Does the iPad battery ever need replacing?

blank screen...tried shut down and restart and no go

Not sure about your blank screen or what may be causing it. But to answer your original question posed in the subject, yes, the battery in an iPad will eventually wear out. You'll then have to send your iPad to Apple for a fix.
If the Restart didn't help your iPad and you are sure you have charged your battery at least overnight (making sure that the outlet and charger are good) then I suggest taking your iPad to an Apple store for a consultation. Make an appointment before going.

You can charge at any time, but see link below about calibrating battery.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Does it matter if the lightning cable is plugged in but not connected to an electrical outlet? Will this drain the ipad battery?

Does it matter if the lightning cable is plugged in but not connected to an electrical outlet? Will this drain the ipad battery? We use an ipad cart at school, and some of the teachers will connect all the ipads up to the cart, but then neglect to power up the cart. The laptop with the cart has already had the battery wrecked because of this (within a two month period), and I am concerned the ipads may have an issue if this continues to happen. I need some reassurance before I make the other teachers paranoid!

ok this one is kind in the gray area for me. I say if it is plugged in to a power up cart but not plugged in to a outlet, then all is is doing is not charing, and of course lossing a charge over time in standby, not really causing any issues. User guide and apple sites say it will drain the battery life.
Important: The iPad battery may drain instead of charge if iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, to a USB hub, or to the USB port on a keyboard.
however “Battery life” means the time your iPad will run before it must be recharged.
so I think it will be ok, as long as you charge it as usaul it should be fine.
just use these links for and understanding for batteries and the ipad, of course the user guide.

The iPad charger is dual voltage. You need only a plug adapter to be able to plug your US charger into a European wall outlet. A basic one costs about $2.00. - $6.00. Like this...

  • HT4060 Is it true you hve to let the IPad battery get real low before you charge it?

I have been told that if I charge the iPad when it is at 1/2 charge that the iPad will start to remember that it needs charged again. I was told the iPad will think it is a in a lower charge than it actually is.  So if I charge it every day at 1/2 charge by the time it gets to 1/2 charge, it will slow down or may not work.  This doesn't make any sense to me.  If full, is 100%  50% 20% why would the iPad think it needed charged when it was at half charge.  Does it have a  mind. Does it cause it to think in that position if I charge it at 1/2 charge? Does it sinc in that spot?  Hope you understand what I am trying to tell you.  My son is good with the computer electronics but this has me stumped?
    Thank You, Judy Venema

  • Does the iPad support flash player yet?

Does the iPad support flash player yet?

As has been said here many times now, Adobe has ceased development on all versions of their mobile Flash player, and since the chances are vanishingly small that Apple will ever develop their own, iOS devices will probably never natively support Flash content or apps. If Flash capability is criticial to your needs, you'll probably want to choose another device, though even Android and Windows phone and tablet devices are less and less capable of Flash support.
    Regards.

  • Probably a stupid question . . . does the iPad come with iTunes preinstalled?

I'm in need ot a portable way to listen to podcasts and type some notes. Due to low vision I cannot use an ipod or iphone.  I have an imac at home.  Does the ipad come with itunes preinstalled, or would I haave to buy it separately.  I know I'd have to purchase another copy if pages, which I have on my imac.

Yes - but the iTunes that comes installed on the iPad is the iTunes Store where you purchase your media. The iPad comes with a preinstalled iPod App and that is where your music library resides and plays on the iPad - not in iTunes.
You don't have to buy either apps for the iPad.

  • Does the iPhone 5 really need a case?

Does the iPhone 5 really need a case? ive been reading articles that says it doesn't, opinions please...

In that case (no pun intended), you may not need one. I agree, it does look and feel better without the case.  I bought a clear case so it still shows off the design, but the problem is the case itself scratches easily.
It's your call. But I would say, if you are not worried about dropping the phone (with AppleCare+, a replacement is only $49 as you may know), you do not absolutely need a case.

Not as a built in app - no it does not. If you need a voice recorder, you will have to download an app from the App Store. An app like Quick Voice Recorder.

  • HT204158 does the ipad smart case have a warranty

Does the iPad smart case have a warranty?

    Heidi,
I purchased a smart case as a gift for a relative, at a local Apple store. In a few months it developed the same problem as your case.  I took it back to the Apple store and was told there was a 1year warranty which  covered manufacturing defects, as long as the product was not abused.  I told them that the glue problem was a Factory defect and I wanted a  replacement, which was granted to me.  Talking to someone face to face does give you more leverage than talking to phone personnel who might be a few thousand miles away.  So, if you have an Apple store in your area, you may get better results there.

  • Why does the iPad make the same noise when it connects to a charger that doesn't charge it as one that will charge it???

Why does the iPad make the same noise when it connects to a charger that doesn't charge it as one that will charge it???
I would expect that it would make an unusual noise if plugged into a generic USB charger that does not have enough oomph to charge a pad to alert you - otherwise, you might think the noise is reassuring that you are actually charging it.

I guess my question was actually more of a comment on the (lack of) design!  It is unusual that something like this would still be in an Apple product.  There are wall chargers that have a USB port on them that do not have the required oomph to charge the iPad.  I have one that has two USB ports, one for my iPhone  (it won't charge an iPad), and one for an iPad with greater amperage rating.  I accidentally used the wrong ones for a while yesterday, but noticed before being "surprised" the next morning by an uncharged iPad.  The iPad is smart enough to say "Not charging" by the battery icon when it is plugges in to one of these, so it "knows" - seems like it would be fairly simply to have the iPad make a different or additional noise  wehn it puts up the "Not charging" text icon.  Failsafe user experience?

You want the newer Lightning to USB Camera Adaptor.

The old Camera Connection Kit also works and I use it on my iPad 4, however, to use this your will need the Lightning to 30 pin adaptor.

Does the iPad air purchased in Hong Kong valid in Canada about the 1 year warranty?

    Hi Courcoul,
Thank you very much for your help!
Here's our situation. We are in the satellite offices, meaning in the trailers, where we have wifi set up. But they will be walking into the construction site often, but I'm not sure if they would need internet connection there...
Now I just spoke with one of the team members who arrived from Japan yesterday WITH their iPad Air, and my manager was impressed with it (hence my manager wanted to have some for his onsite staff).
According to them, they won't be needing internet connection in teh construction zone, but just computer (data input or reference), then when they return to the offices, they will connect with the WiFi.
My dilenmma is that there are TWO version sold in the US:
    1. with Built-in Wi-Fi(802.11a/b/g/n) with MIMO support
    2. with Wi-Fi+Cellure
And he does want the option to insert SIM cards when they return Japan, but doesn't want to sign up with any US carrier...
Does it make sense? Which one should they choose???
    Thank you!
