Does Strobe support HTML5 playback?

Hi. Does Strobe provide a way to do HTML5 video playback using the video tag or does it require the Flash plugin? We're looking for a way to support browsers and devices that need Flash and also HTML5 video. Thanks.

Hi ac361,
As Bob Wohl pointed out, Strobe Media Playback runs in Flash Player, and is built on Adobe's OSMF.
For an HTML5 based video player, a good option for you might be OVP (Open Video Player).  OVP was part of the inspiration for OSMF, so OVP and OSMF have similarities.  However, a significant point of difference is that OVP is not Flash only.
The OVP project was recently extended to now have an HTML5 implementation.  The OVP HTML5 landing page here:

• 'Page Info' doesn't support HTML5 'meta charset' tag?

Admittedly this isn't a catastrophic problem, but it seems that the Firefox 'Page Info - General' dialog does not support HTML5's '<meta charset="UTF-8">' tag - the dialog displays an empty line in my Firefox 21.0 browser.
If the meta charset tag is changed to the pre-HTML5 version of '<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> the Page Info dialog displays the 'Content-type' information.
Other posts I've seen suggest that Firefox's HTML5 support has been frozen except for new HTML5 standards that may be added as they are finalised.
Does that mean that this omission is going to be left unfixed?

Looks as though someone started working on this in 2010, but interest (?) petered out?

• Qosmio F60 - Display enviroment doesn't support protected playback

Qosmio F60
When I tried to watch a blue ray disc through a phillips plasma 50PF9960/69 TV, the tv and computer displayed the following message "Your display enviroment does not support protected playback content". Phillips has responded stating that the TV is HDCP compliant. I can watch a DVD on the TV through the same optical drive. Is there problem with watching Blue ray discs on a Qosmio F60 into the TV?
The blue ray disc displays on the computer without any issues when it is disconnected from the TV.
Can any one help please ?

Hi
I read in some forums about this error message.
Mostly this message appears if the one of the devices does not support the HDCP.
It seems somehow the HDCP key has been lost between the 2 devices (monitor and notebook).
At the other hand the CD/DVD drive could be set to another country region.
Usually if you would like to play DVDs created for other region then this error code could appears too.

• Does Vista support natively h264 GPU accelerated decodign?

Hi.
I read that Firefox will support html5 h264 decoding, but not natively.
Does Vista support natively h264 GPU accelerated decoding? or have I in the future to give up this upcoming new feature of FF? thanks

your link does redirect to
http://www.mozilla.org/us/firefox/fx/?from=getfirefox
and FF11 does not support html5 h264 video yet...
it is strange that it is difficult in establishing if Vista (released 2007) is able or not in handling h264.

• Does the Iphone 3G support music playback via a bluetooth headset?

Hi All,
Does the Iphine 3g support music playback via a bluetooth headset at all, I suspect not...

It's been on many a user's requested feature list since the first iPhone, and people were disappointed when it didn't show up on the 3G. The adaptor he links to will get the job done.
I have to admit I've demoed a couple of bluetooth stereo headsets, and the music sounded awful. Perhaps it's improved, but for this reason it's not a feature I've personally wished was included.

• Does Firefox portable (4.0.1) fully support HTML5?

Hello,
I want to create a firefox-based program. For a good look this would require HTML5. Does the newest Version of Firefox support HTML5? To what extent? Is there any good information resource for this?
Thanks!
Markus

Yes, Firefox supports HTML5. See this article for more details: [http://www.h-online.com/open/features/What-s-new-in-Firefox-4-0-1212755.html?page=2 What's new in Firefox 4.0]

• Does the new nano support gapless playback?

I listen to A LOT of trance/progressive stuff (Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Paul Oakenfold, John O'Callaghan etc). Usually these albums are mixed, requiring gapless playback. Does the new nano support this?? VERY important to me that it does, otherwise would have to skip buying one and stick to my iPod 5G & iPod touch. I do like the new wearable design though...

Gapless playback and crossfade playback are 2 different things - buy a mix album and try playing it using crossfade playback - I'll let you figure out the difference (yes, really!).
Anyway, I've bought 2 (silver and red) and yes, they do support gapless playback.

• Does JMF Support multilingual absolute paths for video playback?

Hi everyone,
I hope I can find some answer here.
Does JMF supports multilingual paths for videos? E.g. I have a video located by the following URL:
G:\video\Stürmische\video.mp4
When I try to open this video by JMF, I get the following Exception: Problem playing video+
javax.media.NoPlayerException: Cannot find a Player for :file:/G:/video/Stürmische/video.mp4_
When I use the same video.mp4 file with path containing only simple latin letters, it's played normally.
Is there any problem with JMF regarding to multilingual paths?
Many thanks,
Armine

I assume that it's a JMF cons. and IMHO, multilingual support for video paths/names should be added in it.Several things...
1) JMF is designed to play both local files and RTP/RTSP file sources. As such, it uses URLs as resource locators. It makes perfect sense to make that design decision.
2) URL encoding only allows alphanumeric characters and a handful of special characters. Considering the internet was invented by the United States army and our keyboards don't have those symbols, it makes perfect sense to make that design decision.
3) Most importantly, JMF hasn't been updated since 2002 and development has been completely discontinued... so "multilingual support" won't ever be added to it.
And it isn't multilingual support you're asking for, it's support for non-ASCII characters.
It is my understanding that you can take a path like:
G:\video\Stürmische\video.mp4
Run it through some encoding procedure, and come out with a usable URL like:
G:%5Cvideo%5CSt%FCrmische%5Cvideo.mp4
Which I got by using the encoder on the following website:
http://www.blooberry.com/indexdot/html/topics/urlencoding.htm
Coincidentally, had you done the research that I suggested you do, you might have learned that Java already has something built in to handle encoding non-compliant URLs for you.
http://download.oracle.com/javase/1.5.0/docs/api/java/net/URLEncoder.html
So, I'd expect you could use the URLEncoder class to implement suggestion #3 from my previous post.

• How to fix YouTube HTML5 playback?

All I want is to have 1080p available for YouTube with HTML5. The only way to achieve this I know of is enabling MSE (media source extensions). Enabling the required option [1] leads to stalled playback of videos. They don't play. Sometimes they do buffer. They may play for few seconds. Once they stall, it's done.
Additional info:
It seems that when HTML5 playback ceases to work, Firefox will also refuse to close its process upon closing.
Image PID Hard Faults/sec Commit (KB) Working Set (KB) Shareable (KB) Private (KB)
firefox.exe 1112 0 974 740 927 388 67 800 859 588
What I have already tried?
confirming I'm actually on HTML5 player
Restarting without addons.
Clearing all history, cache, cookies etc.
enabling all 3 options below
[1] media.mediasource.enabled
[2] media.mediasource.mp4.enabled

• HT1338 I am trying to download adobe flash player on to my ipad2 i keep getting this massege that safari does not support this ?

Hi
anyone there
I want to down load adobe flash player to my I pad but  a massage show up saying Safari does not support this ?
Anyone there?

No Flash for iPads, iPhones, or iPods
Here's why there's is no Flash available for iDevices or other mobile devices. Adobe was unable to provide a product that was suitable to the needs of battery powered mobile devices used for Internet browsing. Existing Flash technology used too much memory, ate battery life, and was buggy. Simply put Flash did not work well on mobile devices.
Apple's Steve Jobs led the escape from Flash dependency when Apple introduced the iPhone, and later introduced the iPad. There was a hue and cry over the omission. Time proved Jobs was right on target.
So this is why there is no Flash for your iPhone or iPad or iPod nor for most SmartPhones. Flash has been abandoned by many sites in favor of supported technologies such as HTML5 or by providing their own custom app.
Here is Steve Jobs official comment on his momentous decision to omit Flash from iDevices: Steve Jobs on Flash.
Here is Adobe's later announcement to cease development of Flash for mobile devices: Adobe on Mobile Flash.
Now, you are not necessarily out on a limb. There are some apps that can display some Flash, but don't count on there ability to display anything using Flash.
Apps that can display some Flash from the Web:
Puffin
SkyFire
Photon Flash
Browse2Go
iSwifter
Also, note that many sites that use Flash provide their own app for accessing their material. So check with your favorite sites and find out if "there's an app for that."

• Keynote does not support exporting with embedded Quicktime Movies

I hope this helps a few of you out before you run into this problem.
Keynote does not support export to Quicktime with any slides that contain a quicktime movie.
Created a 27 page slide show with transitions, music, narrations and 6 Quicktime movies (Actually LiveType Text scrolls)
When I attempted to export it never finishes the export cutting it short after about 20 pages.
And the pages with the movies, don't start playing.
It exports fine as a quicktime movie without the movies inserted though.
Spoke with Apple Support and they confirmed that quicktime placed files within Keynote playback is only supported from the native Keynote Application.
I read somewhere on this board that it was an issue with Quicktime version 7.5, not so as I tried the same test on a mac with Quicktime 7.42 and it had the same issue.
So, beware.
LJS

Maybe I didn't understand well what you said but it is possible to export a Keynote file with embedded Quicktime movies to a quicktime movie. Actually, I'm doing it and I works. BUT, the issue I get is that I can't get my embedded videos to loop. Grrr...

• MS 2.1 'Does not support importing files containing tempo changes' message

OK, so I've just loaded up the 2.1 upgrade and opened up a couple of existing concerts, and I get the following message:
+File contains tempo changes+
+One or more of the files you are importing contains tempo change markers. This version of mainstage does not support importing files with tempo changes.+
It's a bit of a problem as the dialogue box appears several times during loading, and I have to click 'OK' every time, which adds to the length of time it takes to load up the concert (something I do several times during the course of my set).
I'm not using any MIDI stuff, just acoustic and electric guitar plus vocal channel strips and playback channels.
I've tried out some of my backing tracks, which have a ralletando at the back end, and they still seem to slow down properly (which isn't surprising, as they are audio files), and I've also tried setting all the sets back to the concert tempo, which hasn't stopped the issue occurring.
Any thoughts, anyone?

Hi Blueberry
Well, if you mean I put a tempo curve at the end of some of my audio files in Logic, in order to slow down at the end of the song, then, yes, I did do that. However, that still works in MS2.1, and anyway, why would that no longer be allowed, as that is an essential musical function. Also, if the upgrade meant I had to re-do the exporting nearly 200 backing tracks, them I'm afraid it would be back to 2.01 for me.
Furthermore, I tried starting MS up in 32 bit, and that didn't make any difference either.
As it is, this problem is (so far) only an inconvenience as it takes longer for me to load a new concert. What I'd like to understand is what does it refer to? and how can I prevent it showing this message?
Thanks

• Does firefox support database storage in javascript

in html5 i can store data in sql lite
like this
openDatabase("database name");
does firefox support this functionality?

I'm not seeing any evidence that device-width is a supported value for the width property, so it is likely that that is the cause of the error message.
