I asked this on Yahoo! Answers, but I am not sure. I want to receive an answer from a reliable Macintosh user.
My sister and I share the same network to access the internet, but she is a PC owner while I run a Mac. Will I be affected by this worm?

no. it's windows worm running a windows code. it can do absolutely nothing to your mac.

The Heartbleed issue is a server, not a client, issue. In short, yes, it doesn't matter what you are running to connect to a site, the issue lies in what the server has installed for SSL. But the risk is not in infecting your Mac as much as stealing your login and other information.

In Creative Cloud, does the $9.99/month Individual Photography plan come with BOTH Lightroom and Photoshop CC? It is not very clear on the home page. It shows both and mentions both, but doesn't specifically say BOTH come with the monthly $9.99/month plan. Can somebody clarify?

That is because the phone is locked to the Orange network and an o2 sim card is not going to work with a phone that is locked to Orange.
You either need to purchase an Orange sim card and use that in the phone, or you need to get your friend to contract Orange and get the phone unlocked so that you can use an 02 sim card.
At the moment you will never be able to use the 02 sim card if the phone is locked to Orange. Either use Orange or get the phone unlocked. It is as simple as that.

Does the EQ setting in Settings -> Music affect only audio played from the Music app or does it also affect any other audio? Specifically, I'd like to know if the setting is applied to audio podcasts that are played from Downcast. Thanks!

Do I have the conficker worm/Traojan Horse? My HD is being deleted...

My MBP is about 4+ years old so it's had a good run but it should still have some miles left on it. However, recently I let someone use it and I think they accessed a site that allowed malware onto it because now every time I use it (specifically, every time I use the Airport) I can see the amount of available space on my HD changing - rapidly.
I tried to connect my external drive to start using Time Machine so I could do a backup and just restore everything from scratch, but I get an error message saying it couldn't perform the backup (which I assume is because I didn't originally have it set up as a Time Machine drive in the first place - I am a photographer/video editor so I use the external exclusively for storing media.)
Can I overwrite/reinstall the OS with the install discs without losing all my accumulated software? Will that do the trick? Or is there some protective software that will kill the worm?

Well thanks for the very quick reply, and I appreciate your conviction but I'm not 100% sold on there not being worms or viruses for Macs. Sorry. I know this has long been the story/diatribe you get when you talk to the 'geniuses' or any Mac nerd, and I used to tout it too as a long time Mac user but google will also tell you that they are infallible and my g-mail account was just hacked two weeks ago as well.
Second, I am using a Western Digital My Book to backup my media. While I do not technically go through a formal "backup" process I used to just do the drag and drop method and now I'd like to use Time Machine properly but once I set it up I started getting the dreaded error message. (Maybe you assumed I was using the Airport base station as a Time Capsule? I'm not sure what was confusing about that.)
Anyway after this thing started happening with my hard drive space disappearing I decided I would try to setup the My Book as a Time Machine and do a full system backup. Then I read this (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/11421.html):
"Time Machine works best if you use your backup disk only for Time Machine backups. If you keep files on your backup disk, Time Machine won’t back up those files, and the space available for Time Machine backups will be reduced."
I can't reformat the external disc because my whole life is on it. The only other place all that stuff exists, is my computer.
I'll try the safe mode thing, thanks for that. But what specifically do I have to do to 'clean up permissions'? I'm somewhat savvy, I've adminstered my own computers and some student labs for the last ten years but I still need a little push. Thanks.

I have just updated the new OS for Mac as well as the firmware and software for my HP LaserJet Professional P1102w. I looked at the video instructing on how to set up the wireless network for the printer and my Laptop. However, upon reaching the step that requires HTML configuration, instead going to the actual page, the link took me to an error page stating that it could not find its host. So, I would like to ask if this is due to HP not yet updated all Printer drivers to the latest OS or would it be another cause? Thank you!

Does the pixel size affect printing in iphoto?

Have trouble printing in iphoto. I can view the photo in iphoto fine. When I print, I am just getting a small corner of the picture. Can the pixel size affect printing?

Set your ruler increments to pixels Preferences>Units & Increments. You can fill the text box with placeholder text Type>Fill with Placeholder text and get a word count from the Info panel with Show Options turned on from the flyout.
From the Transform panel you can set a text box's width and height

if I had an intel mac with pci-e slots and had to cut from this rather lots o bang for the buck camera, I'd jump on the blackmagic intensity card. I'd do whatever I could to avoid HDV and get to some HD codec as quickly as possible. I'm leaning toward a convergent designs box for a project that is about to start in 2 weeks all shot on the HV-20.

You can restore the zoom feature by changing the values of the related prefs on the about:config page.

I know how you feel. Your MacBook Pro has integrated graphics 384 MB or 512 MB. If you are a gamer, creative professional or just want more VRAM get a 15 inch MacBook Pro with up to 1 gig of VRAM or a windows gaming laptop with up to 16 gigs of VRAM (a ridiculous amount!). If you get a windows pc, you can always install virtual box. There is no point in buying a 13 inch MacBook Pro unless you need a lightweight laptop with all of the extra "goodies". There is also no possible way to change the graphics unless you know how to "unhook" the card from the processor and install a new one. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Using a Mac on windows network with a proxy server

Hi I’m very new to Macs to apologies if this is a really silly question. I’m
trying to setup a Mac on our network and I’m having an issue getting it to work
properly with our proxy server. I have connected the Mac to the network and
selected automatic proxy configuration in the network settings using the URL of
our Pac file. I am asked for a proxy username and password when I initially try and
access a website but once I have entered my credentials they are saved in
keychain and anyone coming after me can browse using my account. I work in a
hospital so there are many different people accessing different devices. We
monitor and trace all users internet browsing so my question is can I configure
the Mac to ask for proxy credentials for different users? On our windows devices
a login box will appear if the browser has been closed and reopened. Can I do
this with the Mac?????

The short answer is that the IT department is a strict Microsoft shop and also incompetent. Almost everything in that message is patently false. Unfortunately, when accessing Microsoft Server services like this, you will need the support of the IT staff to tell you various settings to use. I think it is pretty clear that they have no intention of doing that.
There is nothing "special" about bootcamp. It is just a boot loader. A Mac running Windows via bootcamp is a Windows PC, not a Mac. As such, it will work perfectly fine in the network. You could also try running Parallels. I believe Parallels can be configured to use a bootcamp partition so you could run Windows via either bootcamp or Parallels.
One of the few things that is correct is that Apple does have to provide driver support for bootcamp and there is the possibility of random incompatibilities - but no more so than any other PC manufacturer. Parallels/VMWare may work around that with a different set of incompatibilities. Don't be too worried about this part. These "incompatibilities" are minor and almost always with funky hardware devices. What you want to do should work perfectly with either Parallels/VMWare or Bootcamp.
