Does Spotlight support search of AppleWorks content?

I seem to be having trouble finding content searches of years of AppleWorks documents when doing a search in Spotlight. I have all the Spotlight settings correct, but it does not find items that I know are there and can bring up via other methods of looking at my files. Any help?
Is there a way to reset Spotlight?

Thanks for the info. It's a local problem with the Mac mini it seems. I obviously don't have a solution, but if it were me I'd:
1) Create a new User account for myself on the Mac mini and see if the problem occurs there. (You do this in System Preferences.) If this fixes problem then I'd delete my 'old' User account.
2) Do an Archive and Install of Mac OS X. This would keep my User account intact including network settings, etc. However, it's likely to leave the Spotlight index intact as well and not solve the problem.
3) Backup my documents, erase the Mac mini and reinstall Mac OS X. (A radical step which would gobble up my day.) This forces a fresh Spotlight index on all content.
Sorry I couldn't help more.

  • Captivate 7 App packager Browser does not support some of the content message

    Hi
    I have succesfully creating a training app using the app packager for IOS (and to a certain extent android), however when you start the app a message starts up saying :"This browser does not support some of the content in the file you are trying to view.  Use IE 9 or later, Safari 5.1 or later etc. "  The interesting thing is that I am using the latest versions of both safari and chrome?
    I checked out the javascript and and althouth there is an "if then" test, clearly it is not testing correctly.  Has someone got a fix for this e.g. modifications to the code to make it work?

  • Does Oracle Support Searches with Sentence and Paragraph Proximity?

    I have successfully used SENTENCE and PARAGRAPH special groups and the WITHIN operator to search for terms contained within the same sentence and/or paragraph. However, I also need to search for terms that are located within a variable number of sentences or paragraphs of each other. For example, I could search for the term 'dog' and the 'cat' located within 3 sentences of each other. Is this possible in Oracle Text? I have searched the documentation and I can only find the 'near' operator for searching based on word proximity. I cannot find any mention of sentence or paragraph proximity. This is a very important requirement for the system.

    Good question. We are trying to duplicate the functionality of an existing system. It was written into the requirements for the new system. I've asked how important this functionality is to the actual users, but we don't have the answer to that question yet. Knowing that Oracle Text does not support this out of the box, we will certainly need to evaluate the importance of this feature and determine whether it warrants some custom development or switching to another search technology.
    I've thought about using regular expressions to implement this feature, but I'm guessing that the performance wouldn't be that great and it wouldn't integrate well with other Oracle Text searches. Has anyone else used regular expressions combined with Oracle Text to implement more sophisticated searching capabilities?

  • Does Spotlight index/search Aperture keywords?

    I can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere:
    Does Spotlight (OS X 10.5) index and search keywords that are assigned in Aperture? IOW: is the Aperture library indexed?
    I recently bought Aperture and have imported thousands of photos into various Projects. I've been adding new keywords (all my files are referenced to their original place on the filesystem) but when I go to do a Spotlight search or create a SavedSearch/Smart Folder none of the images I've tagged in Aperture appear in the results.
    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks--

  • Spotlight search for AppleWorks Database and Tables

    Hello,
    how can i make Spotlight to search in AppleWorks-Database and AppleWorks-Tables?
    Thanks
    Achim

    As Yvan says, Spotlight doesn't search these files directly.
    I have many AppleWorks Database files, some of which are regularly updated. My preferred workaround method to take advantage of Spotlight is to make pdf files as I find them better for searching than text files. (You can retain the layout of your database, and also list all the occurrences of the search item in the file.)
    For each AppleWorks Database I do the following:
    • Make a new layout and name it "For pdf".
    • Put all the data fields I might want to search in that layout
    • Make the layout black & white only (i.e. black text on a white background) to keep the file size small.
    • Save that layout as a pdf file using Print => Save as pdf
    Of course when I add a significant amount of data to a particular database file, I need to make a new pdf to replace the present one.

  • Where does Spotlight search??

    I have a file located in ~/Library/Favorites/. If I search (Cmd-F) for the filename Spotlight will find the file if my search starts in
    ~/Library/Favorites/ or
    ~/Library/
    but not if my search starts in
    ~ or
    "This Mac"
    What's the deal? Is this some Preference that I'm missing? I tried adding ~/Library to the Spotlight System Preferences Search Results tab by dragging the folder from the Finder over there, but no go. Does Spotlight only search stuff listed here? Is there some way to add more stuff? What is the category labeled "Folders"? I read the meager Help, but it didn't.

    That was helpful. Pasting the relevant information form the MacRumors forum posting by macguysoft below. Too bad spotlight makes it sooo difficult.
    Step 1: Go to the Finder Search (Command + F or File > Find)
    Step 2: Click on the "Kind" drop-down menu and click on other.
    Note: If you don't see this pop up button, then make click on the "+" button right after Save.
    Step 3: You'll see a dialog pop up and find System files. Once there, select the checkbox. Now go back to the search Window by clicking on the OK button.
    Step 4 Make sure that the System files is selected in the first drop down menu. Now proceed to the Second drop down menu and select "include".
    Now you can search for all your system files but don't expect for this to work with spotlight. Furthermore, you'll have to manually do this every time (only step 4 actually) you wish to search for something in your system. Hope this helps!

  • How do you search for file content in Mountain Lion?

    I recently upgrade my MacBook Pro to Mountain Lion. I used to use spotlight to search for specific content within files before the upgrade. Now spotlight is only giving me file names and won't allow me to search for content within the files, even if I used quotations in my search. Is this just a glich on my computer or is there something I need to reset? Thanks!

    Try rebuilding the Spotlight index.  Go into the Spotlight privacy pane, and then add your hard drive to the "privacy" section.  This will erase its index.  Then remove your hard drive from the index and Spotlight will rebuild  the index.  It will take an hour or two.

  • Does Spotlight Search HTML Files?

    I have a folder full of HTML files I just imported to my MacBook about a week ago. They have been backed up by my Time Capsule. But when I search for keywords in the contents of them, they do not show up. The file names will show up, but none of the contents (which are mainly text). I have tried to force Spotlight to search only the folder that contains the files, but it does not seem to be searching the HTML files.
    Are HTML file contents excluded from Spotlight searches? I seem to have a number of webpages that come in Spotlight for keyword searches that appear to be the result of searching the file contents. So is there a trick to this? Is there some way I can force Spotlight to index this folder? Just not sure why it seems to search the contents of some HTML files and not others.

    Are HTML file contents excluded from Spotlight searches?
    No, HTML files are not excluded.
    Open System Preferences > Spotlight, under Search Results tab is Webpages checked?
    If yes, download a new html file and see if Spotlight finds it. If yes, then it could be a permissions issue with the files you imported. Do a Get Info and compare permissions between the new and old files.
    You can reset your permissions on all your files similar to Disk Utility using the Recovery Drive. See instructions here:
    Use OS X Recovery Disk Assistant to reset Your files and folder permissions

  • Does endeca support multiple keyword search

    Am new to endeca.
    Does endeca support multiple keyword search in atg crs.
    an eg can we search for "shirt,shoes" and get results for both

    How specifically to implement this depends on how you are querying Endeca.  With a simple URL parameter query using the UrlENEQuery object you would set the parameter of Ntx=mode+matchany, and if you were using the ENEQuery class you would set it like:
    ENEQuery query = new ENEQuery();
    ERecSearchList searchList = new ERecSearchList();
    String matchMode = searchTerms.contains(",") ? "mode+matchany" : "mode+matchallpartial";
    ERecSearch search = new ERecSearch( "your-search-interface", searchTerms, matchMode );
    searchList.add( search );
    query.setNavERecSearches( searchList );
    If you are using the Assembler Service, you can include the Ntx parameter in the call, so you would wrap your call with some conditional logic, e.g.:
    String serviceCall = null;
    if( searchTerms.contains(",") ) {
       serviceCall = "assember/xml/browse?Ntt=shirt,shoes&Ntx=mode+matchany";
    } else {
      serviceCall = "assember/xml/browse?Ntt=shirt,shoes&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial";
    If you are using the Content Assembler API within your application, it will depend on how you are invoking it but some of the above should help you customise appropriately.

  • How far back does spotlight go to search sms.

    Does anyone know how far back spotlight will search for sms? Does it find sms from 6 or 7 months ago or does it only show more recent and if so any idea how recent. Does this differ in older phones or older IOS's.

    Seems so, per my post at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2044448&tstart=0. Can't believe such a f*up.

  • Does the 20" Display support high-definition (HDTV) content?

    Hi, I recently installed bootcamp on my mbp. In order to use my apple 20" display as the primary display I had to install an nvidia driver and it is asking me if my display supports high definition (hdtv) content. It says if I click yes and the display can't it could severely damage the display... So does anybody know if my 20" display supports this? Any comment is appriciated, thanks!
    Finley

    The 20" will handle some HD (720p) but not 1080. I don't know if Windows considers it HD or not, but the wrong driver won't cause any damage (it could with a CRT).

    .\SQLCMD.EXE -S \\.\pipe\MICROSOFT##WID\tsql\query -d "SUSDB" -Q "update tbConfigurationC set BitDownloadPriorityForegroud=1"
    This should be considered a temporary fix. It will saturate your Internet connection during periods of WSUS downloads in this configuration.
    The correct and permanent fix should be to resolve the failure of your perimeter device to properly support the HTTP v1.1 protocol specification (which is now some 14 years old).
    Either your device is misconfigured, or it needs a firmware update to support the full specification.

    Word Processing documents can be opened directly in Pages 4 (AppleWorks 6 only) but this is no longer available from Apple - the new Pages 5 (Mavericks required) does not open AppleWorks documents. (The older version is contained in the iWork '09 box set which may still be available from Amazon and other independent retailers.) Panergy Software's docXConverter v3.2 ($19.95) can convert Appleworks 5 and 6 Word Processing documents to RTF (though it has been reported that it can only handle documents which contain only text, not those which include images or frames). The latest version of the free LibreOffice has announced that it can open AppleWorks 6 Word Processing documents and an ability to open ClarisWorks documents has been reported: it does appear to be able to handle at least some embedded images.
    Draw Documents can be opened directly only in EazyDraw (the more expensive version from their website, not the cheaper one from the Mac App Store, and you will need v4.0 'Retro' not the most recent version) or Intaglio (though this appears not to be able to handle very complex drawings). LibreOffice will open simple Draw documents but I found it very unreliable with complex ones.
    Spreadsheets can be opened directly only in the older versions of  Numbers - the new version for Mavericks will not do this. The old version is no longer available from Apple. (Again, the older version is contained in the iWork '09 box set which may still be available from Amazon and other independent retailers.)
    Presentations can be opened directly only in the older versions Keynote; again, the new version for Mavericks will not do this. The old version is no longer available from Apple. (The older version is contained in the iWork '09 box set which may still be available from Amazon and other independent retailers.)
    Nothing will open Database documents. You would need to export the data as ASCII and import it into another database program; you will lose your formatting and calculations will come over as the result, not the calculation.

    Your iphone is right, it is not supported. The iphone's bluetooth protocols do not include file transfer, but are intendes only for headsets, stereo headphones, cars, and keyboards.
