Does Siri ever work?

Siri never produced any usable result for me in iOS 6, but since upgrading to iOS 7 I can't even submit a request. Every attempt to use Siri gives me the annoying "apology" that she/he can't take any requests right now.
Does Siri ever actually work for anyone?

    Does Siri only work when you are connected to a Wifi?  Mine does not seem to work through the 4G cell network.

    It works over WiFi or cellular.
    If you are using 4G cell network, are you using something like a Verizon MiFi 4510L to create a hotspot that your iPhone 4S is using?
    There are other issues with Siri that are going on - perhaps that is what you are seeing?

    it says "Sorry I cant answer your question right now please try again later" and many other comments regarding the failure...
    And many of my Friends have the same problem...
    So my question again. Will Siri ever work in Bangladesh??????

    Apparently you are unaware that you are not writing to Apple Here.  No one from Apple responds to these Posts.  We are just fellow Users like yourself who volunteer to help each other solve problems.  We can't help you with your problem because we have no way of knowing Apple's future plans anymore than you do..

  • SL to Lion Upgrade Stall - Does Upgrading ever work?

    I've been running Server across several versions. 
    Thought I'd try upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion, despite the fact that NONE of these upgrades ever work.
    Apple didn't let me down - the upgrade to my Snow Leopard server stalls at "Upgrading Services" and won't proceed past this point.
    I of course have a bootable backup, so I'm still in business but I need to have some clues from an experienced upgrader what I might do to assist this process to complete.
    Alternatively, I may have to consider a migration although I'm not particularly experienced at this kind of server operation.
    Suggestions?

    We have not been able to upgrade this server.  We've tried on three separate occasions - once while working the problem with medium-level Apple engineering in Austin.  We are running on a couple dozen users, with minimal services - mail, DNS, DHCP, and address book as you.
    We've tried upgrading both the server drive, as well as the backup drive.  Both stall during the upgrade and it never completes.
    We've also tried once after 10.7.2 came out, downloading Lion and Lion server fresh thinking/hoping that the bugs would have been squashed. 
    No dice.
    In the current financial climate we're unwilling to pay a consultant to migrate everything to a new installation, and put up with the inevitable service disruptions and instability that generally occurs during this process.  Our current Snow Leopard server is rock-solid after a rocky period early on.
    A agree that Apple seems to be disinterested in these issues now - perhaps if the server ran on the iPhone we'd have more luck getting support!

  • Why does siri not work on my iPhone 4s?

    Just purchased iphone 4S and Siri is not working.  I have the most up to date software - 5.0.1  When I hold down the home button I get the voice control feature that's on previous versions.  Any ideas?

    It kind of sounds like Siri might not be activated.  Go to Settings - General - Siri and confirm it's turned on.  If it is, you might also make sure "raise to speak" is turned on, then go to your home screen and raise your phone to your ear.  Does the Siri audible prompt sound?
    If nothing else works, I'd do a current sync, then go to Settings - General - Reset and do a full reset.  If that doesn't work, try a Restore.  Here's a link for how to do that:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jzyy4puapig  You won't lose any data or apps, but you will have to reinput some odds and ends like your WiFi password.  Good luck.

    It does one task. If I'm lucky. Then it hangs and freezes and triggers the "not responding" message. Usually it doesn't even do that one task before hanging and freezing and not responding. And it's been like this for so long, I can't remember when TBird worked properly. Same thing in safe-mode.
    I'm tired of reading technical explanations and figuring out how to fix things especially when often, the proposed fixes, though well-intentioned, are illogical. I'm tired of the AV conflicts. I see that TBird can't get its act together. Surely there are other programs that work well with whatever AV program is installed.
    I think the thing to so is get another email program.
    Any recs out there for, you know, a good one ... one that actually works smoothly? "Cause TBird is atrocious.

    I tried everything. Safe mode. Tool bar and extension removals and disabling. It's a piece of crap. I've been living with this hunk if junk for more than a year, mostly due to inertia and, I guess my general laziness.
    I've had it with the reading and parsing through technical explanations every month, and the crashing, and having to shut it down on purpose hoping that it'd run better after a restart. It's not working for me. Ever. Ever. I mean one mouse click and the program shuts down for, I don't know, 40 minutes, three hours, until I reboot my PC.
    This is no way to experience my email.
    I'll check out seamonkey. Is it a cloud based program? I'm looking to avoid the cloud. Thanks for your help.

    I have just received a Nokia 6700 and previously had the Nokia 6300 and noticed on both that the Auto update of time just doesn't do anything? I am based in the UK on the Orange network. Even when I travel abroad and with this setting enabled, my phone time is not updated automatically? My current settings is with this off, zone set to GMT and daylight saving set to +1. I think these settings are protected when auto time is switched on.
    Is this something that Orange needs to enable or assuming I have a data connection, does it just sync with one of the internet time servers (as PC's have done for years).

    It only works if the network supports it.  It's a feature that has been in many phones from many manufacturers for years, but to most people it is useless.
    I'm not sure if many networks actually bother with this feature. I'm fairly certain that none of the UK networks support it but not sure about t-mobile.
    There is no way to sync the time with a server on a standard phone like the 6700.  For that feature you would need a smartphone and an extra bit of free software.

    The topic says it all. Why is it that sometimes, even in a 4G area, Siri suddenly doesn't  work?

    There are a few reasons why siri will stop listening:
    1. It is having problems connecting to the network so can't search for what you are looking for. You are prompted with something like: I am sorry I can't connect right now.
    2. There is a pause when you are dictating something to siri so it assumes you are done. Pauses of about 2 or 3 seconds should do it.
    3. You accidentally press the siri button indicating you are done dictating to siri.
    If none of these are the problem, I don't know what else to do. How often is this occuring?

  • Verizon Call Assistant - does it ever work?

    I've had FIOS (the triple package) for nearly a month now.  Call Assistant (the desktop app) worked for a day then simply would not connect to the server.  Always get a message saying cannot connect to one of the servers.  Calling Verizon is useless.  If you survive the endless recorded prompts, you eventually get a recorded message telling you there are tech problems.  This has been going on for weeks now.  How difficult can this be?  By the way, this is in the Southern Maryland region (La Plata, MD to be exact.)  FIOS service is new here, but still it's getting a little frustrating that you can't even get information on what the problem might be.  Anyone know anything about this?

    I was talking to someone over there not so long ago and they said they was an issue withCaller IDs not showing up any more on some users accounts. 
    On the subject of Automated Call Distribution (ACD) systems, don't get me started.  They are the worse misuse of technology ever invented!  But, I guess in some cases it actually speeds things up but the prompts are so generic it is easy to get to the wrong support queue, be put on hold only to find out you need to be transferred to yet another queue to wait in.
    But, any large corporation with so many products/services as verison, undoubtedly has more than a few call centers to distribute calls to.  Then, when you factor in state regulations and the need to get to state specific queues, I guess an ACD is required.  Good for Verizon, bad for us folks who only want to speak to a person.  That's why I try "0" when the ACD kicks off.

  • Creative Cloud Files – Syncing issues/Bandwidth hogging – Does it ever work?

    Having been a Dropbox user for several years I was keen to start using the 100gb of Creative Cloud storage to enable me to work on a project from home and pick up where I left off in the office.
    However it simply doesn't work properly!
    For example:
    I worked from home on Monday and Tuesday on a project. All the files were successfully uploaded from my home Mac within seconds/minutes. I came into work on Wednesday and the files had not appeared in my CC Files folder. I rebooted my Mac and paused and restarted the sync and left it running, a couple of the files appeared but the process seems to hang fairly quickly. I've left it running overnight and my files have still not synced! the status bar at the bottom of the CC app shows "Syncing file 7 of 181 (9hr left)" but it never gets any further.
    When syncing is switched on and running the process kills all the bandwidth of my work Mac causing outgoing emails to spend up to an hour in my outgoing mail queue, slowing web browsing to a crawl, hampering any other web usage/downloads/streaming/remote access etc. To prevent this I changed the preferences to only allow CC 50% of the available upload and download bandwidth.
    I have repeatedly logged out/rebooted my Mac, closed and relaunched the CC app, paused and restarted the sync process and run the
    rm ~/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/CoreSync/options.tix
    command in Terminal as suggested in another thread.
    The files I am syncing are not even that large, in total I am only using around 3% of my storage.
    Am I on my own in experiencing these issues? Or are other people suffering too?

    In order for us to take a deeper look at what's happening here, we would need to take a look at the log files on both your machines.  The location of the coresync.log file is included below.
    Could you also tell me what version of the Creative Cloud Desktop app you're using (from preferences) and the spec of the Macs?
    Log file location:
    Mac - /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CoreSync/CoreSync-yyyy-mm-dd.log
    (On Mac, you need to use the Go To Folder option from the Go option in Finder (menu at the top).  Then in the pop up enter:
    /users/username/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CoreSync/
    Then select go, this will take you to the folder containing the .log files.)

    I've got a problem, and one solution from Verizon is to try chat.  EVERY TIME I've tried I was told that chat is not available.  Now, maybe my time selection is bad, but geez, it's 10 am and it's not available.  Anyone ever gotten through on chat?  What are their hours?

    with live chat, when I click on contact us, it always shows live chat unavailable, but it checks and then refreshes after about 15 seconds. and THEN it's available.   
    if live chat never goes available while waiting on the contact us webpage, then that would be odd.
