I have followed every step in the various help pages I was directed to when troubleshooting the inability to install Adobe Flash Player on my Mac using either Safari or Chrome. Everything has failed. I always get the black box that says briefly, "Retrieving instal. . . " and then goes blank. When I close that window, I get the message, "Adobe Flash Player could not be installed." Then it gives some links to follow for troubleshooting. I have followed ALL of the links there and on other help pages, to no avail. I've run into problems installing Adobe before, but it's never been this bad. Would someone please develop another format besides Adobe? Trying to get help from Adobe feels a little like trying to find a building in New York City with no map or GPS. The time required is voluminous, the emotional energy a/k/a frustration is overwhelming, and long before I get anything resolved, I wish the earth would open up and swallow all things Adobe@. Absence that miraculous intervention, I have to figure out what to do next. Does anyone know? Anyone?

How can I stop the black box appearing round a movie?
So I've created a PDF with quicktime movies embedded in it on indesign, and I've taken the black outline off and have the movie automatically playing when you open the page. The problem is when it plays another black box appears round the movie and you have to click off it to make it disappear - it looks unprofessional and if you're in full screen mode this makes it turn to the next page, and we don't want that, do we.
Does anyone know how to get rid of this black box so that it stays without a border when it's playing? I guess it happens because the movie is selected, but I can't seem to find anywhere in the edit movie dialogue box that says anything about it.
Thanks. Thanks Steve, we'll look into buying Acrobat X because it would look so much better.
One question though - If I was to sort out the settings on Acrobat X, would the black box still appear when viewed on Acrobat 8? -
When syncing recently, a program called the black box downloaded to my iPad. I noticed the same thing when syncing my iPod. Does anybody know what this is? It is not something that shows up in my apps.
Maybe it was a song, video or book? Search your iTunes library on your computer. Also, use Spotlight to search for it on your iPad.

I'm currently using the iPad 2 to review photos and I also mirror it to an HDTV (via HDMI adapter). Does the "new iPad" output a better picture quality using the same connection method? This is mainly in reference to mirroring and not for watching movies/video.
Wundrbr3d-
I expect that video will be higher resolution since there is also a new HDMI adapter available for the iPad 3. I do not know if it is required for a lower resolution source, but probably is for higher resolution.

How do I remove the black box that appears over images in Aperture?
I may have engaged a shortcut in Aperture but I would like to remove this function. How do I remove the black box that appears over images in Aperture? It gives you the image name, camera make and so on. It only appears when you use your mouse and let go of it over an image.

What does the grey box and brush in some project bin images mean?
Using Elements 10 with Windows 7: What does the small grey box and brush in the upper right corner of some project bin images signify? Thanks!
Thanks! Yes, it does seem to be random. BTW, how did you learn of this? I've not seen it written anywhere.

Supposed to mean that you have edits you haven't saved yet, but they can be kind of random, sometimes.

Can Someone Open the Black Box
01. I think I understand RSL usage for the Flex framework and
I think I like the fact that its implementation, for all practical
purposes, remains a Black Box. I can't see inside, but don't need
to since it just works as described in the many Googleable postings
available.
02. Now, however, we migrate to AIR and I challenge you to
find a solid description of the expected behavior in the AIR
environment. [Yes, there is one jira entry, in which some
developer, acknowledging an error in the air-config file adds the
cryptic comment -- "We don't expect most AIR apps to use these
RSLs.".
03. Now someone needs to open that black box so we can
determine how to properly take advantage of the client-side cache
for AIR applications. For that matter, it would be nice to see
concise information concerning the use of Modules in AIR
applications, but I will be so happy if I can just get the
framework modules to work properly.
04. Here is observed behavior from outside the Black Box.
A. Write/test/deploy a Flex Application compiled for use of
dynamic framework RSLs. Put the framework.swz file where the
webserver needs it to be -- and add the framework.swc version just
for the heck of it.
B. It works beautifully, and you can go look in the
client-side cache to see that the files were downloaded when
required -- just as advertized.
C. Write/test/deploy an AIR Application that uses SWFLoader
to launch on-demand exactly the same Application.swf file that was
run above.
D. It is much harder to trace, but the fact that the Module
runs correctly inside AIR is proof that AIR knew how to check the
client-side cache to resolve the links to the framework code, just
perfectly. But, if you are a doubting Tomas, rerun this AIR test
after you delete the framework.swz file from the the client-side
cache and wait for your #2032 error -- it will pop up pretty
quickly.
So, other than by asking the client to run a Flex application
in order to force-download the required framework, what is the
design pattern, best-practice or other direction concerning the
correct way for a pure AIR application to take advantage of
client-side caching of the ever-expanding framework
codebase?Hello Maureen1842,
It sounds like you are able to see the Slide to Unlock screen but there is an outline around Slide to Unlock and it will not slide. From what you describe I'm thinking that Voice Over is enabled on the phone. Try doubletapping Slide to Unlock, that should get you to your home screen. Then go to your settings and disable Voice Over.
Turn VoiceOver on or off. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > VoiceOver

Haunted by the Black Box of Death
Ok, I'm having the most confusing annoying issue trying to install Tiger on one of the machines @ work. The machine is a mid-generations gigabit model G4 400 single processor with plenty of ram, and current firmware. Yet for some reason, as soon as i restart onto the OSX disc to install, it gets as far as the "choose a language" screen (If that far at all) and then drops the gray curtain with the black box in the middle w/ the power button silho. and the "You need to restart your mac..." message in 4 languages.
I've installed Tiger on dumber machines in this office, and none of them were giving me this much grief. This machine doesnt seem to want to get past OS 9.2, and unfortunately I do have to leave that inplace, as we still use 2 or 3 classic apps.
If anyone can tell me how to get past this screen, or even just what may be wrong Id love to hear it.
Thanks,
-JHello,
First, make sure that you have the latest Firmware updates installed. Refer to the article at:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117
This will list all the available firmware updates for each machine.
If you already have the latest firmware update installed, and are still having this problem, then I would suspect bad memory first.
Try removing any expanded memory you have installed (leaving the factory memory installed) and see what happens.
There were a lot of marginal memory modules sold before OS X was released.
Many of these modules would work perfectly fine, and then fail completely once you installed (or tried to install) OS X 10.0
This was a huge issue back then. Many people discovered that their memory modules were just slightly out of spec, and needed to be replaced with proper modules that were produced exactly to spec.
Perhaps this is what is going on with your system.
Since you have been using 9.2 on that machine, your expanded memory (if you have any) may be slightly out of spec, but was not noticed by OS 9.2.
Hope this helps. -
When booking a one to one session online, what does the black arrow with a moving blue circle underneath mean?
check with your carrier. Also how many bars do you have? Sometimes only having 1 bar will not send texts or make calls.
BTW the red circle with the exclamation point in it means it failed to send. -
Does the video adapter output both S-Video and Composite simultaneously?
I have a multi-zone receiver which converts S-Video to component for the main zone and passes S-Video signals through to zone 2 but does not convert them to composite which is how that zone is set up. I solved a similar problem with my DVD player by connecting both the component output and composite output of the DVD player to the receiver allowing high quality viewing in the lounge room and passable viewing in the bedroom.
I realise the quality from the adapter is questionable particularly for composite but I'm still interested if both S-Video and composite signals are output from the MBP 17" via the adapter simultanesouly.
Thanks,
Max.I have a follow-up question which may help answer the original question. Does the MBP have to detect the external display when connected via S-Video/Composite in the same way that it has to when connected via DVI? My Dell notebook had so much trouble detecting composite and S-Video connections that eventually I gave up so I'm a little "once bitten twice shy" on this. If the MBP doesn't attempt to detect the external display via S-Video or composite then it must output both S-Video and Composite signals continuously (which would be great).
Thanks,
Max. -
Why does the black iPhone 5 not have a front mic?
I noticed that the white iPhone 5 has a front mic while the black does not. How come?
What you're NOT seeing on the black model is the proximity sensor which is to the left of the earpiece/speaker if the phone is viewed from the front. This is visible on the white model but not the black model.
The mic is apparently contained within the earpiece/speaker hole. See the following .pdf file (you need Acrobat Reader installed to view) and zoom in to the front view.

What does the black screen with large exclamation point mean?
I'm trying to edit, or even just select a photo in iPhoto, but can't get it to come up - just the black screen with a large exclamation point. What does that mean, and how do I get back control of my photos?
It means your database is corrupted and that iPhoto has lost the link between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the actual file.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Anyone else have the black box of death with codes on your screen? (DVR)
I've manually reset and still get this black box with codes on my TV sceen. It blocks out 90% of the screen. I've also tried the online reset and they "cannot process" my request at this time! The code is <00815BAC> [DCE2]. It's definitely DVR-related - my non-DVR TVs work fine.
Anyone have any ideas what the problem is? (thanks)
