Does the new AR 7 11 use lossy compression

I am contemplating buying the new Sony AR 7 11 and the big question for me is does it use lossy compression? If it does I am not interested in buying it. Can anyone in these forums answer this for me? Thanks Jeri

  • Does the new 27" iMac still use mobile chipset for 4850?

In the previous iMac models the 4850 video card was based off the mobile chipset. Now I'm wondering if the new specs have bumped up the video card to use the desktop chipset.
I assume it isn't to keep the same form factor but with the added space it seems possible...
    Anyone know?

ifixit.com has a photo teardown of the new 27" iMac. Perhaps you can get an idea from the photos. They did mention that the CPU is the Intel desktop model instead of the mobile version in previous iMacs.

  • What type of compression does the new version of QT use?

I just opened a 1080p video shot with a AVCHD camera, did a basic trim and exported at 1080p.
What type of compression is the version of QT that comes with Mavericks applying to the video? Is it heavily compressed?
    Thanks.

Hi Jasper and welcome to Discussions,
    iMac Computers (August 2007)
The iMac Computers introduced in August 2007, based on the Intel Core 2 Duo microprocessor, provide two RAM slots that accommodate 200-pin DDR2 SDRAM SO-DIMMs up to 1.25” in height. The SO-DIMMs must be DDR2-667 (PC2-5300) compliant and must be unbuffered, unregistered, 8-byte, nonparity, and non-ECC.
The iMac ships with one 1 GB, 667 MHz, SDRAM SO-DIMMs installed, for a total of 1 GB. The largest capacity SO-DIMM supported is 2 GB, for a total maximum of 4 GB.
Memory configure-to-order options are: two 1 GB DIMMs for a total of 2 GB or two 2 GB DIMM for a total of 4 GB.
The memory controller supports 1 GB and 2 GB SO-DIMMs; other configurations are untested. Because the memory in the two slots is configured as a contiguous array of memory, when both SO-DIMMs are the same size and type, the interleaving function is able to improve performance.
The iMac supports a CAS latency of 5.
The width of each 667 MHz memory bus is 64 bits.
The maximum number of devices per SO-DIMM is 16.
    Regards
    Stefan

    Hi Brian,
Thanks restoring and restarting didn't fix my problem - i have started it fresh and still it doesn't work. Basically I press ONCE on the remote, after the machine has not had any commands for 10 minutes, and the cursor skips from one end of the menu to the other - so I can't choose network or update software etc - I sometimes manage to stop it randomly in the middle of the menu if I press on a command in the middle of the cursor skipping all the menu steps...not sure what the problem is but I have basically not used my brand new apple tv since I bought it for that reason! I should call Apple support I suppose! grrrr hate wasting time with stuff like this!
    Thanks for your help though!

  • Does the new Aperture use Time Machine at all?

One thing about Aperture 2 that bugged me was that the library is automatically excluded from Time Machine. In iPhoto, you can recover a photo or bring back a previous version with Time Machine, but this does not seem possible with Aperture. Does the new version of Aperture take advantage of this at all?

Mine isn't. I just started using Aperture 2 about 3 weeks ago, and it has been backed up by TM ever since.

  • Does the new iMac coming in December have a dvd drive? If not can you use the Apple USB SuperDrive?

Does the new iMac coming in December have a dvd drive? If not can you use the Apple USB SuperDrive?

The soon to be released new iMacs don't have a DVD drive. I don't believe that Apple have updated their site to say their USB drive will work, but the expectation is that it will.
I watched the keynote and when Phil Schiller was presenting the new models I think he mentioned something about it working and he had one on the desk next to the iMac.
I'm going to check the keynote if it's still up and I'll update my post if I'm wrong.

  • Does The New iPad have GPS receiver? Can I use it as car GPS navigate?

Hi, Does the New iPad have GPS receiver include as hardware? Can I use it as car GPS navigate?

If you get the WIFi+Cell model of iPad, then it does have GPS. You can use it for navigation if you purchase an app that provides downloadable maps. The built-in Maps app can work for navigation, but it doesn't provide turn-by-turn and requires an Internet connection to function and so usually isn't practical for in-car use.

You'll have to go to an Apple Store and view the screen to see if it's OK for you.  If a store is not convenient, buy one from Apple online and check it out.  You have 14 days to return it for a full refund, no questions asked.

  • Does the new computers come set up to use floppy disc

Does the new computers come with floppy disc use capability

    Preed, welcome to the forum.
It is difficult to find a newer computer with a 3.5" floppy drive.  In fact, most companies don't even offer them as an option.  Personally, I don't want any more components in the case than necessary.  I purchased an external 3.5" floppy drive.  Since I have only needed it a few times, it works fine for me.

  • Does the new iMac use the same memory as the previous?

Right now i have the 24" 2.16ghz iMac and i am considering selling it to buy the newest 24" 2.4 ghz version. My question is, do they use the same ram? The apple specs page for the new imac says it uses 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300) which is what i thought i had in my current iMac. For some reason though on crucial's website it says the new imac uses 800mhz ram, i would likely trust apples specs but i just wanted to confirm if it is the same so i know if i can keep a 1gb stick or not to put in the new one. Thanks!

By using the manual method (Apple > iMac > 2.8 GHz) I only got PC2-5300 (667 MHz) RAM (although I do get PC2-6400 RAM for the 2.4 GHz model - but you probably won't benefit from the performance boost, just like my Mini has now 1 GB of 400 MHz DDR RAM running at 333 MHz). And yes, the new iMac uses the same RAM as the older one.
I'd suggest you visit an Apple store and see the new iMac for yourself though. Your iMac still seems like a pretty good computer, and the 2.4 GHz processor and/or Radeon HD 2600 card may not warrant the upgrade price, especially if you don't like the glossy screen (which is reportedly much glossier than the MacBook's display).

  • Why does the new operating system not delete the moved files from their original location - it seems like an enormous waste of space, time and effort to clean up every file once you've moved it

Why does the new operating system not delete the moved files from their original locations - it seems like an enormous waste of space, time and effort to clean up every file once you've moved it - also, when transferring large amounts of files it becomes a very large problem remembering which files were transferred and which not.

You're going to need to be more specific, as I'm not quite sure I understand what you're talking about.
If you're referring to copying from an external hard drive or flash drive, and you want to actually move files rather than copy them, you can hold down the option key to force it to do a "move" rather than a "copy." This is not new behavior, though... the Mac OS has worked this way as long as I can recall (and I've been using it since 1984).
If you're having a problem with trying to move files from one place to another on a single drive causing them to be copied instead, that is likely because of some permissions issue preventing you from actually being able to move them.

  • I just bought a new MacBook Pro.  I managed to transfer everything to the new laptop.  BUT I'm having some real problems--e.g., wg from my older one to the new one.  Both use the same latest version of Snow Leopard.  My new laptop has the newer track pad.

I just bought a new MacBook Pro.  I managed to transfer everything from my older MacBook Pro to the new one.  Both use Snow Leopard, the latest update.
My new one has the newest trackpad, the old one, no.
I'm have big problems using Text Edit on the new laptop--the curser does not go where I want it to go for editing, I cannot get the text to be a clear or as large
as with the older Laptop.  Similarly, I cannot find a way to enlarge the menu bar.  But the text edit is my biggest problem right now.  I have reviewed all the preferences, particularly those in Universal Access, to no avail.
I finally gave up, used dropbox to send the text edit document to my old laptop, and continued with ease.  But this is not the way it should work.  I bought the
new laptop because the old one is showing signs of age.....
Is there something wrong with Text Edit while using the new trackpad?

    Thanks, Sig.
The old computer is a 2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
The new one is a 2.3 GHz intel core i7
In going over this, thanks to "tallking it out" with you, I did discover the Text Edit problem.  Because I've still been unable to get the new computer text size (fonts or whatever) to match the old computer, I did not notice that the curser is now different--the line midway down the curser has to be placed on the line I am working upon, otherwise the edits go elsewhere on the page.  Now, with a bit of difficulty, I am able to get Text Edit to work correctly.
If you have any ideas as to why my menu bar and Text Edit type are still so slow, I'd love to have them.
(I went through the process you suggested earlier, re my Trackpad preferences, and found no improvement.)
