Does subscribing to iCloud itunes disable iPod classic syncing?

My ipod classic stopped being recognized by itunes and my laptop after I paid the $25 bucks and my library was matched to the Cloud.  Did this disable my iPod Classic at the same time?  I didn't see a warning about this possible consequence.  If true, can it be reversed?

If you mean the "iTunes Match" service, no.  That is, just subscribing and having it match or upload your iTunes music library into iCloud does not disable anything that previously synced with your local iTunes library on your Mac.
However, if you set up iTunes Match, put your music library into iCloud to make it available from your other computers and iOS devices, and then manually deleted all of your song files stored locally on your computer's drive, then yes.  iPods (that are not iPod touch) cannot sync with your songs in your iTunes library, unless the song files are store locally on the computer's drive.
If this is the case. you can "reverse" it by downloading the songs that you put on your iPod from iCloud.

My oldest iPod is an ancient 30 GB Classic, and it syncs fine with the newest iTunes (12.0.1).

  • HT1384 My Ipod Classic syncs and charges, but stops charging once it's done syncing.

I just got a new laptop with Windows 8 and downloaded the new itunes on it.  My Ipod classic syncs fully and while syncing charges the battery, but when the syncing ends so does the charging of the battery.  Is there a setting I need to fix in Itunes?

  • IPod Touch vs iPod Classic Syncing.  Simple question,  Any answers?

I have an iMac G4 running Leopard and a new Mac Mini Intel running Snow Leopard. Here is my connection issues:
    1) My iPod classic syncs to both computers.
    2) My iPod Touch (running OS 4.0) syncs to my iMac but not the Mac Mini.
    Why?
There has to be a simple solution, but I haven't seen one. I've tried all of the solutions posted here for the Touch, but none work.

Your mini needs to be running iTunes 9 to start. The touch syncs via a piece of software called Apple Mobile Device Services, the classic does not use this.
These two tech articles will help you solve the problems you are having with AMDS on your mini:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747
and if you need to remove and reinstall iTunes http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224
If you are connecting through a USB hub, try connecting directly to the mini until you get this sorted out. If you are going to use a hub, it needs to be powered.

I have an Ipod classic sync'd to a PC. The PC is no longer working. I purchased a new MacBook pro. How can I sync the Ipod to the new Macbook pro

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time. It will recognize the iTunes library on the Mac as a new library. If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library. So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your Mac first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • Can't Install iTunes for iPod Classic over iTunes for iPod Touch - iPod Classic not regconized

I have an iPod Classic (80GB) in my car and wanted to buy an additional iPod for use in the house. The salesman assured me that the iPod Nano Touchscreen would be backward compatible with the hardware I have, but it wasn't, so the store manager kindly agreed to me swapping the unit for a brand new iPod Classic 160 GB (at the extra cost, of course).
I can remember that when I connected the iPod Touch the first time, it asked me whether I should install something, which I did. All my music was subsequently transferred to the iPod Touch. It was only when I tried it then that I discovered that it is not 100% backward compatible with my hardware.
Now that I have purchased the new 160 GB Classic, iTunes simply won't synchronize. I downloaded the latest iTunes and installed it - no change. I saw that you could make it work by checking 'Enable Disk Use' from the Summary tab. However, my iTunes does not have a 'Summary' tab, and when I checked further on Google, I found a statement on Apple Support that 'disk usage' is not supported on the iPod Touch.
I then ran 'Device sync tests' under 'Diagnostics' from the Help tab - it came up with the reply 'No iPod touch, iPhone or iPad found'. In other words, iTunes still thinks that the connected device is an iPod Touch and not an iPod Classic, despite me having installed iTunes several times.
Is there a version of iTunes that I can dowload that would recognize the iPod Classic? How can I resolve this problem? I want the same music on both of my iPods.

Please igonore - stupidity on my side - problem was resolved with a call to the ever-so-friendly Apple Technical Support helpline!

  • ITunes 9, iPod Classic, iBook G4 - Issue!

Okay, I'm in desperate need of help.
I have an iBook G4, an iPod Classic, and had iTunes 9.
The iPod was formatted for my PC but I restored it so that I could have it on my Mac. So my issue is this: the iPod shows up on my desktop, and when I plug the iPod in, iTunes automatically opens, but the iPod does NOT show up in iTunes no matter what!
I considered going back to an older version of iTunes (iTunes 8) but I'm thinking I was told I need to use AppCleaner to get rid of all the newer iTunes crap, because when I tried without it, iTunes 8 said it could not open because the music was done with a newer version of iTunes.
So my PC is about to crash (which is the only way I download music to the iPod now) and I really need to fix this problem. Does anyone have a suggestion or encountered this problem and were able to fix it? I'm at my wits end.
    Thanks!!

I used AppCleaner to delete iTunes and reinstalled iTunes 8.2 and now the iPod only appears on the desktop for a moment and iTunes says "An iPod has been detected but cannot be identified properly." Unplugging and replugging back in does not work. I then tried clicking update iTunes (to the newest version) just because I'm willing to try anything at this point and I'm back to desktop recognizing iPod but not iTunes.
Please can someone help, I am frustrated beyond belief.

  • ITunes kicking iPod classic out during syncing

Okay -- this is kind of weird, but I thought I'd give it a shot on this board. When I connect my iPod Classic to iTunes it automatically syncs, but then instead of saying it's okay to disconnect it "kicks" the iPod out of iTunes and the Apple logo shows up on the iPod. Then after a few seconds, it will automatically reconnect and then go through the syncing process again. At that point, it will let me eject it.
Is this a problem if this keeps happening? I can live with it, even though it's kind of annoying. Does anyone know why this would happen? I just upgraded by iPod software and wondered it it's a bug in either iTunes or the new iPod software. Will it damage my iPod to have this keep happening?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

I am still having the problem. I have noticed a pattern to the seemingly random freezes.
The iPod is stopping to Sync at almost predictable points during the sync. The first stoppage occurs around the 1.9GB part of the sync. This has not always been the same file but it is always around the same place.
When I sync in small chunks the freeze occurs at almost the same place every time. As soon as it freezes, iTunes is toast and the entire computer needs to be restarted.
Anyways, the freeze happens around every 2GB's of data transferred. It does not have to be in one chunk, it is almost like it is happening on the iPod. Like the iPod is kicking itself out of the sync at certain points along it's hard drive or something. Once it freezes and I restart the computer, I can transfer another 2 GB before it freezes again... then restart, repeat. Finally I was able to load up the 14.8 GB I had in my iTunes. Several hours later... not sure if I should take the iPod back or not. If it is the iPod and that fixes the problem great... but if it is my machine, I get another 3-4 hours syncing and restarting my computer. Wheeee!

  • ITunes and iPod Classic remembering track locations?

    Hello,
I recently had to redo my computer again......Anyways, I just got iTunes reinstalled and reimported my library from my backup drive. I just got all the track names redone again and erased and resynced (for the 5th time) my entire iPod.
Now, Whenever I listen to a song on the iPod or iTunes and I switch the track wether 5 seconds or 30 seconds (or whatever) into the song, it will switch, but when I switch back to that same track it will start playing from the point it left off...not the beginning like it used to. I have checked the settings in iTunes and on my iPod, and reset my iPod and ran diagnostics. Nothing.
Why is my music being remembered? It makes it annoying to go to a song and have to restart it. I was going to format my entire iPod then restore the software, but I saw iTunes was doing the same thing so I know its not my iPod.
I have the Dell Optiplex GX260 running Windows XP Media Center 2005, iTunes 9.0.1.8 and an iPod Classic 80GB running software 1.1.2 PC. If it is relevant, The player in my car is a Pioneer DEH-P5800MP connected to a CD-IB200. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

    I THINK I FOUND A SOLUTION!
While browsing through the iPod Classic thread, I found a topic similar to this. The solution is right there.
Go to Music and select ALL of your songs (windows is CTRL+A). Right click when they are all selected and click Get Info. Go to the options tab, check the box that says "Remember Position" and be sure the dropdown says "No". Click ok, and it will update all the songs on your library.
After I tested it with iTunes, I resynced and it solved it on the iPod as well. Thank you all!

  • How do I manually move a playlist from new iTunes to ipod classic?

My iTunes just updated itself. Now the screen looks totally different. I want to manually move a playlist from the new iTunes to my iPod classic. It worked perfectly yesterday, but now that that the iTunes updated, the page doesn't show my iPod so I can't manually move the playlist to the iPod.

    Hi Carol,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're running into an issue syncing music to your iPod classic since updating iTunes because of the way it looks now. You can make iTunes look more like the previous version by showing the Sidebar, as described in the article below.
iTunes 11 for Windows: Customize the iTunes window
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12364
    Choose View > Show Sidebar.
The Sidebar replaces the Library menu, the Devices button, and the iTunes Store button. To return to the default view, choose View > Hide Sidebar.
And, this article provides a detailed walkthrough for syncing content to your iPod.

    I hope this helps.
