Does the iPhone remember where you left off in podcasts?  What's the latest

The music player in my Nokia phone only remembers where you left off for the last track-- switch tracks or turn off the phone and it returns you to the beginning of the track! It's absolutely annoying and renders the podcast playing feature almost useless.
I've been looking at the iPhone and iPod Touch and found a bunch of threads in the forums that indicate that both have had similar problems (though there are some workarounds).
Has Apple fixed this? Do the iPhone and iPod Touch now remember where you left off for EACH podcast you were listening to?
It would be wonderful if that were the case and might stop my fence sitting on buying one!

I've had my iPhone for several months and this is the most aggravating issue. Before finding this thread I had no idea why or when it would lose it's place. If it's only happening when you synch that's good to know, but not much of a work-around.
Where the iPhone had my old iPod beat was the fact that my podcasts were always magically up to date. This is because the iPhone is always getting plugged in to charge and synch while the iPod stayed in the car all week.
I hope someone will post back with more details for work-arounds.
Better yet, I hope Apple fixes this bug. AND, makes navigating within long audio files (i.e. podcasts) as elegant as it was on my old clickwheel iPod.

  • Is there a way to get Aperture to remember where you left off?

I find it a pain that even when switching between projects, Aperture always jumps back to the first image in a project.
Is there a way to get Aperture to remember where you left off? (plist setting?)

Do you create a new tab when you open a new project or album? Hold down the Cmnd key as you click on a project or album, you get a new tab in the browser. Aperture remembers where you were in each tab.

  • How do I make Mac remember where I left off a TV Show on my Apple TV?

I have Lion OS and iOS5 on my iDevices. Still when I watch a TV show from my Apple TV, and then resume on my Mac, the Mac doesn't know where I left off the TV show. Nor does Mac mark a TV show as watched if I have already seen it on Apple TV.
Is there a way to remember where I left off in a TV show across devices?

I'd think ..... it will by default remember the playback poition on my Mac anyway. Or am I missing something?
That's not generally what happens when you open most other documents, by default you are taken back to the begriming or first page, obviously it's something you might want to do with a movie so iTunes includes this option (although yes it's set by default). many other movie applications don't remember where you left off.
    >>> OK, but just to be sure, Apple is not really leveraging iCloud in this case, which is unfortunate (See more below).
Second, does it mean that if I download the TV Show on iPad, it will remember the position there as well? Or will it start from the beginning only?
If you stream the movie from the iTunes Library on your mac to your iPad it will remember the position,
    >> How does one "stream" a movie from Mac to iPad? Streaming is only done to an Apple TV as far as I know
but if you play it from a file on the iPad (i.e. downloaded or synced) then it's essentially another file on another device and that device will have no idea where you left off in another file on your mac.
    >> Ok for the downloaded case. But in the case of synced, actually it does remember where I left off, doesn't it?
    >> What I am a bit baffled by is why Apple couldn't sync media playback position via iCloud. So, I watch a TV show on my Mac (or Apple TV), and it just syncs playback position periodically to iCloud and then to all devices, so that I can pick up on any device. Say I am leaving the house and now want to switch to iPad from Apple TV, iPad will remember where I left off.

  • How can I make Adobe Reader Touch remember where I left off?

When I have closed a PDF, how can I make Adobe Reader Touch remember where I left off?

    Hi,
Assuming that you have Reader 9.3.4 already installed on your machine, you can try the following to make Reader 9.3.4 as the default PDF opening application:
    1. Right click on any PDF on your system and click on the "Open With" Option in the context menu that appears. In case you get another submenu, click on Chose Program in that menu. (In case you do not see any "Open With" option, then hold down the Shift key and right click on the file)
    2. Click on Browse button in the dialog that appears, and select Reader 9. Make sure that you select the checkbox for "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"
    3. Click on OK.
This will make Adobe Reader 9 as the default viewer for all PDFs on your system.

  • [Subscription] Mark where you left off in a big playlist

I listen to a lot of big playlists between home, work and my car to find new music for my own playlists and I'll methodically listen to each song in order so that I don't lose my spot and listen to songs I've already been through.  So right now, I write down on a notepad what song I'm currently on so I can start at that spot when I change where I'm listening.  It'd be nice for Premium members if we could just mark our spot in a playlist so we can continue where we left off.

Updated: 2015-07-08Hi and thanks for your contribution! A similar idea has also been suggested here:

  • Pick up where you left off with iMessage on handoff

Okay so you know how with Mail you can start an email and then finish it on a Mac with handoff, well I was wondering if anyone knows how to (if it's possible) to do the same thing with iMessage. Atm I can start a text on my iPhone and it pops up in bottom left corner of my mac dock but there is no text in the message bar to "continue" from, so basically it doesn't allow continuity for this app.
    Help

I'm having this exact issue. I don't get why handoff is so buggy.

  • Playlist: How does your ipod remember where you are?

You have a long playlist. You want to pause and have it resume a few days later. How do you deal with this ipod dilemma? Usually I click on the ipod every day, to refresh it, if you will. But just now, with my new nano, I attached the cord to charge-- just for an hour -- and ejected and it was not paused to my last song. very annoying. Gone, had to search for where it was.

I don't know what you mean by "click the iPod". I do know that navigating away from the playlist, and, if I recall, syncing, will lose your place.

  • I have Ipod nano 3rd generation that I use to listen to audiobooks in my car.  I turn the ipod off when I get out of the car and when I restart the ipod, it doesn't start where I left off.  Any suggestions

I recently received an Ipod nano 3rd generation, which I use to listen to audiobook in my car.  Every time I leave the car, I stop the Ipod and take it with me.  When I return to the car and start up the Ipod, it does not pick up where I left off in the book.  Any suggestions?

It could be that the CD player will only playback "Redbook" CD's from the previous position.
And starts mp3 type CD's from the beginnig.
    However.. it's not Logic related.

  • Zen Xtra no longer remembers where I left off in a tr

    Hi,
I downloaded and installed the most recent drivers and firmware for my Zen Xtra, and now it doesn't remember where I left off in a track. I listen to long audiobooks in my car so this is very important.
I used to be able to power down and then when I came back to my car I could just turn it back on and pick up where I left off. Now it always goes back to where I left off many sessions ago, no matter how much I have played since then. In one particular audio book it always goes back to 2:59:0 or something, which is where I left off many many sessions ago.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    chris.

Both my 1st and 3rd generation models still work with resume, as does my 2nd generation models.
You are not on your own though, as others have reported similar issues. As yet I haven't seen a solution, but wonder what happens if you hold down the centre button and mark the movie as watched or unwatched and then try again.

  • How to play podcasts in order, and how to pick up where I left off?

I have several music podcasts I listen to. I made Smart playlists for each, so the podcasts show up in Playlists. Two questions: How do I play them in order? And, after I pause after listening to one, how do I continue listening when I wish? With the previous generation (the one with video capabilities), I could highlight the Smart playlist in Playlists and click the "play" button...all podcasts would play in order. If I switched away from the podcast and listened to the radio or even a different podcast, my Nano would remember where I left off. I love the new Nano and its tiny size, but the podcast thing is driving me batty. Thank you for your help.

Okay, I'm a dork. I accidentally swiped my volume screen this morning, and discovered the answers to all of my questions.

  • Song starts where it left off

This is SO annoying... I listen to a song and then change it half way through, come back to it two weeks later and I'm listening to the last 5 seconds of a song. is there a way to change this?

Normally the iPod function on the phone is set to start the track exactly where you left off, but you want to make it so it starts at the beginning again. Go to Settings and down to iPod. Go to the video section and select Start Playing. From here you can check From Beginning instead of Where Left Off.
You can also do this in itunes for one song or all of your songs:
If it is just only one song right click that song in itunes and select get info.
Then go to the options tab and click to remember playback position or not.If you want to change all of your songs, then press CTRL+A then right click get info then choose yes then do the rest of the steps and you're done.

  • Is it possible to have an audio book being read from an ipod nano - 6th generation - to pick up where it left off?

I just downloaded "Audible" so that I could listen to audio books on my 6th generation nano. When I shut off the ipod in the middle of a chapter and turn it back on, the book picks up at the start of the chapter. Is there a way to pick up where I left off?

They should automatically pick up right where you left off. I'm not sure what you mean that you just downloaded Audible.
Sync the audiobooks to the iPod and listen to them there by tapping  the audiobooks icon on your Nano

  • Deleting in Lion OS - How to pick up where I left off?

Not sure if many of you are familiar with this.
In Snow Leopard, say if you are browsing a large selection of files or images, and as your hit the "down" arrow key, you come across a file you want to delete. You then cmd-del and it's gone, the next file is then highlighted, and u can continue hitting the arrow key to continue browsing from where you left off.
In Lion, I noticed once I delete a file, it doesn't select the next file, so when I hit the "down" arrow, it starts right from the top!!!
It's actually quite annoying...anyone know if there's a solution or alternative approach?

    Anyone? Someone? No One? =(

  • How can I bookmark, in iTunes, so that the songs I play and then stop in middle of song then come back later - it will start where I left off.  What is the switch in iTunes to make this happen?  Thank You

In iTunes I would like to set it to bookmark where I am holding in a song on my iPOD.  Let's say I want to play a song that I listen to yesterday and stopped playing it in the middle on my iPOD.  Today, I want to listen, on my iPOD, to the same song and have it start playing where I left off yesterday.
Can someone please tell me what I have to do in iTUNES to have this feature on my iPOD?
    Thank You
    Dovid

iTunes does not have provision for automatically storing one kind of media on a separate drive, so you have some basic decisions to make first.  Do you want these movies to still appear in your iTunes library, or are you content with browsing filenames on a drive in Finder when you want to look for one?  The second's the easiest thing because then you don't have to have an external drive permanently turned on and attached to your computer (wired or wireless).  To do that you literelly only need to drag your movies folder to an archive drive and delete movies from iTunes.  To watch them again you can add it back to iTunes while holding down the option key so the movie is used from its location on the external drive.
There's ways to move the movies to an external drive while keeping them in iTunes but the external drive iwll always have to be turned on and connected to the computer or you will see a bunch of broken link exclamation marks.
Realize what you are talking about is not "backup".  Backup (which you should do) is putting a second or more copy of items on external drives for the day when your internal drive fails and everything on it is lost, inclduing all your home photos and perhaps things that have been pulled from the iTunes Store and can no longer be re-downloaded.

  • If I'm reading a book on the iPhone and I want to pick up where I left off on my iPad, do I have to search for what page I was on on the iPad or is there a way to sync it?

If I'm reading a book on the iPhone and I want to pick up where I left off on my iPad, do I have to search for what page I was on on the iPad or is there a way to sync it? Or do I just have to search for a string of text from my iPhone on my iPad?

On both devices go to Settings>iBooks>Sync Bookmarks>On. Then when you want to quit reading on one device, tap the bookmark in the upper right corner and it will turn red. That marks your place. Close the book on the device now by tapping on the Library button in the upper left corner of the app. That will put the closed book back on the shelf. Tap the home button.
On the other device, when you tap on the book, it should open to that page. You have to be connected to WiFi in order for this to work. You can read this older discussion for more information. I was involved in that as well.
