Does snow leopard have the remote lock option like Lion does?

Can i set a password protection feature in SL like Lion has if my Macbook gets stolen or lost?
The ones that looks like this? http://cdn.macrumors.com/article-new/2011/06/find_my_mac_lock_screen-500x317.jpg

No, that's a remote lock, just will make the thief replace the drive or trash the machine, you lose.
You can do something better, you can install Prey
http://preyproject.com/
Have two accounts on the machine, one with a easy password to guess, and the other is yours with a hard password.
the thief goes into the easy to guess passowrd  General User account and uses the computer, attempts to learn how to crack the Admin password etc while online,
Prey is watching him, getting his location and taking pictures etc. sending it all online. LOL
Take the info to the police and they make a raid.
If you keep your personal files on a extenral drive, and make backups you won't care.

The remote lock locks the iphone with a passcode that you set. By remote wiping the device it will simply restore it and clear it of all its data, but by doing this it will prevent you tracking it and communicating with it (e.g. remote locking it) in the future

  • Does snow leopard have dictation?

Does Snow Leopard have dication like Mountain Lion?

Thank you.  My daughter really wants this, but I've read some awful reviews of Mountain Lion and am just not sure if we should get it.  Anyone have an opinion?

  • Does all ipads have the reversing camera option

I am trying to decide which IPAD to purchase.  I really like the reversing camera as I have an iphone 3GS and do not have that function.  Do all ipads have that function or just IPAD2  I looked at the specs and am not sure.  I would rather purchase a IPAD 4th generation, but not if it doesn't have the reversing camera option

If you mean the front facing camera, yes all iPads have a front facing and rear facing camera. The front facing camera was really made to work with FaceTime.
the iPad 4 specs are here. The front facing camera is called the FaceTime Camera.

  • After I installed 10.6.8, my HP Officejet lost the ability to print 2-sided.  I installed the latest HP drivers for Snow Leopard, but the 2-sided option is turned off and greyed out.

After I installed 10.6.8, my HP Officejet 7310 lost the ability to print 2-sided.  I installed the latest HP drivers for Snow Leopard, the 2-sided option shows up in the print window but is turned off and greyed out.  Also the scan function won't let me scan at any density greater than 150 dpi.  I have talked to Applecare and to HP tech support and been told "too bad."  Any help would be appreciated.

THANK YOU!  And who are you?  I spent a couple of hours on the phone with Applecare and with HP Tech Support and they couldn't fix what you did in a few words.  Many thanks!  John

  • Does Snow Leopard have a lower version of Safari than Leopard?

I'm just about to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard and browsing through the booklet that came with it I saw that it says it contains "Safari 4."  They advertise this as though it is an improvement, but I currently have Safari version 5.0.6.  Is it possible that Snow Leopard uses an older version of Safari than Leopard does?  If so, will it downgrade my version when I install it? How could I prevent that?  Or could I upgrade Snow Leopard after installation to run Safari 5 or more?  Is there a big difference between the two versions?  The whole pont of the upgrade, of course, is to get better, newer versions of everything.

You are looking at information issued when Snow Leopard first came out. Your install shouldn't downgrade your Safari but if it does you can simply update it using Software Update. The highest version of Safari which runs on Snow Leopard is 5.1.10

  • HT5612 How long should the download take to go from Snow Leopard to the newest version of Mountain Lion?  I started the download 2 hours ago and it's still running.

I have ac OS X version 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.  I bought the upgrade to Mountain Lion and started the download 2 hours ago.  It is still downloading.  What should I do?  Is this typical?

I don't know how to determine how fast it is.
There are several internet sites you can access to test both your upload and download speeds. Among them are:
    Speedtest.net
    Speakeasy.net
    WhatIsMyIP.ccom
Be aware that there can and likely will be wide variations in the tested speed depending on the location of the server running your test, time of day, etc. The results should be taken with a grain of salt and treat variations of less than 10% as inconsequential.

  • Does Snow Leopard resolve the 10.5.7 HDMI issue?

As subject, I was affected by the 10.5.7 update and 10.5.8 did not work for me. Hoping that SL will work at native resolution via HDMI like it used to.

I just bought a LG 42LH50 tv, and use a mini-DVI to DVI adapter that goes to a DVI to HDMI cable on my MacBook (not pro). I see black bars surrounding the screen. Same issue - OS setting says 1080p, tv says 1080p, display is NOT 1920x1080.
I'm going to try it with VGA instead of DVI/HDMI tonight and see if that makes any difference.

  • I want to format my hard drive and install Lion, using Snow Leopard at the moment.

I'm running Snow Leopard at the moment, and would like to install Lion.
But I want to wipe my hard drive clean before doing so, is there a way of formating the hard drive as you install the downloaded lion?
    Thanks for ur answers.

Not that I'm aware of. You can, however, grab the installer file and create a bootable USB thumb drive after downloading Lion and BEFORE you install it. Read here on how to do this.
After downloading, I would let it install. Then reboot with the USB thumb drive, use Disk Utilities to wipe the drive and then install Lion from the thumb drive. Do a backup first.

  • If i have Time Machine backed up on an external hard drive, do i just plug the drive into another macbook pro and all my stuff is in the new computer?  also, does it matter if the new computer is running Lion when the backed up info came from Snow Leopard

If i have Time Machine backed up on an external hard drive, do i just plug the drive into another macbook pro and all my stuff is in the new computer?  Also, does it matter if the new computer is running Lion when the backed up info came from Snow Leopard 10.6.8?

    No and Yes
Don't use TM for this purpose, clone your drive to an external, plug the external into another MBP and reboot from it. Please note that booting a machine that came with Lion may not be possible from a drive with Snow Leopard.

  • I used Roxio VHS to DVD for Mac (have iMac with Snow Leopard) and the audio does not synch with the video when playing in iMovie.  Any suggestions to fix?

I used Roxio VHS to DVD for Mac (have iMac with Snow Leopard) and the audio does not synch with the video when playing in iMovie.  Any suggestions to fix?

Thanks for the reply.  I tried playing with detaching the audio in iMovie, but with 20+ hours of video to correct, it would take too long.  After 28 hours, Corel/Roxio tech support replied that it is a known bitrate mismatch problem and they have no real fix.  I strongly suggest not to buy this product.

  • Is it possible to have a Lion OS and snow Leopard using the bootcamp?

I bought a macbook pro 13" 2011. I have other programs that will run only in Snow Leopard OS just like Logic Pro 8. Is it possible to install snow leopard aside from my current Lion OS? How to install? Is it possible to use both OS in my mac? I need your help. Thanks!

OOPS!  I just noticed you actually have Lion, and want to go back to Snow Leopard.  That may or may not work.  The first test would be to see if you can boot your new MacBook 13" from a Snow Leopard installation DVD, or from another Mac in Firewire Target mode, or a bootable external Snow Leopard disk (SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner created).
If that works, then Yes, but before trying anything make sure you have full backups (SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner, or even TimeMachine).  2 copies would be even better.
Bootcamp is not needed.  Bootcamp is an aid to installing and running the Windows OS
You can install Lion on an exteernal disk, and boot from that by holding down the Option key during boot.
You can repartition your internal disk so you have 2 partitions.  You restore your Snow Leopard backup to one partition, and install Lion on the other.  You can choose to boot into either partition by holding own the Option key during boot.  You could also use System Preferences -> Startup Disk to switch between Snow Leopard and Lion.
You can use virtual machine software (VMware Fusion, Parallels, VirtualBox) on Snow Leopard (does not work the other way), then install Lion in a virtual machine (your MacBook should have a minimum of 4GB if you are going to try this).  This would allow you to run Snow Leopard and Lion at the same time.
You could buy one of those kits that replaces your DVD drive with a Solid State Disk (SSD), and instlal Lion on the SSD, and again boot holding the Option key or use Startup Disk system pref to switch between the OS versions.

  • I have a MacBook Pro 15" and my warranty just ran out! I partitioned my harddrive into two partitions, one with Snow Leopard and the other with microsoft. This morning I turned on my Macbook Pro and it will not boot into Snow Leopard.

    Good Morning,
I have a MacBook Pro 15" and my warranty just ran out! I partitioned my harddrive into two partitions, one with Snow Leopard and the other with microsoft. This morning I turned on my Macbook Pro and it will not boot into Snow Leopard. I shut it off took out the battery, reinstalled the battery. Then I put in the Snow Leopard CD and booted up to disk utility and The Snow Leopard partion would not show up?? I do see the microsoft partion.
I also rebooted holding down the shift key and still no Snow Leopard
Could you please tell me what I can do, what keys do I press on restart any advice to get Snow leopard back.
    thank you.

Have you restarted holding down the Opt key?  That procedure should give you a gray screen with all of the partitions that exist.  Then select the SL partition for boot.  Also go to System Preferences and Startup Disk, unlock the lock and select the SL partition as the default boot partition, then relock.

You stated; " I have been successful with My Power Mac "
A Power Mac is incapable of being upgraded to Mavericks. It is a PPC Mac which can only run versions of OS X up to 10.5.8 and no higher. Any version of OS X higher that 10.5.8 requires an Intel processor to run.
Does the iMac meet the hardware requirements for Mavericks?
