Does anyone know what the problem is? Are there any log files I can look at, or is there another way I can debug this? I'm not impressed. :)*

    Thanks for the suggestion. It was possible that one of these files had become corrupted, so I tried moving each of these files to another directory but unfortunately I'm still seeing the same behavior.
    Here's what happens with each of these files individually after they're moved:
    1) When I set the VNC password in the system prefs, com.apple.VNCSettings.txt gets re-created (with the same contents as the original unless I change the password, so that just looks like a hash of the password).
    2) com.apple.RemoteManagement.plist also gets recreated when I change the system prefs. If I use "sudo plutil -convert xml1 com.apple.RemoteManagement.plist" I get the following:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
    <key>ARD_AllLocalUsers</key>
    <true/>
    <key>ARD_AllLocalUsersPrivs</key>
    <integer>2</integer>
    <key>ScreenSharingReqPermEnabled</key>
    <true/>
    <key>VNCLegacyConnectionsEnabled</key>
    <true/>
    </dict>
    </plist>
    3) For me, com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist does not exist.
    4) Interestingly, com.apple.ARDAgent.plist does not get created until I run "sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart -activate -configure -access -on -restart -agent -privs -all". Its XML contents are as follows:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
    <key>AdminConnectInfoList</key>
    <dict/>
    <key>AgentLogLevel</key>
    <integer>3</integer>
    <key>ServerConnectInfoList</key>
    <dict/>
    <key>Version</key>
    <real>3</real>
    </dict>
    </plist>
    Looking at this, I tried setting ScreenSharingReqPermEnabled to false, but that didn't help. Then I increased AgentLogLevel to 100 and got a lot of output in system.log (12:28:45 is when I restart the server and 12:29:34 is when I try to connect):

    I will try to watch fs_usage more closely to see what else gets modified and accessed, but I'm increasingly suspicious that there's simply a bug which is showing up under whatever specific conditions I have on my machine. Perhaps the included log info will trigger an idea for someone.

  • Screen sharing drive access problem

    I have a Mac Mini I'm using as a media server. This mini has 2 hard drives and Mavericks installed in it.   When I access the mini via screen sharing from my MacBook Air, if an no longer access the 2nd hard drive.  It appears, and I can open the hard drive, but I can't access the folders on the hard drive. I can't access anything on that drive using applications, either.
    This wasn't a problem using Mountain Lion.  Any tips on how to fix this?  All of my permissions are still set up correctly as they were before.
    Thanks,
    Bryan

    Hey Guys,
    I'm having this EXACT same problem, using this exact model of Belkin Wireless G Router: F5D7234-4 v4
    We're both running the most current version of OS X, and when the user who is on the Belkin router plugs her MBP directly into her Comcast cable modem, everything works perfectly.
    So given that the issue lies within the Belkin, I have remotely logged into the router and tried every possible combination of enabling and disabling:
    - UPnP
    - WMM
    - Firewall
    - QoS Monitoring
    After doing this, we're still only getting audio whenever we try to screen share. As with the original post, we will start the screen sharing process, the window will say "starting screen sharing with....", but then we will only have audio.
    Is my only other option to go through, set a static IP for this user, and setup all of the port forwarding per this article?

  • Screen Sharing With Windows XP

    I'm having a bit of trouble getting the screen of a Windows XP computer to show up on my Mac, using OS X's Screen Sharing feature.
    First I launch the Screen Sharing app, found at: Macintosh HD > System > Library > CoreServices > Screen Sharing.app
    A window pops up that says "Connect to Shared Computer" and prompts me to enter the "Host:". I type in the Window XP computer's IP address "192.168.0.15"
    A new window pops up that says "Enter your password to share the screen of 192.168.0.15". I type in the password required to log into that Windows XP computer and click Connect.
    A little progress indicator spins, saying "Connecting..." and then... "Connection failed to 192.168.0.15". "Make sure that Screen Sharing is enabled on the computer to which you are attempting to connect"
    I'm running UltraVNC Server on my Windows XP computer. What am I doing wrong?

    I do not know anything about UltraVNC, but traditionally, the VNC password is a separate password that is set as part of the VNC server configuration. It is generally NOT the user account password.
    There is a Microsoft Remote Desktop Client available if you would prefer:

    As well as CoRD

    There are also other VNC clients for Mac OS X

    I've been having trouble when asking a user to screen share using iChat 4.0.7 (616). The audio part works, but the screen sharing part shows the other person's screen, but then hangs and I'm staring at a static image of the screen.
    Looking at the system.log I find the following entry:
    /Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat[1266]: MVS Codec - bad rectangle size - closing connection
    I've searched, but so far I have not come up with anything. Does anyone know where this might be coming from?
    I've already tried disabling Perian, but that didn't help. I have QuickTime 7.6 installed and I'm running OS X 10.5.6. I also use Chax 2.2, but I don't see how that would have anything to do with this "MVS Codec" I've found little information on.
    I also have Flip4Mac version 2.2.1.11.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    I must admit I have not heard of this one.
    iChat is supposed to use a process similar to Apple Remote Desktop to do the Screen Sharing and adds an Audio component to this (or rather the two run side by side as it were).
    In fact if you have Developers Tools Install you get Property List Editor which will open .plists in a readable form and in com.apple.ichatAgent.plist you can see that screen Sharing is Enabled for the setting listed as Setting.BlockARDAvail
    I have an older 17" Cinema Screen with the strips in the edging which is in 4:3 format. It just letter boxes screen images normally on a 16:9 screen if I share someone else's.
    I am not sure if iChat taps in to ARD (Apple Remote Desktop) or has it's own "engine" to do this that is just based on ARD.
    In Leopard an App was added to System/Library/Core Services which is called Screen Sharing.app in which you can do the same Screen Sharing but with out the Audio component iChat adds.
    I suspect it is the latter of these two options although ARD was the base.
    If you have another Mac you can use Screen Sharing.app to test that function.

  • Lync- Skype Screen Sharing

      Can we use Lync Client (with Lync Infrastructure) to connect to remote Skype users : yes
      Can we then use the Skype screen sharing feature to see the remote user screen in our Lync Client : ??
      Can we then CONTROL the remote Skype screen using our Lync Client : ??.
      Our client does not allow the installation of binaries we are suggesting (Lync Client) and prefers a generic software I-e Skype on their end. And we want to do some troubleshooting on their machines by remote.
      We looking forward to alternatives to TeamViewer that we are currently using for the same purpose.

    Desktop Sharing between Skype and Lync is not currently available.
    Your clients could use a browser and connect to a Lync meeting using the Lync Web App to share their screen: http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/lync-help/join-a-lync-meeting-from-lync-web-app-HA102828539.aspx

  • Screen Sharing vs Linksys WRT600N

    Hi all. I hope someone here can help me out.
    I'm trying to connect to a Mac Mini via a Linksys WRT600N. I can log on and transfer files properly, and screen sharing via VNC works perfectly. But Screen Sharing via Apple's app does not.
    All firewalls are off. I have a wired gigabit switch in front of the router, and when I plug directly into the switch screen sharing works perfectly. But when I try and use it via the Linksys wirelessly it does not.
    This implies that the computers are all set up properly, but that the LinkSys is not forwarding the screen sharing requests properly. Does anyone know how this might be fixed?
    In case it matters, the Mini is running 10.5.8, and my MBP is running 10.6.2.
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

    I guess its worth mentioning that although you can indeed screen share from Leopard to Tiger, it only works when you are on the same network. But Remote Desktop works across the internet...
    Of course the trick to using Remote Desktop from a truly "remote" location elsewhere on the internet is that you have to be able to reach the IP of the computer you want to control, which can be tricky if its behind a NAT and the person your trying to reach is my Mom who has no idea how to configure her NAT, or firewall, or even find her IP address without my help.
    Screen sharing Leopard to Leopard via iChat should be much more straight forward... translation: this will make my life much easier the next time my mom needs help.

  • Back to My Mac / Screen Sharing

    I am trying to (and have had sporadic success with) controlling my desktop computer (at home, iMac, OS X 10.10) with my laptop (via Internet, Macbook Pro, OS X 10.10.1) through connecting through Screen Sharing from the Finder window's "Shared" computers. It's really hit or miss whether the iMac shows up in the Finder window, and I can't figure out why.
    I've been all over websites and forum posts for information, and have learned a lot of things, but many of them are outdated. Here are some things I've done/learned about:
    I can always log into my iMac through Chrome Remote Desktop, but I want the functionality of Screen Sharing.
    I cannot simply start the Screen Sharing app and type in my icloud id, because that only allows viewing and not controlling the screen.
    SSH through the terminal is hit or miss; it works more often than Screen Sharing does, but still not 100% of the time. I use it to copy files, but most of the time I need to be using the GUI.
    A couple times the iMac showed up in Shared computers right after I did something, i.e. trace route to icloud.com or initiate a Screen Sharing session from the iMac, via Chrome Remote Desktop. Other times I've tried to jumpstart it like that and it doesn't work.
    I've tried a variety of networks (home networks, workplace, mobile tethering) and I get different results every time, on every network. I might see my iMac in the Finder at work one day, and the next day it doesn't show up now matter what I do. So it must not be blocked ports in every case.
    I've been taking notes almost every time I successfully connect, and I have documented cases where I can get it to work by (once again) going into my iMac via Chrome, disabling Back to My Mac and/or Screen Sharing, then re-enabling them. But of course, this hasn't worked consistently.
    Any help or insight is appreciated. Again, this is all purely done over the internet, as accessing my home computer over a local network is of no use to me; I'm physically separated from it most of the time. (Most articles and walkthroughs teach people how to do it with their 192.168.x.x addresses, and they assume that your computers are always in your Shared section in Finder. This is not the case for me.)

    That means that the Remote Management is turned on.
    All you have to do is turn the Remote Management off if its not in use.
    You may want to investigate how the Remote Management is being used to make sure you are not turning something off that needs to be on.
