Does Superdrive stop seeing already burned Sony DVD-RW's?

I use .mac's Backup program with Sony DVD-RW's. Out of a box of ten, I've had 3 that Backup initially "sees", but then when it tries to burn, the burn fails.
After that, I can't get Disk Utility or Finder to "see" the DVD-RW. Note, the DVD-RW's in question were successfully burned at least once before this occurs.
Is there anyway to restore or erase the DVD-RW's so that Finder/Disk Utility and/or .mac Backup can use them?
Or do I have an extraordinarily bad box of discs?

No doubt you shouldn't be having this problem.
But never rule out the DVD media you are using.
Sorry to say there is a huge difference in quality and compatiblity.
I would try something like Maxell 16X DVD-R media
I always read the back of the Jewel cases and make sure they will burn 1X through 16X this way it will burn on just about anything out there. There quality is top notch and you can buy them in a 3 pack for under $4.00
See if that helps. Cheers Don

  • Does Adobe Premier Elements 8 burn AVCHD DVDs in HDusing a standard burner?  Does it need a bluray?

Does Adobe Premier Elements 8 burn AVCHD DVDs in HD using a standard burner or do you need to have a bluray burner?  I have read comments stating you can't burn HD video straight to DVD.   I need to check this out before I purchase it.
    Thanks

Do not hesitate to ask. Adobe has always been a very good host, and allows for pretty open discussions on editing videos, regardless of what one is using.
Now, I have to admit that I have not seen Pinnacle Studio since the S-10 days. I had S-7, S-8, S-9 and S-10. S-9.4.3 was about the only one, that I really liked, but felt that it was a bit too much of a "big-button" solution, as were its predecessors and S-10. I moved to AVID Liquid, and did not like it. I found PrPro, and the rest, as they say, was history. I added PrE 4 to handle some consumer formats & CODEC's, that PrPro did not do well with.
I have done some Projects in PrE, mainly to keep me atop the questions in this forum.
I find that PrE, as of version 4, is more like Pinnacle, in that things are kept pretty much under the hood, and the big-button solutions abound. I am still much less comfortable with PrE, than with PrPro, though I did spend a bunch of time on Pinnacle Studio. Things just work better for me. I have to admit that I am a "control freak," and do not mind doing hand-work, if I can harness the full power.
I have not seen the more recent Pinnacle products, so cannot comment on them. Going back, my versions (except for 9.4.3) were very crash-prone, and seldom could complete a Project, without at least one catastrophic failure along the way. I learned early on to always hit Ctrl+S (Save), after almost everything I did. My PrE 4 has only crashed once, and that was OE on my part. Now, I do have a much more powerful laptop, than the computers that I used with most versions of Pinnacle, so it's probably not a really fair comparison. The Projects now, are much more involved, than in the Pinnacle days.
Doesn't directly address your question, and I'm not sure that many folk here have spent enough time with both NLE programs, to help. I would suggest that you post your question in the Muvipix Community (forum), as many users there have different programs, and experience in a bunch. While many use Adobe products, many others use different NLE programs. Maybe some know PrE and Studio (later editions, that what I know/knew) and can answer your question directly.
After Studio 10.5.1 update killed (and I really mean "killed") a brand new workstation, I swore that no version of Studio would ever find its way inside my edit suite. That was when I went to AVID, but soon dumped that. Though I had used many Adobe products for decades, I have no idea why I did not go to Premiere Pro earlier. My bad.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - I also feel that most salespeople lick their lips, when they sell an AVCHD camera, as they know that the customer WILL be back for a much more powerful computer.

  • Whirring Noises while Burning Sony DVD

    Hi Everyone;
I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem - I'd like to determine if it's a hardware (Matisha DVD-R UJ-846) or media problem. On occasions, when I go to burn a DVD, the drive makes a very loud, deep, whirring noise - like it's spinning up, then down, then up (and so-on). This is with toast 6, btw. If I leave it going, it returns an error (I'm not sure what the error is right now - I now cancel it because anything that makes that sort of noise can't be good...)
This is with Sony DVD-R media burnt at 4x (disk allows up to 8x, but have read elsewhere that the Superdrives don't like 8x media) but would this be enough to cause that sort of noise? Or does it require a trip to Apple?
The main problem is that it isn't consistent - I've successfully burnt some, and not others, but am reluctant to keep it running should it cause some internal damage...
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Trouble burning Sony dvd-r discs

I am not able to burn video to Sony brand DVD-r discs and I am able to burn to memorex discs of same type, if I slow down the burn rate from 8x to 3x.  Any way I can use the Sony Discs?  Thanks.

Hi! Sense You have not posted your model number found on the bottom of your laptop; there's no way for us to know what OS you have or any thing else. How many different Sony DVD's have you tried to burn video?? If you have W7, there are trouble shooting features in the Action Center, which can be accessed from search.

  • IT DOES NOT LEAVE ME TO BURN THE DVD WITH SUBTITLES

    Hello ... my problem is:
I have 3 different subtitles, in English, French and Portuguese, but to the moment to burn the dvd a mistake happens: "Language codes for 'English' and 'English-2' must differ
Since I can do to solve it. Thank you

hmmm, thought I posted an response to this a while ago. Anyway, that was on the iphone.
    But here now...
it sounds like you have two subtitle tracks marked as English. There are small codes to the left of each subtitle track. Simply make sure that they are all different: EN English, ES Espanole, PT Portuguese.

  • Why does Finder not see files on formatted DVD-RW?

I recently did a drag and drop of more than 90 text and pdf files onto a formatted DVD-RW.  The DVD now shows up as a blank disc.  I swear that I managed to add a couple of files and see them in Finder at least twice.  How do I get back into the files?  Disc was formatted for RW using Disc Utility which still sees the 1.7 GB of data on the disc in Info.  What happened?

    Thanks Lex:
I don't think Invisible will help.  Because I left the DVD-RW open after dragging and dropping files onto it there is no lead-out and the optical drive sees it only as a blank disc.  Somehow I got back into the disk before but since the last OS update 10.8.4 I am unable to get the disc to mount.  Seems I remember Bonjour finding and opening it once.  Nothing since.  Right now I'm leaning toward recreating the archive disc and then closing it as a data disc so I can mount it.  I recall doing this open RW in years past so I could continually add other files until the disc was full.  Protocols must have changed.  Bob Mehaffey

  • What codec does iDVD 09 use to burn the DVD?

    Hello All,
I might be looking in the wrong place, but I couldn't find this information. Does it use MPEG2? Can I use H.264?
    thanks,
    Mike

DVDs use 720x480 mpeg2, with AC3 audio or PCM audio up to 24bit/96khz. They also accept halfD1 mpeg2 and mpeg1, although that is not used much at all these days. Every DVD you are probably familiar with uses 720x480 mpeg2.
H.264 is not part of the DVD spec; it is used in Blu-ray, as are VC1 and mpeg2 in high-def resolutions.
Also, it doesn't matter what format you feed iDVD; it will transcode to mpeg2. Just be sure to use a good editing format that won't degrade quality. H.264 is a bad choice; the transcoding to mpeg2 will introduce problems.

  • HT5630 how do I burn a dvd using usb superdrive to mac or itunes?

How do I burn my dvds onto either my Macbook air or onto itunes using external USB superdrive please??

"Burn my DVD" refers to the process of taking data FROM the Macbook and copying them TO the DVD, not potentially the other way around, as you have asked the question.
Are you wanting to copy (rip) movies from a DVD and place them into iTunes?
                        -or-
Are you wanting to copy (burn) a movie from a digital copy on your computer to the DVD?
The way you have asked the question makes no sense.

  • Error 50 when DVD backing up using SONY DVD RW DW-Q30A

When trying to burn a DVD to act as a backup, Itunes begins the process, then reports it cannot burn the disc due to an unknown error - the only consistent one seems to be Error 50. Somewhere in the discussion threads there was an article correcting this problem for a different drive, but I am unable to find it again. No new drivers for BIOS etc - always automatically updated
    Thus 2 questions.
    1. Does itunes have a problem with Sony DVD RW drives, and if so how do I sort it out?
    2. If no-one can solve Q1, can they point me in the direction of the article mentioned above?

  • Does format of blank disk matter for DVD machines?

I need to make an audition DVD. I will use iDVD. I have no idea what equipment will be used to evaluate the audition. Does it matter if I burn on DVD-R or DVD+R media? Can run-of-the mill DVD machines bought at WalMart read disks burned with either format?
    Thank you.

    Hi
    Brand is also of importance.
    I only use Verbatim
Speed is also a main problem maker.
I set burn speed down to x1 with very few problematic DVDs
Free space on internal boot hard disk - never under 25Gb free space.

  • Superdrive stopped burning DVD no longer recognized by computer

I am using an i Book G4. I have been consistently burning DVD's on the superdrive for several days. Today in iDVD it said there was no superdrive on the computer. I can however play DVD's on the drive. Is this a soft ware or hard ware problem? I don't know what else to check. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

I assume what you were asking was what program I was using to burn the DVD. I was using iDVD and that is the program that first told me my machine did not have a burner. I use the disk image to actually burn the DVD. I have found it much more stable than trying to burn from iDVD no matter which of the 3 Mac computers I use. Thanks for you input. I was hoping there was a way to see if there was a software corruption causing the burn DVD to disconnect. I appreciate your interest.

Try cleaning the lens and see if that will restore functionality to the DVD drive.  Use a DVD lens cleaning disk, if you have a can of compressed air, shoot some into the slot or wrap a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth)  around a business card and insert it gently inside the slot.
If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and get a free diagnosis from them.

  • Burning DVD in Lion Problems. Keep getting REGION ERRORS in SONY DVD PLAYER @ playback. Settings correct. Leopard burns fine with all media. Lion does not with TOAST. DVDSTYLER burns a readable disk.

I have tried several types of media in a brand new (less than 2 months old) 27" iMac running the latest version of Lion. It will not burn a standalone DVD player readable disk. I am in North America and buring in NTSC format. Settings are set properly. Buring at BEST speed - states its burning at 3x. I have tested SONY printable DVD's +R and Verbatim non printable -R disks in Lion with Roxio Toast 8 & 10. No luck. DVDSTYLER burns a readable disk, but not realy happy about the look and functionality.
I am getting REGION LIMITATION errors in the SONY and other stand alone DVD Players.
Disk plays in XBox 360 and laptop PC also.
I am set to region 1.
AS I stated, DVDSTYLER does burn a readable disk, the problem seems to be with TOAST and LION ?
My old 21" iMac running Leopard 10.5.8 has no problems with burning. Any media, Toast 8, disks perform just fine.
    Any suggestions ?
My only solution is to do the editing of movies I need to do on the 27" and transfer them to the 21" for burning.
    lame
Or use the sub par DVDSTYLER program.
    acceptable but disappointing.
    ideas ?

SONY DVD player is brand spankin new.
    Have not tried Imation disks.
Its just puzzling that Leopard and Toast 8 produces a DVD where as Lion and Toast 8 produces a coaster.
I tried not printiable Verbatims. Same result.
Need printables for the projects that I do.
    Appreciate the suggetsions.
Will be methodically dilligent and post any results here.
any help from any others would be appreciated.
