Does the Neo4-F suffer the same temp problems as the Neo2 Platinums?

Hey there,
I'm about to change my Neo2's below and in the process put these five Opteron 146's in "something'.
(The Asus board is a test bed. I really liked my old A7N8X Dx's and bought it cheap enough used)
Can someone here answer if the Neo4-F's suffer the temp reading problems as my Neo2 Platinums do?
Nothing like rebooting to "get' a lower temp. Or watch it rise 1-2deg a day in a stable ambient.
I'd really like to not end up with new BIOS's being released attempting to cure the "supposed" temps reported.
They run 24/7 for Grid.org's Cancer Research and misleading or incorrectly reported temps worry me at times.

Can´t speak for the Neo4-F MoBo, just some general comments, that may or may not help you.
What temp problems did you have with your Neo2 MoBo ?
Getting a 100% accurate cpu temp reading seems to be difficult task to achieve for many Vendors and softwaremakers.
Differant vendors may have differant ways to monitor the integreated cpu temp sensor, which does not necessarily mean that the actual cpu temp is differant between differant MoBo´s.
Meaning a low cpu temp report may not be true and vice versa, so knowing the true cpu temp is not that easy, but I believe that any system that runs stable 24/7 is happy, no matter what cpu temp that is reported ( within reasonable values)
There are usually some "safe cpu temp" biossettings that could be changed, if the reported cpu temp is too high, to avoid shut downs / boot problems.
Some basic factors to consider are ;
- ambient room temperature
- what cpu cooler / thermal grease is used
- case / system ventilation and airflow
- what biosversion used
- surrounding system componenets, like VGA, PSU etc.
- stock or OC cpu-speed and cpu voltage
The above factors are the things you can affect yourself, no matter what MoBo.
For the moment I´m running a K8N Neo2 / Winchester with some 28c idle and 45c load.
I´m getting an opteron 146 to the weekend and it will be interesting to see what cpu temp I will get.
It is my understanding that the opterons runs a bit hotter compared to winchester / Venice cores.

Not holding my breath but does the Neo 2 Platinum NF3 support DDR2 4200 533MHz Dual Channel Geil ram? (2x1gig).
It only saysd DDr400 in the manual so I'm assuming it won't run it? (Its a matched pair as well I'm looking at buying).

Does the 975x platinum PE support boot from OCZ revodrive?

Hi all!
Does anyone know if the 975x platinum powerup edition motherboard supports an OCZ revodrive x2 on its second long scale PCIe slot and also boot from it?

The board is going to be 5 years old this year and the RevoDrive is a pretty new piece of hardware. That basically means three things:
1.) Active BIOS Development was stopped about 2 years ago. Whatever the case is with the RevoDrive, there will most likely not be a BIOS Fix in case any issues should surface.
2.) MSI has most likely never tested an OCZ RevoDrive 2 on this mainboard is most probably not going to do so in the future (they won't dig every old board out of the archive to check compatibility with newer devices -> that kind of job is to time consuming & would never be finished)
3.) The number of users that still have this mainboard in active use, actually tried a RevoDrive and are therefore able to share their experiences is rather low.
Basically, your only chance is that a user that fits into the category outlined under 3.) finds this thread by accident and is willing to provide feedback. If that does not happen, you are basically on your own. Test it and see for yourself. That would be my advice. It should actually work. The RevoDrive 2 is first and foremost a Silicon Image RAID Controller which dates back to 2005/06 and it is therefore rather old itself.

News - BIG PROBLEM - MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum - DOES NOT POWER!!!

Hi to everyone.
I'm a proudly owner of a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum that in one year gave me no problem until yesterday morning.
I used the computer in the night before and when I finished I turned it off and I went to bed.
Yesterday morning I found the power led blinking (like if the system was in standby), and there was no way to turn the PC on.
I even took off the battery for more than 12 hours and I left only minimal components installed:
the video card (Gainward GeForce 6800),
the psu (Antec TruePower 550W),
1 x 512 MB Ram Crucial Ballistix,
and I checked them into another computer and they work perfectly.
I tried shorting the MB power switch pins with a screwdriver and I've even tried to power on the system without the Memory or the Video Card... I've tried everything that came across my mind with no efforts!!!!
Every time I give power to the MB appens only that the power led starts blinking, but pressing the button the PC doesn't turn on.
PLEASE HELP ME... I really don't know what else to do!!!

I left only these things inside my computer in the hope that it would turn on... it did not work. I tested each component but the MB, and they work perfectly.

All parts have been tested: CPU/RAM/GFX/PSU/HD/DVD, just not the MOBO ?
Checked if the MOBO is shorting in the case ?
Have you tried using the reset switch as power, on/off switch ? I've seen before when the power switch stops working (lose/bad wire busted spring) after swapping reset to power, then the system turned on. Worth a try, as sending it back to USA won't be cheap. If its over 1 year old it mite not be covered by the re-seller and or MSI. Best to check this out as law and warranty is different from country to country.

I order stuff from them, so I thought I'd seen this comment earlier.
If they don't let you get a different memory module, what you might want to try is placing the memory online on Ebay, and selling below the market price by 5%-10%. Make sure you say "New" on the ad. You will obviously lose a little money, but better that than have useless memory.

my prescott is an E0 stepping, when i power on, i don't see any pictures, do i need a bios flash for this to work? if so, how can i flash it without seeing anything on the sceen? have anyone experience this problem before?

as far as i know I haven't seen any 2gb modules.

As you see by my specs below I am running 1066mhz memory, I went for the cheap stuff Kingston Hypre PC8500 and Am running it at 1060mhz. I can not overclock it but I can recommend your bios settings for you as I went through quite a bit of testing.
I have a 60mm fan attached to both my north bridge and south bridge,needed to get over 300mhz clock. I am using bios beta 716 and my proc @2.8GHZ nice and stable. I have found that this bios is stable and gives correct ratios for memory.
Your memory may differ from mine but I can not push my FSB past 353mhz as this would force my memory into overclocking and it won't take it.
FSB:Dram = 1:1.5 = 1:3/2 = 353:530 (double the data rate so effective is 1060mhz) My memory would only work at ratios 1:1 or 1:1.5, yours may differ but it's a good starting point. I have my Vcore @1.3 for a 353mhz FSB.
Technically if you want to run your proc at stock you should be able to run 1:2 ratio, 267:533 but mine can not run @1066 exact so I would have to lower my clock, no thanks. You may need to up your vdram to 2.2 for these higher ratios but you will need to check your memory specs to confirm.
Also you will need to set your memory timing manually, mine being 5-5-5-15 but I am running 4-4-4-12 ok. You will need to check your mem specs to get your timing though.
Lastly there are some settings to disable in the bios as to not mess with your overclocking -
Advanced settings/CPU settings -
Disable Speed step
Disable C1E something?
Disable Visualisation
Cell Menu -
Disable Spread spectrum
Disable PCI clk
Let us know how you get on - Remember that if the board doen't like your overclock it goes into a no dosplay/reboot cycle. Power down and press the power button twice to reset bad setting. That fails press the bios reset switch located in the front left hand corner of the board.

Melted Neo2 Platinum, new Neo4, but nothing

I came home to the smell of burnt plastic and a silent computer. Part of the Neo2 Platinum next to the Firewire pins (unused) had melted. I've RMAed the Neo2, and since installed a Neo4. The DLEDs start and stop at GRRG. I get nothing on the screen. I've swapped in hard drives I know to be good, and an old Matrox Millenium II known to be good, and still I get nothing. Any ideas?

Your GRRG description of D-Bracket is unclear. Please use the naming system from the thread above 1, 2, 3, 4 going from top left, top right, bottom left and bottom right. Do you mean 1G,2R,3Rand 4G? [Bios sign on?] The thread gives diagnostics, but they are not infallible. Did you reset cmos properly (pulling plug from psu, etc. until you finished hitting the cmos reset switch/jumper) before you started the build?
Did you have any other problems or wierd system behavior before the fire?

My iMovie doesn't work. When I open it nothing comes up so I force quit but then it closes, and a message comes up to send to apple. When I try to reopen it, it does the same thing!

Please hep me this is super aggrivating and I have no clue what to do!

Thank you for your question. It sounds like your iMovie window is not appearing when you open the program and force quitting it then reopening it does the same thing. I would recommend these staps in particluar to try from the following article:

1) Verify your software is up to date by running Software Update.

Note: There may also be a similar folder at ~/Library/QuickTime/ depending on the components you have installed. Want to use the same #TEMP table for multiple datasets in SSRS 2005

I am using Visual Studio 2005 to create SSRS 2005 reports. The report will consist of two different matrix from two different dataset that will gather data from the same data source. The first dataset is a procedure that inserts data from a query into
a #temp table and outputs it in the first matrix. I want the second dataset to be a different procedure that references the same #temp table. When the report is pulled then can the #temp table be dropped.

Try in the Dataset properties. In the Query tab, under and to the right of "Data source:" click the box with the elipses (...). In the General tab, toward the bottom, there is a check box beside "Use single transaction".

Firefox will not fully load and run anymore just out of the blue when I click to run it it just sits and does not respond I have totally uninstalled and reinstalled this many times and it still does the same thing why would it stop working?

When I booted my computer up from cold and click firefox to run it sat there and tryed to load instead it sits there and does the nor responding thing. I have totally uninstalled the program a few times and re installed a new download and the same thing happen. I can not run firefox any longer and i have run it everyday for a very long time. This seems to be the only program with an issue.

None of the stuff in " http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite " helps. I have tried and tried and I have even wipe the computer clean still didn't help. I got the same problem as he/she has got in the first posted. Can add some web pages but not all the web pages I want.. I should have never updated to 3.6.13... That's when it all started for me, from that version..... Now Version 3.6.14 is out, I was hoping the version 3.6.14 might would fix the problem wrong again....
Funny thing is i can not even Bookmark Firefox.com!!!!!...lol
So any ideas on how to fix it other than the link giving would help.

I then restart it and all looks fine. Each time I plug it in to the computer it does the same thing and it wont show up on my computer. The other strange thing is all of the songs are gone from the ipod but the disk space is still being used. When the ipod is not plugged into the computer everything look fine even the correct date shows up. Any ideas????? Thanks
