Does the iTunes home sharing limit of 5 apply to iPads?

I have one PC and 6 iPads in my home.  I have managed to get iTunes Home Sharing working with the PC and 5 of the 6 iPads.  Any suggestions as to how to get it working on the 6th?  I do have another PC that I can add to the mix... I would love to make sure I can use the same Apple ID though.  Thanks in advance for any ideas!

The page that you posted from applies to computers only, iOS devices (iPhones, iPads, iPod Touches) aren't authorised - so at any one time you can have your account authorised on up to 5 computers.

  • How to properly embed album art work into TV/Films itunes: home sharing lag

My setup is a simple apple home sharing network.
I have a mac mini running OS X 10.6.8 and itunes 11.0.4(4) it hosts a lot of music, DVD's that have been re-encoded and paid for content from itunes.
The mac mini is conntected to the network over a very good gigbit lan and has 4 apple TV3 (latest gen) hanging off the network, and multiple PC/Mac/ipod/ipad devices hanging off the network.
I connect to the itunes home sharing service with the apple TV service using the "remote" application on the ipad.
When I select Music/Albums TV Shows or Films from the menu of the itunes library the album art work loads (quickly) over the grey boxes as I scroll down. However this takes a few seconds for each "scroll" I do on the ipad (it has thousands of items in there).
The exception to the rule is any paid content, when I open Music/TV/Films menu on the ipad the paid content (especially for TV and Films) the artwork is already there, and doesn't have to load it.
How is the artwork for paid content contained differently than the artwork for content I've manually put into the itunes library.
If I look at the itunes library locally on the machine hosting the itunes data, the artwork is there straightaway, no loading, pull up the items info with "get info" and click on art work, the artwork is there, and I can see no different in the art work settings for paid content or for content I've manually updated/loaded an image for.
So why/how does the paid for content have artwork on the ipad the exact second I open it over the network, yet the non-paid for content take a few seconds per screen to load it.
Is there something different in how the art work is embeeded, or is it a caching setting ? whats the difference.

    Dang You Autocorrect.
You don't saw what size and resolution the embedded artwork is. This could be part of the issue. Artwork on movies you purchase from the iTunes Store is 667x1000 at 72 DPI so if yours is larger than this is could be causing the delay.

  • ITune home sharing stops working if I enalbe WIFI sync for my iPad

I am using iTune 11.2.0.115 (64bit) on win 7 fully updated to May 28, 2014 win-updates.  After upgrading to latest itune 11.2.0.115,  I have noticed when I enable "Sync over WIFI" in my iTune for my iPad or iPhone,  the iTune home sharing icon just disappers from left side panel and will not share no matter what steps I take.  I have read and followed all the steps for trouble shooting home-sharing for itune.  Such as re-install, disable ip6 etc...
I share my media out of a win 7 and I have another win 7, Mac, apple TV, ipad and iphone which they do not see my main libirary until I un-check the sync over wifi.  However Mac and the Other win 7 can see each other's shared library.
I can re-produce this problem each and every time.
    thx

  • Why can't Apple TV's and iOS devices see home sharing on my Windows 7 computer when iTunes libraries on other computers on the same network and connected to the same Home Sharing can?

I have never previously had any problems with Home Sharing, I have always found it to be completely reliable as advertised. I have 2 computers in the house, (one MacBook and one Windows Desktop) connected to the same Home Sharing account, connected to the same BT Home Hub 4. My situation is that I have nearly 2TB of data of which I would like to share with the home wirelessly, in my mind the desktop is the logical place for this to be shared from.
When running, iTunes on this desktop broadcasts to other iTunes libraries, but no other iOS devices or Apple TV's connected to the same Home Sharing account cannot see it.
I have tried turning Home Sharing off, and then turning it back on, closing iTunes, restarting the computer, going to Network and Sharing Centre and unticking IPv6 in the network adapter properties, even completely wiping the computer and reinstalling Windows 7.
One of the Apple TV's in the house was recently purchased by my parents with the promise from me that everything would work seamlessly... so far it isn't and I am frustrated that the Apple technology that I have come to rely on isn't working as expected.
One thing that has occurred to me upon writing this is that it is a very large amount of data, and I have not attempted to share this with another computer that is currently working and broadcasting it's Home Share fine.
I am sorry if I have ommitted any important details, any further questions don't hesitate to ask. I would be so grateful of any suggestions, my parents are depending on me.

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem.  The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6.  (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!

  • HT4363 I just purchased an Apple TV MD199LL/A, got it connected to my internet.  I can go to Youtube and watch videos.  I'm able to access Netflix.  All seems well except I cannot connect to my iTunes account.  I have gone through the list - home sharing

I just purchased an Apple TV MD199LL/A, got it connected to my internet.  I can go to Youtube and watch videos.  I'm able to access Netflix.  All seems well except I cannot connect to my iTunes account.  I have gone through the list - home sharing is set correctly on both iTunes and my Apple TV.  The userid is correct on both.
Message "Loading prodrigu's library" and then "Could not connect to prodrigu's library".
I had this same problem when I installed the REMOTE application on my ipad.  Everything on the list was affirmative, but had the same problem not being able to connect to my iTunes.
What is missing?  Is there a firewall setting that could be causing this?

I don't mean to be facetious but sometimes the simplest things are overlooked.  To connect to your library you have to have the computer where the iTunes library is located running and with iTunes open.  It also needs to be on the same network.  My network is dual band and works with either stream but a friend of mine does not.  He has to set the computer and the Apple TV to the same band.  Hope this helps.

When I try to turn on Home Sharing, I get the message: "Home Sharing could not be turned on because of an error (5506)." What does this mean please?!

I had the same error it was due to a program called Little Snitch, it's somewhat like a firewall.  I changed the settings in Little Snitch to allow network connections in iTunes and now I can enable Home Sharing.  Maybe you should try changing some firewall settings.

  • HT202213 I have a new computer we set up with itunes home sharing. Can I add music to this new computer sync my iphone and ipod to it instead of the original computer. I'm not sure if it makes a difference if I have a different apple id than with our orig

I have a new computer that we set up with itunes home sharing and I need some assistance. I also have my own apple id and would like to make the new computer the one I use for my music. Should I set up a whole new itunes library/account or still work with the home sharing?

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
    As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I do not think it included audio books.

  • HT4363 Have content of iTunes on both Appletvs but can only play on one.  Tv menu won't let me choose both locations.  How do I correct this?  ITunes Home Sharing is on.  Multiple Airplay is on from the iTunes menu, too.

If you have all your music on the cmputer then i would connect up my phone uncheck the Sync Music option and apply.
This should take all the music off your phone .Then you can resync the music back on to it.
If this doesn't work maybe a restore to factory settings and start from scratch is the way to go

  • Can't find Apple TV Sync Menu; No ATV in iTunes, Home Sharing works

OK,  I'm about to give up...  My computer shows up in Apple TV (2nd Gen) in the ATV home sharing computer list but I am unable to find any reference to a sync menu or any options to force the sync to occur.   I find references here in the support community to ATV showing up in iTunes.   I can't find that anywhere.   My firewall is off.  I am using a Time Machine as my wireless router.
I've seen screen shots of a tabbed window explaining how to set up "sync" but I've never seen that window before.   (see this link
http://web.mac.com/gartside1104/ATV/SyncvStream.html  ).   Is this an ATV1 / ATV2 / iTunes / Windows only feature?.   I'm running OS 10.6.8 with latest updates, latest version of iTunes.  Just updated the Apple TV software.    I never see more than one library from my network at a time in ATV.  I can directly connect to any computer to share via home sharing but I can't select a library to stream from in ATV (ATV1 feature only?)   I can stream to the ATV from any network computer's shared iTunes library.
Just baffled here...     Lots of hints but no answers.
My primary purpose was to limit the playlists in iTunes that will show up in ATV.   The iTunes preferences for sharing on my local network successfully limit my sharing to specific playlists to other computers on the network, but ATV provides access to ALL playlists.  Does home sharing use a different playlist selector than network sharing?
I set out to drain the swamp but am just wrestling with alligators.

My computer shows up in Apple TV (2nd Gen) in the ATV home sharing computer list but I am unable to find any reference to a sync menu or any options to force the sync to occur.
The Apple TV2 doesn't sync, it's a streaming only device.
I find references here in the support community to ATV showing up in iTunes.
Only the Apple TV 1 shows up under the Devices list in iTunes.
I've seen screen shots of a tabbed window explaining how to set up "sync" but I've never seen that window before.   (see this link
    http://web.mac.com/gartside1104/ATV/SyncvStream.html  ).   Is this an ATV1 / ATV2 / iTunes / Windows only feature?.
Yes that's only for the Apple TV 1
I never see more than one library from my network at a time in ATV.
Are you using the same details for homesharing on each computer.
I can directly connect to any computer to share via home sharing but I can't select a library to stream from in ATV (ATV1 feature only?)
Sorry I don't understand that, could you explain please.
I can stream to the ATV from any network computer's shared iTunes library.
    That sounds correct.
but ATV provides access to ALL playlists.
Yes unfortunately their is no way to restrict content that can be seen by the Apple TV2

  • Issues with iTunes Home Sharing using iPhone 6 Plus

    Hi guys,
I'm having problems with streaming music and video on my iPhone 6 plus from my Macbook Pro (mid 2010 model) using iTunes' Home Sharing . I am able to stream without any issues using my iPhone 4S and my Apple TV, however.
I am using iTunes version 12.0.1.26, iOS 8.1.2, and OSX 10.9.5.
Using my 6 plus, I am able to connect to my iTunes library, both music and video. Album art shows up for music but no cover art for the videos. So, all in all, I am able to see the contents of my library.
However, when I try to play songs, a couple things may happen. First, nothing plays for about 10 seconds; then a second or two of the song plays followed by silence again, appearing as if it's buffering. Second thing that may happen is that a second or two plays immediately followed by silence. If I press next to play the next song, what usually happens is that nothing plays, although the song title does appear.
As seen in this video, I don't have any issues with my WIFI connection or internet speed, as demonstrated using the iPhone 4S and Apple TV.
I have no clue as to why this is happening.
Hopefully someone could shed some light with this issue. Please feel free to comment. I'm open to and appreciate any suggestions while Apple tries to find a solution. Thanks.

    UPDATE
So, after working with the guys at Apple, they were able to provide a solution.  Now I have no problems using Home Sharing with my iPhone 6 Plus!!!
(I should add that I have the Linksys Advanced Dual-Band N Router (E2500))
The issue was fixed by giving one of the wi-fi channels a different name, thus splitting the channels into 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.  Then, I connected my iPhone to one channel (2.4 GHz) and my MacBook Pro to the other channel (5GHz).  In this configuration, I have had no issues streaming my music and video.
It seems that the problem is some kind of interference between both devices when using the same channel (i.e., when both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channel share the same name).

iTunes: Home sharing can't be activated due to an error (5506). Who can help?
I have an Apple ID but for some reason iTunes does not recognizes it.
I have downloaded the latest version of iTunes as well?

Did you ever figure it out? I am new to itunes and it won't allow me to home share with my daughter because I don't have a credit card.

  • ITunes Home Sharing No Longer Working Under Lion

Home Sharing is no longer working between Lion and my Apple TV or iPhone. I am able to watch Netflix through my Apple TV (2nd Gen) so I do have connectivity. I have restarted both devices, and updated iTunes to 10.4. Under "Advanced" in iTunes, Home Sharing is turned on. In Preferences in iTunes under Sharing, it says Status: On, no users connected, even though my Apple TV is connected to the network.
Is this problem isolated, or are others experiencing the same issue?

I'm up and running. Spoke with Apple and they had me go to : preferences, network and create a new location. That seems to have reset something. I had to reset all my devices back to my main network that had stopped working. The guest network will not let Home Sharing work, only the main network.
Others have been able to use Home Sharing without clicking "Done" after typing in their password. After you click "Done" the Shared disappears in iTunes.
    Apple help people were GREAT!

  • ITunes Home sharing unavailable in Mountain Lion

iTunes Home sharing isn't working in ML. Mac Pro 2x2.93 quad core (3.2009) and Mac Mini (12.2009).
On Mac pro I don't see the Mini Library on the left, on Mini I see the Pro Library but is impossible to see the content. I had no problems with Lion. I don't have problems with AppleTV. Thanks

I found in this forum that the update of router firmware would resolve the problem. It's right. Thankyou.

I am not seeing the "items not in my Library" or the import button, in itunes home sharing, but I see all the files on the other computer, and I can play them. I don't understand why it is not there.
    Thanks

i'm having the same problem with home sharing of songs from my aluminum macbook, running itunes v9.2.1(4) in snow leopard v10.6.4, to my windows pc, running itunes v9.2.1.5 in windows xp professional sp3.
in my case the sharing has worked perfectly before and works fine with songs from the pc to the mac and songs from the mac that are already in the pc's library. so only songs not in the pc's library seem to be affected.
the error message tells me to check my internet connection, which also seems to working fine.
