Does the Bluetooth always transmit?

On Macs with bluetooth (like my iMac Intel Core 2 Duo), if I have bluetooth turned on, does anyone know if it always is sending out an "I am here" signal, or does it only transmit once a bluetooth device is turned on or when you specifically ask the computer to search for bluetooth devices? Does anyone know for sure?

Yes, when Bluetooth is on, it's signal is active. You can make it non-discoverable in the Bluetooth settings, but devices you already paired with and some special programs (Bluetooth scanners) can probably still find your Mac.
Not much to worry about though.

First off: sorry again for all the n00b questions.
Next: So does the finder always stay "open"? Like with the blue dot below it. I already asked about the others and I realized I have to click command+Q but for the finder... it just stays "open"

You can quit the Finder but the option is hidden by default in OS X. As the Finder is the way that you interact with OS X its default is to restart automatically if it's quit. For example if it locked up (never happened to me though) and you used Force Quit (alt - command - esc) it would restart automatically. Using a third party application like TinkerTool (which simply opens up more of OS X'x capabilities) you can quit the Finder for specific purposes.

I know this is probably a dumb question but i really want a mac before i graduate high school and i am saving up everylast penny to get one and i was wondering does the bluetooth and airport come built into the computer or do you have to buy it extra?

When there are several tabs open, why does the search always take place on the 2nd tab (the first tab seems never to change from the home page) despite my selecting a different tab in which to do a google search?

I have Mozilla Firefox 10.0. When I open it, it correctly opens on the homepage in the first tab. Once I have another, or several, tabs open, no matter which tab is active, any google search I do immediately takes place in tab No 2. It doesn't seem to matter how many times I go to e.g. tab 4 to do a search (because I wish to compare with the webpage open in tab 2), yet it always now does the search in tab 2. This is very irritating. There must be some setting that has gone pear-shaped, but where/which? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Does the bluetooth function work with the scanner function on my Photosmart C5550?

I have a new Dell computer and an HP Photosmart C5550. I use bluetooth to connect to the print. The printer function works correctly but the computer does not recognize the scanner function. Does the scanner function work with bluetooth?

Sorry. I hit post before I could elaborate. Not sure what I was thinking. The Bluetooth connection will only support printing. To use the scan feature you will need to connect the printer using a USB or network connection. Hope that explains it a bit better.

Im having the same problem with my g4 iPod touch and it is driving me nuts. The freezes happen with downloaded movies ON my ipod, not my computer so these suggestions won't work. Does anyone know how the firewire cable transmits data? I have not been able to find a detailed explanation. I'm trying to figure out if its possible for the firewire cable to transmit the video but not the audio. When I import into Final Cut 3 from a canon camcorder using a firewire cable it imports the video but there is no audio.
I've checked the capture device presents in Final Cut and they all seem to be right. The only thing I can think of is there is something wrong with the cable.

Why does the location always read "go to a website" instead of the actual address?

If I were to go to www.amazon.com, why doesn't it show as this in the navigation bar? It always reads as "go to a website." I would like it show the exact http address like it always did.

Why does the cursor always falshes as if im writing something?

all the time the flashing cursor is appearing any where i press ...as if i want to edit something !!! its really annoying specially when you want to scroll down using the arrow keys!!

Does the bluetooth headphone feature not work at this time?

I have tried 2 different bluetooth headphones. They work with iPhone and iPod, but not the PowerBook.
My PowerBook recognizes and pairs with the headphones, but won't connect. Am I missing a step?

I had a set of bluetooth headphones - a while back. And I was able to make them work. Though, they aren't as great as you might think. My audio quality was "okay" at best. And you can also only have one bluetooth device hooked up at a time (I prefer to have a mouse!)
You may need to go into the System Prefs and set where the audio output is going to. I do not remember if I had to this but it seems a logical step as I sometimes need to this on my PowerBook when I hookup to new speakers.

I understand your Photosmart 5520 runs a blank sheet of paper before you copy a document. I will do my best to assist you! Just to clarify are you printing a document from your computer or copying a document directly from your printer?
If so, then please make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector. I want to see if this makes a difference. Next, try resetting the printer for more than 60 seconds. Leave the printer turned on, then disconnect the power cord.
Make sure the firmware is up to date on this printer. I will provide the HP website where you can find this download here.

Why does the cursor always zoom in whenever I scroll over a menu? It makes the broweser unusable

Whenever I go to the the firefox menu tab it automatically zooms in so taht it's unrecognizable thereby nonfunctional as I can't select any of the menu options. This just doesn't occur w the menu tab, but with bokmarks, filling in forms and etc
How is it turned off/fixed so it responds normally, not zooming in every time & so far in that it's nonfunctional?

hello, this might be an issue with hardware acceleration. please try [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL|updating your graphics driver]], or in case this doesn't solve the issue or there is no new version available at the moment, disable hardware acceleration in ''firefox > options > advanced > general''.

Why does the picture always zoom in when I try to set one for my lock screen or background?

When I chose a picture for my lock screen wallpaper it automatically zooms in on the picture. I cannot zoom out because it will not let me. I've tried different sites, reseting and I cant make any major adjustments without losing all my pictures, videos, ect. Is there something in the settings that needs to be changed or is this just a bug that Apple needs to work out?

On the Home screen, double-tap with three fingers to exit zoom.
Then go to Settings > General > Accessibility and make sure Zoom is turned Off.

why do you say it's not normal.
it always switches itself on after i update. it just did again, this time for 7.1.2.. i t also will switch on after a restore.
i never use bluetooth and make sure it's not on for any other reason.
it's been noticed by others too.
