Does the iPhone 5 have message access profile

Does the iPhone 5 have MAP message access profile?

Not sure; I haven't seen any documentation on it but I assume it would work for the 3GS or higher.  (Doesn't look like this has been updated to include the MAP feature: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3647.)

  • What sort of Wireless Data Security does the iPhone have/use?

During transmission of data, is it encrypted? I'm aware that the BlackBerry Enterprise version uses AES to secure data during transmission. Does the iPhone use this as well, or another standard? If so, is this feature included on all iPhone models/classes? I'm not sure if the iPhone for business is tangibly different than the iPhone sold to non-business individuals/families - or if the AT&T phone plan is the only thing which differs.
Thanks to anyone who addresses my questions regarding security.

Keep in mind that any phone can be set up to get email without any kind of data security. The Blackberry can bet set up to do POP, SMTP, etc. over an un-encrypted link. In these cases there is no AES used.
The BBs encryption is only between the handset and BES or BIS server. Although the BB does encrypt data on the phone, this is only as effective as the PIN - if the phone is unlocked all data is available.
The iPhone defaults to using SSL for encryption of data on the wire, but this can be turned off. The phone does NOT encrypt the data stored on it, but incorrect PIN attempts can wipe the phone if configured that way.
Keep in mind that many of the Benefits of a Blackberry require the BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server) at your organization. Without one, you have no Push email. You have to resort to Blackberry Internet Server (BIS) where you store your credentials on the RIM server and it screen scrapes Outlook Web Access or pulls from POP accounts. You may get AES encryption between handset and server, but you have given up your account credentials to who knows what.

  • Why does the iphone have such a small headphone jack!?

The headphone jack on the iphone is not wide enough for any of my non apple headphones to fit. in fact the official apple cable i have for the ipod video does not even fit... this does not make much sense to me.
also, on a side note, not being able to manually manage songs in itunes is very lame.

    Yeah, slight bummer..
I have a pair of Shure E2c's that wouldn't fit until i took out the ol' razor and carefully trimmed the rubber back about a 1/4" so they would fit. If you can do this without destroying the integrity of the headphone, give it a shot. Or you could purchase an adaptor that works just as well..
I chose the cheap way out.. I already spent $600 for the phone and $100 on the headphones, so I didn't want to spend another $10 for an adaptor.
As far as manually managing music, I really don't see what the big deal is. I created playlists that I want synced and if I want to change something, I simply change it within the playlist and resync.. Does the same.. Don't see a real advantage to manually managing. That's just me though.

  • Does the iPhone have a Cache

I was wondering if you knew how or where iPhone Cache your musical library?
I recently ran into a dilemma regarding my explicit copy of "Ambitionz Az A Ridah" from 2Pac's All Eyez on Me album.  Apparently, iTunes Match has had several issues regarding matching music that is on one's home computer in an explicit version to a clean version on the iTunes Match servers.  Now the my particular problem is that I noticed this and thus turned off iTunes Match on my iPhone.  Proceeded to wipe the Music library off of my iPhone by syncing with out music then individually selecting Playlists from my Laptop iTunes.  I had thought that would solve the problem seeing as my iTunes library has the explicit version; however, much to my dismay the clean version reappeared on my iPhone.
Moreover, I have had issues with sorting and the way my iPhone displays my playlists (i.e. not in the same order as my desktop iTunes) so this has led me to believe that there is some file stored in the inner reaches of iPhone that in order to keep sync times at a minimum looks for "similarities" in what it is that one is syncing and just reverts to a previous version.
Any assistance regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Dan,
Yes the iPhone does have a SIM.
This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1438 will show you how to remove it.

  • For canadians... does the iPhone have to activated in store?

wondering cause it seems at&t is cracking down on it. i don't wanna have to sign up a new plan and have my old cel phone one... wondering if i can use my current account instead of signing up for a new one and just extend my contract term... anyone know what's going on with that?

Rogers and Fido are carrying the phone. I called last night and they couldn't confirm "anything" yet. Since it's so new, I think they're still trying to figure out how much to charge and what to do.
I suspect though, you'll probably have to activate a plan when buying the iphone, there's just no way around it. They might charge for a transfer fee (as in most cases when you buy a new phone with existing plan).
I'm a Telus customer. I'm considering a switch to Rogers because of the phone. But then again, not until I know how much I have to pay up front, I'm going to take the wait-and-see approach.

  • What does the iphone have that the ipod touch doesn't?

i was just wondering what the iphone has that the ipod touch doesn't if there is anything. (Apart from the obvious phone and maybe the camera)

The ipod touch has most of the same functions as the iphone with the exception of the phone, the camera, and the gps (and any features that require those functions). My wife uses one as an ipod, a very nice device, especially if you are normally in range of a wifi network.

  • HT204387 Does any one know if the bluetooth MAP (Message Access Profile) is supported in IOS6 for the Iphone 3GS ?

I have heard that this is now supported and that this will allow me to push the notifications to my BMW and to send SMS through BMW ConnectedDrive.

    Allan,
    Here is the link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1578 (bottom of page)
As stated below support for Bluetooth MAP in 4S and 5 is not the discussion. Is that the page seems outdated.
The issue is whether ios6 supports this feature in the 3 GS.

  • SMS character count? Does the iphone have one?

Is it possible to see a character count for SMS's? i.e. on other phones, as you type, it tells you how many characters you have typed or have left, so you can ensure that you aren't needlessly sending 2 txts instead of 1?

Am I able to import photos from my iPhone to my computer again after I have already imported them once? I can't find a setting to allow me to do this. It will only import new ones.

  • Does the iPhone have a built in loudspeaker?

Like the Sony Walkman 995? I dont mean so you have to plug in headphones, I mean an actual loudspeaker so you can hit play put it on the toilet seat and boogie away whilst in the shower, albeit to a limited quality I appreciate.

The 3G's speaker is a marked improvement to the 1st gen's offering. I've gone through both and the 3G is definitely louder.
In short, yes, it has a loudspeaker, but even with the improvement it's still not as loud say the Blackberry Bold or Sony Walkman phones.

  • Will the iPhone 5 support BT Message Access Profile (MAP)?

Will the iPhone 5 support BT Message Access Profile (MAP)?

According to this article: http://www.macworld.com/article/1167240/ios_6_features_you_might_have_missed.htm l
It does...  I saw a photo of the relevant slide that was put up during the iOS 6 announcement, but am too lazy to look for it now.
It's possible it may not have made it into the final release. Apple never made any statements about it as far as I know beyond the slide referenced.
Near the end of the iOS portion of the keynote, Apple showed a slide listing a host of other features included in the iOS 6 update. Among those were Game Center challenges, the ability to connect Game Center friends from Facebook, VoiceOver improvements, personal dictionary in iCloud (for adding your own terms to the dictionary, which can sync between devices), and per-account signatures in Mail. Also on the list was improved privacy, which—as a new option in Settings—will let you control which apps can access which bits of personal data, like your Contacts, Calendar, or Photos. Other features on the list included autocorrection for every keyboard,Bluetooth MAP support (which is commonly used to help cars better offer hands-free communication with Bluetooth devices), kernel ASLR (which aims to make data even more impervious to snooping from malicious attackers), custom vibrations for alerts, redesigned stores (for the App and iTunes stores), IPv6 support for Wi-Fi and LTE, word highlights for speak selection, improved keyboard layouts, alarms with songs, and faster JavaScript in Safari. Apple also says iOS 6 includes a global HTTP proxy option, which would supplant the current approach, limited as it is to per-connection proxy settings."

  • Does iOS 5 support the Bluetooth Message Access Profile (MAP) for interacting with text messages in Ford Sync?

I'd sure love to take advantage of Ford Sync's ability to read aloud and let me interact with bluetooth text messages by voice.  I had heard rumours that iOS 5 was going to support the Bluetooth Message Access Profile (MAP) like other phone manufacturers, but in my latest update I received while testing and reading other non-Apple sites, that appears not to be the case.
Is this something I'd have to upgrade to the iPhone 4S to otherwise get?
It's not Siri I'm interested in, just this particular feature to allow the phone to interact with my vehicle.  If there's a 3rd party app out there that helps I'm open to that idea too.  Thinking about what my next smart phone's going to be with LTE, and this is weighing in on my decision, lots of enterprise users out there with Ford as their company fleet vehicle too (hint hint!).  A nice way to save lives too for those who refuse to not read/reply to texts while driving (I'm not in that club, but many are).
    Kind Regards,
    Brian

For the public record, here's the feedback I submitted based on Allan's suggestion.  Thank you both, guess I'll just cross my fingers and hope others share their feedback in a positive way to Apple too.
I'd sure love to take advantage of Ford Sync's ability to read aloud and let me interact with bluetooth text messages by voice.  However it requires phones to support the Bluetooth Message Access Profile (MAP) like Android and other phone manufacturers.
Humbly requesting this is something that gets added to a future iOS update.
It's not Siri I'm interested in, just this particular feature to allow the phone to interact with my vehicle by using the vehicles embedded voice and heads-up display commands.
    Advantages:
    (1) Gives one less reason for Apple people to stray to Google
    (2) Saves lives too for those who refuse to not read/reply to texts while driving
    (3) Keeps drivers behaving legally (outside of common sense, many provinces and states have enacted laws to try and protect people against themselves)
    (4) A critical enterprise feature if Apple is attempting to continue to break into that market, most fortune 500 companies that have employees using fleet vehicles use Ford, but frankly other manufacturers coming to market with these features too.
Thanks for consideration around this feature.  If you'd like to understand the use-case more or be pointed to threads in the discussion forum and 3rd party websites begging for this feature, happy to discuss.
    Kind Regards,
    Brian R. Kneebone
