(1) Am I right in believing that simply by opening an email you can pick up a trojan or other nasty? That's what I've always heard.
(2) Am I also right in saying that we can no longer 'forward' an email when viewing the list of 50 emails in the Inbox?
(3) If I correct on both counts, if I receive what clearly is a dodgy email and I need to forward it to a Third Party such as Paypal, I can't. To access the Fowrad button, we need to open the blasted email = puts us at risk.

ah - STZ1300man - you may have uncovered yet another dastardly attack on we poor XP/IE8 users.
Microsoft tried to kill us off once and failed but so many sites are now demanding IE9 or later so that we may "experience the full delights of everything we are offering"! Gmail, FileHippo and others, and now BT forum.
I'll try later on my Win7/IE9 laptop - I bet that's OK!

Why does firefox delete my incoming mail from the server when I start my PC

I have XP-Service Pack 3. When I start my PC, all my incoming mail is deleted from the server "Ziggo" When I set Windows Internet Explorer as the default, the problem is solved. I used Firefox 5.0 as well as Thunderbird, I'm now using Outlook express and Windows Explorer. I suspect that on Start-up, either Thunderbird or Firefox makes contact with the "Ziggo" server and deletes the mail. Ziggo, my ISP, cannot help me.

You don't have anything under Advanced between the Move Discarded Messages Into section and the S/MIME section?!
I have 2 sections in between:
Deleted Messages> Remove > how long before deleted messages are removed from the trash
and
Incoming Settings > ...
Sorry I do not know why you would not have those sections, especially the Deleted Messages section as this applies just to the Mail app and the Mail trash mailbox
the stock answer when puzzled is to suggest a Reset of your iPad:
hold both the Home button and the Power button down for 10+ seconds until the Apple logo appears. Let go promptly when you see the Apple logo. Wait another 30 seconds for your iPad to restart itself. No data will be lost.
see if that changes anything so that those sections reappear in your settings.
You could also try Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings ... I don't know enough about that to know if it will help, but it will mean you have to go back and fix all your settings afterward

guys,I am using mfe on my E63 with mail2web free account.I configured gmail to retrieve my hotmail mails then I configured gmail to forward my mails to my mail2web account.I did that so I dont have to have more than one mailbox on my phone and to be able to check my all accounts from one account which is mail2web via mfe.but my problim is when I delete an email via mfe from my phone its not been deleted from mail2web servers.I mean when I login on pc I see all the mails that I have been deleted.can I make the phone to also delete the mails from the server? thanx

First try rebuilding your Inbox.
Select the Inbox.
Under Mailbox in the Menu bar select Rebuild (last option in list)
Note: If you delete a POP account in Mail, it will delete any messages in the Inbox. It does not delete your custom folders or your sent messages.
If the messages have been deleted and are no longer on the server, you can restore from Time Machine.

Mail is not downloading e-mail from the yahoo server. However, I am able to send e-mails out

My problem with mail concerns gmail and not Yahoo. But about once a day I see an email come in on my iPhone or iPad and then I wait for it to come in on my MBP, running Mavericks 10.9.2 with all the updates current. It never does come in. I find that by exiting from Mail and then in a few seconds opening it again that the missing mail will come in. Also, I found that by taking the gmail server off line and then right back on line that the missing email will come it.
I like to reply to my email from the MBP so that I have a record of the sent files. Sending from the IOS devices doesn't let the MBP know about the sent file.
This never happens under IOS 7.1 on my iPhone and iPad. So I suspect it is a problem with Mavericks.
I'm sure I'm not the only one having problems with this. Is this a problem with Mavericks or with gmail?

I can't access my mail from the server!!!

I am having trouble retrieving mail....I click on "Get Mail" and nothing happens. When I select the inbox and Get Info, it shows that there are a number of new emails on the server, yet my Mail program does not want to retrieve them. I checked to see if my account was enabled (under Preferences) and it is....I don't understand what the problem is...this is happening in a networked office of 10 other macs, and only one other person is having this exact same problem. very weird. internet works fine.
any suggestions? I'm about to download a new mail program like entourage if this keeps up.

We own Entourage already, so that isn't a problem.
Right now we're using www.mail2web.com as a temporary solution, but that isn't really practical for a professional architecture firm where email records are essential to our business.
I would love to keep using Mail, I really have no idea how to fix this problem. I don't know why it is only happening to 2 of our 10 computers, there is no difference in the setup of any of them, and this started mid-morning, so I know that the users did nothing to the settings. It just stopped wanting to pick up mail from the server.
File size does not seem to matter, because one of the computer's mailboxes has about 10,000 emails saved, and the other has about 20, and they are showing the exact same behaviour. It is really strange!

I updated my Mac now I cannot get my mail from the "postage stamp" It keeps saying the mail will repair but it doesnt.

How recently did you switch? If it's less than 60 days, then Verizon simply reinstates your previous account. The fact that you were on the EDGE plan and mailed the devices back, and they apparently are somewhere in the system, could cause complications, and it might just work out that you just go back on the same plan and they set you up with the same devices. I'm not sure how it will go - but since you are still being billed for the devices...

If your hard drive is getting full, you need to free up, at least, 20 GBs of space on your iMac's hard drive.
If your Mac is running a fairly recent version of OS X, here are some general guidelines.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Other things you can do to gain space.
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it run the automatic ans S.M,A.R.T. tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the tabs that have the ability to clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.

When I go to Yahoo Mail from the home page all of the items (folders) are listed on the left but the rest of the page is blank. The mail opens just fine if I start with explorer, so it cannot be a Yahoo problem.

I have been running iCloud on my iPhone (OS5) and iMac (Lion) along with the MacBook Pro (OS Version 10.6.8) since November until now. Mail will no longer download on the MacBook Pro and keeps asking for my password.

Mail should still be usable with your machine - but you'll need to update the settings to conform to the requirements of your system. Check with your ISP (like ATT, etc.) for the settings that will work with your Mail. Once you've updated this, you should be able to email like before.
For example, my ISP required that I go to Mail Preferences/Accounts and make sure the details conform to your email settings.
I have no idea of what your ISP is or what the settings might be, but this is likely the source of the problem.
