Does Streaming Delete Synched Items?

When I first set up my ATV, I experimented with synching and streaming. As I recall changing back and forth would erase synched items, but maybe I am wrong. Now that I have synched a large number of photos, I would not want to erase what I have already done by changing to streaming mode for music and video.
Does anyone know whether you have to choose one or the other? Can you switch to streaming without affecting the synched items? Can you stream video and synch photos without switching from one mode to the other?
I am very happy with my ATV, especially after I bought an Airport Extreme-n. My main interest is using it as a way to display my digital photos on the TV in the living room so I don't have to have everyone gather around the computer in the back room. This is especially good for club meetings where I can display photos of recent events for members to enjoy before and after the business meeting.

McLee,
Switching to a streaming mode shouldn't remove the synced content on the Apple TV. You can then stream video and audio from the computer, then switch sources back to the Apple TV to view the synced photo content. Streaming can be performed on a synced library though, so it sounds like you may be looking to selectively sync just photos and then stream your audio/video. Knowledge base article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305098 may provide you additional information.

Chris

  • Deleting a contact list item through Powershell in sharepoint 2010 synced with outlook 2010, does not delete the item from outlook.

    hi All,
    I have a requirement for updating the contact list from CSV file and updating/ adding and  deleting the changes in the SharePoint list using PowerShell script. List is also synced with outlook.
    The problem arises, when we delete an item from the list using PS, the item (which was earlier synced with outlook) is not getting deleted from outlook.
    Strange behavior : when we perform the same deletion operation manually from the SharePoint UI, every thing works fine as required.
    Please refer the below PS
    #Adding the records from SharePoint not in CSV file
    if($flag -ne 1)
    Get-Member -InputObject $csvRow -MemberType NoteProperty | ForEach-Object {
    $property = $_.Name
    $newItem.set_Item($property, $csvRow.$property)
    $newItem.Update()
    #Deleting the records from SharePoint not in CSV file
    CreatePSLog "Deleting the records from SharePoint not in CSV file"
    foreach($itm in $List.items)
    $del = 0
    $items | ForEach-Object {
    if($itm["SAP Ansprechpartnernr"] -eq $_."SAP Ansprechpartnernr")
    $del++;
    if(!$del)
    $List.GetItemById($itm.Id).Delete()
    $List.Update();
    $Web.Update();
    many thanks in advance, Please suggest as I am completly stuck on this :(
    Regards, Arun kumar

    Hi Kumar,
    Please remove the codeline $List.Update();, then run your code again, it works for me.
    You may need to firstly delete the synced contacts list within Outlook to remove those undeleted accounts, then re-connect the SharePoint contacts list to outlook, then run your modified Powershell code.

  • Does Apple delete purchased items from our devices?

    A song which I purchased last December has been removed from my MacBook Pro without my instigation or permission. When I tried to download it again I now must buy the entire album, which I don't want.  I suspect this deletion was done by Apple. I'm glad I still have the song on my iPhone, iPad and iPod, where it had been synched. What is Apple's policy about removing items which have been purchased from a user's library? I am very hesitant to make any future buys.
    MacBook Pro always has the latest system (currently 10.9.4)
    iPhone IOS 7.1.2
    iPod IOS 1.1.3
    iPad IOS 7.1.2
    The song was purchased on 12/9/13.

    Where are you looking ? My account's purchase history (Store > View Account menu option) shows all of my purchases. If you mean in the Purchased link for redownloading then have you changed countries since buying the items ?

  • How do I delete  one item at a time from trash?

    How does one delete one item at a time from trash?

    In general, one doesn't.
    I suggest you create a new folder (I use "Trash Soon") on the desktop near the trash icon. Move all the stuff out of the Trash bin into the Trash Soon Folder. Then move the things you really want to eliminate to the Trash can. Empty Trash.
    DO NOT store anything you want to keep in the real Trash can. There are many activities that may cause "Empty Trash" a a side-effect.
    If you have multiple drives, The Trash is an illusion created for your convenience. The actual Items may be on several different drives, but all marked as "in Trash". Moving them to a folder on a different drive may cause unexpected copying.

  • How do you switch to streaming without deleting synched photos in AppleTV?

    I have synced my photos onto my AppleTV and use them as my screen saver. I'd like to keep these photos on my Apple TV and also use the stream function to listen to my music playlists and movies. When I switch the option to streaming everything is deleted from my Apple TV, including the photos that I use as the screensaver. How do you switch to streaming without deleting synched photos in the Apple TV?

    Firstly, the ctrl-click option says turn of syncing not turn on streaming, but I'm not at all sure this is really what you want to do.
    In itunes, select the tv from the device list, then in the main part of the iTunes window select the summary tab and ensure you have custom sync enabled and that 'show only synced items' is unchecked.
    Click sync from the bottom RH corner, your tv should now see all the content in itunes provided it is checked. See This.
    Now you can work your way through all the tabs in the main window and select/deselect any content you want/don't want to sync.

    My new iPhone 5 email is synched with my home office computer Outlook email using a POP account, but deleting an email on my computer does not delete the email on my phone and vice versa.  Is there any way to get a true synch?.

    POP does not support synchronization between the server and clients. You will need to use IMAP or Exchange Active Sync if your email provider supports it.

    This is how I solved it, thanks to combined information posted on forums:
    1. Got a new external hard drive formatted for Mac (I was using read-only Windows from my PC)
    2. Created a folder in new external drive >imported to LR->send to trash- empty trash
    3. The above was still not working until I noticed one day magically the missing picture icon started to show up in LR
    4. I went to the "set as rejected"pictures> locate missing pic (and nearby ones)
    5. Selected the pics -photo>remove> delete from disk
    Done!!!
    Thanks to the hours spent on searching different threads, and to the relentless users because LR never provided any kind of support or formal response to solve this by just letting users to getting lost in frustration .

  • If i delete a photo in my iphoto library that I added to a photo stream, does it delete it from the photo stream?

    If i delete a photo in my iphoto library that I added to a photo stream, does it delete it from the photo stream?

    i can't tell if my question is the same, or slightly different, but this thread seems closest to my question so i will ask it here so as to not duplicate:
    on my iphone 6 i have icloud photos beta on. in iphoto on my computer, i have photostream on, but auto import off. so, the only thing i have for photo stream photos is "icloud" under the shared heading.
    when i delete a photo from the icloud section in photo, it does not delete it from the photos beta app in beta.icloud.com. if i had auto import turned on, i would think this would be normal functioning with respect to the actual events that get imported, but since i have it turned off and am working with photostream itself i would have thought it would delete from the photos app on the website when i delete it from the stream in iphoto.
    similarly, deleting a photo from the photos app on the icloud website does not delete it from the iphoto photostream if i had already opened iphoto and thus the album had already been updated (though if i delete the photo from the beta website before opening iphoto, it won't show up in iphoto since it was deleted from photostream before iphoto updated from photostream).
    so, as it stands - my iphoto only sort of syncs with photostream. is everyone experiencing this? i'll be honest - i still don't get the new icloud drive and photos, so maybe the issue i am having is exactly what the photos app for osx is intended to correct when it comes out next year. or am i just wrong in how i think the syncing is supposed to function?

  • Does iWeb delete items that are deleted locally?

    If I delete a page or an item on a page in iWeb then publish my site, does iWeb delete the page or item off my iDisk in the web folder?
    Just wondering because my used space in the iDisk is greater than the size of my web site locally and can't quite figure out why

    No. It doesn't. You have to do this manually thorugh iDisk.

  • Ical synch: how can i stop deleting ical items and synch the rest?

    When synching on itunes, it asks to delete 9000+ items from ical, add and modify are 50 or so each, and I'm very confused why this is happening.
    How can i stop this and synch the rest? I do not want to delete anything but it doesn't seem to have option other than synch later.
    I have icloud calendars synch on as well...
    Thanks!!

    Bruno,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Are you using any sync software?
    The easiest thing to try is to refresh the the com.apple.iCal.plist file. You will find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Quit iCal, drag the com.apple.iCal.plist file to your Desktop, log out/in or restart, and make sure the deletion preference is not checked.

  • Outlook 2010 autoarchive does not delete items from server

    I have read similar Qs & As, but I don't think they apply to my circumstances.
    I use Outlook 2010 with Windows 7 32 bit for a GMAIL IMAP account.
    My email pst file is 7GB in size and I think this is affecting performance. I'd like to auto-archive all emails more than 15 months old to a separate pst file, and to do this every 14 days. I've set up
    1) file/clean-up/archive all folders according to their auto-archive settings/OK
    2) Options/advanced/auto-archive
    run every 14 days
    delete expired items
    archive or delete old items
    move old items to c:\... my archive folder.
    The auto-archive fires up automatically at the right time (I've been testing using a 1 day interval), but despite all this, it still doesn't delete emails from the IMAP (Gmail) folders, and I have emails going back to 2010.
    How do I get this to work please? I don't want my IMAP folder to increase in size for ever - is there a practical limit?
    Simon Brew

    What are your gmail settings? Gmail will archive messages that Outlook deletes from the server unless you change the setting and tell gmail to delete them. (It's under Forwarding and POP on the settings page at gmail.com.)
    You can configure gmail to only provide the most recent 1,000, 2000, 5,000 or 10,000 messages - leaving the older messages archived in the gmail mailbox.
    Do you have the Gmail \ All Mail folder subscribed? That duplicates all of your mail - unsubscribe it to reduce the file size.

  • How to keep synced library on Apple TV but delete synced items from iTunes

    I use a Macbook Pro and space is limited, so does anyone know of a clean way to break the sync connection without deleting the existing synced content on Apple TV? I'd like to move items over, and then delete from my iTunes library to save space. I will also later want to add new items to be streamed, but without causing any past synching to be lost.
    Can this be done by simply unchecking the "look for Apple TV" box in iTunes? If so, how can I then stream new content from the same Macbook Pro without causing past synced content to be lost? Since the syncing is quite slow over wireless network, I want to maintain commonly watched items on the apple TV but still ave the ability to stream a new item, from the same macbook pro if possible.

    Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Thanks for the information. Just to be sure I'm clear: after I synch the one library (which I'll keep on an external hard drive where I have more space), is it OK to keep it around and make future changes that I want synced (and then just connect that library for synching whenever I want to change what is synched)? When I change back to my on-board library (on the Macbook pro), will that library not be synched automatically? Must I do anything on the Apple TV or in iTunes, other than start up with the different library, to ensure that my previously synched changes are not superceded?
    Are you effectively saying that the synching of Apple TV is specific to a single iTunes library, even if different libraries are successively used in iTunes on the same machine? The manual has basically no information on how to preserve things synced, once synced, unless you're using the simplest model of wanting your iTunes library to be actively mirrored on the Apple TV. It is very painful to see things inadvertently deleted from Apple TV, given ow slowly things move over wireless g networks...

  • Hacker problems so I reloaded Snow Leopard. Afterwards, Mac had to delete 798 items. Now looping on 4 items to delete for the past 2 weeks. Can't reboot, reload, or restart. I have to let the battery run down for it to turn off. How to fix this, please?

    I had hacker problems so I reloaded Snow Leopard. Afterwards, Mac had to delete 798 items. Now it is looping on 4 items to delete for the past 2 weeks. I can't reboot, reload, or restart. I have to let the battery run down for it to turn off. I think a big part of the problem is that someon one the internet (the hacker) was mirroring my hard drive. It seems to have locked up my system. I could be wrong about this guess, though. All I do know is that it is now looping on the last 4 iems, and I can't do anything.
    Well, I can get it to turn on, but all it does is continously try to delete the last 4 items. When I try to reload Snow Leopard, it tells me my hard drive is full and that I need to delete items.
    Can anyone help? I am so lost without my Mac. I am back on the PC, and though it works, I'm sure many of you will understand when I say it's just not a Mac.
    Thanks.

    I installed Snow Leopard using my Apple external Superdrive. I followed directions I found on the Apple site. Here is the article info:  Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard: How to Erase and Install
                     Article HT3910
                     located at: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3910
    Everything was going smoothly until I got to the reinstall part. I had to choose to reinstall on a hard drive or network drive. I've never used a network drive; just the hard drive. It seems that's where the troubles began. I selected the hard drive. It seemed to go well, and then I got the message that I needed to delete some files because I was out of space. I chose to get rid of my music files, but, there were only 636. I don't know what the rest of the files were. I was using the Secure Empty Trash command.
    That was my first time doing an erase and install. I tried to do it again, but I now get a continuous error telling me that my hard drive is full and I must delete files. Only I can't delete files because 4 files are still being deleted and my computer won't let me stop the process.
    I found out about the hackers mostly by the fact that whenever I used to watch something like Hulu or Netflix, I never had problems with internet connection or speed. Lately, I had internet connection problems. I went in to check my settings for my internet provider and found out the settings had been changed to public and all these extra computers were connected to my network.
