Does syncing using the music tab a 2 way street between device and computer?

So i went through my music and added ratings to it on my comjputer.  i synced my ipod with auto sync and everything transfered over fine.  then i accidently added a folder to my itunes library i didnt want and rather then sift through the library and remove the songs added from that folder (since it wasnt my music) i decided to erase the entire library and just re add the folder withonly my music.  i thought the ratings would still be there, but they wre all gone.  all that work.  even my playlists were gone.  i mean, they were still there, but no music was in them.  even after i re added the same music that once was once there, the playlist didnt auto populate themselves.  lets just say i messed everything up, and since my ipod was on auto sync, i knew the next time i plugged it in it would erae all the ratings and playlists.  so i used a program called iexplorer and it let me copy all my music back to itunes and i got most of my ratings back (not the playlist though because my computer crashed while the playlists were being populated and totally forgot about itunes and auto sync, so when i opened ituens, my ipod started syncing and basically it synced the new un orginized library with no playlist and most of the star ratings.  For some reason not all the songs had the ratings, but most did. so i cant complain cuz i at least got lucky.  ok, now onto the question.  i dont want to go through my library again and re do everything, so im going to do it slowly through the ipod while im in transit.  my question is, when i update  playlist and rate music on the ipod, wheni plug it into ituens, will the ratings and playlist i made on the ipod transfer over?  i know this was quite the long post for such a simple question, but i just wanted to share my bumble headed story of how i nuked my library.

The sync is one way -  computer to ipod.

    Hi,
    You have 2 solutions:
1 - You can use 2 differents icloud account
2 - You use the same account but you don't sync yours contacts.
You configure that in  Settings > icloud
You activate or desactivate what you want.
    Have a nice day.

Note that sharing a folder between different OS that use different file paths is not recommended as some files can have an absolute path or other OS specific data.
You can click the Choose Folder button if you want to create or use a folder in a different location.<br />
Make sure to select an empty folder (you need to create this folder in advance) and not a folder that already has files as Firefox will use the specified location in this case.

You can also create a new profile via the command line.

You can consider to use Sync to sync the two profiles

  • Used to use the Mac.  How different are menus between Mac and Windows?

I used to use the Mac.  How different are the PowerMac menus from those of Windows OS?

    Hello,
They're pretty different, after a short while the Mac will be easier, key is to not expect it to work like Windows... I use both.
I think these may answer some of your questions...

  • I use the "Bootcamp" on my Mac to work between Mac and Windows. How do I get my iTunes music from the Mac side of my hard drive to the Windows side?

I use my "Bootcamp" harddrive to work on both the Mac side and Windows7 side of my computer. How do I get my Itunes Library from the Mac side to the Windows side of my Mac Book Pro?

Time Capsule is for backing up your data. It's not really a solution for live file storage; using it will not reduce the bloat of your boot volume.
If you have a lot of movies, music, etc. in your iTunes Library, that can be a good thing to move to an external drive. Here's how:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1449
After you follow those instructions to copy your media over to the external drive and point iTunes to it, you can delete it from your internal drive.

  • My tab button doesn't work anymore and I use the "command  Tab" keyboard shortcut to change between open applications.  A LOT.

I have a wireless keyboard and the tab key stopped working today.  I don't know if I can work effectively without the tab key.  I use x.7.4
I don't have the money to purchase a new computer so I'm thinking a good workaround would be to use another key for TAB.  How can I do this?

If you have a Mac Mini, you just need a new keyboard.   Logitech, MacAlly, and Microsoft all make Mac compatible keyboards.
iOS is not running on your machine.   It is Mac OS X 10.7.4 you need to be selecting for your signature.

  • HT1351 I'm OK until "click music tab, select the option "Sync Music" which does NOT appear under the music tab!?

I recently upgraded my iPad from 4 to 6 iOS. I have a bunch of music on my PC, which I want on my iPad. My music on my PC is all in iTunes format, it recognizes my iPad, I click on the Music tab, and it gives me a list of genres--absolutely nothing about syncing. There is also no evidence of a "Summary" button anywhere. What am I doing wrong?

Cancel all of the above. I didn't realize I had to unhide the sidebar to get to the correct music tab. Why do they hide what you need, and let you guess how to make it appear. *slinks off in embarrassment.

  • Unable to sync my movies in the i tunes 11 library i try to add the mp4 video by using the add to library option but the movie does not sync while the music is syncing fine...

i am unable to sync my movies in the i tunes 11 library i try to add the mp4 video by using the add to library option but the movie does not sync while the music is syncing fine...

I had the same issue. What I did was save the movies on a thrid-party app like Download Manager Lite. Once downloaded, go back to itunes, go to your iDevice, go to apps and transfer the app, then scroll down and click on the app and from there you can send the movies to that app and WILL play. Can only hold up to 8 videos/movies (this is for iPod Touch 3G or better, iPhone 3s or better, iPad requires iOS 4.3 or better)
    YES THIS APP SUPPORTS .mp4
From other ipod (nano, classic): I don't remember.
If your just putting them on iTunes, it should show and play on iTunes no problem.

  • I am trying to sync a playlist to my Nano,  but when I click on the Music tab at the top, it will not allow me to select the option Selected Playlist, Artists, etc.  I cannot un-check the Entire Music library option and check the Selected Artist - on

I am trying to sync a playlist to my Nano,  but when I click on the Music tab at the top,
it will not allow me to select the option Selected Playlist, Artists, etc.  I cannot un-check the Entire Music library
option and check the Selected Artist … one.
I have changed the Sync option to Manually sync, but that does not help.
How can I change this to the second option?
    Thanks.

There is a checkbox above those two options for how to sync.  It says Sync Music; it enables automatic syncing.  That box needs to be checked before you can select from the two options for how automatic syncing is performed.
NOTE:  If the iPod is current set up to Manually manage music [and videos], checking that Sync Music box replaces its current content with content from your iTunes library, based on how automatic syncing is set up on that screen.
So, if your goal is to add ONE playlist to an iPod that is managed manually, you do not want to do this because iTunes will erase the iPod's current content and replace it with just that ONE selected playlist (and whatever else you select on that Music settings screen).
Instead, if the iPod currently uses the manual setting, you need to add playlists manually to the iPod (not use the automatic syncing setting).  Please post back with more details about your situation.

  • I cant sync my music. I have no check box to "sync music" just one that says "sync notes" in the music tab?

I have search on this and other forums regarding syncing my itunes music library with my 4s. I've tried all the usual, clicking on the iphone icon, clicking on the music tab etc, etc. but the window does not show a check box to sync music, just one that says sync voice memos!!! Plus a  sentance that says" itunes match is on" "music can be downloaded and listened to with from icloud blah blah" But not if you have no signal and just want to listen to the music ive bought and paid for!!!
Someone please help, just tell me that i have to do something simple and im a complete idiot.
I do have itunes match on but turning it off doesnt seem to make a dfferance. It only happened after i down loaded the ios7 on my phone.please dont tell me its that as i've had nothing but aggro since doing it.

Thank you leonie, that was so easy, just what i wanted. I feel so stupid, i've been trying to sort this on and off for a few weeks and eventually had to resort to actually asking for help. Thank you so much X

  • My 5s iphone has stopped syncing anything except Apps from i tunes on my Macbook Pro. Even if I select the Music tab it still only looks for Apps to sync

My 5S iphone has suddenly stopped syncing anything except Apps. I have selected the music tab in i tunes and asked for it to sync entire music library but all I get is a message looking for which Apps to sync and after a brief time it stops doing any syncing at all. Consequently a new playlist I added to i tunes on my computer has not migrated to the iphone. This has never been an issue before so I'm a bit lost to know what to do.

Under the Music tab is the "Sync Music" checkbox ticked? Beneath that have you defined what music you want to sync?

  • Playlists aren't showing under the music tab on my ipod when using Itunes.

So I bought a new Ipod Nano the other day and I wanted to create folders and playlists manually so I can organise things to the way I like them.
But every time I click 'new playlist/folder' it appears under the device tab instead of the music tab like it had done before.
I have my settings set to manual and I don't want to sync things over because when I do that, it wont let me organise playlists or folders.
So can someone tell me how I can fix this and what I am doing wron?. Or if this is just an annoying new feature of the new itunes?

I have this problem too. When i remove all my music, I am able to click on the music tab without a problem. This leads me to believe that iTunes isn't able to handle all my music? My laptop is fairly new, with an i7 processor and 8gb ram, so the computer is definitely not the problem. Any ideas? Were you able to fix it yet?

  • Music wont sync on my new iphone 4s. Restored it from a backup and now there's no music on it. In the music tab it says: Thomas iPhone has access to music on iCloud. Songs can be fetched via WIFI or a mobile network. What to do?

Restored it from a backup and now there's no music on it. In the music tab it iTunes says: Thomas iPhone has access to music on iCloud. Songs can be fetched via WIFI or a mobile network. The pnly thing I can chose to sync are voice memos.
    What can I do?

If you want all the songs from an artist on your phone you can to to the artist view, tap on the artist, scroll to the bottom of the list and you will see a Download All button.  This works for playlists and albums too (scroll to the bottom and tap the Download All button).  I suppose if you wanted all your music on your phone you could create a smart playlist in iTunes on your computer that would contain all your music, upload it to iTunes match (Store>Update iTunes Match), and then you would get a Download All button at the bottom of this playlist on your phone to download all your songs.

So I have found a common denominator to this phenomenon. After having the same problem, I started to recopy my playlist of 500+ songs in groups of 10-20, 30+, 75+, and then over a 100+. Any music I have purchased from iTunes won't copy, but everything else did. Unsure if I made a playlist called "Purchased" at some point or this is an iTunes default, I also noticed it had some of the songs contained in my other playlist and was showing on my iPhone. Regardless of what I did such as dragging music from that playlist to the other and clearing songs from that playlist, I removed it altogether from the iPhone itself vs. doing through iTunes. After that, music copied fine to my playlist.
So, my theory is that iTunes is getting tripped up on purchased tracks already showing on the phone and all songs are showing grayed out/dotted circle because iTunes can't resolve the conflict with purchased tracks.
Hope this makes sense and is helpful.
