Does the book title appear on the dust jacket spine?

Here's an easy question for anyone who has recently printed a book using iPhoto 08. I was just wondering if the new dust jackets show any printing on the spine. I printed my book to a PDF, and this would see to indicate the answer is "no", but I thought I'd double check.

Paul:
Yes, the title is printed on the dust jacket spine. You can see it in this view of the dust jacket form the pdf file that is created for uploading and printing. It's the text just to the left of the large picture with lots of red in it.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Why does the wheel keep spinning at the top of my screen on my iphone 5

    Basically,
I noted the past 2-3 days that my battery is dying really quick. It  dies after being charged all night within 25 minutes. I also noticed that the wheel keeps spinning at the top of my screen between the time and wifi symbol. Is there a connection?

I think that it is turning the WiFi switch on in Settings (from "not connected" ) that starts the wheel.
In normal circumstances the wheel stops when you have selected and connected to a network of your choice.

  • Can I get the Dust Jacket and the Great Cover Look of iPhoto in Aperture?

    Hello,
I am a huge fan of iPhoto (and most of the other Apple products.) I am using Aperture 2 and I recently created and ordered a book using it. I was blown away by the page layout options, however, I was greatly disappointed when I received my book and way the cover! It looked like someone just used some sort of "sticky" as the label/cover. It is already starting to peel off! Our client wasn't very happy with it at all.
Can someone tell my how I can get the great features and flexibility of the pages that are offered in Aperture along with the great cover and dust jacked of iPhoto? That would really be great!!
Thanks in advance for your help!

One option could be to save the Aperture book layouts as JPEGs and then add them to an iPhoto book as full-bleed images. Then order the book via iPhoto.

  • Spread on Large Hardcover Dust Jacket, what appears on the spine?

I'm designing a large hardcover book and I've created an outer spread across the dust jacket. I was hoping that the photograph would print across the spine but on-screen there seems to be no allowance for this (i.e. the width of the spread is exactly two page widths with nothing extra allowed for the width of the spine).
So, simple question - how does the spine of the printed book appear when a photo is spread across the dust jacket?
    Thanks,
    Graham
P.S. this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6734031&#6734031 mentions that the title is printed on the spine but doesn't say whether it appears over the photograph if the outer cover is configured as a spread...

    Richard:
1 - the hard cover has a silver embossed title. It's very nice. Be warned that many have been unhappy with the printing on the dusk jacket. It's been dark and bad color for many. Mine came in too dark but the book was OK. Apple has been very good about making things right in those occurrences.
2 - the spine has the book title printed on it and was oriented vertically as I recall. I gave the book away as a give so can't confirm. It's just the Title field and not the additional text that's in the lower field on the cover.

  • Same book appears multiple times in iBook collections. I have bought a few books in iBooks store but each title appear about 50 times. Also after synching or deleting book titles, they keep on re-appear.

Bought over the lat year a number of book titles but lately the book titles appear multiple time in the collection. It makes the collection UN accessible if you have to scroll down pages of the same title. I have tried to remove them from the collection but that doesn't work, they keep on re-appearing after the title is deleted. Is there a solution to this?

Oh, well that was a whole other kettle of fish:
Oh the G4 I attempted to install iLife '08 before Lepoard was available. About the only thing that installed cleanly was iPhoto. I ended up reinstalling everything back to iLife '06, and then upgrading back to the current stable version of the iLife '06 version. I didn't attempt a reinstall until after I upgraded to Leopard.
When I did reinstall, I made a iLife '06 folder, copied all iLife apps into it, and upgraded. Seemed to work, except for the part where iMovie gets left behind and iDVD is only mostly functional.
When I installed on the other 2 machines, it was after installing Leopard and all upgrades. On those 2 machines, I didn't bother with the copy, I just moved everything to the iLife '06 folder I created, and did a fresh install.
I didn't have to do anything with the iPhoto Libraries, that I can recall.
I always do an upgrade, never an archive and install. I've never had a problem with this back to 10.1 or 10.2.

  • Color of dust jacket in photo book

can i change color of dust jacket in photo book using aperture. its default is white but i would like it black.
    thanks
    pauline ottawa

The color of the dust jacket depend on the theme you are using. Some themes let you select the color of the dust jacket and the background of the images.
With "Art Collection" the only background available is white, but with the "Modern Lines" theme you can make the dust jacket black, like this:
Select the front cover page, switch to "Edit Layout", and select the background color.
If you need to use theme that does not allow to set the background color, you could try to add a photos box to the cover, drag the resize handle to make it fill the front page and set the border to a large value. Make the border black, then send this photos box to the background behind the title text and the title image. Do the same for the backside page of the dust jacket.

  • Best way to order dust jacket by itself (without book)?

I just received my first hardcopy book that I ordered through Aperture.  Just my luck, I discovered a typo in my text on the dust jacket, which I missed the 3 times I proofread it on-screen.
I didn't see a way of ordering the dust jacket by itself.  I suppose I could print to PDF and get it printed locally somewhere, but there doesn't seem to be a way of specifying pages to print (e.g. the first two pages and last two pages).
    Otherwise I'll use white-out?

Not accessing View elements? - Weird, since WDP does not have any sort of OGNL or EL where we could create directly in the UI (View Composer) all the required information for a LinkToAction - we use the wdDoModify in order to access and fill the missing information in the View itself.

I don't understand your issue. Where do you need code in wdDoModifyView() to configure a LinkToAction? Just create an action with a text/icon, assign it to the "onAction" event and the LinkToAction is complete.
The usage of context elements for data binding has for example the advantage that you can use the same context element for controlling properties of different UI elements. Using context mapping you can also control UI elements in different views.
In the given use-case you could for example compose your screen from different views and control the enabled/visibility state with one commen supply function which would be implemented in the component controller or some custom controller. If you would use wdDoModifyView() and direct access to UI elements you had to write code inside each view controller.

  • LR4.2 + Blurb book + dust jacket

I'm trying to create a Blurb book using LR4.2. I'm running into problems laying out the dust jacket. All my pages are full bleed but I don't know the full bleed pixel dimensions are for the dust jacket (standard landscape 10" x 8"). I'm using the layout where one image covers all of the flaps, covers and spine. I would need the pixel height plus the pixel widths for the flaps, covers, and spine.
    Thanks, Carey

Turns out (after spending an hour with online tech support) that the dust jacket feature has a bug in it and that no one has a clue as to what the full-bleed dimensions should be. Sad. Back to Booksmart for book layout.

  • Text on Dust Jacket different than on Hard Cover - Help

Although I read an April 30th posting on this same subject, I did not really understand the replies.
The dust jacket on my hardcover book is perfect in Lucinda Calligraphy Text as is all the text throughout the book. However when I checked the preview of my book, the Hard Cover Text was in a block type text.
How do I change the block text on the Hard Cover to Lucinda Calligraphy to match the rest of the book?
I have spent the past 2 days trying to figure this out and total frustration has finally set in.
Since I wish to order 6 copies of this book for family members, as a tribute to my recently deceased mother, I want it to be as perfect as possible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    PJC

    PJC:
What theme did you use and was the text you used for the dust jacket the default font for that theme. I just checked my last book and the embossed text was the same font as the dust jacket but I had used the default font. As Larry mentioned if a non default font is used for the dust jacket maybe a default block font is used for the embossing.
Post that question to Apple at http://www.apple.com/support/photoservices/contact_us/.

  • Need a dust jacket only....

Is it possible to order just the paper cover / dust jacket for a previously printed large hardcover ibook?

    Lynn:
Definitely suggest that option to iPhoto via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
An alternative might be the following:
1 - while in the book mode Control-click on the gray area next to a page and select Preview in the contextual menu.
2 - after the book has been rendered and you're looking at the preview do a Save As PDF.
3 - in the PDF file the first page will be the dust jacket as seen here. I'm sure you can find a printer like Kinko's to print that one page to glossy stock suitable for the dust jacket. If I'm not mistaken the size is 32.67 x 8.78 inches.

  • Lost dust Jacket front and back flap

I composed a book in Aperture using the Journal theme. After making a couple of PDF previews, somehow???? I have lost the dust JAcket front and back flap pages. I can't find a way to re-insert these from a master or build them any other way. I have tried to show the master pages and select the front dust jacket flap master and then 'Add New Page From Master', but it won't allow me to select that option. I still have the front cover and Back cover in the Pages layout. So, how do I rebuild the dust jacket flaps? My pages are as follows: 1st is the Front Cover; 2nd is a Blank page; then 3rd is my Table of Contents page(currently showing as Page 1). I made a duplicate (to experiment with ways to solve it) and tried to rebuild it using the same theme, but it makes a mess of it, loosing all my layouts. After having spent dozens of hours on this book and it was almost ready to send, I don't want to have to start all over again. Help!!!

  • How do I get the book title and author to appear on all pages?

I'm trying to create a new layout, and I can't quite figure out some of the auto-text boxes.
I'd like the book title, and author to appear at the top of the pages.
Also, I'd like the chapter title to be at the top of the page for the subsequent chapter pages, but not in the same size as the chapter title at the beginning of the chapter.
I've tried copying the chapter text box in layouts, then applying it to the chapter pages.  However, when I reformat the copied box for text size and orientation, the reformat effects all instances of that text box.  Grr.
(I know this all sounds like too much text and garbage on each page, but it's for an instructional piece that people will likely print a page or two at a time)

    Hello Andy,
Have you looked at the Layout Section.
If it is not visible pull down the handle and the master pages are there down the list for you to add and change.
Just first duplicate any page that you may want to change and then add the name and author titles to that page and press "APPLY"
    I hope this helps…
