Does the account use the itunes card first or is there a default?

I am trying to use the balance on the itunes card and it is telling me that it will use my credit card. How do I set it up to use the gift card first?

After establishing the Credit Card account (i.e. after you have made purchases), you can remove the credit card information by editing your payment info, choosing "None".
Settings>iTunes and App Stores>Apple ID>View Apple ID>Sign-in>Payment Information

It will be tied to the account that you've redeemed it onto. Have you tried resetting your account's password via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password' ?

What store are you trying to purchase in? If its a U.S. card - you have to use it in the U.S. store.
Go to Settings>General>International>Region Format>United States. Then go to Settings>Store>Tap your Apple ID. Tap View Apple ID. Enter your password. Go to country/region and make sure that you are in the U.S. store in there.

Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.

I had the same error when trying to update my apps on my ipod touch. I tried to input my security code numerous times to no avail. I also made sure my billing address was the same as what my bank had on file. To fix the issue I went into iTunes, logged onto the iTunes store, went to account settings and reviewed my recent purchases. Turned out that I had made a recent purchase and didn't have enough money left on my credit card to pay for it at the time. I paid off the credit card, and then input my security code once more and now it works fine. I've heard that some debit or pay as you go credit cards require a minimum balance, so make sure you have at least that amount in your account.
