  • Does siri use data if on a wifi network

does siri use data package if I'm on a wifi network?

I just was looking for this answer and found your question.  I then found the answer... Apple made a BIG mistake and made it so shared photostreams are on cellular!  See the quote from Apple below.  It makes me think that using something like Everpix may be a better idea as you can control it to NOT use cellular, it is free to use for recent pics (like photostream), and I think it does have the same web and in app share features.  My pics aren't up on it fully yet so I can't play with the share feature yet.
"Note:   Shared photo streams work over Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and cellular networks. Cellular data charges may apply.

  • Does imessage use data when not in a wifi conection?

how does imessage send a message? does it use the phone signal and send like a normal text message, or does it use the #g network and wifi conection? if it uses the 3g network how much data does it use?

    It uses your data/wifi
Your phone knows when to switch from imessage to sms message because it knows when your texting whether or not the recipient has iOS5 or not if it does the bubbles will be blue(Data/WIFI) if is a regular text it will be green(TXT) hope this helps

  • Why do my 5c and 5s use data when I am on WiFi? And why does it show up in regular intervals of 6 hours? Very strange.

I am really having problem controlling the data usage. It seems that iPhone 5c and 5s both use data when wifi is available. And plus, the data seems to be dumped all at once every 6 hours most of the time. I know I am neither uploading nor downloading 140MB over data at 7am. DOes anyone know how to control this?
I switched off almost all background data usage (except messages). I am not on facebook etc. What is going on?

Thanks for trying Jay's suggestion, zole. The iPhone should still be able to use WiFi to send and receive iMessages. By design though, Apple devices will turn off WiFi when the phone goes dormant (screen turns off) so if you are in the midst of downloading something or a new message comes in, the phone will be using the available mobile data by default.  You can turn cellular data on or off for individual applications http://vz.to/1IuZJIM instead of completely shutting off the cellular data. In that same section, you can see what applications may be using more cellular data than others to go into that specific app for settings (for example, if Facebook is using a lot of data, go into the application's settings and make sure the video autoplay is turned to WiFi only).

  • When I am traveling out of area and purchase and view a movie does it use data against my cell phone service?

When I have purchased a movie for my iPad and I am traveling, does it use data?

Any sort of Internet activity of any type, to any site or service, will use cell data unless your iPad is connected to Wi-Fi. If, however, you mean that you purchase and download a movie, either through Wi-Fi or via your computer, and view it later, then no, once purchased and downloaded it will not require any further Internet traffic.

  • Does Siri only work when connected to WiFi

Does Siri only work when you are connected to a Wifi?  Mine does not seem to work through the 4G cell network.

It works over WiFi or cellular.
If you are using 4G cell network, are you using something like a Verizon MiFi 4510L to create a hotspot that your iPhone 4S is using?
There are other issues with Siri that are going on - perhaps that is what you are seeing?

  • Do I use data when I read on my kindle app on my iPad

Do I use data when I use my kindle app on my iPad

You should only use data when you download the book. As I understand it your book is on your device and you read it from there. The only data usage I can think of is if you are doing their 'sync your book across your devices' then Device one would have to tell Device two 'she's on page 49 now'

  • Does iMessage use data?

I was just wondering if iMessage uses data when you are on the 3G network?  And if it does, does anyone know how much data?

iMessage would use data when not connected to a WiFi network, but should use WiFi if it is connected as that is how it would work with the iPod Touch and iPad (non 3g) models.

  • Do I use data when using facetime?

I have seen different answers to this question and was wondering does facetime use data?  I am on shared family plan with 2gb of data and can't seem to find the right answer if it does or does not.  I saw somewhere it uses wifi, but what if I am not connected to a wifi so does it use data?

However on an iPhone with cloud services "songs downloaded to the iPhone" do not use data. You will know if its using data if you see. the little cloud with the down arrow next to the song. Its being ready for download to the iPhone. Those without it are already on the iPhone.
    Good Luck

  • NFL Mobile App Used Data When Not Open

I used the NFL Mobile App last night for the first time. I connected to my WIFI thinking it wouldn't use any data. But it did anyway. And then during the night when the app was closed it used a whole lot of data on its own. I have notifications turned off. Why should this be using data when not open? And why should it be using data when on WIFI?

To have to go to settings, apps, find the app and then force stop is
a lot of steps just to stop an app. Not really an acceptable solution.
However, I re-installed the app. Opened it to make sure it worked ok. Made
sure my WIFI was on during all this. Then went to apps and did a force stop.
Took several tries to get it to stop for some reason. Later I noticed my phone
seemed to be using a lot of battery for some reason. Re-booted phone to make
sure all apps had closed. Went back in and checked the NFL app. It was no
longer stopped. I force stopped it again. Took several tries. Waited a few minutes
and checked again. It was no longer stopped. For some reason it won’t stop. So
I had to un-install it again.
Not sure why all this is happening with this particular app, but I can’t take the
chance of inadvertent data or battery usage. So it will remain un-installed until
someone tells me the problem has been fixed. It’s a shame as since this is one
of the perks of my Verizon account, I feel I have been slighted. I can’t believe I’m
the only one having this issue.

  • Phone is using data when not in use. How do I make it stop?

My iPhone 4S is using data when not in use. Any thoughts on how to make it stop?

    Hello Oakleymp
You could always turn off cellular data in Settings to get it to stop using data while it is on standby. Another option to troubleshoot the issues is to reset all settings, go to Settings > General >Reset > Reset All Settings.
