Does Snow Leopard come with a word processor?

Tiger came with Appleworks. As far as I can tell, the only word processor that came with my new Mac is TextEdit. Was I gipped? Was something not installed on my computer that should have been? Or do I just have to buy Iwork?

Whilst not a high end word processor, TextEdit has more abilities than many people realize, or have spent time exploring.
It really has some great features.

  • Does Snow Leopard Come Installed on the new MBP's?

I read on here that Leopard and Snow Leopard need to be installed once the computer arrives. Is this true? Meaning that the OS X Snow Leopard is not already installed on the notebook when it arrives! That can't be.
Also, if I purchase One-on-One at thid Apple Store, it mentions (or I heard fro someone that I can use the 1st class or whatever it is called to get help with installing programs, migrating from the old to the new, learning a little about the SL OS, etc.? I hope this is good for people who purchase the notebook from the online Apple Store too. It has to be, right? Yeah!
Finally, any recommendations on heavy-duty external 500 GB max most likely with the option of USB 2.0 or FW 400 or 800. I would rarely be using the FW 800 until after I graduate.
    Thanks!

It can be but may not be true. Apple frequently ships existing inventory made before the latest OS is released (& thus does not have it installed or on the system discs) with what is known as a "drop in" disc, so named because it is dropped in the product box & the box resealed before being sent to retail outlets or to customers for direct sales. Once this inventory is gone, all new units will be shipped with the new OS installed (& on the system discs), until then you may get the new OS in one or the other form.

*One to One* is a separate purchase & includes personalized help for everything you mentioned. Read about it at http://www.apple.com/retail/onetoone/.

What is best for you depends on what you mean by "heavy-duty" & how long it will be before you graduate. Do not expect current hard drives to last more than five years (although many will), so figure this into how long you would be using it after purchase. With the current trends in capacity vs. cost, you will probably be able to buy in two years a drive several times as large as a 500 GB one for cheaper than whatever you pay now, so figure that in as well.
In general, Seagate has a good reputation for longevity (mostly perhaps because of its 5 year warranty on some models). The drive products from Other World Computing are also highly regarded. Personally, I like Buffalo drives, mostly for their low cost, & because I plan on replacing/adding new external drives every 1 ½ to 2 years.
If by heavy-duty you mean mechanically rugged, check out the portable drives marketed for portable use & that characteristic -- some have shock resistant cases & contain hard drives with higher g-force shock ratings than is usual.

  • Will updating to Snow Leopard come with Quicktime Pro?

    I was just curious.

No, QuickTime X does not have all the features of QT 7 Pro. The latter is a real swiss army knife, the former is leaner.
If you have a QT 7 Pro key, you can use QT 7 Pro on Snow Leopard, with its functionality. QT 7 is an optional install on Snow Leopard, but if you use all of its features, you'll probably want it. If you're mostly doing playback, you may not.

  • Does Boot Camp come with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint etc?

I would like to install Boot Camp on my MacBook Pro with Retina Display (it comes with Boot Camp Assistant). I was wandering if Boot Camp has Mircrosoft Office and all the other ones? That is the only reason I really need to download. Help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Nope MS Office is not included with Boot Camp. A copy of Windows isn't included either. So you'll need to buy either or both depending on your needs.
Boot Camp just helps you install Windows  on your Mac. That's it. The copy of Windows, you need to buy or own already.

  • Does mac computers come with microsoft  word format for typing documents my professor only accepts this.

where do i find microsoft word on this mac computer?

If you need Word, buy it from Microsoft. There is probably a student discount.
You don't need Word or any Microsoft bloatware to read and save Word - readable documents.
There are better alternatives, such as Apple's Pages. It will read and save Word formats.
It's $20. If that's $20 too much you can use OpenOffice (free) or NeoOffice (free). All read and save Word documents.

  • Does Snow Leopard ship with dictionaries in any other languages?

Someone asked me this question today and I assumed that it did because it seems logical. However, I can not seem to get it working. If I change the language of my OS to French from English and then type up a document in Pages, will it spell check in French or am I on my own? What about Spanish, etc.?

By default, it is set to pick the language for spell check automatically. That assumes you set the language of the text, first. You can set the language of the text in Pages Text inspector. Select the text, click on More in the text inspector, and set the language.
I wrote a passage in my best 20+ year-old high school French, and it came up all marked wrong. I selected it and marked it as French, and the spelling all checked good.
I'm not sure what happens when you change the language of the computer and why that didn't switch everything for you. Was Pages still open when you changed? Did you restart?

  • Does my imac come with snow leopard cd

I purchased imac 27" (refurbished) less than 1 year ago from apple.  Now I need bootcamp drivers and I don't recall whether or not receiving snow leopard cd with this.  Can someone confirm about this?
    Thanks

    Hi,
OSX Snow Leopard was released in August 2009.
So when you have bought your refurbished iMac in 2010 then there has to be an OSX Snow Leopard DVD included.
    Search thoroughly for it.
If you don't find it anymore you can either call Apple and ask for a replacement or go to your nearest Apple shop and buy a retail OSx Snow Leopard for USD 29.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Does snow leopard support word '04

I have a book saved on WORD '04.  Does Snow Leopard 10.6.3 allow me to rewrite and resave on Snow Leopard using WORD '04 or must I upgrade to another Word version? Can I use a plug in with WORD '04 saved documents?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Snow Leopard is compatible with Office 2004 for Mac, including Word, so you can use it. However, if you want to upgrade to a newer OS X version, you need to get Office 2008 or 2011 for Mac, because Snow Leopard is the last Mac OS X version that supports Office 2004.
Another option you can consider is to use an application like LibreOffice, free and open-source, which is compatible with newer OS X versions and that can use Office documents. I do not recommend iWork because it does the same as LibreOffice and you have to pay to get it

  • Does any apple laptop comes with microsoft word?

I have an windows 8 laptop and im so fed up with that piece of crap, does any apple laptop come with microsoft word?

No. That is totally wrong. If you buy the latest Macbook Air/Pro or iMac you will get free Pages. Pages is like Word, but even better.
If you get an older/ or if you own an older Mac, check out www.icloud.com, sign in with your APPLE ID, then click on the "Pages" app. This lets you write texts professionaly and is in my opinion way better than Word.

I think we need more clarification.
What do you mean by "download"? Only updates are available as downloads, the System software has to be installed from a DVD.

  • Does the mac book pro come with microsoft word?

i was wondering if the macbook pro comes with microsoft word already built into it or if it has to be downloaded or bought

Not out of the box, you have to pay for it to get it regardless. The only way it would come with Office
pre-installaed is to have it custom ordered through Apple or another seller that offers pre-installation services.

    About AirPlay and Airplay Mirroring
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). For non-qualifying Macs you can try using Air Parrot.

  • Where does Snow Leopard store iTunes Music

    Greetings,
I wanted to get a clean start for my iTunes Library.
First, I deleted my iTunes folder in Documents into the trash and then emptied the Trash. Second, I deleted the iTunes app.
I went to iTunes and downloaded a new iTunes application. After it was installed the entire iTunes music library was there when I opened my new download of the iTunes Application.
Where did it come from if I deleted my iTunes folder thinking I was deleting all of my downloaded songs?
So my question is where does Snow Leopard store these songs? I assumed they would be gone so I could begin to put in new albums in my iTunes.
Thanks in advance for your help and support.
    Leigh

You can find out or change where the actual songs are by opening iTunes/Preferences/Advanced (I'm still on iTunes 8 so I apologize if your menu looks different). Click my link below. The yellow highlight is mine.
