Does Sync keep a history of over-written files?

Hi,
Does the mobility sync function keep a history of over-written files somewhere? Does it copy them to a trash-like place that can be recovered? or does it just over-write the older file? I have a problem where my Entourage database file did not load properly on the client machine, became corrupted, and has over-written the server version of the database.
Thanks,
Dave

There is no backup, just a sync.
As for entourage. The whole database thing is a joke.
If you have a database that is 1GB
and get 1 new email.
The system sees that the 1.1GB file is brand new and overwrites the old.

Safari does not keep my history so I have to re enter websites that I visit often but are not bookmarked.  What can I do?

Do you have private browsing turned on? Settings>Safari>Private Browsing>On. If so, turn it off.

  • My safari does not keep my history despite all the settings and adjustment i made to the safari preferences so as to be able to keep my browsing history. the browsing history is wiped out whenever i close safari.

i use macbook pro mid 2012, OS X mavericks. my safari does not keep my history desp[ite all the adjustments made to the settings at safari preferences. my browsing history are cleared whenever i exit safari. i dont know why. i want to try and re - in stall it . the safari is version 7.0.1. but i dont know how.

If you're having trouble making changes to files that are inside your home folder (represented by a house icon in the sidebar of a Finder window), or if you can't get changes to the settings of an application to stick, then please see below.
    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Does SAP keep change history for program variants?

    Hi,
Does anybody know whether SAP keep change history for program variants, like it does for PO, Material etc?
If so, how could I get this information? If not, does it mean there is no way we could find the changes made to the variant?
    Thanks
    steven

    Hello Steven,
I see that this is your first post to the forums here and I would like to welcome to SDN and BPX. I hope you will find these communities very helpful for learning and sharing information about SAP Products and Technologies.
Regarding your question, I think the best place to find the answer would be the ABAP Development.
However, being an experienced ABAP developer myself, I do not think program variants have change history. And yes, there is no way to retrieve the old values of the variants .
    Regards.

  • Does macbook keep a history of wifi connections

I was wanting to check when I last used a particular wifi connection. Does the Macbook pro log this information?

If you're running 10.6, I'm pretty sure any such log files get rolled over when either the weekly or monthly automatic maintenanace scripts execute.
If you saved the password to your Keychain, Keychain Access (Applicaitons > Utilities) may have recorded the password and saved the date.

  • I have 64bit firefox and it does not keep browsing history?

Every time I click out of my browser, and if click back on it resets everything on my homepage, and all the history is gone.

You should check settings -Options>Privacy>check your History and Cookie settings. Make sure "Clear history when Firefox closes" isn't checked. Changes on your Home Page might require further investigation.
I doubt if you have Firefox 64bit which hasn't been publicly released for Windows yet(only Mac and Linux). Win 64 runs perfectly with Fx32 - we aren't missing anything at this stage. (I'm writing this bit for other readers, too).

  • Why does it keep asking me to overwrite the files over and over

So i copy and paste a dir
it says they dir already exists overwrite?
    yes!!!!!
then it looks like it is copying the files then it asks again
do you want to overwrite 4324 file?
    YES I ALREADY SAID YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS A SERVER NOT A WORKSTATION!
SO I SELECTED A BUNCH OF DIRECTORIES TO COPY AND CLICKED OK SEVERAL TIMES AND WENT HOME FOR THE WEEKEND
I CAME BACK ON MONDAY AND IT WAS ASKING ME IF i WANTED TO COPY THE FILES AGAIN
    THIS IS A JOKE

To avoid that I would recommend deleting the folder first the copying won't be an issue or deleting all the files in the directory. I know this is an extra step but just like the warning on plastic bags someone somewhere did something they shouldn't have
    Sorry, I have been there.
So generally it will ask you if you want to do this for X number of files
IT SHOULD ASK ONCE AND ONLY ONCE
I SAY YES AND GO AWAY AND I HAVE TO COME BACK AND HIT YES AGAIN

  • Why does Itunes keep losing the location of music files?

Itunes will lose the location of the music files. they clearly listed under the right album and proper order but when you select a song a exclamation mark shows up and a window pops up asking me where it can be located. I don't know, Itunes lost it, I haven't done any maintenance work to the hard drive that I know of other than clean the registry on my firefox search engine.

The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, one of its parent folders, or the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place. In the case of a library moved from one system to another there are also potential permissions issues. See Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to Get Info, then click No when asked to try to locate the track. (Due to a bug in iTunes 12 you currently have to say No twice!) Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, a folder renamed, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions. If the difference between the two paths is an additional Music folder in one path then this is a layout issue. I can explain further if that is the case.
In some cases iTunes may be able to repair itself if you go through the same steps with Get Info but this time click Locate and browse to the lost track. It may then offer to attempt to automatically fix other broken links.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.
i may be able to give some more focused advice once there is a clearer picture of where things are.

DOES FIREFOX KEEP A RECORD OF DOWNLOADS, AND VISITED SITES FROM ITS USERS.

Firefox does not keep a history after you clear yours. I understand what you mean. Firefox does not send your browsing history to Mozilla. However Firefox has components from Google, like Anti-phishing. Due to these Google components, Google Privacy Policy must be followed.

Have made some slide show libraries on publisher then saved as jpg however when I sync through itunes to my ipad the previous import is over written. Can anyone offer a solution. Thanks

I have tried much of the same - still no joy.
I also reported it as a bug to Apple although the response page said "we can't reply to messages"
For now I have had to turn off auto syncing and keep plugging and unplugging until the device is recognised correctly - about 1 in 10.
In my email to apple I also listed the contents of the xml file that keeps track of the devices that iTunes has seen:
    When seen as an ipad:
    <dict>
    <key>Connected</key>
    <date>2010-06-08T21:33:57Z</date>
    <key>Device Class</key>
    <string>iPad</string>
    <key>Family ID</key>
    <integer>10006</integer>
    <key>Firmware Version</key>
    <integer>256</integer>
    <key>Firmware Version String</key>
    <string>3.2</string>
    <key>ID</key>
    <string>8F98884620E0F9FF</string>
    <key>Serial Number</key>
    <string>V5020116Z39</string>
    <key>Updater Family ID</key>
    <integer>10006</integer>
    <key>Use Count</key>
    <integer>21</integer>
    </dict>
    When seen as an iPhone:
    <dict>
    <key>Connected</key>
    <date>2010-06-08T21:39:07Z</date>
    <key>Device Class</key>
    <string>iPhone</string>
    <key>Family ID</key>
    <integer>10006</integer>
    <key>Firmware Version</key>

    <key>Updater Family ID</key>
    <integer>10006</integer>
    <key>Use Count</key>
    <integer>22</integer>

You will see from the Use Count that these are adjacent connections, ie plugged in as ipad then as iphone. Apart from the device class, everything else is the same.

Did you already try to reset the sync history?
If you find that some of your data syncs to your device but you see an unexpected number of changes or modifications, you may need to reset your sync history. This causes iTunes to prompt to Merge or Replace information on the device when you next attempt to sync your information. To reset your Sync History:
    Open iTunes.
From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
    Click the Devices tab.
Click the Reset Sync History button.

  • Iphone 4 Sync - Windows PC - Why does it keep removing what is on my phone rather than copying what is on my phone onto ITUNES?

I have had my iphone for about two years now, i cannot for the life of me understand why every time i sync to itunes that it keeps wiping off what is on my phone.
What i mean by this, i may have added a new phone contact or downlaoded a new game and placed on a specific page.  but when i sync it removes these and just copies back onto my phone whatever i last synce.
Why the heck does it keep doing this.  i remmeber in the first year i had this, but there was a solution; something i had to tick within itunes.  I DONT KNOW WHAT IT WAS.
Hope someone can help me.  i have purposly not sync my phone since last year because of it.
    HELP

    Thanks Turingtest2,
I appreciate your response. I have done all of the things mentioned, but still when I click on "devices", the "transfer music" option is still not selectable. I see it, but can't select it.  I am running Windows 7 on my PC.
However, one thing I read makes me take pause. At one point I did erase my computer back to factory settings using the mirrored image. We backed up all information and put the important stuff back on, but I don't believe we did anything with iTunes, so it's a possibility that the music that is in my library now, may only be music I have purchased since then. But, (thinking out loud) that was a while ago and I am pretty sure I have purchased more music than what is in my iTunes library, since then.  Maybe I will approach it from that angle and see what happens.
It just doesn't make any logical sense that syncing goes from computer to device. Ostensibly then, my iPhone would only have the music that is on my computer after syncing and that is not the case. I still have all my music on my phone. I can see the new music that's on my phone get added to my iTunes library when I connect, which would make one think that syncing occurs both ways. I don't know. It's maddening. Maybe I should just follow my husbands advice and go to an Android. LOL. Or maybe I will take my laptop and phone to the Apple store and make them figure it out. Ha.
If you have any thoughts about this, let me know. Thanks again.
