I was doing a Skype video call recently and I had a couple of people in the conversation. One of the people had his web cam on and everyone else had their web cams off. The person who had his on had some old plan or feature in place on his account that allowed for mulitple video chats in a call when Skype did not support that feature with newer accounts at the time. All of a sudden, I saw a message appear on the screen about being able to add multiple video chats to my Skype call for free. Has Skype really gone and added the capability of multiple video conferences during a call?

Apple did not erase iChat.
Messages in Mountain Lion is iChat +
The plus bit is the fact you can iMessage iOS devices.
All the other features that were in iChat are still there.
If you upgraded Lion to get to Mountain Lion then in System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars you probably list all the iChat Accounts (Screen Names and IDs).
You may need to enable them for Messages.
They should also show up in Messages Menu > Preference > Accounts
Once those accounts (AIM and Jabber) are Enabled they can be viewed in a Combined Buddy List
Windows Menu > Buddies (Or using CMD + 1 Keystrokes)
In the General Section of the Preferences you can Unlink these Buddy lists.
The Green icons or highlight a Buddy and then using the Buddies Menu or the icons at the Bottom of the Buddy list can be used the same way to start Video or Audio Only chats.
The iMessage "Account" is only for texting iOS devices or other people using their Apple ID on a Mac in Messages.
It is an account "in addition to" rather than "taking over from" the services that iChat can join.

First my ichat wasnt letting me screenshare, now I cant video chat

About 3 days ago I noticed my ichat was not able to screenshare. I went to Audio and Video>screenshare and the option where you can click and unclick to enable/disable the screensharing was grayed out so I could not click it. Tonight, I noticed now I can't video chat (again, its grayed out in the options). My screensharing is enabled in system preferences. Why is this happening?

iChat is dependent on the Internet Speed it can "See" at launch to be able to do VIdeo Chats and Screen Sharing.
In iChat 4 and earlier there are two places these can be set.
System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming
The default setting of Automatic is "read" as 384Kbps in iChat 4 (Earlier versions as 0kbps)
We recommend 1.5Mbps T1/LAN/Intranet as the "Best" option as th LAN/Intranet alone is also suspect in iChat 3
In iChat Itself, go to the Video Preferences and then the Bandwidth Limit drop down.
The Default is None.
Anything below the 200kbps will not be able to Video or Screen Share.
Do a Speed test and lets us know the Upload as well as the Download speeds you are getting.
If this is lower than you think you pay for try restarting the Mac.
If that does not work try rebooting the Router or modem. (With the Mac Off then reboot the Mac).

Why does audio not work when video chatting?

For some reason the audio doesn't work when I video chat (skype and oovoo) The person can hear me but I can't hear them. How do I fix?

Check to see that your little one did not by accident get something (anything) in the headphone jack. If there is debris in there (and it doesn't take much) it will make your device think a set of headphones is jacked in and you won't be able to hear through speakerphone or handset.
While holding it with the jack down, blow across the jack and tap gently. It often will dislodge whatever is in there.

Multiple Video Chat works between three but not between two of the three

I'm connecting three Macbooks using iChat AV. If I initiate the session the other two accept and we have a three way video chat. Either of the other two can initiate a video chat with me. Problem:
neither of them can initiate a video chat with the other. All three Macbooks seem to have the same preferences etc.

Where are the microphone settings to allow Facebook video chat?

I loaded Facebook video chat last night. I can hear & see the other person; they can only see me, but, cannot hear me when I'm talking. I tried looking at System Preferences, etc., w/out success. Can someone help me?

No settings needed just use the HDMI adapter.

Something you might want to try. Turn off the auto download. Put your card into the reader. Library Module, click on Import. Select Choose Files rather than the card drive itself. Now you have a navagatable window from which you may use to view thumbnails or names. Use the traditional CTRL + Click, or Shift + Click to select your files and click on Open. Your Import window appears for you to make your Import choices like normal.

Yes, this is a rant.
Yes, I hold little hope of receiving a meaningful response.
These being said, I hope that if more people point out the absurdity of charging for a feature currently freely available from a major competitor (one would hope Goggle shows as such on Skype's radar?), who knows, Somebody at Microsoft/Skype will slap they forehead at the sudden realization that they are losing market share that will be very hard (if not impossible) to regain.
I can already hear the arguments against making this (and other features, such as US/Canada calls) free going on incessantly about lost revenue and the next quarter results - I've used to work for a behemoth and that's how they die: never considering loss of customer good will, bad reputation and the resulting inevitable mass migration to competitor's solution in response to the company's obvious ineptitude. It never seems to dawn on them that losing some revenue now means living to fight another day.
Oh well, the battle between the giants was interesting to watch - until I've realized that one of the giants is blind.
Oh, and BTW:
I had to write this message a second time - IE11 crashed when I tried to preview the first iteration. Microsoft FTW! (yes, that was sarcastic - I am now making a copy of the entire post before submitting, just in case)

Why does Facetime keep dropping my video chats?

My FaceTime calls keep dropping calls/video calls every 2 minutes. I know its not the internet because I can Skype for hours with no problem. I cant figure it out! Why would this happen?

are you using I movie? There is an output in i movie for you tube that i suppose turns it into whatever format they want. And how long is it? T think there is a 10 or 15 min limit on you tube for uploads. I am thinking that the format from your camera is not what you tune wants to see. If you can get it into i movie, and send it from there, it converts it into what they want. I think. (works for me)

Multiple Video Chat?

I have 4 iMac G5's in my office. I also have 8mb broadband... two of the iMacs can have a three way but the other two can't. On the iChat list next to my picture it show a stacked video camera on the other the samething, on the other 2 it show a single camera... what's up with that? They all are running the latest OS and have all the latestest updates? Any suggestions?

It is a maintenance issue. The loss of the stacked icons is normally due to over full caches.

Does Safari now block multiple applets on a page?

After going through the process to re-enable Java in Safari, specifically the 1.7.0_67 JRE, Safari 6.0.5, on OS X 10.8.5, websites with 1 Java applet work fine. However, if the page has 2, the second applet won't launch. In the small test case below, the start of the second applet will actually cause the first one to stop working and both display as "Plug-in Failure" on the page. Before the second one starts, the first applet does display correctly. In the test page, setTimeout is used to launch the applets since if they are both just put into the html without javascript neither of them appear to actually start (though the java console will be opened and reports no errors or exceptions). Is this a known issue and is there a setting in Safari or Java that can be changed to fix this?

In case someone else runs into this, the problem was with the Java settings. The runtime parameters in the java control panel were set for debugging. By clearing the runtime parameters box and trying the test page again, both applets launch and display correctly.

ADF 10g Allow Multiple Date Formats During Data Entry

We would like the ability to allow users to enter a date in several different formats. When they tab from the date field (or click out), we would like a custom java method (which we can write) to execute which analyzes what they typed and formats the date as MM/dd/yyyy. Can we do this and how do we get it to execute BEFORE any other validators and/or converters? A simple example is this: the user enters a forward slash (/) into a date field, they tab out, and we populate the date field with the current date.
Any help and/or ideas is greatly appreciated.

actually you will write your own converter and use this instead of the default converter. This is the way you do it. It also ensures that the timing between validation a conversion is fine

OK, you have already Tested your iSight to ensure it is functional, and you have determined that your real problem is with iChat AV.
You are right to be suspicious of the iChat AV 3 error messages. Sometimes all they do is confirm that you cannot connect. As in your case, it is not unusual that the error message obviously does NOT report the real error condition.
The suggestions in How to get iChat AV working again will help you get going. Sometimes the fix is as simple as adjusting your QuickTime Streaming Speed as suggested in the "Help for iChat AV 3 Problems" link there.
I do not use any of the add-ons that you mention. For questions about iGlasses, Power Boost, and Conference Recorder, I suggest that you visit the ecamm.com respective web pages for each product. If the "faq" links for each app do not help, you can contact ecamm tech support for help with their apps.
