Does SharePoint/Exchange/SQL/AD Support Hyper-V Snapshots?

Hi,
Help, please.
Does SharePoint/Exchange/SQL/Active Directory Support Hyper-V Snapshots?
Thanks in advanced.

The short answer is NO.
Snapshot/Checkpoint is a point-in-time VM state including its disks, memory, CPU, system state. It does nothing to quiescence the data prior to taking a snapshot. So, SQL/Exchange/AD may not be consistent.
VSS (volume shadow copy) on the other hand does just that.
See this post for more details.

  • Choosing Server for SharePoint, Exchange, Active Directory, SQL

    Hello
We want to migrate from work-group type network and setup an interoffice mail server and ,  ... with SharePoint, Exchange, outlook. There are less than 40 clients. I prefer to minimize the number of servers. Is it possible to use one system for some
    of this servers:
    1. SharePoint
    2. Exchange Server
    3. SQL Server
    4. Active Directory DC
    Thank you

You could combine #1 and #3, but none of the other services. Or you could look at just getting a Domain Controller and using Office 365.
I'd recommend you have more than one Domain Controller for redundancy.

You are using Hyper-V server and not Hyper-V on Windows Sever.
Hyper-V server is free, but it only includes the Hypervisor and no GUI (Only for managing Hyper-V)
what's your physical machine OS ?
If it's Windows 8 or 8.1 then you can enable the Hyper-V management tools (Programs and features, Turn On/off Windows Features, Hyper-V, Hyper-V management tools). Then open the Hyper-V console and connect to your Hyper-V server.

  • Does SQL Developer support OS Authentication?  Will it?

Does SQL Developer support OS Authentication connections? If not will it in the future?

Given this has the SQL Developer been changed to remove the requirement of adding a password for an OS authenticated account? These users also have the ability to access the DB via applications and the fact that they don't have to enter a password right now is ideal. I really don't want to have to add a password for them. Will this be changed within SQL Developer?

Does Windows 7 Support Hyper-V Manager?

It already does. You can get the RSAT tools from here
They include the Hyper-V manager for Windows 7.
After installing the above download, go to Windows Features in Control Panel and choose the 'Role Administration Tools'. Select Hyper-V Tools from there.

  • Help needed - Planning Server 2012 solution, DC/Exchange/SQL/RDP host/Remote apps etc

    Hi All,
I have a client needing me to provide a Windows server based solution for their business. I have limited experience with Server 2012, although I have worked with 2008R2 and SBS2011, I am needing some guidance with this 2012 project.
The client has about 8-10 local users who work at one office with an NBN connection, and 2 other locations that have 3-5 users at each location. I am needing to provide them with a server based solution to manage their data, remote access and also their
email. They are also likely to expand to another physical office soon.
I need to provide them with a DC controller, Exchange server and possibly an SQL server in the future. They currently use an Act database, but I have been told that once the database in ACT grows to 4G, a dedicated database is required?
I am currently thinking of having one physical server and virtualising the additional servers on this platform, however I come from a UNIX background and have not virtualised using Hyper V or ESXi before. I have read a little regarding the CLI and GUI Hyper
V options, but I really need advice on what will suit my needs best from someone that has done it.
I am thinking I maybe should recommend one physical machine with Server 2012 Std which, from what I understand, will allow me to install the host hyper V host on the physical machine and then I could possibly install an instance of Server 2012 as
the DC, Exchange and SQL server on one VM licence, however I have read it is not preferred to have the exchange server on the same VM as the DC but have read that limiting the memory usage of Exchange can negate these issues?
I will also need to have a terminal server/RDP session host in there as well which I could maybe use the 2nd VM licence for.
I suppose my question is, considering that I need to end up with a DC, Exchange server, terminal server/RDP session host and possibly a SQL server in the future, am I better off virtualising and running these on a Server 2012 Std licence, that allows a hyper
v host + 2xVM's or should I be splitting these roles up on different physical machines, keeping in mind costs need to be kept to a minimum.
Also I need to consider the Microsoft Office side of things. Is it more financially viable to use office licences and use remote apps from the terminal server, or just purchase Office H&B for the workstations/laptops and have their outlook connected
    directly to the exchange server?
I am concerned from the performance viewpoint that if I run the DC/Exchange and SQL from one VM, then the TS/RDP Host from the other VM licence it may be too much for the DC/Exchange/SQL VM to handle.
I have used SBS 2011 in a few locations with Exchange and the SQL and DC roles installed on HP DL and ML gen 8 servers, and although they run a little slow on the console, they seem to serve the network clients fine.
If do end up running on one physical machine the Hyper V host, one VM as a DC, Exchange and SQL server, and the other VM licence as a RDP session host, what sort of spec'd machine would be recommended to be able to do this, keeping in mind
I usually lean towards HP servers.
Anyhow, thx in advance and any comments or suggestions will certainly be appreciated.
    Mkm

    Hello,
sorry but in your case without the knowledge of all major requirements i would suggest that you or your client contact an expert and not work with the forums to get this amount of information and setup requirements.
Exchange on DCs is NOT recommended, even not from Microsoft. Also it is highly recommended to run at least 2 DC/DNS/GC per domain for failover and redundancy, of course NOT on the same physical machine.
RDS servers should also run on dedicated machines and not be used for anything else.
SQL should also run on a separate server.
You cannot compare SBS version with regular server versions, the concept behind is different.
With that small amount of users you should consider using an Office365 solution where you could use a plan that fits your needs and have just computers for your client employees.
But as stated above therefore you should find an experienced consultant.

  • SharePoint 2013 SQL Server Edition for BI Features - must be on SharePoint SQL Server?

I need to install SQL Server 2012 for a new SharePoint 2013 installation.
Let's say I want to use the BI features of SharePoint 2013 like PowerView.
I already have a separate SQL Server running SQL Server 2012 BI Edition that is used as the database server for our data warehouse and some apps.  But this SQL Server will not be used to house the SharePoint 2013 databases.
Do I need to install SQL Server 2013 BI Edition on the SharePoint 2013 SQL Server (where the SharePoint 2013 databases will be housed) or can I used SQL Server 2013 Standard Edition on that server and utilize the BI Edition on the data warehouse server to
use the BI features of SharePoint?

Yes, BI or Enterprise must be installed on the SharePoint server in order to integrate SSRS. PowerPivot can be on a separate server with just a download (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35577) for certain components residing on
the SharePoint server. This will give you PowerView, as well.

  • Does PI 7.0 SP14 support WS-RM?

    Hi,
Does PI 7.0 SP14 support Web Services - Reliable Messaging? I know that WS-RM were down ported to NW 7.0 SP13(14). However, I've found some controversial information to what degree. Is it the full support like in PI 7.1?
    Thank you,
    Boris

PI 7.0 does not support WS-RM, but an application system based on 7.0 SP14 (like ECC) can exchange WS-RM messages with a PI 7.1 system.
    Hope that helps,

  • SQL function support within cfquery

Are all SQL statements supported by <cfquery>?
I'm tring to use FORMAT() with no luck.
    p.s. using MySQL db

I am doing simple math within a query of query.
    Specifically:
    <cfquery dbtype="query" name="qClubRecord">
    SELECT
    SUM(WIN) AS WINS,
    SUM(LOSS) AS LOSSES,
    SUM(TIE) AS TIES,
    SUM(WIN)/(SUM(WIN) + SUM(LOSS) + SUM(TIE)) AS WIN_PERCENTAGE
    FROM
    qGetRecords
    </cfquery>
    This works.
My problem arises when displaying. I would like to show only 2 decimal places.
    Now, I'm using <cfgrid> with format="html", so I can't use numberFormat.
I should be able to solve this problem within SQL. After a quick look I found the FORMAT() statement.
Works as advertised from the command line, but incorporating into <cfquery> fails (whether QoQ or not).
    So I'm stuck.
    <cfquery dbtype="query" name="qClubRecord">
    SELECT
    SUM(WIN) AS WINS,
    SUM(LOSS) AS LOSSES,
    SUM(TIE) AS TIES,
    FORMAT(SUM(WIN)/(SUM(WIN) + SUM(LOSS) + SUM(TIE)),2) AS WIN_PERCENTAGE
    FROM
    qGetRecords
    </cfquery>
    Thank you both for answering.

  • Does SharePoint 2013 have Power Query services similar to Power Pivot and Power View?

Does SharePoint 2013 include services to host/support Power Query content similar to the way it hosts Power Pivot content in the Power Pivot Gallery?

Miguel.  Is there an update to this?  New information or new timeline?
We have SP 2013 Enterprise, on-prem.  I'm finding that Power Query 's ability to get CSV or XML or other Web Services content, and then load it up to PowerPivot, is a way to address the lack of ODATA connectivity options on the web.  :-(
I would very much like to be able to create an XLS doc, with a Power Query to a CSV file, Loaded to PowerPivot, and have SP's Excel Services/PowerPivot engine continue to update the content for me.  It fails today, as you stated above.
Do you even think this will be updated for the on-prem version of SharePoint 2013 or will it only live in Power BI for Office 365?

  • Does SAP use SQL server's snapshot and transactional replication?

    Gurus:
    Could you help with this?
Does SAP use SQL server's snapshot and transactional replication?
    Thanks!

    Hi Christy,
no, SAP does not directly leverage these functions.
But none the less, it is up to you to use these on your system. I regulary use the snapshot functionality when applying Support Packages. In case somehing goes wrong a snapshot is the easiest way to roll back the import process (not exactly the best choice when talking about production and users keep on working while importing).
Have a look at this [document |http://download.microsoft.com/download/d/9/4/d948f981-926e-40fa-a026-5bfcf076d9b9/SAP_SQL2005_Best Practices.doc]. It deals with Best Practices and also covers snapshot, replication and mirroring.
