Does the battery protection system run on MacBook Pro?

Sorry guys, if I didn't phrase it properly.
I remember on a PowerBook, when the battery reaches 100%, the charge stops and the battery level starts to drop till 95% and it'll start charging again. But I realize that my MBP always stay at 100%. Isn't that a bad thing?
Thank you!
Colin

It does drop on my macbook all the way down to 95% when it begins to charge again. You might have a bad battery. But I can confirm that battery acts the same way as on my powerbok g4 DL.
Cheers

    penny41,
Thanks, glad it helped you to check your battery status.
Something else to look at would be the cycle count, as you mention that your computer is "ancient". If you have a high number of cycles, it may also be a sign that the battery is tired and possibly nearing it's life span, and may possibly need to be replaced soon. If you see that again you may try a SMC reset to see if that helps, but if it continues you may need a new battery at some point. The battery icon will usually say needs service, or something to that effect.  For the later MBP's Apple claims a life span of up to 1000 cycles, of this also will be dependent on who the battery is used, on the older ones I'm not quite sure what the claims were, and I don't know how old "ancient" in your case actually means.
I provide this for your info, so that you understand what may possibly be occurring.
    I wish you the best.

Follow directions for what applies to your machine, a battery you can remove, or a battery you should not remove yourself.

  • What is the fastest OP system for a Macbook Pro Retina 2.6?

What is the fastest OP system for a Macbook Pro Retina 2.6? I'm new to Mac so please excuse the weird question.

Ok but that is a feature that I think is available to older Mac's that have an SSD so it is not totally restricted to Retina models or even the newest models of Mac's.
With that you could say No Mac is what you paid for without ML installed. Which I disagree with.

Well, I am. Power Nap is just one of the features you don't get on a Retina unless you do run Mountain Lion.

Does the Apple remote control work with MacBook Pro with retina? If yes, how can I sync it?
    Thanks!

It should. First, turn on BlueTooth on the computer. In BT preferences be sure to check the option to look for all devices. Your remote should be picked up and a notice asking if you want to Pair it with the computer. Select Yes. Once it is paired it can be used to control your computer.

  • Does the wall charger for a 17" macbook pro work on my new Macbook Pro?

I searched for docs and specs but can't seem to come with anything. Does the wall charger for a 17" macbook pro work on my new Macbook Pro?

Well, obviously you have NO faith in me or you wouldn't ask.
Go to the Apple Store online. Search for laptop power products and look for Apple's replacement AC adaptors. One is the 60 watt model for MacBooks. The other is the 85 watt adaptor - now read this very carefully because it's in smaller, lighter print - which says for 15" and 17" MacBook Pros. Will you take Apple's word?

  • The current operating system on my MacBook Pro is 10.5.8.  I would like to upgrade it so I can use iCloud.  Which newer version of OS should I download?

Would like to use iCloud, but am currently using OS 10.5.8 with my MacBook Pro.  Which newer OS should  I download?

    Yes.
Get the Snow Leopard install DVD (Amazon etc...)
Use software update to get Snow Leopard 10.6.8
In Snow Leopard, you will have App Store application under the Applications folder
Launch the App Store app - it will use your Apple ID to set up purchases and payments
    Search for OS X Lion
Purchase Lion - it will download and install automatically over Snow Leopard
    NOTE 1:
Make sure you backup whatever is necessary. That should go without saying.
    NOTE 2:
Your Mac will likely be able to run Mountain LIon which is coming out in a couple of weeks.
I think, if you buy hte Lion now, you might be eligible for free upgrade to Mountain Lion.
If not, I'd hang on until ML is out, then buy it - that would be my preferred solution
Here is some info on upgrading and eligibility...

  • What size SSD does the 13 inch 2012 entry-level MacBook Pro use?

I want to upgrade my 2012 13" MacBook Pro to use an SSD. I know that MacBooks use 2.5 inch laptop drives, but what are the sizes that MacBooks support?
    12.5mm, 9mm or 7.5mm etc...?

Most if not all SSDs are of the 9mm size and have a rubber bumper on them to make them taller, the 12.5 size. you can take the bumper system off most of them to make them fit into a 9mm space. But your Mac will take any size UP To 12.5mm. Not so for the optical bay.

  • The battery in my mid 2010 Macbook Pro goes dead while plugged in to

I tend to use my lap top alot with the cord plugged in. Sometimes the indicstor glows red and doesn't charge. Sometimes it glows green and the battery is draining and sometimes it seems to be working properly. I have an app called battery health which gives a more detailed picture. If I do not notice that it's draining, I never get a warning about low battery power. It will just shut down. I wil unplug and plug in the charger a couple of times and set it asaide for a while to recharge. When I restart the date reverts to some time in 2008 and the battery health app saws to trash and redownload it. Any ideas what is causing this?

You need to stick with RAM spec'd to your computer. You won't receive the benefit of the 1333 RAM as your computer will default to 1066. Not to mention, the 1333 may not even work. Stick with what's spec'd for your computer...Mac's are very picky about RAM.

  • ¿el complemento fan control daña mi macbook pro? Does the fan control plug damaged my macbook pro?

Agradezco que me saquen de esta duda.

    Hi Phelusia,
Your fan(s) are always running when the computer is turned on and not in sleep mode. At an idle fan speed (~2000 RPM) you should not be able to hear the fans unless there's a problem with the fan assembly. If there's an audible noise then it's possible that the fan needs to be replaced, especially if you're also having cooling issues with the machine.
You can run the Apple software update on the Windows side to see if there any new drivers available and you can also run 3rd party 'fan management' programs to try and address any cooling issues. But as you encountered, Apple won't do much to support the Windows side of things.
I suspect there might be an issue with one (or both) of the fans or a temperature sensor in the machine that's causing things to not behave properly.

  • HT3053 Can I run my MacBook Pro Late 2008 without battery forever? Is it bad in long term or anything? Does it make the system less stable?

Can I run my MacBook Pro Late 2008 without battery forever? Is it bad in long term or anything? Does it make the system less stable?
My battery got swollen (and I unfortunately noticed it very late and might have be running with it for months, which potentially explains all the crashes everyday and the trackpad not working anymore, the Apple test also says I have a bar of ram broken...) and I had to remove it because the back pannel did not close anymore... Can I still use my MBP normally forever that way? I was planning on buying a new mac anyway but maybe waiting for the next iMac upgrade in the year... Should I wait?

Other than the system shutting down instantly if you have a power outage, whcih could corrupt the OS. Nothing else bad will happen.

Same thing occurs with the iMac dual core from 2007. MacBook battery replaced. Is it internal battery for both, new logic board required, bad hard drive, or bad RAM?
    Help.

Run an Apple Hardware Test using the original installation disk that has the AHT instructions on it.
    Try SMC and PRAM resets:

It is possible that you may need a new PRAM battery.

My Imac late 2012 running Yosemite does not recognise my Huawei 3g usb modem. itried to install Java bt still it does not although the same modem works with my MacBook pro . any help please

    Hey there mbarikiwa,
If your iMac still has not recognized the usb modem, I would use the troubleshooting for Yosemite USB issues in the following article:
OS X Yosemite: If a USB device isn’t working
If the device is connected to a USB hub:
Make sure the device and the hub are the same speed. Connect USB 3.0 SuperSpeed devices to a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed HUB, USB 2.0 Hi-Speed devices to a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed hub, and so on.
If the device doesn’t have a power cord and is plugged into another USB device that doesn’t have a power cord:
Try plugging the device directly into your computer’s USB port  or into a USB device that does have a power cord. You might need to disconnect and reconnect the other device as well, if it has stopped responding.
If you have many devices connected to your Mac:
Disconnect all USB devices except the device you’re testing, an Apple keyboard, and an Apple mouse. Make sure that the device is connected directly to the computer, and that any hubs or extension cables are disconnected. If you can use the device now, the problem may be with one of the other USB devices or hubs you had connected to your computer. Try reconnecting them, one by one, to your computer. When you find the device causing the problem, review its documentation for further troubleshooting steps.
Verify that the device appears in System Information:
Choose Apple menu > About This Mac. In the window that appears, click Overview, then click the System Report button to open System Information.
In the window that appears, see if the USB device is listed below Hardware in the Contents list. If the device appears but does not work, review the device’s documentation for further troubleshooting steps.
    Restart apps:
Quit and restart any apps that use the device.
    Restart your Mac:
    Choose Apple menu > Restart.
    Check your device’s USB connection
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities
It sounds like the next best step to take would be to reset the iPod Shuffle.
