Does the MacBook Air have a slot for a lock?

My current MacBook has a slot in which I can insert a lock to protect the computer in a public location (a library, for example).
Does the MacBook Air have the same slot?
Thanks.

Unfortunately the MBA is too thin for the Kensington lock. I've seen a couple solutions but they aren't inexpensive. I've seen this one and some of these. I recommend Prey for after the fact.

I don't know what service options are available in India but if this helps I do know that once you purchase your Apple product the warranty is valid anywhere in the world.

  • Does the MacBook Air re-install drive for Mac OS (2011) re-format hard drive as well?

Hello, my computer failed yesterday due to a Nbidia graphics card DOWNgrade, so I was wondering if the MacBook air re-install drive erase everything from your hard drive when you re-install it? Thanks!

Yes, it certainly does have the tools to reformat the drive if desired. You can also reinstall the OS without reformatting, if you think the remedy of a simple "repair installation" is all that is necessary.

  • Does the Macbook Air Have a Fan ?

    hate laptop fans
assumed that the air was a fanless setup and then saw something that changed my thinking
does the 13" air (october 2010) come with a fan ?

    right, yes ...
i am a little obsessive about fan noise, it drives me nuts
i have had apple laptops and they tend to be state of the art when it comes to running quiet (my imac is virtually silent)
i recently bought and returned a dell vostro v130 which uses hyperbaric cooling and which also runs nearly silent (i returned it because i just couldn't learn to live with windows 7)
i assumed because of the size of the air and the weight and the fact that it uses an ssd that it would be passively cooled but the core duo won't allow that i guess
i owned a dell mini 9 which IS passively cooled by a large heatsink and doesn't have a fan ... it ran an intel atom processor which is a very different processor from the core duo (slower and cooler)
the new google chromebooks are passively cooled i think but again use very low power processors
as you say joeyr, once you put any kind of power in a laptop i guess you need a fan ...

  • Does the macbook pro have an equalizer for streaming pandora

I'm new to the world of Macbook's and was wanting to know if there was an equalizer or some sound settings I could use when I am listening to Pandora radio?

I found these instructions in German for a system wide EQ on your Mac: http://www.maclife.de/mac/software/betriebssystem/os-x-systemweiten-equalizer-ei nrichten-und-verwenden
If you don't understand German and online translation tools don't do the job, this is the short version*:
    You download two programs:
    - An open source program called soundflower (can be found on google code)
    - Apple's AU Lab (can be downloaded here after creating a free developer's account)
After installing soundflower (reboot required), go to your system preferences -> sound. Under 'Output' select Soundflower (2ch). This routes all system sounds through soundflower.
Next install AU Lab. Turn the system volume up to max, then open AU Lab. In the window that opens, under 'Factory Configurations' select 'Stereo In/Stereo Out'. Under 'Input Settings' you select 'Soundflower (2ch)', under 'Output Settings' you select Built-in Output. This makes all sounds from Soundflower go through AU Lab, and then send them back to your system output.
Click 'Create Document', the window will close and a new window with some controls will appear. Under 'Audio 1' select 'Effects' -> 'Apple' -> 'AUGraphicEQ'. Adjust as you wish. Save the settings somewhere.
You can reopen these settings by going to preferences in AU Lab, under 'Documents'.
IMPORTANT: If you close AU Lab now, your system will remain silent. This can be changed by simply selecting your original audio output in the system preferences for sound.
*Finally, the disclaimer: I take no responsibility for any damage you may occur upon following these instructions. I simply made a short version of the instructions in German that are linked above. It's not my idea, and I do not fully understand everything here either, but I use it and it's great for stuff like spotify. Not sure if this is the solution to your BT problem. For everyone else that does not have or want Boom, this works well.

  • Does the MacBook Air 2012 supports SDXC Cards?

Does the MacBook Air 2012 supports SDXC Cards?
    Thx

Hi! How are you? The reason why I'm here is to find out more about SDXC support/compatibility info on the macbook air 2012 and how to fix this nagging issue if it's fixable.
I had just bought a Sandisk extreme pro 64GB rated at 95mb/s for my Nikon DSLR. Unfortunately, MBA struggles to detect or mount my card, after a few sweats, it would mount, but then very slow to process and preview the images as "Thumbnail preview". Then, after a few more sweats, you can scroll through the thumbnails smoothly.
Streaming HD videos straight from the SD Slot is butcher chopping the beef. Video lags, stutters, chops, in otherwords, USELESS and a pain in the neck. So you just want to copy all the files to your macbook, and play from there. Copying files from SDXC to my macbook takes forever; writing is also another issue that take much more than forever!
I have a top of the line macbook air 2012 (i7, 8GB, 512) and I always thought it's a versatile reliable computer but now I'm very disappointed. On the other hand, doing the same things on my macbook pro 2010 is seamless. I also tested on my windows 8 desktop to be flawless as well.
Therefore, the memory card is not the problem. It's macbook air's sd slot that's a failure. I never thought spending $2,199 for a super computer would make me stress like this. In addition, the magsafe 2 is another failure in design. It always disconnects just by moving my macbook air from one spot of the table to another. Having it charged while on my lap gets on my nerves when it keeps getting disconnected! I hate Apple for doing this. If only there was a Windows notebook that surpasses Apple's design, I would never EVER buy Apple products EVER again.

  • Does my macbook air have a built in virus scan?  how can I access and use it? also any recommendations of what software if this is not avail ?

does my macbook air have a built in virus scan?  how can I access and use it? also any recommendations of what software if this is not avail ?

Contrary to what Geeks on Hugs is telling you, Mac OS X does indeed have a basic malware scanner. It is not a feature that is directly accessible to the user, and works a bit differently than every other malware scanner out there. Gatekeeper, which has been mentioned here, is entirely separate, and provides a different method for helping to protect you against malware.
The anti-malware scanner in Mac OS X is called XProtect. When you download an application (or any other kind of executable code), it is automatically "quarantined," so that when you open it you're asked if you really want to do that. I'm sure you're very familiar with this aspect of Mac OS X if you have ever downloaded any apps from outside the App Store. What you don't know, though, is that each time you try to open a new app, that app is checked by XProtect. If it is identified as malware, you will not be allowed to open it, and will be warned that it's malware.
At this time, there is no known malware that can infect a properly up-to-date Mac. All current malware will be blocked by one or more methods.
For more information, see my Mac Malware Guide.

  • Does the Macbook Pro have a program to run Windows? If not, what is the best program to do so?

Does the Macbook Pro have a program to run Windows built in? If not, what is the best program to do so. Purchasing a new Mac.

No. The Mac does not have anything to run Windows
You must install either virtualizrion software or use BootCamp to create a partition for Windows. Once you have done that then you must install Windows.

  • Does the macbook air get hot from use?

I am considering purchasing a Macbook Air.  I have had problems with notebook PC's in the past getting very hot.
Does the Macbook Air get hot from use?

Yes, well, virtually every computer has a fan in it; many fail their mission.
Now that you mention it, I saw no grill or mesh anywhere when I looked at the MBA at the Apple Store.  Is it where the lid meets the body?  I didn't see speakers, either, although I heard music.

Does the macbook pro have a built-in dvd player?

This is the only new MBP you can purchase with an integral DVD drive at this time:

A retina MBP will require an external DVD drive.
    Ciao.
