Does the OS X license follow the computer or the disc?

Hello everyone, I did a quick search but didn't find an answer to my question.
I have a few Apple computers and am wondering if the license is tied to the computer or the restore disc.
For example:
My Quicksilver didn't come with an OS so does owning the computer allow me to install the OS that origionally came with the system?
My iBook G4 came with 10.4 installed so am I able to obtain a backup copy ot 10.4?
I upgraded my MacBook Pro from 10.5 to 10.6 using a store-bought disc, is that considered an upgrade to my OS or do I have an extra Leopard license?
I purchased a new Superdrive for my iBook and it included a restore disc for an Intel iMac, can I install the OS on a G4? (I know I can't use the disc to do that but can I legally download a PPC version?)
I tried reading the EULA but didn't see where it would be tied to the computer or the disc.

Of course. Just call Apple to get replacement DVDs for the iBook if you lost them > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 As your Mac is old, maybe Apple hasn't got more discs for your computer.

Snow Leopard is sold as a Leopard update. You have another Mac OS X license, but to install Snow Leopard for the first time, you need Mac OS X Leopard. If you bought Snow Leopard, you are telling Apple that you have Leopard and Apple is telling you that you can only use that DVD to upgrade a Mac with Mac OS X Leopard. Both licenses are dependent, but once you have upgraded to Snow Leopard, just forget Mac OS X Leopard.

You can't. That DVD can only be used with that iMac because it contains a Mac OS X version that it's only compatible with that iMac and because Apple doesn't allow you to use that DVD with other Macs, being compatible or not

I'm moving an internal hard drive from an old computer to a new computer. (My new compute runs Windows 8.1) How do I transfer the catalog data to my new computer so the Organizer of Photoshop Elements 6 will find the data on the hard that has been moved to the new computer? Is this possible or do I have to use the procedure of copying the catalog along with the photos to a back up hard drive and then restore them on the new computer?

The 'normal' procedure is to do a PSE organizer backup (not a copy or a backup from external tools) to an external drive, then a restore to the new location.
The advantage is that you have a backup of both catalog and media files and you don't have all disconnected files, which would happen with external backup tools. Also, if you restore with a more recent elements version, the catalog will be automatically updated to the new format.
The drawback in your situation is that you'll have either to overwrite all your files or restore to a custom location, creating a duplicate photo library (which supposes you have enough free space).
It would be possible to simply use the organizer in the old PC to move the catalog to a new 'custom' folder just under your C: root drive. The catalog would be accessible once the drive will be installed in the new PC. Then you would have all files 'disconnected' due to the fact that all your media files are now on a drive with a different letter. Reconnecting a whole library is a hard job with PSE6, less so with PSE11/PSE12.
If the idea of fiddling with the sqlite database with external sqlite manager tools is ok for you, I can describe the process more in detail. You only copy your catalog folder (as suggested above) to another location. Instead of trying the 'reconnection' way, you install the sqlite utility on the new computer. When the old drive is installed in the new computer, you simply edit a given record in the catalog database, catalog.psedb, and start the organizer with your copied catalog by simply double clicking the 'catalog.psedb' file.
Even if the last solution is much, much quicker, I would still create a new PSE backup : you have never too much safety .

The most common cause for this issue would be media present that is purchased with another Apple ID. When prompted to authorize the computer it may show a different Apple ID. Are you saying that Adobe Reader or Preview can't read PDF file that you download? Or, are you saying that you can't display PDF files in your Safari broweer? If the latter, then delete any AdobePDFViewer plugins you find in /Library/Internet Plug-ins/ and restart. That should allow Safari to display PDFs in its window. BTW, that's the worst place to view them. Better to download them and use Adobe Reader or Preview.

Same basic way as if you connect it to your syncing computer. However, you ned to restore to factory defaults/new iPod since there is not backup on the foreign computer.
In both cases you have to place the iPod in recovery mode to bypass (an erase) the iPod. For recovery mode see:

It's a two email process, one email has a locked pdf with the redemption code. The second email has the password to unlock the pdf. They come separetly, so you may have to wait for the 2nd to arrive.

Unable to scan from the printer control panel to my computer using the HP Photosmart 5510

Hi, I recently purchased the new HP Photosmart 5510 All in One --- and I’m not able to scan from my printer to my computer. I am however able to scan by initiating the scan from the computer. I spoke to HP customer care earlier this evening and we ran the print + scan doctor and did not find any problems. I’m running Windows 7 – 64bit and have installed my printer wirelessly using the Installation CD that came with the printer today. I wasn’t able to finish troubleshooting with the technician I spoke to because I had to leave for work. The Person I spoke with suggested possibly downloading the Full Feature Software from the hp.com website, which I’m happy to do but I feel that it is unnecessary because I have the install CD right here. (The rep I spoke to was very nice but I’d rather not have to uninstall and reinstall if it is not necessary) Because as I mentioned above, everything else works perfectly and I am able to scan --- just not directly from the printer itself. When I'm trying to scan from my printer to my computer an error message comes up on the printer's control panel stating that: there is no scan destinations selected/no scan options. However, I can not find anywhere with my HP software where I could add/ensure that the destinations were there. (Like I could on my other printers. (Ie. Through the Solution Center) This printer does not seem to have a Solution Center that I could find and the Scanner Icon that was installed with the CD does not give me any options in terms of modifying the scanner settings I’m wondering: 1. Does the Hp Photosmart 5510 not have the capability to scan from the printer’s control panel? 2. OR Does the install CD that came with my printer only have the basic drivers like the tech support agent suggested? Which means in order to scan from my printer I’d have to download the drivers from your hp website? 3. Or is the issue due to something else completely? Thanks for your help!

I cannot access the Verizon Messages app from any computer. The message app works fine across my phone and tablets but I cannot use it on my desktop.

No. That would only be valid for content purchased in the iTunes Store, because you can redownload purchased content onto a different computer for free, and it is also valid if you are using iTunes Match, but note that settings, device backups... will not be transferred. Moreover, if you have got an iPhone, iPod or iPad, you will be asked to erase it before being able to use it with your new PC.
Instead of doing that, I recommend you to transfer the whole iTunes library to your new PC by following these steps > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1751 Finally, do the "Restoring your iTunes Library backup" on your new PC.

Help with installing the original Photoshop on a new computer from the disc

I have a new computer. I want to install Adobe Photoshop Elements 1.0.1. I have the disc and serial number (1057-45428-2285-0248-2785-2727) but when I start installing, I get an error - Internet Explorer 4.0 required. I don't have that program and I want to use Mozilla or Chrome as my internet server. How do I avoid this problem? I am happy with what the original program does and don't want an upgrade. wow that's an old program windows98 days
so it will be oober slow, GIMP and a few others are free compared to that one
that said, there are a few things you can try with old software. not sure about yours but goes in general for older stuff
run it in compatability mode.. This is where you right click on the exe file go to properties and choose the older os to so it can pretend to be it
another option, as I am not familiar with that older version, it is a little weird why it want ie, maybe it used it to log onto the net, to say hi, not even sure they did it back then, or maybe it used the browser as a webpage to show help, depending on where that code is, perhaps you are running it from the beginning setup of the cd. If you went into the disc itself into the program only part and bypass it. again just a guess
and the last suggestion, install VMware. this will allow you to install windows98 as a virtual os then you may be able to install it into that.
after saying all this bear in mind all the hardware you have now, that software has no idea even existed.

I have visited a genuis bench at Fountain gate however, they tell me I need to ring apple support which I will do on the next working day.

You are going to need to change the email address you use with your old ID. Once you have got access to your old account you will then log into both accounts at the same time on your Mac and transfer your data to a single account. We can do this later, but need you to get access to your old account first.
