Does standard OSX 10.5.6 ship with a SMPT mail server

Hi
I'm looking to run an outgoing mail server from my mac to get around my ISPs limited ("anti-spam") outgoing mail restrictions of 250 emails per 10 minutes. We have another ISP that can should be marked as the Sender account and will receive all the bounces and subcribe/unsubscribes to the newsletter. I need to send attachments otherwise I could send them all from this other ISPs Bulk mailer application.
I realise this is the server forum (and I am on standard OSX Leopard 10.5.6) , but I though this the most effective List to post this Topic as knowledge of SMPT Mail Servers could be assumed.
Any offerings gratefully received in advance.

Thank-you for the link. I don't think I know enough to apply the information there. Any other documentation that is for somebody without a CSc/IT education?

The mail server responded what is that question. You posted what looks like half the error message. So like you I do not understand. Those message have a second half that explains what the problem is.

I had this same problem with both my imac and mac book pro using hotmail via mac mail with bt as my internet provider. Suddenly 4 months ago out of nowhere i could receive emails but could not send them. I scoured all the threads followed all the fixes none of them worked. However I just phoned apple support and fixed it in a matter of minutes. I am SO happy. This is what the technician advised me:
Go to your apple icon and scroll down to system preferences. Then dependant on what machine you have it is different for my imac and mac book pro click on either air port/wifi then the advanced tab in the bottom right hand corner. Then click on the DNS tab. Hit the + sign on the left hand side and type in 8.8.8.8 then hit the + sign again on the left hand side it will create a new line underneathe and type 8.8.4.4 then hit okay on the bottom right and then hit apply, again on the bottom right. Then send a test email to check but it should be fixed.
Had to share this. Its been driving me mad for months.

when I search - the search results show and i can view the emails, but inbox doesnt download emails - says load more messages x read..
the folders are displaying ok.
Smartermail 2 is about 10 years old ( im not upgrading as its working fine other than this issue ) imap is fine with other mail clients.
has anyone else experienced this?

How do I fix my iPod touch's problem with hotmail outgoing mail server?

I have just received a new replacement iPod touch 8Gb.
On my old model I used the house wifi network to connect to HOTMAIL in the mail app it would set the account up immediately and work perfectly.
This time, when I tried to set the account up I had a long delay while it verified account details. Then after opting to set up account without using SSL an account was generated with an error message to say I may not be able to send or receive mail.
Incoming mail is OK, outgoing is not working.
The error message told me that I needed to configure my outgoing mail server.
My default outgoing server is set to smtp.live.com and works on port 587.
I have an additional server set to 'on', which is also smtp.live.com working on port 465, which was set up when I tried to alter the port number on the default server. Still no outgoing mail.
Any suggestions?

Followed your instructions and again, account verification failed using SSL.
I chose to create without SSL and got the following message:
'The SMTP server 'smtp.live.com' is not responding'. I accepted the details,
the email Inbox populated, and everything looks normal.
Same error is occuring:
'Connection to outgoing server 'smtp.live.com' failed. Additional outgoing mail servers can be configured in settings>mail,contacts and calendars'
The settings are as follows:
Incoming mail server
Host Name: pop3.live.com
username: is correct
password: is correct
Outgoing SMTP:
Primary server
host name: smtp.live.com
username: is correct
password: is correct (has been re-entered just in case)
Use SSL: OFF
Authentication: password
server port 587
I have duplicate SMTP servers listed under 'Other SMTP servers' with exactly the same details as above so it seems as if the iPod is retaining some settings even after I delete account.
Also, I wonder if there is anything I need to get the network administrator to do, because he did ask for the Wi-Fi address of my previous iPod touch could it just be a case of allowing it as a specific device on our network?

i Have a issue with my mail server running over linux server, i have a especific problem when i try to authentificate in server. i test with a 10.4 and 10.5 S.O. The trouble is when i try to send mail from my server, the mail can not send the mail but can receive the mail, the mail.app send the error it can't not send mail over the server. My server using the plaint text authentication and never send the mail. But a test with the microsof entourage and i can send mail without problems, the issue only happen with mail. Only can send mail if put the static ip address in my mac whithout dhcp not send and not valide with server. I test from out side of my server and other ISP but i not have result.

Have you tried holding the MENU and SELECT (center) buttons until you see the Apple logo to reset it?

Sounds to me like you're using SSL for your Mail server? That's what we do. So when you log in to the web interface you have to log in w/ httpS://. Then the link should be active.

DOES MAC OSX 10.6.8 WORK WITH PRO TOOLS 9HD?

When does the Version 2.x get shipped with iTouch

I recently (within the last 2 weeks) bought an iTouch and now they want more money to get the latest software. It seems that Version 2.x has been out for several months - not sure if I just got old stock. Can I just return it and get a newer one. How do I tell how old the stock is (assuming mine is old stock).

You likely purchased a IPT Gen. 1 albeit for a very good price. Likely it says Jan 2008 software upgrade on you order form, which is 1.x. What does it say on your order form? I suspect you got what you paid for. Which model did you get (8/16/32 GB) and what did you pay for it? It's $9.95 to upgrade from 1.x to 2.x. No need to return it.

Mail app does not sync "Sent" or "Read" messages with my iPhone mail app.

I just started using a new Mac Mini (running 10.9.1). I have the Mail app connected to a handfull of different email addresses, and my iPhone mail app is connected to the same addresses. If I send a message on one device, the other device will not show it. If I read a message on one, the other will not show that I've read it.
I assume the two Apple devices, both running up-to-date operating systems and using the native Mail app, should be communicating with each other in a way that allows me to work between the two seamlessly. Am I just incorrect in my assumption, is there something I can fix, or is this a bug we're waiting to have repaired?

Actually, my Gmail is the one that does work appropriately. I have a few IMAP addresses I use that do not sync between devices.

Agree with Thamara. Exchange is the only platform supported for presence as well as voice functionality. The client uses EWS to communicate with the server to check calendar integration, nothing else is going to mimic this properly enough to
avoid issues.

AppleWorks not shipped with OS9 anymore ?

Hello all,
I have a mini with OSX installed. I got a friend that had wrote a book on his iMac (os9) with AppleWorks.
He's asking me to review his work but AppleWorks is not shipped with the OSX ?
I can't read his work in iWork's Pages and have to convert it into Word6 for windows on a Pc !
Why AppleWorks is not present on the os9 cdrom shipped with my MacMini ?

On Apple's main Mac mini bundled software page, it does not appear that AppleWorks is shipped with Mac minis.
However, on the French AppleStore page (sorry, can't link to it because it's a session), it says that it is.
So either the French AppleStore specification is out of date, or you have AppleWorks on one of the software disks that came with your mini.
AppleWorks is not part of the operating system (either OS9 or OSX), and you may need to install it separately.

Just received email that custom RMBP is being delivered in UK on 19/7/12. Does anyone know if it will ship with Lion (with a free upgrade to come) or with Mountain Lion pre installed?
