Does the Aluminum Mid-2007 Intel-based iMac include a USB extension cable?

Hello everyone,
I live in Canada, and my Aluminum (Mid-2007) 20" iMac did not include a USB extension cable for the keyboard. I have read on the forums that other members' Aluminum iMacs did not come with it either. I also read someone from Japan who said his iMac came with the cable, but I am not sure if he had an Aluminum or White iMac. I know that the standalone new keyboards do come with the USB extension cable. I would like to know if your Aluminum (Mid-2007) iMacs came with this accessory. Please let me know if it did or did not. Thank you for your help, and I await your reply.

P.S. I bought my iMac the same day Leopard launched, and then I received it in the first half of November.

Hi Bob and mrtotes,
Thank you very much for your helpful replies. I apologize that I have been away for a couple of days--I have been very busy with final assignments, so I did not get to reply to you until now.
I do find the cable a little short after I slide my keyboard tray under, but all I have to do is turn Mighty Mouse around before then. Other than that, Mighty Mouse's built-in cable is long enough when I am interacting with my iMac.
It makes sense that only the Mac Pro would need the USB extension cable more than the portables and iMacs would. I don't know why I did not think of that before--I guess that's why we we're here when we're not sure! And of course the Mac Mini does not come with input devices unless you ask because the whole point of the Mac Mini is BYODKM (bring your own display, keyboard, and mouse).
Thanks again for your help with answering my questions--I really appreciate it.

  • Removing stand of 2007 Intel-based iMac

Is it possible to remove/replace the stand of the mid-2007 20" Intel-based iMac?
    Thanks in advance!

It would be great if someone could answer this before I have to tear open my 20" iMac...My stand is 1.5 inches too tall. I want to take the stand off, cut off 2 inches from the middle and weld it back together. If the entire bottom of the display wasn't vented I could just cut the stand and prop it like an easle, but that unfortunately will not work.

FCP 4.5 is not designed to run on the Intel Macs and is not supported.

I changed the hard drive in my mid 2007 Intel Imac.  I'm trying to re-install the the op system. I'm receiving a message stating that "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer." I am a "newbe" to Mac's.  Can someone help? Please be gentle.  I raeally am a novice. Thanks in advance

I believe these are the wrong system restore discs for your model iMac, assuming your are correct that you have mid 2007 iMac.
These gray colored type restore discs are Mac-machine specific and are the wrong ones for your iMac.
    They will not work.
The original OS X restore discs for your model iMac would either install OS X 10.4.11 Tiger or OS X 10.5 Leopard.
You have gray system restore discs for a later model iMac. These will not work with iMac year and model.
    Sorry.
You need to purchase a full retail version of OS X 10.6.3 Snow Leopard here instead.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
These discs will work with your year and model iMac.
Assuming that your hard drive was installed properly, these white retail OS X install discs should be able to boot, format and install OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to your 2007 iMac.
    Good Luck!

I have an Intel based iMac that has just developed two small spots on the screen - they look light brighter spots on the screen. One 1/8" circle at bottom right and a tiny circle at top right.  The fading on and off light on area surrounding the screen isn't working anymore either.  Has anyone else had similar problems?  Any solutions?  Thanks!

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • HT3669 HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Version 3.2.1 does not work on iMac 20-inch, Mid 2007. Only recognizes scanner not USB printer.

HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Version 3.2.1 does not work on iMac 20-inch, Mid 2007. Only recognizes scanner not USB printer.
I would like to print via the USB connection instead of wireless (the wireless does work, and the scanner works via USB).
I tried connecting the printer directly (via USB) to my MacBook Pro laptop and it worked just fine.
How can I make this printer work on my iMac?
I spent 4 hours on the phone with HP and we did every combination of installation of drivers ad nausum and their bottom line is that it is a Mac problem.
Any help would be appreciated. Will be sending this printer back to Amazon if I can't make it work on the USB.
I am open to questions or suggestions
    Thanks,
    Chet

After 4 hours on the phone with HP and another hour with Apple (Mavericks support) no real solution other than check everything (removed everything from Login Items, removed all HP software anywhere in the system reboot, reinstall printer) then when nothing worked for the 4500, did an OS Reinstall (boot with CMD+R).
The Mavericks support group did open an incident (# 542875311) and I will update it when I figure out how to find it on the system.
My feel is that the base problem is that somewhere between the HP-Inkjet-SW-OSX-Mavericks_v12.34.49-2 package and the Apple HP Printer software in the Library (version 2.16.1) the app for printing via the USP Port just does not get installed for the mid 2007 20 inch iMac. The scanner is recognized on the USB Port and the Printer works fine on Wi-Fi. I have too many devices to burden my home network with anothe device. Also, every time I put any HP Printer on Wi-Fi, my router (Netgear N600 WNDR3400 running 12 to 20 devices depending on who is home) gets wonky (but that's anothe story...).
Additionally, when I attach the HP Envy 4500 to my MacBook Pro (2010) it works perfect - print and scan via the USB prot and both functions show in the System Preferences - Printers and Scanners just as expected and just as the 3050 does.

IMO, wrong choice. Start over, using a FireWire cable and following the steps in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide.

  • "Which Firewire cable should I purchase to connect a late 2006 Intel-based iMac with a 400 port to a Mid 2010 IMac with an 800 port?"

“Which Firewire cable should I purchase to connect a late 2006 Intel-based iMac with a 400 port to a Mid 2010 IMac with an 800 port?”

To connect both iMacs, you need a FireWire 400 to 800 adapter, and a FireWire 400 cable, so you will be able to connect both Macs

  • How can I format my intell based imac without the original Tiger discs? I have a user account on it that I dont want. I have upgraded to Snow Leopard but I want to to star affresh. Thank you.

How can I format my intell based imac without the original Tiger discs? I have a user account on it that I dont want. I have upgraded to Snow Leopard but I want to to start affresh. Thank you. I have tried loading the Snow Leopard disc whilst holding down th C key but it goes straight into install mode. I am new to Macs and I have inherited this machine.

    Hello, many options...
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
       2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
       3. Click the Erase tab.
       4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
       5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
       6. Highlight the drive, select Partition Tab, then Format type... MacOS Extended Journalled, select the Security Options button, choose Zero Out Data, Erase... after completion do a new install.
    Or...
Open System Preferences>Accounts, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
In the same pref pane highlight your old account, click the little minus icon, then use Disk Utility to Secure Erase Free Space.

If you have AppleCare on it give them a call. If you have not bought AppleCare yet then I'd strongly suggest it to protect your investment. This will extend the warranty to 3 years and also  provide 3 years of telephone support. You can buy it from any Apple reseller or Apple for $169 or you can find it discounted at  places like Amazon.

  • Does intel based imac come with adobe flash player?

I am a new imac user. I have just purchased an intel based imac with Safari. Every time I try to watch videos on the internet or watch live tv it's telling me I need adobe flash player but then I read all these things telling me about the danger of downloading it.

Download it from the actual Adobe site, then you will be fine. Just type in safari http://www.adobe.com/ and follow the link to 'Flash Player'

  • Convert an iMac G5 PPC to Intel Based iMac early 2006?

I have been working with Macs for some time and I know how annoying their hardware will only work for one series of computers and that's it. I was given an iMac G5 2004 for free and when looking to replace the motherboard I realized that it only uses DDR memory, terrible. I know they have 17" Intel based iMac G4 computers and figured with an iMac there are few parts you need to worry about. I would need to change out the LCD screen or connector and rewire it, I have hard drives that will work, I will need an Intel Core Duo processor (can pick a working one up real cheap), Motherboard will cost me $100, and I assume the DVD/CD drive is universal and will work with the Intel board. Now my concern is the power supply and the LCD inverter. That is pretty much all there is to these machines.
Now why don't I just buy a 2006 iMac? Because where is the challenge in that? Has anyone ever attempted this conversion? Money is not a problem, I enjoy moding and having little projects like this. I have a flat screen eMac with an LED LCD screen, I have a G4 with Mac Mini guts, I have a Gen 1 Apple TV running 10.5... you get the idea. I am tearing the machine apart now I just need to find the proper information, Google has failed me. I assume the 2006 MOBO should be a direct fit because the form factor is almost identical. USB and other slots look to be the same, if not I can bust out the plastic fill and Dremel. Anyone have any thoughts besides that this is a dumb idea?
If I go ahead with this I plan on doing a write-up. In theory, these seems like a very simple conversion just because everything is based around the MOBO and the parts that would need to be replaced I have or are inexpensive. I figure the project would cost me around $300. I run a tech shop and get parts dirt cheap. Any ideas or information would be great as I typically don't work on 2004 models, thanks!
Please no flaming, if you intend to flame just go bother someone else thanks!

You also have to consider to port locations, and if the ventilation is enough for the logicboard.
Furthermore a Mac mini uses a SATA bus that is more geared towards powering 2.5" drives, not 3.5" drives.  Though I've seen some who hacked an eSATA on a Mac Mini on the net.  Don't forget a CoreSolo or CoreDuo Mac Mini won't give you much of an advantage over the G5.  Core2Duo 2.2 Ghz or higher is better unless you still depend on numerous non-Universal applications.

  • Older Mac games on a an Intel-based iMac

Does anyone know if it is possible to play older (1995 and up) Mac games on a new, Intel-based iMac?

Seconded. Emulation is the only way to run Classic games on Intel Macs. Rosetta is the framework that allows Intel Macs to run PPC Mac programs (for OS X). Before the Intel switch, Mac's also used something called the "classic environment." This allowed OS X users to run OS 9-compatible applications in OS X, but this is impossible under OS X.
I don't have any experience with SheepShaver. I believe Q (which is Mac port of a emulator called QEMU) can emulate PPC environments (I know QEMU can; so I can only presume Q can). But as the previous poster mentioned, the only legal way to get the ROM images you need is by actually owning a PPC Mac.
