Does the Inventory database clean itself?

Scenario:
NW 6.5 SP5
eDir 8.7.3.8
ZfD 6.5 SP2
Issue:
Need to delete and reimport all wks in eDir.
Details:
All workstations are imported into eDir, and scanned by ZfD 6.5 Inventory services.
A number of the wks are (due to historical reasons) imported into wrong contexts,
and a number of them are imported with a wrong wks name too.
What happens with the Inventory database if I delete all imported wks objects,
and then reimports them with a new name, and some of them also into another OU?
Can I just do this, and thereafter start a full new inventory scan?
What will happen with the old database entries for the wks that will be imported into a new OU,
and with the wks that will import under another name..?
In other words, will the inventory database be cleansing itself for the old wks entries?

normally yes.. take a look at the documentation and the sync schedule of
the inventory service object.

no, removing the workstation does not remove inventory.

  • Does the Repair Database Option Remove Duplicates?

My main question is does the repair database option also delete some duplicates? I ask because I recently had an issue with importing some duplicates. Before tackling the process of removing the dups, I decided to go ahead and repair the database since I imported a bunch of files and wanted to make sure everything was working correctly. After the repair database completed, I noticed that I had about 2k fewer images in my database. Luckily I had backed it up before I ran the repair. I opened up the backup and so far all I see missing are some of the dups. I spot checked at least 10 different projects and all the original masters seem to be there.
I wasn't aware that repair would actually remove files. I wish it would have removed all of them but I still kind of find this to be weird as that was an unexpected function. What do you guys think?

Neither  of the first aid options, repair or rebuild, intentionally target duplicates. Any files removed by either of those procedures were removed because of some inconsistency in the database.
After either of those run you might see a new project in your library named Recovered. This contains any orphaned image files, files for which Aperture could not place in a project.

And how does it play without being requested ?

    1. The SCB-68 is just a terminal block; it does not measure anything. The measurement is made on the board connected to the SCB-68.
    2. Computer-based data acquisistion devices and 480 V motors with solid state speed controls do not "play nice," as the kids say. The connections you are trying to make may well end up with a fried data acquisition board, fried computer, and MOST IMPORTANTLY a fried USER!
Ground loop problems may produce noisy measurements or may destroy all the low current devices (like the computer) in the system.
Signal conditioners are not only to reduce noise but also to provide safe isolation between the high voltage and high power parts of the system and the more sensitive parts.
A thermocouple is a voltage generating device. The measurement system measures that voltage (typically millivolts) and independently measures the temperature of the "cold junction" of the thermocouple. The temperature at the hot junction of the thermocouple is calculated as Temperature(TC voltage difference) - Temperature(cold junction). If currents flow through the TC wires, due to ground potential differences between the motor frame and the computer ground for example, the voltage drop from Ohm's law is added to the TC voltage and will produce temperature errors. TC wire may have significantly higher resistance than wires used for most elelctrical signals so the interfering signal may be greater than the desired signal.

  • Does iPod Photo Cache clean itself?

I typically shoot 400 photos and keep 100.  I don't always delete the extras right away, and a few syncs may occur in between.
I'm wondering -- will the iPod Photo Cache get cluttered up with photos I later deleted... or does the photo sync software know how to "tidy up" as it goes?
I'm wondering if it's worth deleting the iPod Photo Cache periodically and letting it rebuild.  I say "worth" because it takes the computer many hours of high CPU to do this job for each of my devices, so I don't want to do it if it's not definitely useful.

In general it's not necessary to delete or "clean" any cache on your mac unless you're having a specific cache related problem. The OS (or the individual) apps do this.

  • Moving the Inventory Database

Does anybody know what the steps are in moving a database to a different volume?
We are running Zenworks 6.5 sp3 on a netware 6.5 sp3 server. I want to move the database to a different volume on the same server because of space limitations on the current volume. I don't want to lose the current db and create a new one.

Apple ships directly to each store based on amount of pre-orders.  So, we don't really choose, Apple does.

  • Why does the iPod starts by itself?

When I plug the earphones into my iPhone 3G, the iPod automatically starts playing songs. Why does that happen then?

    - By restore itsself do you mean that it erases itself and then either sets ups as a new iPod or restores from a iCloud backup or backup on yur computer?
    - You also say that "how can i just make my ipod a hotspot or something?"
The iPod does not have celluar connectivity so it has to use wifi to connect to the internet. When you first get a new iPod yu can set it up via wifi or by connecting it to a computer that is connected to the internet. Has the iPod been setup already?

  • Why does the Background Layer unlock itself?

When I open a picture in PS the first layer is a locked background layer. If I start working in PS it changes automatically to an unlocked Layer 0. I want it to stay as an locked background layer. I have used PS for a few years, and just started happening.

With the new version of Photoshop if you work on the background layer and do something like click on the add layer mask icon in the layer palette. Since the background layer does not support transparency Photoshop knows you need to convert the background layer to a normal layer so Photoshop automatically does that for you.  If you just paint on the background layer or clear or fill an area, stroke a selection it will remain a background layer  with its transparency locked.  The Background layer is only partially locked so you can work on it as shown by the un-filled in lock icon on the background layer in the layer palette.  If you look here you see layer 2 is unlocked, Layer 1 is fully locked and the background layer is partly locked and has been worked on.

  • Error during install when doing the Oracle Database Configuration Assistant

    OS: Windows 2003 Server
    Oracle Version: 10g
    Error: ORA-12638: Credential retrieval failed
Why would we get this error on a new install? I'm finding Oracle extremly difficult to even get installed. We couldn't get it to install on a Windows XP Pro machine and now we can't get it to install on a 2003 Server machine. I have no problems with Microsoft SQL server installs. Any help would appreciated. As I understand even though we are an Oracle partner we still would have to pay for phone support. We would just get a discount. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We need to get Oracle running ASAP.

I ran into this error at a customer's location where Active Directory was being used. This is how I fixed it:
Open the sqlnet.ora file (located at <ORACLE_HOME>\network\admin) with notepad and comment out the following line:
    <tt><b>#SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)</b></tt>
Here's a quick explanation of why this error occurs:
    <blockquote>ORA-12638: Credential retrieval failed
    Cause
The database and client always cross authenticate each other if NTS authentication is negotiated.
This is regardless of whether the user will ultimately be authenticated by the database using a user name and password or OS credentials. NTS authentication happens at the start of the handshake. For NTS authentication to succeed both the client OS user and the database server must be in the same domain or in two domains which trust each other.
    Solution
Either create trust between the two domains or change the client or server SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES such that NTS in not negotiated in the connection handshake. NTS is only negotiated if both client and server have SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES set to NTS.
    Credential retrieval failed

  • Why does the check box untick itself?

I have a program which has a GUI control that I designed. It consists of several check boxes inside a panel, the user can tick one or more of them. There are various methods to get all the selections, untick boxes in code etc. In one place in my software, I need a dialog box to appear when the user ticks a box. So I got my control to raise a property change event whenever one of the check boxes is ticked or unticked. I then catch this in another part of the code, and cause a dialog to appear which asks the user for further options.
My problem is this: for some strange reason, when the dialog appears, it is causing the check box to be unticked again immediately after it is ticked. I have prepared a simplified version of the problem code, below. If you comment out the call to ticking(), then it works ok (but the dialog doesn't appear obviously). Has anyone got any ideas, please?

  • C1 Inventory Database object

I've been trying to install ZDM services on a OES2 server and have been having all sorts of trouble. After numerous reinstalls, I've decided to install the parts one at a time until I found what wasn't working, and it ends up being the Inventory Database. I have performed a new install of the Inventory Database only, it creates the object in ConsoleOne, I can configure the properties of it, but when I try to do the Tools->Zen Inventory-> Configure DB, I keep getting a message saying that it is unable to connect, check database properties and make sure that it is running.
The only property that I have changed is changing the server name from DNS address to IP address, nothing else. I've checked the services on the server and novell-zdm-sybase is running, but I'm not seeing any log files in /var/log/novell/zenworks, only the logs from installation. Any ideas at where I should be looking next? Thanks!

They are running, and all of the services that I have installed are also running, but I still get the error. I have noticed that when I have a clean install with only OES2 and ZDM everything works, but I also want to have GWMobile on the same server and that is usually where I run in to trouble. The only changes that I've made is the apache listen.conf file to different ports so that GWMobile works on the server, but after installing ZDM I get a "cannot contact relay server" from the localhost when I try to access the login page, but that is another issue. It seems like I can either install GWM or ZDM on the server it is fine, but they don't seem to get along together. Any ideas for something else to check would be great. Thanks!
