Does SharePoint search depend on the structure of the site

I am a be gainer in sharepoint server 2010
My question is, in front of me there are two structure for storing the document
one --
The are hierarchical structure like
My site -- Team site -- India --
IT -- document library 1 -- list of documents
Sales -- document library 2 -- list of documents
Consulting -- document library 3 -- list of documents
and flat structure like
My site -- Document center --
document library 1 -- list of documents
document library 2 -- list of documents
document library 3 -- list of documents
Now my question is , would it be easier to find a doc, if all of the documents are in one document center? or it does not matter, whether they are on the page(hierarchical) structure?please give a details overview if possible

It depends on the query you are using to find the document. In your first example you can find all the documents related to Sales by searching on 'Sales' and finding that document library. In the second example it would depend on how the documents
are tagged with metadata. If all the Sales documents have Sales as a value in one of the columns associated with the document you could still find Sales. The structure itself doesn't affect the search result. But the hierarchical structure
may add context that can be used in searching that may not be present other ways.

If you don't see any messages, not have anti-malware running or the Firewall on, try installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.6.8 (according to your profile).

I don't know why it says that I use firefox 4... When I check in my About window it says 18.
I do ignore the message about the plugins. But I've started to get a little bit annoyed that I have to move up and press the little x every time I navigate to a site that needs something like flash. It eats up the size of about two text rows... it feels so unnecessary that it's there. If I want flash I will install it... The browser doesn't have to inform me about it every time.
I really hoped for a better answer. Hopefully the firefox crew will add an option to not show that kind of messages in the future.

By search you are referring to Google search ?? or you are using any search module in your site and the keywords shows same topic multiple times on page ?
Please elaborate more, provide site url.
Regarding using keywords, description etc, you can add that to your page using page properties > metadata section.

Creation of SharePoint Search service with the help of powershell.

Upgraded WSS 3.0 to SharePoint 2013 Foundation red the SharePoint search.
We found log backup on the subjected server was failing due to database name,
which is more than max allowed legth. To fix the same, we may need to rename the

Can I Share a document with a user who does not have righs to the site? (SharePoint 2013 on prem)

Joe is in Sales
He must Share a document with Jane in Marketing.
He only wants to Share this one document.
Does he need to go into the Sales site and add Jane as a site user? Jane will then be able to see everything on the site. No good.
Does Joe now need to break inheritance on all the other site libraries from Jane to hide them??
In a perfect world, Joe shares the doc with Jane. Jane gets email with link. Jane clicks link and goes to sale site where all she sees is the document that was Shared- nothing else.

With 2013, you can just Share the specific item. It will automatically break inheritance on that item and allow Jane to see that one document only and Jane will get a link inviting her to the document.

When i type in my adress bar "facebook" it takes me to a google search instead of the site like it normaly would.

Normally when i type in lone site words like google, facebook, pandora, yahoo, and other such sites it automatically redirects me to the site without me having to type www and .com
but as of today it has started to direct me to a google search page of facebook, in particular, instead of the site.
Why might this be?

Does Novo Button depend on the partitions?

I 've recently purchased an Ideapad S400U. I am thinking to wipe everything from it. That is, I'll delete the OEM Windows 8 and its related partitions. That is because I intend to install Windows 8.1 (I've got its test version from DreamSpark).
Besides that, I'll install some linux distro too, and dual boot it with Windows 8.1
My question is: will my Novo button continue to work after I delete all the partitions? I mean: Lenovo recovery partition, Windows (U)EFI partition, Windows Recovery partition, Windows SSD caching, really everything. I am concerned in ending with a bricking ultrabook. I want at least to have access to the EFI firmware configuration ("old BIOS").
How does the Novo button works? It depends on some of these partitions, or I can delete them safely and it will continue to provide me access to its 4 options?

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Novo button will still give you the menu prompt but One option there is One Key Recovery and that Software may not work as it is the one depending on a partition of the original system image.
One Key Recovery is a Reinstallation image that reverts the system back on how it was imaged from the factory. It is on a hidden partition on the Harddrive and have a special attribute and path.

Why does a search not find the symbol ~, Why does a search not find the symbol ~

I thought that having a common name like Jim would make it harder to search for recent comments. So I added ~ after my name to refine the search. Did not work. Searching for Jim~ turns up every Jim in the universe. Any ideas? Flawed logic? Conspiracy theories? Dislike for names not begining with X? Boolean logic is not one of the classes I took in high school.

Link posted on Facebook does not import Photo from the site

When I paste a link to a status line on Facebook, it imports the title and annotation of the page correctly. However, the Facebook does not show any photo from the page (as it does with other websites).
Is there a way to force Facebook to show a photo alongside the title etc?

It seems that the only solution is to write a piece of code into the header of the page and that will tell facebook where to pull the title, description and the photo from. The code that needs to be inserted is below.
THE PROBLEM - this solution doesn't work if you have built your site using iweb. Everyone that has iweb has responded to the solution (everywhere this is written about) has said this.
Does anyone know another work around?

Search does not work in one of the site collections

The Search in one of the site collections in my extranet sites is not working. When I search it the does return any results, it's not finding anything. I went to search just the documents library it does not work as well. I didn't find any errors in the
log or event viewer. All other site collections the search work fine. There is no exclusion in the search rule. The site collection is set as searchable. The site has no crawlog log.
Any help?

No. I added pdf. The site collections is not being crawled it doesn't exist in any of these tables .msscrawlhistory

How to have SharePoint search custom columns in a custom list?

Hello,
How can have SharePoint search custom columns in a custom list? I have a custom list for a directory with names, department, title and phone numbers. Department and titles are not searchable with the search box for the list.
How can I make these 2 custom columns searchable?

Any text added to any property is searchable. If you have a Sales department search for "sales", but I think you are asking about doing a property search like "department=sales" or "department:sales".
2013 has a different way than 2007 and 2010 to create Managed Properties. You will need to create a Site Column and then a little configuration. The basic steps are:
Create a Site Column (as SP already has a Department column you will want to create one with a difference name such as CorpDept.)
Add the column to a list or library and add data. (won't be found otherwise)
Wait for the next content crawl. (or manually start a crawl)
Go to the tier where you want to define the managed property and go to the Schema page:
Central Admin, Search Service, Schema
your site, Settings (gear), Site Settings, Search Schema (in the Site Collection Admin section)
your site, Settings (gear), Site Settings, Schema (in the Search section)
Click Managed Properties and search for your column name. It might look like this: ows_q_TEXT_CorpDept.
Edit the Managed Property and give it a useful Alias, such as "CorpDept".
Test the search: CorpDept:Sales
Do a web search for "SharePoint 2013 Site Column Managed Properties" for examples.

Strange issue in SharePoint Search

I just took over SharePoint farm from other admin who left. After that SharePoint search crawl broke. I recreated the SharePoint search with all the settings. But there is really strange issue happening now.
If domain A user log in to SharePoint and search, they see all the results, while users from domain B donot see any result. Why is this happening? Has anyone experienced this before?
Any help will be hugly appreciated.

Is SharePoint installed in domain A and domain B is a one-way trusted domain?
If yes, then the issue should occur because search results gets security trimmed while returning the results back to the domain B users.
I recommend to run the following Windows PowerShell command:
$searchapp = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication
$searchapp.SetProperty("ForceClaimACLs",1)
A full crawl is required to enable the new ACL format across the content.

Part of .pdf doesn't show text when opened in firefox but does show when downloaded to the desktop

when I open this link within firefox the chart (page 3 on) doesn't open. When I download the .pdf to my desktop all the information is filled in.

i noticed on my laptop, where the entire contents of the .pdf is viewable, within Firefox - under
Firefox / Tools / Options / Applications / there is an app called JPS file whereas on the desktop this app does not appear

Have you researched the site you mentioned? I went to it and WOT gave me a red flag.
At this moment, we are aware of issues pertaining to PDF.js and we suggest installing the following add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/pdfjs/
