Does Stereo really work in SoundTrack?

I am trying to find a way to edit clips I have shot and work on the individual channels. I have shot with two microphones and naturally put one mic on left channel and the other (a lav) on the right. Final Cut happily shows the two channels correctly with two different waveforms, but when I try to work on it in STP it displays both channels as having the same waveforms?
So now I am wondering if this program really does do stereo? Whenever I open a clip it shows both channels the same and who nows what it will produce when I save the modifications? Maybe its automatically making a mono mix?
I will do more testing to see. Hopefully this is just some bizarre setup problem with my system and someone will just jump in with a helpful quick-fix?

Hi Collings,
Thanks for the response! I appreciate the thoughts and your time!
I recently ran into some trouble sending my audio
from FCP to STP. It turns out I had caputred two
mono tracks instead of a single stereo track. (In
the Log and Caputre window on the "Clip Settings"
tab, there's an Audio box, and each pair of channels
in that box has a button labeled "O O" next to it.
When you click the button it overlaps the O's and
joins that pair into a single stereo pair.)
This is a good hint. I had not noticed this. But since I have indeed got two separate mono tracks it looks like I had it set right anyway. All my tracks are captured as mono track since they show up that way in the viewer.
I also noticed that when I double-click my clip in
FCP's Brower to open it in the Viewer that the tabs
at the top of the viewer will read "Video, Mono (a1),
Mono (a2), Filters Motion" for dual mono files, and
"Video, Stereo (a1a2), Filters, Motion" for the
stereo files. With my dual mono files, I have to
click on the both the a1 and a2 tabs and pan them
left and right to hear stereo at all.
This is important for a variety of reasons.. First
off, you can't send a clip to STP as a stereo Audio
Project if it comes from a dual mono file, even if
you stereo link the two audio tracks on the FCP
timeline. For my true stereo files, I can send them
as either audio projects or multitrack projects and
everything is perfect.
I do not have any true stereo files - all are regular mono files from 2 microphones.
For my dual mono files, it's a lot more complicated.
- I can't send as an STP audio project at all unless
I option-click on either the left or right channel to
select it alone. In that case it allows me to send
it as a mono clip.
I presume you mean "Control-click" to send as a mono clip. So if I control-click and do "send-to audio file project" it STP will open the same movie in either case. It is definitely not the Left channel in my case. Possibly it is the right channel but I think it is opening up a mix of left and right. At anyrate it sounds the same whether I open up the left or right channel. An in my case the two microphones are VERY different. I am certain I am not hearing the left channel alone. I would be very interested if you were in fact opening each channel separately. BTW I am editing HDV files not DV files. Not sure if that might make a difference.
- Weather or not I "stereo link" the files when I
send to an STP multitrack project, I get two mono
tracks as I'd expect. The first track is labeled A1,
the second A2. The tracks seem distinct, and I can
edit them separately.
I guess this is what I used to think too. But is it really distinct? In my case one track was recorded at a much lower level than the other, so when they came out identical in STP I knew something was wrong. I would be interested if you are certain the two tracks are really different.
When I try to open my video files that have dual mono
tracks in STP using the "File/Open..." menu, I'm
seeing something like what you describe with only a
single audio channel open in the STP waveform editor.
I don't think it's mixing the two audio tracks,
however.. I think it's showing me A1.
Now.. If I DRAG that same DV file to an empty STP
multitrack project and drop it on the video track in
the time line, it will open both mono audio tracks in
the timeline, and I'm able to edit each separately.
This is probably what you want for your project.
(Don't forget to pan them left and right if they
really do contain stereo data, or you will hear them
both from both speakers!)
I did try the drag thing. I just get a stereo track again with the fictional waveform showing both tracks the same.
You might also try the round-tripping (Send To...)
feature of FCP..
As above, I have tried the "send to" with identical results.

  • TIME MACHINE - How does it really work?

    Dear Mac users and Apple;
    I am new to Mac. For most of my life I used Windows OS. One of the cool features on my new iMac 24'' is TM. In the past I used to use Norton Ghost for creating back ups and safeguarding my data.
    Though there is a lot of info on www.apple.com and in the forums I can not find any satisfactory information about the true way of how Time Machine (TM) works.
    Below I describe all my concerns, but in order to put them into perspective here is what I was used to on PC while using Norton Ghost. I would run a one time back up of my whole system drive (C:) and other drive (D:) which had my documents on it and then schedule regular back ups (weekly in my case). These were incremental back ups which only " added" the files which changed in the mean time. Of course, this method also meant that anything done between the back ups was at risk of being lost until next back up took place.
    When I stated using TM, I assumed a lot of how it works based on my experience described above. However, I ran across this forum http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6096304&#6096304 and got pretty confused as to how it really works. I searched for explanations but all I find is us users guessing. I believe Apple should provide its customers with clear explanation and documentation how TM works.
    If you read the long formum thread you will understand what I am talking about. If not here is a rough summary.
    A guy backed up his data using TM, then after checking it is there he deleted the originals from the source drive only to find out later that the back ups were deleted from TM as well.
    The thread goes on and these are the questions I have as a result - I kindly beg you to answer them for me:
    1. TM does 1st back up of the whole Mac, at first - correct? This data stays until TM runs out of space on the back up drive, correct?
    2.)TM does hourly back ups which are kept for 24 hrs (one day), then only a daily back up stays - which one out of the 24 is considered the daly back up? Or is it a separate back up?
    3.)TM does daily back ups which stay for a month then are deleted?
    4.)TM does weekly back up and this back up stays until TM runs out of space on the back up destination drive, correct? If yes, when does it take place?( 7days from the initial back up and then again each 7 days?
    5.) If I create a file and then delete it before hourly back up stores it, it is not backed up at all, correct?
    6.) If I create a file and then delete it once it was backed up by the hourly back up is it stored for 24 hours (one day) and then deleted?
    7.) If I create a file and delete it once it was backed up by the daily backup, it stays for a month in the back ups of TM but then is deleted?
    8.) If I create a file and it is backed up by the weekly back up, then is deleted - it resides in the weekly back up until TM runs out of space on the destination back up drive and deletes the original weekly back up, correct?
    From this, if my assumptions above are right, it means that only files backed up by the weekly back up are kept until back up destination drive has space left. Then it would mean that it is important for me to know when the weekly back up takes place, so that I know that "now is the time and the files I have on my source drive now will stay in the target back up drive as long as it has space".
    Further, it would mean that the hourly and daily back ups are kind of temporary back ups which give me the chance to restore the file within 24 hrs if backed up in the hourly back up, or restore it within one month if backed up by the daily back up. If backed up by the weekly back up, then it can be restored any time as long as the back up drive is not full. Is that correct?
    IF I do a forced back up (Ctrl click on TM in the dock and then order it " Back up now") is this a back up which stays until back up external disk is full or is it a temporary back up (like the hourly and/or daily)?
    Another issue is as follows: If I delete an application from my hard drive BUT it was backed up in the past by TM - can that application be launched automatically without first asking for my (users) permission from the TM's back up on the eternal hard drive? E.g. I install Adobe reader - it is backed up by TM. Then I uninstall it. Then, I download a PDF document, click it to open - does Adobe reader open from the TM back up? If NOT - great, that is how I expect it to work. If YES, then does it warn me about being opened from TM back up? YES it does warn me - great work apple. NO it does not - why? If the later is the case then if you exchange Adobe reader for spyware or malware or a virus, you have a vulnerability how viruses etc. can be reintroduced to system from TM back ups even after cleaned from the original hard disk. Please let me know how it really works.

    1. TM does 1st back up of the whole Mac, at first - correct? This data stays until TM runs out of space on the back up drive, correct?
    Respectively right and wrong. Out of all the hourly backups it makes, TM keeps only the first of each day for longer than 24 hours and one (presumably the first) of each week longer than one month. Any data which is not part of one of the retained backups is lost. Clearly this may happen long before the drive runs out of space and TM begins deleting the retained backups (oldest first).
    2.)TM does hourly back ups which are kept for 24 hrs (one day), then only a daily back up stays - which one out of the 24 is considered the daly back up? Or is it a separate back up?
    TM keeps only the first backup of each day for longer than 24 hours. When you bring up a daily backup in TM's browser, you will see on the big shiny black bar along the bottom not only the date but the precise time of the backup you are looking at.
    3.)TM does daily back ups which stay for a month then are deleted?
    One per week is retained (presumably the first but Apple isn't saying and I haven't seen that confirmed by anyone yet). The others are deleted.
    4.)TM does weekly back up and this back up stays until TM runs out of space on the back up destination drive, correct? If yes, when does it take place?( 7days from the initial back up and then again each 7 days?
    Don't know about timing. By analogy with the daily backups I would guess first of the week. But remember this is not a separate backup, it is one of the original hourly backups which survives the progressive culling process.
    5.) If I create a file and then delete it before hourly back up stores it, it is not backed up at all, correct?
    Correct.
    6.) If I create a file and then delete it once it was backed up by the hourly back up is it stored for 24 hours (one day) and then deleted?
    It is stored for at least 24 hours. If it was never on the first backup of any day it will not survive longer. Otherwise it will.
    7.) If I create a file and delete it once it was backed up by the daily backup, it stays for a month in the back ups of TM but then is deleted?
    If it was in the first backup of any day then it will be in the backup with that date so long as that backup is retained (at least 30 days and until the drive is full if that day is retained as the weekly backup).
    8.) If I create a file and it is backed up by the weekly back up, then is deleted - it resides in the weekly back up until TM runs out of space on the destination back up drive and deletes the original weekly back up, correct?
    If it is in the backup chosen as the weekly backup it will be available until that backup is deleted by TM for lack of space.
    I wouldn't advise thinking like this. If you wish to retain long term a particular file TM is not the answer. You should separately archive it outside TM. As has been pointed out elsewhere, you could just copy it to the drive TM is running on, but outside TM's backup folder (however note that this will reduce the space available for TM's backups).
    Correct.
    IF I do a forced back up (Ctrl click on TM in the dock and then order it " Back up now") is this a back up which stays until back up external disk is full or is it a temporary back up (like the hourly and/or daily)?
    Good question. I have no reason to think that forced backups are priviledged in any way, but who knows? Anyone got any comment?
    I install Adobe reader - it is backed up by TM. Then I uninstall it. Then, I download a PDF document, click it to open - does Adobe reader open from the TM back up?
    Nothing in the backups is available to you until you have restored it. Interesting question is: if an application is restored, are any other files its original installer would have placed in the system and are needed to run it restored as well? One would like to think so but maybe that's too hard for TM? I would recommend that any major application that has been disinstalled be reinstalled from the original disks rather than relying on TM. Of course, if you've just accidently trashed an application file you can restore it from TM no problem.
    Only after restoring it from TM can you use it.
    Hope these comments help and anyone with more info adds their piece. TM is proving more confusing than it looked at first glance!

  • Does Convergent really work with Verizon for Collections?

    Hi There!
    I had some issues with Verizon a few months back, i won't get into the details, but needless to say i was ****** off enough to cancel my service after 11 years of being a customer.
    When they added up my last bill + termination fees it was around $1000, i don't tend to have that kind of money laying around, so i offered to make payments of a few hundred bucks a month ($200-$300) and was told that wasn't good enough, if i wasn't going to pay half at once they didn't care.
    So i have let it sit there and kept contacting back to see if i could set up a payment plan.
    I just got a letter from a Convergent Solutions the other day saying they are handling the collections on the account on behalf of verizon, and they have offered me a settlement for 60% of the debt. However, when i googled them, there are a lot of blog posts and things about them being a scam, and people who have paid them but still been contacted by verizon for the balance they owe. There are also over 200 disputes that had to go through BBB to be resolved.
    I have contacted Verizons Customer service and gotten no response
    So my questions are:
    1. Is convergent really working on behalf of verizon, and if i pay off the settlement with them, my account will be rectified?
    2. Convergent says they do NOT report any accounts to credit agencies. However they cannot promise that Verizon will not report it as negative, even though it's been paid. (Potentially negative as "Delinquent: Paid/Closed") Honestly, if it's still going to show up as a negative on my credit, i'm less motivated to fork over my whole tax refund to pay it off....so i would only want to pay it off with an agreement from Verizon/Convergent that it will not be reported to the credit agencies.
    Anyone have any advice/suggestions? The settlement offer expires on 1/31 so i'm on a short timetable, lol.
    Thank in advance for all your help!

    Hello lookn_glas_shrd,
    I think the majority of us have been in the position you're in, and I would like to help you with your situation. The amount of information I am able to see depends on how long it has been since the service was disconnected. I would have to access your account information. I assure you that I am an employee of Verizon Wireless. Please send me a DM (Direct Message) with your name and your mobile number, as well as the zip code of your billing address. If I cannot view the necessary information, I can assist by pointing you in the right direction. Once I see the account, I will be able to gather the necessary data and provide you with 100% information. More importantly, you will be provided with peace of mind in knowing exactly what's going on and how we can resolve this together.
    I look forward to hearing from you!

  • HMP-82 Headset with C510 - does this really work?

    Hi all,
    my old earphones are broken so i did some research for some good, new headset for my c510. Then i came up for the HMP-82 which shall have a good and loud music quality and which is very attractive for me due to the fact that it has a remote control. i did some research in some blogs und forums and found several people who had the issue, that their c510 first recognise the HPM-82 when they plug it in but just a few seconds after listening to music with it, they complain that the headset icon on the top of display disappears and the mobile phone asks whether the music shall be continued with mobile phone loud speakers.
    now im a little bit confused if this headset really works with a c510, especially also because on some websites the c510 is not listed as a supported mobile phone. Can anyone confirm if it is working without problems with a c510 or not and if not, are there other loud and good headsets with a remote control? Otherwise i considered buying a HPM-77 if there is no possibility for a remote control on a c510. The HPM-77 should work on my phone am i right?
    Thank you for taking time to read my thread and sorry for my bad English.
    Regards from Germany.

    Unfortunately as I do not see this listed as a compatible device I would say that this is likely the cause of the problem. In regards to a suitable headset you may want to take a look at the one below:

  • Can you set an image at run time?  Does it really work?

    I have read that others have been able to set an image at run time, but I cannot seem to get it to work (the image I set does not load).
    What I do is have a page, call it page2, that has two image components on it. In the constructor for page2 I do this:
    // Additional user provided initialization code
    image1.setValue("bike1.JPG");
    image2.setValue("bike2.JPG");
    The jpg files are in the build directory:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Darrin\My Documents\Creator\Projects\ImageTest\build\images
    The odd thing is that for the first image component(image1), I set a default jpg file (nogo.JPG that is in the same directory as the other two), and that does load.
    In fact, when I I check the value of image1 in afterRenderResponse by calling image1.getValue() it still has the default image (nogo.JPG) instead of the one I set it to (bike1.JPG) in the constructor by calling image1.setValue("bike1.JPG");
    So, either the image1.setValue() has no effect, or something is overwriting it.
    What is the trick to getting an image to load at run time like this?
    THANKS!

    Well after several more hours of banging myh ead against the wall, I still cannot get this to work.<br><br>
    I read in the constructor comments that whatever is in the jsp file will override the backing bean's constructor, so that might be part of the problem, but others I thought got this to work using a similar method.<br><br>
    Here is what I tried last which still does not work, but mimics what others have said did work for them:<br><br>
    //See if the default jpg file can even be copied over
    <br> image3.setHeight(image1.getHeight());
    <br> image3.setUrl(image1.getUrl());
    <br> image3.setValue(image1.getValue());
    <br>
    <br> Integer aiw = new Integer("1");
    <br> float aar = 0;
    <br> float ar = 0;
    <br>
    <br> ImageIcon ii = new ImageIcon("C:/Documents and Settings/Darrin/My Documents/Creator/Projects/ImageTest/build/images/bike1.JPG");
    <br> ar = (float)ii.getIconHeight()/(float)ii.getIconWidth();
    <br> aiw = new Integer(ii.getIconHeight());
    <br> aar = ar*aiw.intValue();
    <br> image1.setHeight(""+(int)aar);
    <br> image1.setUrl("images/bike1.JPG");
    <br> image2.setValue("C:/Documents and Settings/Darrin/My Documents/Creator/Projects/ImageTest/build/images\\bike2.JPG");
    <br> image2.setUrl("C:/Documents and Settings/Darrin/My Documents/Creator/Projects/ImageTest/build/images\\bike2.JPG");
    <br><br>Note that when I run this and look at the log that I write out to in afterRenderRepsponse, it shows that image1 (which shows up as the default image I set at design time) and image3 (which does not show up which I set at run time using image1's value) both show the nogo.JPG image from the <b>resource</b> directory while image2 (that I set at run time to be bike2.JPG) is showing up as <b>empty</b>
    <br><br>
    This is really getting frustrating, and I would greatly appreciate a small tutorial from the JSC staff on just how you need to go about doing this. given that this is so common a need, a tutorial is warranted. Heck, just clue me in on how it is done and I will write one!
    <br><br>
    THANKS!

    Hello everybody,
    did anybody of you design a process with a message split that works?
    If I look the SAPs tutorial "checkSeatFlightAvailability" an test the message-split in IR I CAN'T see that there is a message really splittet into MESSAGE1, MESSAGE2 ..MESSAGE-N!

  • Iphone4 Water damage..Does rice really work and for how long?

    I dropped my iphone in a jaccuzi, and it shockingly worked after but thirty minutes later it stopped on me.
    Its been in rice for one whole day now, Ill keep it in there for longer, but if it doesnt turn back on what can i do?
    I dont have insurance............

    It worked immediately after for thirty minutes?
    It's fried.  It's not the water that does the damage, it's the short circuiting that the water causes, which *might* be avoided by immediately powering down the phone and not switching it on again until enough time has been allowed for the thing to dry out, usually several days.
    I don't even allow my phone to share a tabletop with a coffee.  A jaccuzi?

  • Does Restore Really Work?

    I have a newer iPod 80Gb Classic, and was trying to erase my iPod Photo prior to sending it to our son for his use.
    I didn't see any way to simply erase the device, so I thought I'd perform a Restore with it prior to sending it.
    The Restore seemed to work fine in iTunes...and the last thing it said was to plug the iPod into a power source, disconnected from my computer. So...that's what I did.
    After a full night, I still see the graphic on the iPod Photo that, I guess, is asking me to plug it into a power source. I checked the AC adaptor with my iPod Classic, and it IS providing power.
    When I try a reset on the Photo, I get the Apple logo...it spins up...then shuts itself off right away. The same graphic as before appears again.
    Is my iPod Photo fried now? It doesn't seem to be getting a charge from the AC adaptor.
    Any suggestions?

    Wow....40 views and no takers on this one? Must be an odd problem that I had.
    Took the iPod Photo to the Apple Store today, and their Genius had it fixed inside of two minutes. He hooked it up to his Mac with split Firewire/USB cable, reset the iPod while connected, and it came right back to life. Fully charged. The Genius said he really couldn't explain it, other than sometimes this model needs a "kick start" provided by the Firewire connection.
    Anyway...it's working fine now.

  • Does ePrint Really Work?

    I've been trying this for days. Most of the time I get a message that says I'm not authorized to print. I have multiple emails listed and none of them work reliably. I've tried setting things to allow anyone to print but that doesn't work either. After two days of trying, one thing printed and another is pending (it's been pending for two days) right under the message on the website that says printer connected and ready. I bought this printer because of this capability. Is there some secret to making it work.

    Hi jrjmpls; I hope you are doing well;
    It does work.
    Base on your comment I will believe that your printer does support this feature if you share the complete printer model I will try my best to assist you can you also share the OS (Operating system that you are using) as well as if you are receiving any errors.

  • Time Machine and File Vault - How does it REALLY work?

    Good afternoon,
    I ran some tests and I can't figure out exactly how Time Machine behaves with Filevault.. here's what I did:
    I ran a backup manually. It backed up about 265megabytes. This was right after iTunes downloaded an update for my iPhone. This is weird, because that is stored in Library/iTunes/iPhone Software updates, which is in my FileVault user data.
    I ran a second backup right after. It backed up 726Kb. Sounds like not much has changed.
    Then, I copied a folder (mp3 album) from my NAS to a folder called Time Machine Test in my home folder.. 91megabytes of files.
    I started a backup. Sure enough, it backed up about 91megabytes.
    After the backup completed, I mounted the Sparsebundle file, and my files were there. I could copy them back properly.
    Can someone explain to me exactly what TM can backup while logged in, and what gets backed up only when I log off?
    It seems to me like actual files are being backed up, while the complete encrypted sparsebundle is backed up at logoff only. But if that's the case, why isn't there an option to restore individual files other than by mountaing the TM volume manually?
    Thanks

    infrid wrote: We shouldn't accept this as a price we pay for using other operating system features. Gepeto is quite right : it's unnacceptable, and Apple should sort it out.
    Hmm. I guess it depends on whether you want your Time Machine backups to be encrypted or not.
    If you use a whole disk encryption solution like PGP, Time Machine works fine when logged-in but all your data is backed-up as though encryption were not present, because one you have booted, the encryption is invisible to applications including Time Machine.
    If you enable FileVault, and remove your Home Directory from the exclusions, TM will back up the files in the same way when you're logged in but they will be unencrypted on the backup drive.
    With FileVault enabled and Home Directory excluded, it is not the FILES that are being backed up, but the encrypted VOLUME which is essentially one big file containing all the individual files in your Home Directory. It's similar to a TrueCrypt encrypted volume in this sense. It needs to be backed up unmounted which is why it only happens when you log off.
    The only thing Apple could do would be to create an encrypted volume for the TM backup and synchronize that with your FileVault volume. Not quote the same thing as Time Machine though.

    up. Then I tried a simple 2 page file from PM 7.0. Same results
    after 15 minutes. Then I drag-n-dropped a 2 page PDF into
    FlashPaper. 15 minutes later I gave up again. I seen one topic
    where the suggested having it on the correct port. Mine is on the
    FlashPaper2Port. How do I get this thing to work? What timeframe
    should I expect?

    This is what my colleague found. Is this true? Please send me an email whether this is true or not.
    Thanks!

    There is one cursor created for each addBatch() call. If a prepared statement is used to insert two rows into a table, two cursors are created. Insert 20 rows, 20 cursors are created. That's bizarre, because if a cached prepared statement is used again, the statement's substitution variables probably won't match the values held by the cached cursors. Which means more cursors are created ....
    The sql text from the open cursors looks like:
    SELECT FcstVariablePos, Value FROM fe_pdm_theta_default WHER
    SELECT FcstVariablePos, Value FROM fe_pdm_theta_default WHER
    UPDATE fe_exm_transformation SET Value=:1 WHERE InstanceKey=
    UPDATE fe_exm_transformation SET Value=:1 WHERE InstanceKey=
    UPDATE fe_exm_hier_lvl_params SET Delta=5.0 WHERE InstanceKe
    UPDATE fe_exm_hier_lvl_params SET Delta=0.0 WHERE InstanceKe
    No wonder we reach the max_cursors limit so quickly.
    I wonder, if I do 100 addBatch() calls, do I get 100 cursors? With cached prepared statements, I think the answer is yes. So I guess you can't use addBatch() with cached prepared statements.

  • IWeb - does it REALLY work. Here's my deal...

    I used a site builder at Network solutions / printadvisor.com is my domain. Nothing really fancy - just art / pics / links... my SMALL BUS card site. Anyways... the page doesn't view correctly. Their template problem... they don't intend to fix it. So I have to do something as I refuse to pay them another dime.
    I been messing around in iweb '08... and I could rebuild my site using it to look half decent ( I know how to get around in pretty well with the interface etc.)
    MY QUESTIONS - is it really wysiwyg. Really? No code writing needed, AND will view properly across browsers?
    I'll need some ftp storage for clients to upload graphics files / and printers to retrieve.
    And email forwarding to an address to get my mail.
    I have a guy willing to build me a site possibly using a wordpress template. I'm also bidding out to designers to build me a site. All of this will likely cost way more than I'd like to budget right now... plus I'd like to have the ability to add / or make changes once it's built.
    iWeb looks pretty cool now that I've been poking around... and should get a .mac account so my kids could do stuff... BUT IS IT REALLY USEABLE / APPROPRIATE FOR A BUS SITE (low traffic)
    Any comments appreciated.
    Thank you,
    David Stamm

    David ~ Since you're building a business site, you may want to consider SEO (Search Engine Optimization) before using iWeb: +"iWeb websites are not made to be search engine friendly"+ — read more here:
    _SEO For iWeb: How to get your iWeb Websites into Google & Other Major Search Engines_
    ...iWeb is designed for personal sites and, as such, Apple apparently thinks there's no need for Google — you tell granny the URL of your personal site, she painstakingly types it in and then gazes admiringly at the photos of her grandchildren.
    Apple hasn't changed this approach in three iterations of iWeb but perhaps, with all the feedback it receives on this issue, there's still hope. Meanwhile, web-design apps for business sites tend to integrate search engine optimization — Sandvox Pro is an example:

  • Does setStmtCacheSize really work?

    Has anyone gotten the setStmtCacheSize() to work with Oracle JDBC 9.0.1 type IV driver? I keep on getting java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01000: maximum open cursors exceeded. The bizarre thing is it's throwing this exception when I call createStatement(). Here's the stack trace.
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01000: maximum open cursors exceeded
    at oracle.jdbc.dbaccess.DBError.throwSqlException(DBError.java:180)
    at oracle.jdbc.ttc7.TTIoer.processError(TTIoer.java:208)
    at oracle.jdbc.ttc7.Oopen.receive(Oopen.java:118)
    at oracle.jdbc.ttc7.TTC7Protocol.open(TTC7Protocol.java:472)

    at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection.privateCreateStatement(OracleConnection.java:593)
    at oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection.createStatement(OracleConnection.java:513)
    I wouldn't expect this to happen on a createStatement.

  • Does Parallels Really Work?

    I'm at my wits end.
    Bought Parallels at the Apple store yesterday and could not get it to install from the disk. After a lot of frustration, went to the Parallels download site and started with the latest build.
    Parallels installation completed, cannot get Windows to install - even though I have installed it with Boot Camp from the same disk (trying to get away from the necessary restart to use Windows).
    The installation begins, goes almost to completion (runs for about 30 minutes), then suddenly I get a black screen with a quick error message and 'setup' begins again. It's a vicious circle! I know this is a good disk as it installed fine with Boot Camp so am I missing some file in Parallels?
    Anyone else had this problem??
    I visited the Parallels forum but it does not appear to be well moderated and thought a quicker response might be found here ... getting a little sick now with the thought that you can't get a refund on open software!

    Is is possibly just booting from the install CD again? Try removing it.

    I encourage you to try again with the Parallels forum. It is very well moderated. Unlike these forums, which are user-to-user support, there are Parallels employees who will answer your questions.
    When you purchased Parallels did it come with any installation support? You can download Parallels and try it out before purchasing.
    Also, you may need to uninstall Parallels (using the provided uninstaller) and re-install.
