Does Snow Leopard support more than the originally recommended 2 GB RAM?

I have a MacBook Pro I bought in 2006 and it has 1.5 GB RAM. I know, not the best combo. So I want to upgrade it.
Are the specs for 2GB max RAM suggested for Tiger or Leopard only?
Would it make a difference to bump the RAM up to 4GB on my old machine now that I have Snow Leopard?

If it's a Core Duo model the max is 2 GBs. If it's a Core 2 Duo model the max is 4 GBs but only 3 GBs will be usable so you can install 3 GBs or 4 GBs with the same net result.
These limits are hardware determined. The OS does not affect it in any way.

  • Does snow leopard support word '04

I have a book saved on WORD '04.  Does Snow Leopard 10.6.3 allow me to rewrite and resave on Snow Leopard using WORD '04 or must I upgrade to another Word version? Can I use a plug in with WORD '04 saved documents?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Snow Leopard is compatible with Office 2004 for Mac, including Word, so you can use it. However, if you want to upgrade to a newer OS X version, you need to get Office 2008 or 2011 for Mac, because Snow Leopard is the last Mac OS X version that supports Office 2004.
Another option you can consider is to use an application like LibreOffice, free and open-source, which is compatible with newer OS X versions and that can use Office documents. I do not recommend iWork because it does the same as LibreOffice and you have to pay to get it

  • Does Snow Leopard Come Installed on the new MBP's?

I read on here that Leopard and Snow Leopard need to be installed once the computer arrives. Is this true? Meaning that the OS X Snow Leopard is not already installed on the notebook when it arrives! That can't be.
Also, if I purchase One-on-One at thid Apple Store, it mentions (or I heard fro someone that I can use the 1st class or whatever it is called to get help with installing programs, migrating from the old to the new, learning a little about the SL OS, etc.? I hope this is good for people who purchase the notebook from the online Apple Store too. It has to be, right? Yeah!
Finally, any recommendations on heavy-duty external 500 GB max most likely with the option of USB 2.0 or FW 400 or 800. I would rarely be using the FW 800 until after I graduate.
    Thanks!

It can be but may not be true. Apple frequently ships existing inventory made before the latest OS is released (& thus does not have it installed or on the system discs) with what is known as a "drop in" disc, so named because it is dropped in the product box & the box resealed before being sent to retail outlets or to customers for direct sales. Once this inventory is gone, all new units will be shipped with the new OS installed (& on the system discs), until then you may get the new OS in one or the other form.

*One to One* is a separate purchase & includes personalized help for everything you mentioned. Read about it at http://www.apple.com/retail/onetoone/.

What is best for you depends on what you mean by "heavy-duty" & how long it will be before you graduate. Do not expect current hard drives to last more than five years (although many will), so figure this into how long you would be using it after purchase. With the current trends in capacity vs. cost, you will probably be able to buy in two years a drive several times as large as a 500 GB one for cheaper than whatever you pay now, so figure that in as well.
In general, Seagate has a good reputation for longevity (mostly perhaps because of its 5 year warranty on some models). The drive products from Other World Computing are also highly regarded. Personally, I like Buffalo drives, mostly for their low cost, & because I plan on replacing/adding new external drives every 1 ½ to 2 years.
If by heavy-duty you mean mechanically rugged, check out the portable drives marketed for portable use & that characteristic -- some have shock resistant cases & contain hard drives with higher g-force shock ratings than is usual.

  • Does Snow Leopard support MacBook Pro 2007

Posting this on behalf of a friend who has a 17" MacBook Pro from the late 2007 that original had 10.4 installed-- it is running Intel 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo.
From my readings on the web, it is said that Snow Leopard (10.6) supports MacBook Pro that is running Intel chip sets. However, she brought the Pro to some Apple store and the staff says that she cannot install 10.6 on her Pro and can only upgrade to 10.5.
Can anyone confirm this? (and know the reason why?)

    Ian Parkinson wrote:
Legally you DO need Leopard as SL is an update to Leopard.
No, it is not. There are three Snow Leopard licenses. The single user, the family pack, and the discounted update for people who bought a Mac shortly before SL release. It was something like $10. That is the discounted price for the upgrade version.
The 10.5 only purchase price is reduced, but the pack with iLife includes a full price version.
The SL price is "reduced" over previous OS releases because it doesn't offer anything strikingly new from Leopard. It was essentially a rewrite of the Leopard code to make most of the apps 64-bit.
Upgrading from Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard.
If your Intel-based Mac is running Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard, just purchase Mac OS X v10.6.3 Snow Leopard and follow the simple installation instructions.
Upgrading from Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger.
If your Intel-based Mac is running Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger, purchase the Mac Box Set, which is a single, affordable package that includes Mac OS X v10.6.3 Snow Leopard; iLife, with the latest versions of iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, and iDVD; and iWork, Apple’s productivity suite for home and office including Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.
That is a marketing campaign suggesting a good method to move from Tiger to Snow Leopard and get the current iLife apps.
[The Software License Agreement|http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/macosx106.pdf] is specific to the type of purchase you make and what license you have. If you buy a single-user license of Snow Leopard, you can use it on one apple branded computer--no requirement for having Leopard installed or purchased previously.
If you buy a family pack license, you can install it on up to five Apple branded computers. Again, no requirement to have Leopard installed or otherwise.
If you buy a Upgrade for Mac OS X Leopard, you can install it on an Apple branded computer that has Leopard installed.
Those three licenses correspond to the three ways Snow Leopard is sold (or was in the case of the Upgrade for Mac OS X Leopard).
If you buy a single-user license of Snow Leopard, you have a legal right to install it and use it on any one Apple branded computer (that meets the min requirements) regardless of ever owning any other version of Mac OS X.

  • X-Fi ExtremeGamer, does not not support more than 32 channels in

It seems that X-FI ExtremeGamer does not support more that 32 channels in World of Warcraft, when hardware acceleration is on. (32 cahnnels is one tick up).
Any higher than that, and i will get no sound at all.
My old card supported 28 cahnnels (Audigy 2).

The problem isn't with ALchemy. It's with WoW. We're working with Blizzard on the problem, but it happens in Vista with ALchemy or in Windows XP. Here's the fix:
. in the audio options, make sure the "Hardware Acceleration" box is checked
    2. move the "hardware voices" slider to one of the first 3 positions from the left and restart the game.
my suggestion is to start at the third spot from the left and work back.
Again, we're working with Blizzard on this issue. Thanks for posting about it and hopefully that slider will be working properly soon.

  • Does Snow Leopard support this MacBook? MC372 Mid 2010

    Hi,
I'm looking to buy a refurbished Mac Book Pro.
    MC372 Mid 2010
It has Osx 10.7 installed, I may need to install Snow Leopard on instead.
I have a 10.6.3 DVD, will it support this version Mac Book Pro with
    an i5 processor?
    Thanks
    Mike

If you have a Mac Pro desktop system running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 you can Clone the Macintosh HD partition to an external drive and then Boot your mac notebook from that external and then Clone the internal drive of the notebook from that external.
The only thing I would do before starting this process is to run the 10.6.8 Combo update on the Mac Pro desktop system to make sure all the proper drivers are installed so it will run on the Mac notebook you have.
The Combo updater loads all drivers for all model Mac computers that version of OS X can run on. The Software Update version of the 10.6.8 update only loads/installs drivers for the specific Mac computer model it is being installed on.
You can download that Combo updater from the Apple Support Download website.

Hi, this computer works fine with Ubuntu (10.10, Unity makes it a dog ), unusably slow with Vista, and who knows about Win7.
If you have successfully added more RAM than the 2gigs which supposedly is the max, let me know how it went. 4 gigs would make things so much better.

  • Does ipad mini do more than the apple kindle fire hd?

We have 2 Kinfle Fire HD's and freceived an apple ipad mini as a gift.  What is the difference between the 2 apple products?

They are different in some ways and similar in others, just like computer at run Mac OS vs. computers that run Windows. Now that you have one of each, you can use them and compare. You might want to start by looking at the manual for the iPad:

  • Why does blast internet cost more than the tv/internet

This is absolutely ridiculous.  I am paying twice as much for twice as less.  I don't have other choices of ISPs in my areas otherwise I'd leave immediately.  I have had constant disconnections with Xfinity several service calls and no resolution.  This is one of the worst ISPs I have ever had to deal with and they have the balls to charge a ridiculous price where as in other parts of the world they pay 15$ for 10x the speed I have.

I have never received a private message from you.  Today is 8/11/15 and I am still having connectivity issues.  Three technicians were sent to my home none resolved the issues.  You people have failed the Comcast Guarantee and I have not received the 40$ that's part of that guarantee.  I visited the service center near me because I have not received any help from any of your communication methods.  When I went there I was rudely greeted by Gina who told me the service center only provides modems and refused to talk to me.  The situation was so surreal the manager had to stop helping his customer to assist me and make an appointment with a 4th technician.  I have also been promised callbacks from supervisors and never received them.  Throughout this time you people have lied to me constantly and made it extremely inconvenient and time consuming to even attempt to resolve my issue.  I have never been treated so horribly as a customer in my entire life.  I even filed a report with the FCC but your Executive Relations person Christina M. had the ticket closed even though I still am having connectivity issues.  Two of the technicians gave me their # and email yet I cannot send any email to them because comcast servers refuse to complete the request and none of the phone # work.

Remote Authentication Dial In User Service (RADIUS)
Do you or your employer use a Radius server, if not then the question is moot
    WPA2 Personal will be fine.

I recently upgraded to Mavericks from Snow Leopard. Does Snow Leopard still exist on my Mac? If so, is it possible to restart under Snow Leopard in order to run PowerPC apps? If not, is there an OS available in 64 bit that supports PowerPC apps? Mav ***.

The only reason I upgraded to Mavericks was because my Snow Leopard OS was 32 bit, which I was told would support only 4GB of RAM.
That wasn't quite right. You can put in as much RAM as your Mac's hardware supports. The division is in the apps themselves. A 32 bit app can't use more than 4 GB or RAM. A 64 bit app can use much more.
For example, as a 32 bit only version, Photoshop CS3 can't use more 4GB of RAM, no matter how much you actually have installed. CS4 or later can use all the RAM you want to throw at it.
