Does the N85 have a standalone GPS or AGPS

Hi,
I'm considering buying a N85. Only questions that remains unanswered is: Does the N85 have a standalone GPS or AGPS? I prefer the former since I visit countries that have very limited network service.
Does anyone know the answer. The site or user manual doesn't provide the answer.
Thanks
D

Exactly. If a device has A-GPS then it also has straight-up GPS. All you have to do is deactivate A-GPS in the positioning methods to use and select only GPS, and you will no longer need network coverage.

    They mean what they say.
Just because the phone supports the Java API for 3D doesn't mean that it has 3D HW acceleration.
Most phones support this API, but only a handful have 3D Hardware acceleration.
N96 and N85 DO NOT have 3D Hardware acceleration yet they can still run Java games that are 3D (like global racer) or other 3D games (like Asphalt3) just the 3D performance is not great.
    Right.
OpenGL ES 3D graphics APIs with software rendering has been in S60/Symbian since the 6630 (S60 2nd Edition, Feature Pack 2) without 3D hardware acceleration. The same OpenGL ES functionality (still software rendered on devices without 3D hardware) has also been exposed to Java applications.
Only on those devices with 3D hardware, is the hw used, instead of sw rendering (for applications the APIs, Application Programming Interfaces, stay the same). However the OpenGL ES software rendering is not very fast, so any software-based 3D application has to do a lot of compromises if they use OpenGL ES on non-accelerated hardware, or they have to use a custom - or licensed - 3D library that is highly optimized or can be tuned to different hardware more easily.

  • Does the playbook have a working GPS or not ?

Some reviews say it does. But when I am outside of WiFi range (don't have another BB device) it does not seem to connect.
Or is the hardware in place but the OS does still not have the required code ?
Asked the question via the BB incident support but got no answer. Guess they are swamped. :-(
    Thanks

Yes it has a working GPS.  But...not all applications can work with it yet.  That said (and there have been a few posts on this subject) Bing Maps and Poynt work, at least for me!
When you're out of WiFi coverage those applications won't work since they need data to display their maps and other information.  Poynt is working on an update which will be released soon which will allow your PlayBook to leverage on the BlackBerry Bridge application to provide for data when out of WiFi coverage.

  • Connecting a powerbook G3 to the internet via ethernet and a DSL modem. Does the G3 have the ability to do this?

I am trying to connect an older powerbook G3 (M4753) to the internet via ethernet and a DSL modem. Does the G3 have the ability to do this? I'm having alot of trouble. G3 Dialog box states the DHCP server will populate IP address, etc. It does not. The G3 also insists I enter the DHCP client ID.

Great hearing for you all! I thought I was all alone this past weekend. I did learn a lot this weekend. I really like the InDesign product.(half-the-battle) But to be helped by the prestigious “Sandee Cohen” was an honor indeed.”  I ordered the InDesign CC today.  Peter, I appreciate all the feedback on Lynda too. They are loaded with lots of good videos. Derek too honed in on one of the most important aspects!  Since I have been working with Word for most of the first portion of the book this will be a big help. I looked at the comments big help ! Thanks a ton ALL!  Have a wonder day or evening whenever you read this reply.

Does the iMac have an AUDIO IN aside from the built-in mic?
Also, are any special cables needed?

    Hi
You should be able to check by going to about this mac from the Apple menu. Then click the more info button and then the system report button. Next, click on audio tab to the left. If you don't have an entry for built in input then you probably don't have line-in in your mac. As already mentioned though you should be able to defiantly find out with the model and year.
    Hope this helps

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your iPhone was knocked out of your hand and now it displays blue and black colors on the display. It does sound like this iPhone may need to be evaluated for service. If you would like more information about this process, please refer to the attached web link below.

Does the MBA have an optical audio out (toslink)?

The MacBook Pro and iMacs have digital audio out routed through the headphone jack.  A physical converter (costing a few cents) must be used to connect a regular TOSLINK cable.
The MacBook Air apparently does not have this feature.
As to true Thunderbolt 'adaptors' I have yet to see any hit the market.  I would suggest not holding your breath while waiting for useful Thunderbolt technology to appear--one day perhaps, but not now. I would love to be proven wrong about this--I could really use the Thunderbolt<->FW800 adapter

  • I AM STRUGGLINT TO ACCESS MY IPHOTO'S AND HAVE TO GO THROUGH APPLICATIONS TO ACCESS MY PHOTOS. HOW CAN I CORRECT THIS PLEASE. DOES THE MAC HAVE A DEFRAG?  TX

I am having problems viewing my iPhoto from the dock and have to go through my applications to view. What do I have to do to correct this please? Also does the Mac have a defrag function? I have also been advised by the sales person that the Mac does not need an antivirus programme, is this true?

I'm sorry but your post make no sense
first off All Caps is not necessary and makes things hard to read and is consider shouting - it is rude
Second you do not have "an iPhoto" - iPhoto is an application that manages photos - the photos are stored (by default) in the iPhoto library in a SQL lite database and you use the iPhoto program to manage them
I am having problems viewing my iPhoto from the dock and have to go through my applications to view.
can you please explain this in some detail. When you launch iPhoto by clicking on the iPhoto icon in the Dock what happens?
As to your other OS questions this is certainly not hte best place to address them - we are iPhoto users just like yourself here  ---  basically as I understand it (and I have had had Macs for 30+ years) there is no "defrag and you do not need one - and antivirus is your choice - most people feel it is a waste of money on a Mac but some like to have it

i am having major issues! this does not work i dont understand..does the ipod have to be off while pressing the buttons if so how is it possible if it is connected to the computer either way it turns on..and when i tried these steps while the ipod was on it still doesnt  work it just asks me “slide to power off” please someone help me i just cant seem to put my ipod in DFU mode

To get the iPod in recovery mode and DFU mode you first have to turn the iPod off.
Just what is the problem you are tying to resolve?
Sometimes you have to let the battery fully drain if you can't turn the iPod off. After charging for at least hour try again.

  • How much info about the cache-cluster does the client have and What would you recommend about putting the cluster behind virtual ip

    Hi,
I will appreciate if someone can point me to some documentation as to how app-fabric client library accesses the app-fabric cluster.
What I have found so far is that the list of hosts provided in the client configuration are used as an entry point into the Cache-Cluster. By connecting to one of hosts, the client will download information about all the hosts constituting the cluster.
Since a named cache is distributed across the entire cluster, and the data can be stored on any node. How does the client decide which node it should connect to, to get the data from. Does the client have enough information to know which host has the data
or the client will connect to one of the nodes, if the node has data, it will serve it otherwise redirect the client to the node that has the data.
I also would like to know what do you say about the idea that we would like to put our cache-cluster behind a virtual ip, so that if needed, we can take down nodes or add more nodes. In fact the virtual ip will that of a load balancer, but we don't plan to
use it for load balancing purposes but the idea is that the client will have the virtual ip address and we can repoint this IP address, if we need to take out a node for maintenance reason.

I'm not sure about the reason for putting the cache servers in a VIP, but one of the reasons why the cache servers should be made known to the servers is because of auto load balancing and throughput
Imagine i have 10 cache servers running on 1G ethernet links, theoretically i have 10G usable bandwidth and the clients will be able to manage and load balance if any of the cache server fails or have performance issues
Now if all these were parked behind a VIP
    1. The LB now does the load balancing, which may not be optimal
    2. The LB may not have 10G upstream and 10G downstream, even if it has, this is quite a waste of resource\
