Does the new Lithium polymer battery in MBP C2D require calibration?

Does anyone know for sure if Lithium polymer batteries require calibration?

It is best to calibrate your battery every 4 to 8 weeks. Do not calibrate any more frequently as that can also reduce your battery's performance. And no, this is specfic to Apple but with Lithium batteries as a whole.

  • Does the new macbook aluminium battery cover fit properly?

    Hi users,
Just wanted your advice on the battery cover of the new aluminium macbook. I saw some viedos on youtube where in users have mentioned that the cover is really loose? Is this the case with your machines also? Or are these only one off cases?
    thanks

    mine fine too.
heres a small tip. if it does become loose. the 3 clipy part that slots in the bottom of the battery case. bend it ever so slightly inwards and that will 'hold' the cover in place. but warning. don't bend too much. may break!! so do so ever so lightly.

Does the new MBP not come with any cd's (startup discs, etc).  It does have Lion installed

Yes.  New school does not need them. There is a Recovery partition build into the new Lion OS that takes the place of DVD's.

thunderbolt in MBPs do not seem to behave well with Dell ultrasharp series. http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3529/p/19458525/201488 89.aspx
    I have a U3011, and my MBP retina 15inch
(10.8.2) only sends YPbPr space to the display via miniDP to DP cable instead of RGB. If I change the settings to RGB, the color is all funny looking. For all professional purposes this is useless. Nobody from Apple or Dell is willing fix this.
U3011 only uses HDMI 1.3, so you won't get the full resolution. I also have used a mini-DP to dual-DVI adaptor. It gets RGB from MBP, the text is all garbled for anything above 1600x1000 .
I am at my wits end.

  • Ipod with iluv lithium polymer battery

Hi, I just got an iLuv lithium polymer battery for my iPod nano. it is the model i602, which is supposed to make my iPod last 56 hours before it goes dead. My question is to anyone who has one of these, do I have to have my iPod hooked up to the battery to get the full 56 hours, or can I charge it, and when it's done charging, take the iPod out of the battery and play it while still getting 56 hours of playtime?

    Hi,
You may want to show him/her this:
      http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/ca/en/ho/WF06c/A1-329290-329223-329260-329260-3824880-3824883.html
The battery itself should have its model number. The page clearly says:
"Our Mini 3-cell Battery is Lithium-Polymer; it's lighter than a typical Lithium-Ion battery. Put it to work powering up your HP Mini 1000 or Compaq Mini 700 series notebook for hours of fun and productivity."

  • Does the new Classic run the same software as the older one?

Does the new (120GB) version of the Classic run the same software as the older ones (80/160GB)?
The reason I ask this is because I am interested in a Classic, but only the 160GB version. Will it run the same software, with the same features, as the new 120GB version?
For that matter, is there any difference between the two versions of the Classic, other than storage capacity?

    Babaganoosh wrote:
What are the new software features, other than Genius (which I don't plan on using anyway)?
Some that I have read about include...
    Better battery life.
Same slimmer size as the old 80GB (I guess the 160GB was pretty chunky).
The headphone port now supporting the new remote control and microphone headphones (where ever that gets released) so you can record your own voice memos and control the iPod from the headphone cord rather than digging it out of your pocket.
Also when watching videos, IF the video has them encoded in, you can now turn on subtitles or listen to alternate audio tracks (e.g. the Spanish translation, directory commentaries, etc.). But again, this would assume the video has those features encoded into the video. The iPod only turns them on.
That is about it. I lifted most of the above stuff off the iLounge review (which is quite good) found here...

  • Why does the new operating system not delete the moved files from their original location - it seems like an enormous waste of space, time and effort to clean up every file once you've moved it

Why does the new operating system not delete the moved files from their original locations - it seems like an enormous waste of space, time and effort to clean up every file once you've moved it - also, when transferring large amounts of files it becomes a very large problem remembering which files were transferred and which not.

You're going to need to be more specific, as I'm not quite sure I understand what you're talking about.
If you're referring to copying from an external hard drive or flash drive, and you want to actually move files rather than copy them, you can hold down the option key to force it to do a "move" rather than a "copy." This is not new behavior, though... the Mac OS has worked this way as long as I can recall (and I've been using it since 1984).
If you're having a problem with trying to move files from one place to another on a single drive causing them to be copied instead, that is likely because of some permissions issue preventing you from actually being able to move them.

    Hello
I bought my wife a new MacBook Pro, in setting it up for her, I took her Time Machine external drive to migrate onto the new machine but her old MBP not only was on 10.6, it was my old machine which I was still Administrator for.
i plugged in the external drive to start the migration process after entering her name and username from the old machine which gave me the options on transferring the old data over.
I also unchecked the Administrative end that had my info hoping that ONLY her data, files, etc., would be the ones sent over to her new machine which I wanted her to be the ONLY Administrator for. All went like clockwork until the restart.
Normally the screen should show the username and only need the password but both entries were blank, as in ‘Other’ sign in option available only. I entered her name and password, nothing….used her username and password, nothing. Used my old Administrator name and password, NOTHING!
I tried defaulting to factory settings from the Restore feature but it directs me to notify Apple. I tried in Terminal to change the password, nothing. I tried to boot from MY external drive and it doesn’t recognize it. I tried to even use my external drive which actually has the Mavericks upgrade, nothing!
Basically I can only get the startup screen which isn’t accepting the username/password or the Restore feature which doesn’t offer any options helpful!
Please, how do I start from scratch and start over here? Or simply change the Administrator name and password so I can proceed with everything thats already on there? I wish I could even boot from another drive but no luck on anything!

First, on the old machine, make your wife's account an admin one. Log into it and delete yours. Then, update the TM backup. Finally, use Internet recovery mode, ⌘⌥R, erase the HD, and restore the OS. One first boot, follow the steps outlined in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide.

  • Does the new airport extreme support backing up via time machine to an external hard drive pluged into the usb port

Does the new airport extreme support backing up via time machine to an external hard drive pluged into the usb port

Yes, but you might want to note that the port on the AirPort Extreme is only USB 2.0, and that it runs at about half the speed of the USB 2.0 port on a computer, so things are going to be quite SLOW as far as backups are concerned, or anything else for that matter.

  • Does the new iPad work with adobe flash?

Does the new Ipad work with a version of adobe flash?  I have read several articles, and I'm just more confused than when I started!  I'm a newer Mac user, and I'm interested in the new iPad, but I don't know if I want it if it doesn't support internet pages that use adobe flash.  Thanks for your help!!

Adobe eliminated its "mobile Flash" department.  Android, Mobile Windows, IOS, WebOS ... everyone is out of luck.

  • HT1338 I downloaded the latest Mountain Lion to my macbook 2.4 and lost my acrobat 5.0. Also, it will not reinstall. Does the new upgrade not allow Adobe Acrobat 5.0.

I downloaded the new operating OSX Mountain Lion and now my mackbook 2.4 will no longer read or open Adobe Acrobat 5.0. I tried to re-install and it wouldn't allow it. Does the new operating system totally kill Adobe Acrobat 5.0? Is it possible to make it work and if so, how?

You will need to wipe your drive because you cannot downgrade over a newer system. So, you'd need to have a complete backup and either your Snow Leopard install disk or a bootable clone made before upgrading to Lion. If you have the disk, insert it while holding down C key to boot off it, choose Utilities (after language selection), choose Disk Utility and choose erase. After that, the installer will automatically reinstall SL and you can use Setup Assistant to move over your files from your backup. (Note: Mail changed in Lion, so you won't be able to import it - you'd have to do it manually).
If you have a bootable clone, it's even easier: boot with the clone, use Disk Utility to erase the drive and clone your SL system back to your internal drive.
Depending on which route you'll decide on, we can give more detailed instructions.

  • Why does the new Itunes freeze/do nothing when i click on my Ipod touch icon ?

Why does the new Itunes freeze when i click on my Ipod touch icon to manage my content? All buttones, video, tv, info, music, they all do nothing. i was only able to sync by bringing up the old sidebar. Is this a software glitch, or am i missing a step? I just spent two days reorganizing and labeling all my music for the new itunes, and had to restore my ipod so i could upload my new library. i know what is supposed to come up when you click on the music or info tabs, but nothing happens, only the eject button works. whats going on?

The screen is telling you to connect the iPod to your computer with iTunes with the USB connector.  iTunes should open and give you instructions as to what to do.  Whatyou need to need to do is to restore the iPod via iTunes.

The New iPad supports 3G world-wide wherever there is a local provider of iPad data plans and iPad micro sim cards. Read the specifications. http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/
