Does the last updated backup in Time Machine have all my files for "standard" file copy? (i want to copy and paste files to another computer that doesn't have TM)
My personal Macbook pro died, but I did have a Time Machine backup. I have a new iMac that I would like to use as a family computer. I would like to transfer some files to the new computer (and set-up a new Time Machine backup), but archive the remainder on a non-TM drive. I was planning to:
1. File copy my last backup folder from my old TM drive to the new computer
2. Copy (and then delete) the files I want to archive on another HD drive
3. Wipe clean my current TM drive
4. Set-up TM on my new computer
Is this a good way to proceed?
Is copying the last backup folder (vs. all backup folders) enough to move my files over?
Any better approaches appreciated!
I suggest you visit MicroCenter and go to there Apple section and ask one of there guys if they are still offering the 2 terabyte Backup For the iMac, Mine was only $100.00.
So the iMac has Time machine plus the USB 2 Terabyte Backup for less than your $130.00

Time Machine will not let me restore from backups after June, 2013. I can see the files on the external hard drive but Time Machine skips all of them and goes back to June, 2013. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is?

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

I am unable to empty my trash w/o getting an 8003 error.Some of what is in the trash is BackUp from Time Machine. I have tried to Secure Empty and also Unlocking folders yet the error continues. There is over 300gb that I need to trash. MacPro 10.6.8

the last update on my apple tv has been going on for like a week and i can't stop it even if i unplug it. it shows a pic of the tv connecting to iTunes, what do i do?
If ATV is unplugged and you are still seeing an image that is not coming from ATV.
If the update failed then you will need to connect ATV to a computer with iTunes via a USB cable and restore the software from iTunes. -
My computer crashed with all my itunes files. I was able to get some off and transfer them to another computer. I am afraid to sync my ipod to the new computer becaused I do not want to loose all of my playlists and other music. Will this happen?
To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
Delete the "songs" that do not play in your iTunes library and reimport them. -

It wont fix your problem, but may tell help troubleshoot, why it is freezing iTunes, especially when the Pending and Realloc numbers are high.

My daughter accidentally reset her ipod4 to factory settings so I restored from the last iCloud backup. All her photos were on camera roll so I believe they should have automatically been backed up, but none have been restored. Why?
When she plugged in the ipod last night it backed up again so that now shows as the latest backup. No previous backups are listed so I do not seem to have the option to rerun the old one. She had many pictures on the camera roll taken from well before July. I can only presume that the backup in July must have been incomplete - but then I didn't think it was supposed to list as an option to restore from. Luckily many of the photos had been backed up on the pc but I am very frustrated as to why the icloud backup didn't protect them. Thank you for your advice though, I appreciate it.

My new iMac does not see my last iMac backup in Time Machine
I just got a new iMac and I wanted to get my files from the time machine back up of my old iMac. Migration assistant did not see my iMac backup. It sees my Macbook backups, but not my iMac. My old iMac was running Yosemite Beta and the new one runs 10.9.5. Is the OS difference the issue?
Since it's a new machine, contact Apple's Support and let them deal with the problem. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you might be eligible for an onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine (depends on where you're located). BTW, the AppleCare Protection Plan's the best warranty policy available for desktop machines. Get it if you don't have it before contacting Apple.

For the past year I've been using an external hard drive (HD1) connected to my airport extreme as the back-up location for time machine. This has worked fine without any issues. What I would like to do now is to move my itunes and iphoto libraries off of my laptop (space constraints) and store them on a second external hard drive (HD2) connected to the airport extreme. I have successfully connected the second hard drive using a Belkin powered USB hub. What I am wondering is if I direct my time machine back-ups to HD1 will it back-up both my mac HD as well as HD2? I apologize if this has already been answered but i've read conflicting responses on various message boards and a number of responses were dated so I wanted to make sure I received the latest information.

That may be true, but you need to know that backing-up that way is unreliable and not supported by Apple. See: Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk. Do not be surprised if those backups suddenly turn up corrupted.

No. Time Machine cannot back up from any network location. The 3rd-party utilities CarbonCopyCloner and ChronoSync may be workable alternatives. -
Does the TRASH folder go into Time Machine?
So i've been able to backup time machine the first few times, but after that it says "the backup is too large for the backup volume". I have one folder "excluded" where i add and delete very large files (sometimes up to GBs).
I'm wondering if i delete these huge files and they go to the TRASH and then I immediately empty the trash...Do they get included into my time machine backup? Could that be what maybe causing the large size error? If so, where is the trash folder so that i can exclude it? Thanks.Above was good tip. The message references PID 6192 and says Aero is incompatible with certain visual elements in the previous update. I didn't let it update to the most recent version today because I didn't see my problem addressed and I don't want more issues. I know have an ice blue bar at the top and bottom of my online screen as well as running behind the icons on the bottom of the desktop. I am strictly a computer "user." Help! :-/

Why does restoring a Hard Drive from Time Machine break all my software registration?
I've just upgraded the hard drive in my MacBook Pro using a Time Machine backup. (In the past I've used Carbon Copy cloner to duplicate the drive before installing it, but this seemed like an easier option.) The restore from TM went fine... but now all my apps are acting as if I've just installed them for the first time. Mail and Dropbox went thru their first time startup screens, and are reimporting all my files/messages. Word and Photoshop are asking for the registration serial numbers. What a hassle!
Does anyone know what Time Machine is doing, and why? Why aren't my apps fully restored? And is there any workaround?I imagine it is because of the way CCC does makes an exact clone of your drive.
Time Machine restores the drive file-by-file and doesn't necessarily restore support files. Most apps know when they've been moved and ask for serial numbers.
However, I have never restored a complete hard drive with Time Machine, so I don't know exactly what to expect.
