Does the silence switch, switch off all sound?

I have an iPhone, and I need all sound deactivated as I bring my iPhone to high school. Does the silent switch on the side, mute everything? I don't want app notifactions and emails popping up in class. Or do I have to manually switch off the sound?

  • HT204368 Why does connection to a bluetooth device turn off all sounds but the ring tone?

I have a Bernafon bluetooth device that connects via bluetooth to my iPhone 4 running iOS6 and routes the telephone through my hearing aids however, it appears that connecting via bluetooth turns off all sounds other than the incoming call ring tone.  This has caused me to miss several time sensitive text messages and emails.  Does anyone have a solution?

Without knowing what DAQ Hardware you have and what version of NI-DAQ you are using, it's hard to say exactly how to resolve this. However, I would suggest using the Intermediate and Advanced Digital VIs rather than the Easy VI because you have more control. There are examples that ship with LabVIEW and examples online that should assist you. There is also a KnowledgeBase 24BECT4U that may be helpful.

Check the Mute switch, which is on the left side of the phone above the volume buttons.

  • Shut off all sounds except one distinctive ring?

Can I shut off all sounds and leave on just one distinctive ring?
When I go to sleep I'd like to leave my phone near me.  I don't want to get any sounds from it, except the ring from the nursing home where my mother lives.  Everything else can wait until morning.  Can I do this on an Iphone 6 or 5?
Upon awakening, I'll reset to get all the sounds.

On one of my operator's forum I've received help. On adapter, in Line section (the one where I don't wanna hear ringtone when my numeber is called) I set DND Settings:Yes (which stands for Do Not Disturb). This makes my phone completely silent and I can make calls (the line must be registered, in the other case Make Calls Without Registration must be On).
I'm still curious what's going on with Distinctive Ring Patterns since my phone has only melodies as ringtones, though (is this function useful in this case?)
    Anyway, thanks for your intentions.

  • Turn off All Sounds

I've got an application that I'm building that uses a variety
of sound effects. These are currently sprinkled throughout the app.
in buttons, mcs & 1 or 2 on the main timeline. Is there an easy
way to add a button to turn off all sounds, if the user doesn't
want them? I've tried applying the "turnoffallsounds" to no avail.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

    siney,
    > I haven't defined targets as they are kind of spread

    event?
You can. As dbeech mentioned, the Sound class acts globally
    in
ActionScript 2.0 if you omit a target in the constructor to
    the Sound class.
This basically means you can easily create a global volume
    control as
described here (doesn't matter if your sounds are timeline
    based or
    ActionScript-based):

I really do not think it is the iPad or your network connection. Other users have reported this very same issue. Try this and see if it works for you - it may not work - but it's easy to try - harmless - and it has worked in the past for others.
Try signing out of your account and restart your iPad.
Go to Settings>Store>Apple ID and tap the ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. Go back to Settings>Store> Apple ID and sign in again.

  • I, too, keeping getting a pop up when in Safari that is from "tap-security.rubicon....  I saw the suggestion to turn off all extensions, but this didn't help.  What next can be done?

I read that several other people have been bothered by a drop down message talking about a bad certificate and perhaps non secure site when working in Safari.  I, too, keeping getting this pop up when in Safari that is from "tap-security.rubicon....  I saw the suggestion to turn off all extensions, but this didn't help.  What next can be done?

If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide, AdwareMedic, or Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac - Apple Support.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.

Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

  • WD Hard Drive Switching On/Off All Day Long

    Hi,
Has anyone got a Western Digital My Book connected to their Mac for use with Time Machine? I have, and the fact that it keeps switching off and on throughout the day is really annoying me. I spent all this money to get a completely silent iMac, and I have this hard drive ruining the silence by spinning down and up again.
Is there any way to set these WD My Book drives so that they just stay on (with the disk spinning) all the time your Mac is turned on? If my Mac is on, I want my WD My Book drive to be on with its disk spinning.

    Hey There.
    Was having the same issues.
    Called WD.
They have recently posted Firmware updates for the studio drives.
They also have firmware updates for older mybook drives.
The firmware updates address firewire issues!
    Just applied the updates.
    My data was not lost.

  • Why does the 3GS lose 3G connection all the time?

My 3GS drives me insane and I'm strongly considering going back to BlackBerry when my upgrade is due in November because I NEVER had this issue with those phones but the issue occurs on my 3GS, it happens with my friend's iPhone 4 and I therefore doubt the issue will be resolved in the next iPhone.
Whenever I lose mysignal, ie. going into a lift, the signal returns afterwards but the 3G connection NEVER returns automatically unless I turn on Airplane mode and then turn it back off again. When I do this, 3G returns on an almost full signal so I know that the area I'm in has a strong enough signal.
This is unacceptable for a phone that is supposed to do pretty much everything! And getting a 3G signal back after a drop in signal really doesn't seem too much to ask since all other phones seem to handle it perfectly well. I've also noticed that iPhones tend to display 'searching' for absolutely ages after coming out of an area with no signal, whereas everyone else regains their signal long before I do!
This is very frustrating, I feel like I am babysitting this hunk of junk and I've reached the end of my tether. Do iPhones have an issue in general with signal and maintaining a decent signal? If so, I'm getting shot of this thing and getting a phone that actually functions how it should.
And yes I've switched on and off, yes my phone regularly runs completely flat, yes I've taken the SIM out and put back in and yes I've even tried a completely brand new SIM.

    Hi
Are you in the UK ?
I have the exact same problem on O2 - using an iphone 3gs 4.3.5
Now, I think it is to do with a software update... My cousin has a 4 on 4.3.1 or .2 and hers doesn't do it but another friend has a 4 on 4.3.5 and hers does the same as mine.
It drives me mad. I come home and have good 3g but then it goes and I have to go into airplane mode and back to re-connect to 3g and then when I do there is like 3 - 4 bars of 3g there,
I wish Apple would sort it out!!!

  • How do you turn off ALL sound?

Even with my sound switch turned off, my apps still have sound coming out thru the speaker. It seems that the switch only controls the sound of my ring. How do I turn EVERYTHING off? Is there something wrong with mine?
I don't know if my phone has always been this way because only recently with all the new apps have I been using it for more than just a phone.

    Sigh...
Anyway, two fixes for this problem.
    1. Plug in the earphone. But what if I don't wanna do that. Pretty dumb.
    2. Lower the volume to zero. A constant hassle to adjust volume. Currently firmware, the volume control is kinda cranky.
Well, when in silent mode, I usually don't use the iPod, YouTube or whatever radio app.
It's a situation where I simply wanna play a game and not annoy others in a quiet waiting room. And I don't really carry my earphone with my iPhone all the time. The iPhone is still primary a phone. Like all my previous mobile phones, it's just a simple switch - silent switch/mode on.

  • Why does the menu get cut off even if the project is widesrcreen?

I made a widescreen project in iMovie, exported it to iDVD, and chose a widescreen theme. It looked fine on my computer but when I burned it and played it on my home DVD player, the words were cut off. I also noticed that when played on some TVs, my movie (although widescreen) played as full screen and therefore, cut off some of the footage. Does anyone know how to fix this?

HOW TO MAINTAIN 16:9 ASPECT FROM IMPORT TO BURN
This is the way I do it. There is no compulsion on you to do it my way, but this works (for me). I started this method before iMovie and iDVD were upgraded to 6.0.3, and because not all elements of the various iDVD themes (particularly the pre-iDVD 6 ones) are consistent in keeping to 16:9 throughout the process.
The widescreen preview works just fine when you check your finished project within iDVD. The problem only happens when you either burn a project or save it to an image.
A bug in iDVD 6, particularly when working with PAL, and which has been reported to Apple, is that the sub-menus in many of the themes (the chapter settings) default to 4:3 aspect, NTSC and mpeg 1, instead of the desired 16:9 in mpeg 2 in PAL. This may be partly a leftover from iDVD 5 or even a newer ‘feature’ of iDVD 6. Either way, it is annoying when it happens, and we must hope Apple cure it in iDVD 7. In the meantime here is my failsafe workaround, which sounds a lot more complicated when reading about it, that it is in practise.
Living in the UK, I use PAL (25 fps). Wherever you see a reference to PAL (25 fps) in the following you may substitute NTSC (30 fps) in the various settings mentioned (if you don’t live in Europe), the basic idea is the same. I still use this method, and take these steps, regardless of whether it is always necessary. Worst case scenario: it would have worked anyway. Best case scenario: it works perfectly where it otherwise wouldn’t!
The object of the exercise is therefore to ‘fix’ all constituent parts of the project (video, titles, theme, effects, even audio!) in the desired 16:9 aspect to avoid producing a DVD where the movie is in 16:9 and the menu is in 4:3 or where other irritating surprises lurk in your project, which you only discover after burning a coaster!
First go to http://www.mydvdedit.com/index.php?lang=english and download myDVDedit. This is shareware although the download is free. Send the guy a few dollars/euros, he deserves it. While you are there, read all about it. Now install it in your Applications Folder. You will need it later.
You have finished your iMovie project with music, transitions and so on, and saved it to you Movies Folder. Before you started the project you naturally set it to DV Widescreen.
Open iDVD. Give the project a name, and save it as Widescreen if it didn’t default to the same aspect as your iMovie project. Now import the iMovie project into iDVD, choose a theme (any theme you like, even if it prefers to stay at 4:3) and save the project. Do what you would normally do to the theme and its drop zones. Save the project.
Now save as Disk Image on your desktop. Leave it there for the moment when it has finished/appeared.
Open your Movies Folder. Create a new folder. Name it PROJECTNAME – TS FILES (where ‘projectname’ is the name of your project!). Close the folder. You can of course call it anything you like, but this aids identification.
Now double-click the disk image on your desktop. It contains two folders: AUDIO_TS (which is empty, but please pretend that it isn’t) and VIDEO_TS. Drag and drop these to the folder you created in your Movies Folder. (This takes a moment).
Click on the AUDIO_TS folder and go to Get Info in the file menu. Right down the bottom is where you have to change the permissions. Under ‘Ownership & Permissions’ change this from Read Only to Read & Write. Click the small triangle next to Details, scroll down and click on ‘Apply to enclosed items’. You will be asked for your root password. Close the get info window, and now click on the VIDEO_TS folder and do the same. Close the Projectname-TS Files folder. You have now allowed yourself to change the properties of the contents of those folders, which leads us to the next all-important step.
Open myDVDedit. Go to File and open the projectname TS Files folder. By all means stare at it shock and awe, but don’t bother finding out what it can do, except for the following:
Top left you fill see a list of files. Lower centre you have a large window. On the vertical menu to the left of that, click te middle one (VTS or VMG).
In the window at the top left, ignore ‘First Play’ (if there was anything to correct in that, myDVDedit will have done so and told you).
Click on VMG Menu en (English). Now the whole thing springs to life.
Set Coding Mode to MPEG-2 (if it isn’t already)
Set Standard to PAL (or NTSC if that is what you want)
Set Aspect to 16:9 (not any of the other options)
    Now save the file.
Click on VTS Menu 1 en (English) and repeat as above.
Click on VTS Menu 2 and repeat as above.
You have now permanently ‘fixed’ the entire contents of the TS folder (the disk image) in 16:9 aspect. Close myDVDedit – you won’t need it again until the next project!
If you have Toast 7 Titanium, open it. ‘Select DVD-Video from VIDEO_TS’. Choose Select from the main Toast window and select your projectname-TS Files folder. You are now ready to burn! You can set the burn speed (2x recommended) before the burn commences. Allow Toast to verify the burn before you eject the DVD-R disk.
If you don’t have Toast 7, then I assume you can burn the projectname-TS Files folder (disk image) via Disk Utility. I say ‘assume’ only because I have never tried it that way.
Either way, you now have a DVD which will play as 16:9 widescreen on any TV set, even the old ones where you can’t ask it to letter-box.
