Does the new firewall just work?

I'll be honest I had no worries with the firewall in 10.4 I just turned it to on and that was the last I thought about it.
I see no such simple operation in 10.5, infact I am quite confused.
So, is it on or not? If I set it to specific is it on now?
When is it exactly on?

Is my screenshot for instance on or off? If I set to block all incoming is it now on, or have I stopped all internet use? If I set it to specific things, what do I do now is it on?
Most confusing and in my opinion a mistake by apple.
10.4 = on or off
10.5 = If you are an expert on such matters you may know, or you may not.

I've interpreted it as follows, which I believe is correct:
Allow all incoming connections - Firewall is off
Block all incoming connections - Firewall is on
Set access for specific services and applications - Firewall is on, with certain 'holes', required for the specified services
I've blocked all incoming connections and haven't had any problems with internet use. I can still browse the web, send and receive emails, perform a software update and my dashboard widgets still get updated etc. I assume all of these are initiated via outgoing connections, whereas Firewalls tend to be associated with incoming connections.

More GPS information...
GPS signals are separate from and completely unrelated to both the Internet and the cellular telephone network. GPS signals come directly from the GPS satellites. They provide latitude and longitude information to GPS receivers. Navigation software then takes that latitude/longitude info and converts it to land mass, roads, bridges, highways, buildings, etc.
Most navigation software stores the maps right in the iPad/iPod/iPhone but a disadvantage is that the maps must be periodically updated (perhaps once every two years). The Internet is not required to use the system but it is required to update the maps.
Some navigation software gets the maps from the Internet and requires an Internet connection to function but an advantage is that the maps are always up-to-date.
The WiFi+3G/4G iPad and the iPhone both have a GPS receiver. The WiFi-only iPad and the iPod do not and these devices require an accessory.

Does anyone know if the new AIM Triton works with Ichat AV? I know the Beta version was not working but don't know about the new triton release.
Also, has anyone tried video/audio communication between Trillian and Ichat? Does it work? Is it better than AIM?

I have been working with the Triton on a PC and after much research (frustration), I have found this stated on the AIM support site:

So after reading around, I believe the 5.9 will video to the iChat 3's but I haven't had the time to try. Other posts suggest this to be true. Including many by Ralph.

I just installed the new airport extreme and I can't get my airport expresses to function as a part of the network. Does anyone know how to get past this? Do the expresses work with the new extreme?

I assume this issue is true for both Express base stations ... that is, that their status lights go to solid amber when removed from the Extreme base station. A solid amber would indicate that the base station has failed to reinitialize with its "new" configuration.
The only recommendation I have at this point, is to start over with just a single Express. Perform a "factory default" reset on both the Extreme and the Express. Leave them both powered-off after they complete their respective resets.
Power-up the Extreme. Leave it in its default configuration which is to broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN. Connect the Express to one of the available LAN ports on the Extreme, and then, plug the Express into power.
Your Mac should shortly "see" the new base station in the AirPort drop-down menu from the OS X menu bar. Select this new station and the AirPort Utility should start up. Use the utility's automated steps to configure the Express to extend the Extreme. Allow the Express to restart.
Now remove the Express from power, and then, disconnect it from the Extreme. Place the Express in another location in the same room and plug it back into power. Does it eventually give you a green status light?

1Password does work with Firefox 8. - follow the instructions on the 1password website. You may have to open the download with firefox, as it might not come up automatically. Check for it in your downloads and the go to firefox and File and select Open File and choose 1Password.xpi from your downloads.
Check your add-ons under Tools on browser bar. Then look to the far right of your Navigation Bar and you will find the 1password Icon.
If you don't like it's location, the go to View, Toolbars, Customize and move it to the desired location.

How does the new shuttle control work in Apex 3.1?

I have tried creating a shuttle type control in Apex 3.1. I have based it on a list of Items from my Items table. I can move Items from the left side to the right, and from there I can move them up & down, but whatever I do only seems to affect the page display and has no effect on my tables.
Can anyone explain how this control works and what it's meant to do? Could I, for example, use it to copy records from one table to another?

The Shuttle is a type of multi-select. It produces a comma delimited string of your selected values. It is useful in wizards, where you need to select multiple items from a single list (like selecting columns from a table). You can also use it against a 'real' table if you have not normalized. Let's say you have a table that stores meetings and one column lists the people invited. You could use a shuttle to select invitees (using an lov from your people table).

I´m trying to tell a button to start the timeline from a certain position. In the 2014 version the open actions menu is different from the previous. I don´t understand where I´m supposed to write the number for the timeline in the box that pops up. In the previous it wasn´t a problem, but now I can´t write the number if I don´t also choose a target for for the action. But I don´t have a target? I just want the timeline to start from 1000.

Well, I had to choose stage as target apparently. Problem solved.

Adobe eliminated its "mobile Flash" department. Android, Mobile Windows, IOS, WebOS ... everyone is out of luck.

How does this new Firewall work?

I've upgraded from Tiger to Leopard, but I just don't understand the new firewall.
Does anyone know what the correct settings should be? Is it wise to 'allow all connections'? Does this mean the firewall is off?
Really confused by this, I wish they left the firewall alone, the Tiger version was much easier to configure.

I think I'll wait until 10.5.1 and see what Apple do about this ridiculous firewall.

It was never completely clear whether it was just hidden or whether Apple ran a download page for iChat 6.
As the Download for Messages Beta was separate and "Deleted" iChat it would seem it would be another download for iChat 6.
iMessages will not function as it is only an Account type within Messages and iChat 6 does not have it.
Therefore messages on the iPhone will not sync to the Mac. (until you get Mountain Lion and Messages in that OS X version).
Mountain Lion and it's full version of Messages will not sync the iMessages that have happened in between the 14th December 2012 (end date of Messages beta) and the Install of Mountain Lion if you decide on that route.
