Does Skype 2.8 run well on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion

The only thing holding us back from upgrading to Mountain Lion is the question of Skype compatibility. We would prefer to use Skype 2.8. We would take the plunge, though, if we knew Skype 5.8 worked well on Mountain Lion. But Roaring Apps says Skype 5.8.0.1027 has "Some problems in 10.8."

Look at this!!!!

There is the question!!!!

Why does my Macbook Pro keep shutting down during installation of OSX Mountain Lion?

    Hmm, good luck then!
I'm pretty much exactly on the opposite side of the planet, but I've been to Vermont and remember its rural beauty well. However, I can't imagine you having the only Internet connection within a reasonable radius (where "neighbors" hanging off the same ISP don't count). Uh, that note only if your wired connection to the router produces no good result, either...

  • Does an upgrade to ilife 11 contain idvd for use with mountain lion (10.8.5)?

Does an upgrade to ilife 11 contain iDVD for use with mountain lion (10.8.5)?  I received an advertisement about upgrading to iLife 11 and it discusses sharing via iDVD, which was disabled when I upgraded to Mountain Lion OS 10.8.5.  Would purchasing the iLife 11 download restore the functionality of iDVD, or is this just another way to get the sheep to upgrade iMovie with no way to export to iDVD or equivalent.  Why is there no Apple warning that Mountain Lion disables and does not support iDVD?  I used to think Microsoft was a trickster, but I'm of the opinion that Apple meets or exceeds their slippery machinations.  Am I just stuck with purchasing a 3rd party software to replace iDVD?

If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • TS4422 Why does my macbook pro (mid 2010) keep crashing after installing latest Mountain Lion?

I updated my operating system on MBP (mid 2010) to Mountain Lion 10.8.3.  I am starting to regret it! It takes forever to boot up and shut down, it keeps crashing every time my husband tries to go on his work email system (he's about to chuck my MBP out the window!) and also does it to me randomly.  The MBP runs very SLOW.
What's up? Do I need to bring to Genius Bar or can it be resolved here?
    Thanks!

Hi - I have the smae problem. Suddenly crashes - MBP 15, new HD with Mountain Lion.

  • Problems running Photoshop CS6 under OS 10.8 Mountain Lion

Since updating the OS from 10.6.7 to OS 10.8 on iMacs (21" and 24" Intel 2.4GHz) I have experienced problems running Photoshop. The app boots up fine and I can start a project as normal, but when I click on a tool to change it's usage I get the spinning beach ball, this lasts about 5 - 10 seconds and then the tool drop down menu appears. After this, I get the beach ball appearing every few minutes  as I try to work, and the only way to get Photoshop running efficiently is to close it down  and then restart.
Any ideas as to the cause? I've read on forums from both Adobe and Apple that apparently there are no compatibility issues between Mountain Lion and CS6 but I never had this problem previously under Snow Leopard.

The next two remedial steps would be to reset all tools by right-clicking here:
    and if that does not resolve the problem, reset Preferences;
    To reset Preferences:
If Photoshop is already open on your screen, close it (Quit). Then hold down Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Shift+Command+Option (Mac) on your keyboard and start Photoshop.
A dialog box will pop up asking if you want to delete the existing Preferences file (the "Settings"). Click Yes in the dialog box. The existing Preferences file will be scrapped and a new one will be created.

  • How can I find out if my mac mini running snow leopard can be upgraded to mountain lion?

I have a mac mini with sufficient ram for the mountain lion OS however, I am unable to determine if the machine was created in early 2009.  Is there a way to make sure my machine will take the upgrade without purchasing the operating system first?

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion

  • Any way to run disc with Power PC program in Mountain Lion?

Hi, I'm trying to run a disc that seems to be only supported in earlier OSX versions that accommodate Power PC applications.
    Here's the message I'm getting:
"You can't open the application ... because PowerPC applications are no longer supported."
    Any suggestions?  Thank you!

    More details please:
    •  What disc?
    •  Why did you upgrade to Mountain Lion? for what features?
    •  You say: "I'm trying to run a disc that seems to be only supported in earlier OSX versions..." This seems to imply that this is the first time you have tried to run this disc.  How important to you is it to be able to run this disc on a continuing basis?
The answers to these questions and as many details that you can provide as possible will help us focus on the best solution to your problem: Yes, solutions exist!

  • Does Apple have plans to introduce AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mountain Lion?

Does Apple have plans to introduce AirPort Utility 5.6 support for Lion?  I ask as I have an older Airport Express that I would like to use for WDS and in using the AirPort Utility on my 10.7.4 Lion machine.  If AirPort Utility 5.6 is not supported on Lion, is it supported on Mountain Lion?
    Thank you.

  • Yosemite run "mount volumes" is not same as Mountain Lion

I have a script to mount the shared folder from Windows server (named: servicedesk) as a volume in Yosemite iMac.
    -- -------begin script-----
set loggedInUser to do shell script "whoami"
    tell application "Finder"
      try
      mount volume "smb://servicedesk/M"
do shell script "ln -sf /Volumes/M/ ~/Desktop/M"
      end try
    end tell
    ----------End script--------
When run the script on Mountain Lion 10.8.5 iMac, I can list the "M" when run the command in terminal: ls /Volumes/
But when run the script on Yosemite iMac, It's show "servicedesk" instead "M" when run the command in terminal: ls /Volumes/
I don't know why it is difference and can't do anything to create symlink to the Desktop now. Please help????
    Thank you,

    Thanks for your reply @Camelot
Your reply is solved my question.
But I'm still wondering why it is same the way of script done (in OS 10.10.1) with 2 targets: shared folder on iMac and shared folder on Windows. The script which "mount volume" on MAC is have expected result, Windows is not. Please see the picture to easier understand
1/ "Idrive", is mapped from iMAC, "M" is mapped from WIndows
2/ But when show the result in Terminal, "Idrive" can list, "M" doesn't but it's shown "servicedesk". The icon is also difference on the Desktop!!!
    much appreciate your comments

  • Still at a loss why Mountain Lion is running slow., Still at a loss why Mountain Lion is running slow.

    Here is where I am.
I've cleared the PRAM by pressing control, command, P, R.  I've cleared the SMC by leaving my computer unplugged overnight.  I've repaired the disk permissions on both my internal and external drives.  Is there anything I am not understanding about getting Mountain Lion working?  I thought how cool it would be to play with this new OS while I am on vacation.  Yahoo! Not so fun now.

After I turn the computer on, I get about 10 mins of good functioning.  Today I was using Firefox and iTunes at the same time.  I shuT down Firefox in case it was bogging down the system.  I disconnected the Ethernet cable in case something related to downloading was an issue.  Alas, none of that has worked.

  • I have snow leopard.  My iTunes is 10.6.3, which is the current software for OS 10.6.8.  The new iPhone 5 requires iTunes 7!  Does this REALLY mean I'll be forced into purchasing either Mountain Lion?

I have not ugraded, but I can on 1 of my apples, to Mountain Lion.  Much of the software I use is not compatible, or the compatible version is unacceptable (Quicken, etc.).
iTunes is 10.6.3, and it says it is the CURRENT software for my system.
The new iPhone 5 requires iTunes 7.
I may be dense, but is there no way around this problem other than upgrading to Mountain Lion?  Maybe it is a strategy to sell more computers?  In any case I may simply bypass the new iPhone.  That isn't what would be the ideal scene, but it's an option.
Any thoughts on Apple coming up with a solution and having the iPhone 5 at least partially compatible with iTunes 10.6.3?  Like they did with iCloud?
    Thanks,

iTunes 10.7 is compatible with Snow Leopard.
You can download it here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/
