Does Spotlight work now under 10.4.4-Finally?

OK. Apple release 10.4.4 today. Does Spotlight work now? Finally?
I was burned when I downgraded from Panther to Tiger. What a pain reinstalling Panther! And I'm still not sure I got rid of all remnants of Tiger. I don't want to go thru that experience again. So I'll stick with Panther until I'm confortable that Spotlight works.

Consider that there may be thousands of files in a UNIX based system that are off limits to a user account for one reason or another. This complicates the design of search engines, whether index-based or not. For instance, security & privacy would be compromised if the search engine was allowed full access to other users' home folders.
Beyond that, huge numbers of files are generated by the system, many with arcane names that, by themselves, mean nothing to users. In general, including these in name search results would mean the user would often have to wade through long lists to find anything useful.
With this in mind, we probably would not be happy with a search engine that really did identify every file existent that matched, for instance, a partial name search term. It would be like trying to drink from a fire hose.
Worse, with literally hundreds of thousands of files to search, it would be very slow unless it relied on some sort of index or database. Imagine how complicated this would be in a networked environment and/or one with multiple drives & removable media constantly being mounted & unmounted.
This, I think, helps explain why Spotlight is designed as it is. It is far from perfect, but it at least attempts to address the issue of returning useful results quickly.

Have you tried using the iPod with another user account or computer, to help narrow down whether the problem lies with the computer, account, or the iPod itself?
Maybe try reformatting it, using the tools provided by Windows. Instructions on how to reformat your iPod can be found in this article.

Tom at the Genius Bar told me that Option Delete would work. It does not.
I had to upgrade to iTunes 11.1.(I26) because it is required with OS7 on my iPod Touch (5th Gen). I have tried shutting down iTunes, then shutting down the entire system. This is the first in many visits that the Genius Bar gave me a solution that did not work.
This is a big awkward computer locked to my desk. I would rather not unlock it and then carry it through a shopping center to the Genius Bar if i can avoid oit.
When I installed iTunes 11.1, I discovered that Ihad to resubscribe to virtually all of the podcasts that I had previously been subscribed to. That was a surprise.

I did not read the rather long post. If you wish to reinstall OS X 10.4, use your software install DVD. Backup is essential. To minimize your risk, I would use an archive and install:

In that way, you will have a fresh copy of OS X and your current settings will be preserved.
Incidentally, I do not agree that the printer problem is best solved by reinstalling OS X. I have had HP printers for sometime and, on one occasion, had difficulty after an upgrade. HP technical support walked me through uninstalling all traces of the HP driver and then reinstalling.

My iMac mouse right click does not work now. It was fine a couple of days ago.
Right click is definitely enabled, I have checked it several times.
A Google search revealed that in Firefox it could be that I'm not using the latest version of Firebug. I have auto updates on and Firebug is the latest version 1.11.3
I use right click for correcting spell checked words, instead of a suggested correct spelling I get the 'open in a new tab' menu.
In Firefox when I right click to open in a new tab I get the menu but it does nothing.
It is driving me mad

I don't use Firefox so I can't test it, but it might be something to do with a preference setting. Have a look at this link (ignore all the instructions), just look at the image of the preferences, there appears to be a setting in Javascript preferences relating to contextual menus. Check to see what your settings are:

Sorry, but if you have forgotten the password for your encrypted backup, you'll have to start all over again:
Make sure that the password you use is one that you'll remember. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you won't be able to restore from backup, and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and choose set up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.

Office 2008 is the oldest version that runs under lion. Office 2004 requires rosetta, which was discontinued as of 10.7. you'll have to upgrade to office 2008 or newer if you're using lion!

My KT3 does not work now.

;( My KT3 main board does not work anymore. It worked great for a few days, but, only until I installed the chipset drivers that came with the the main board. I formatted my drive to fix the problem and could not sucessfully load any kind of operating system. I have already lost faith in MSI main boards because of this. They SUCK!!!!! Using one copy of Logic 8 on multiple computers, how does it work now?

Now Apple has done away with the dongle, what's the system for using Logic 8 on more than one computer?
I have a laptop and a desktop (both still on Logic 7), i used to just take the dongle from one machine to the other, what can i expect to be doing when i upgrade to Logic 8? I assume you simply go online and register the machine you want to use with your serial number, is this correct? How long does it take? Can you do this several times a day if you want to?

Before you install on each computer, put the dongle in first then run the installation routine.
You may install Logic Studio on up to two computers but you may not run it on more than one at a time. In fact, if the two computers are networked, you won't be able to run them on both at the same time.
Yes, you may swap as often as you like - there's no limitation, except that you must close down Logic on one before you start the other.

I'm attempting to make a Breakout version of java (if I go through with it) and the first issue that I encountered is that I can't change the color of the moving rectangle (you know, the thing you hit the ball with). I tried the code under Textpad on a Windows machine and that worked fine, but not under Netbeans in Linux using jdk 1.6.0_01.

I can only make it work if I disable OOPP for the Flash plugin and close and restart Firefox.
It works if I copy and paste the URL of the Flash in the location bar, but as soon as I use HTML code then it fails.

How do I set up Mail for ATT email? It was previously working and does not work now.

Do not to this if your server is handling incoming mail from outside your network.
Few remote mail servers will use SSL, so if your server requires SSL then you will not be able to receive mail from outside your domain.
'Use', on the other hand, advertises the fact your server supports SSL, so clients and remote servers can use if if they like, but this still allows other mail in.

Do not use Plain unless you absolutely trust all your clients (i.e. they're all on a LAN or all using SSL). Plain sends an unencrypted password over the wire, which is susceptible to sniffing.

My bank has suddenly bought into the Trusteer Rapport security software and is urging me to install it. At the top of this forum is a warning, now over a year old, that some versions of Trusteer Rapport conflict with InDesign.
Can anyone confirm that they are running a current version of Trusteer Rapport without conflict?
I need to run InDesign CS4 and InDesign CS5 without problems.
I tried searching, but of course, the search function is broken.

I haven't seen a report of a problem with Trusteer Rapport in quite some time.
