Does the Ti400 play any burned DVD's?

I am borrowing backups from a friend at work of 2 movies, and when I put them in my Ti400, nothing happens. Is it just the format, or is it old enough that nothing burned works?
Thanks!

Hi, James. It's hard to say. The problem could be the media: your drive definitely can't read any +r or +rw media. It may not be able to read any -rw media, and it may have trouble with -r media that is rated for speeds higher than 1x or 2x. Or it may have trouble only with certain brands. Or it may have trouble with higher-speed media, but only if it was actually burned at a higher speed.
It would probably take some pretty tedious experimentation — in which you'd need your friend's collaboration — to figure out exactly what your drive's capabilities really are, since the manufacturers of these drives aren't very forthcoming with detailed information of that kind. But a simple, basic test you might try is to have your friend burn you something on a 1x or 2x DVD-R disc at 1x burn speed, and see whether that plays. If it does, you may want to go on to further testing. If it doesn't, you'll probably want to buy an external drive to play DVDs on your Powerbook, or else just watch them on a TV set.

  • My disk drive does not play any original dvd or cd anymore, but the copies work fine, no matter which format. Do I need a new disk drive?

    Hello All,
since last week my disk drive does not play any original DVD or CD anymore, but copied ones, no matter which format work fine. I am a bit confused that the copied ones still work.
Anybody experienced the same? Will I have to get a new disk drive? Unfortunately the warranty expired last month
Looking forward to your answers and thanks,
    Yvonne

An external DVD drive from http://www.macsales.com/ may solve your problems.

Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

    thank you kindly.
i find it a bit difficult to track down info for the ASUS motherboards at ASUSTek. so perhaps try using their ASUS Navigation utility to determine if there are any BIOS or chipset driver upgrades available for that model. here's a link through to their download site for the utility:

if you still get the bad behavior from CD/DVD drives after doing any updates indicated at Asus, let's check on your other componentry too.
i had a look at Samsung, and there's a newer TS07 firmware available for your SH-M522C.

  • MY QOSMIO F45 AV425 HD DVD DOESN'T PLAY ANY HD DVD.

Can anyone help me with this issue. My qosmio doesn't play any hd dvd
I've have update the toshiba hd dvd, the broadcom decoder, video and sound card drivers to the latest ones but so far nothing happened.
    Any suggestions?
    !!!!! Help !!!!!!

Ah.. now I had the exact problem with my a205-s6808 satellite. The problem is with the Broadcom decoder, remember it is only optional to install it. So, Uninstall the Broadcom Decoder and restore your HD-DVD player black to the version that came on the disc (I believe it is version 4.33). Now once you have restarted your laptop Windows will ask you to install a 'Multimedia Controller', do not install this driver.
This worked for me, I hope it does for you. Tell me how it goes.

  • Playing any region DVD

    Hi All
At the moment I have a range of region one and region two dvds. I am going on vacation in a few days and would like to be able to play both my region one and region two dvd's on my iBook G4.
Is there any application that you can install onto MAC OS X that enables me to play any region DVD, without having to change the settings on the DVD drive as you are restricted to the number of times yuo can do this before it sticks with the last setting?
Or, is there anyway around this?
    Many thanks
    Garry

You might want to look at this website:
    http://www.macos.utah.edu/Documentation/DVDRegionFree/RegionFree_Main.html
Be very very careful; if you make any changes to the firmware of your DVD/CD drive there is the potential to make it inoperable.

  • Does the iPhone play animated GIFs?

    Hi,
Does the iPhone play animated GIFs? Sorry for asking such a basic question but I can't seem to find the answer on the web or within this forum.
Also how do you implement it into your code? Do you need to use a UIWebView or can you just declare it like a regular png or jpg (e.g. UIImage *image = [[UIImage imageNamed:@"photo.gif"])
    Thanks for any help.

you can play gif in webView ,just the same way you load a jpeg or png..
    NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"santa" ofType:@"gif"];
    NSURL *url = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:path isDirectory:NO];
    /* Load the request. */
    [myWebView loadRequest:[NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url]];
the gif that is locally saved will be loaded.

  • Why can't I play self burned DVD-R disks?

i cannot play self burned DVD+R disks in my Mac PC. Can i load something to play it with?
Thanks, because all my VHS early childrens self made movies  are on this media.

Were your DVDs burned/converted into VIDEO_TS DVDs?
It could also be that you ptical drive has trouble with the DVD+R discs. Some hardware has trouble with the +R discs. I personally have had some trouble with the +R discs in the past. Since I've permanently switched to DVD-R, all problems have disappeared.

Read the small print on your power brick. It handles 110 - 240 volts automatically. All you need is a plug adapter to make your current wall plug fit the European wall sockets.

  • I'm not very techy, so be gentle! i am using midvd app to burn home movies to dvd from iMovie '11 version 9.0.9. It now burns the dvd but there is nothing on the disc. its not recognised by the iMac or any other dvd player.

I was using midvd app(i never had idvd) to make home movies on dvd from imovie '11 version 9.0.9 with no problems before xmas 2013. ive just tried to make a new one today and it wont work.
It seems to burn to the dvd (you can see a mark on the back of the dvd as if it has some info on it) but it wont play on imac (just says blank disc) or any other dvd player.
I have tried reinstalling midvd app and also tried 2 other dvd creator apps and the same thing happens the app says its burning and the external superdrive whirs like its doing something but it wont play.
The only thing i have done since xmas is all the updates to the operationg system and updated imovie (i didnt like the new version so went back to using the previous one)
Any ideas - i am new to all things mac!

When you export your movie from iMovie, are you choosing H.264? That is the only compression method supported by this miDVD. Youc an give this a try first:
Use Share > Export to Quicktime > Movie to Quicktime Movie > choose Options and then make your choices in Settings, etc (you can choose whatever size your video is - mine was 720 HD at that time):
If that does not work, I'd suggest going to their support site as they claim to be able to burn to DVD.... I just checked their site and here is their list of supported file types:

  • My macbook pro does not play any cd/dvd

I have a mac book pro and it does not support any cd/dvd. Some time it runs dvd but only voice not video, dont know what to do or how to resolve this issue. I am out of warranty.

You really shouldn't have to use any special driver to use an external drive - that Western Digital makes it (it seems) a necessity just makes me hate WD drives even more. Over the decades, I've had nothing but problems with WD drives and I no longer purchase them.
If I were you, I would simply ditch the WD drive (if it won't mount without using a special driver) and purchase another brand. I can recommend LaCie (using Seagate drive), and G-TECH and HGST (Hitachi) drives.

  • MPEG4 Movie audio does not end up on burned DVD

When I create a DVD in iMovie, the audio for the MP4 movies does no end up on the DVD. However it is audible in iMovie prior to creating the DVD. The movies were created with a sony camera mpeg4 format. I do not understand why they play in iMovie but not on the burned DVD?? Help.

When in iDVD, use the Delete Encoded Assetts in the Advanced menu. This often clears up any garbage left laying around.
Also my standard list of things to do first for these weird sort of problems, but I also tend to run these before I go to burn an iDVD project just to be safe. Keep in mind this list represents the programs I tend to use. I am running Panther (10.3.9) so Tiger users might want to check the below list for compatibility. There are several alternate programs that do the same things with some combining the functions of some of the ones below. So everyone has their favorites, but here are mine...
Run MacJanitor (free download) to do all the Unix Cron Maintenance scripts.
Run Disk Utility (Applications -> Utilities) and repair disk permissions on your start up drive (typically your internal drive). Also verify any other drives mounted on the system, especially any external drives that you use for iMovie and iDVD projects.
Run Preferential Treatment (free download) to check for corrupt/damaged application and system preference files.
Run Cache Out X (free download) to clear all system and application caches.
Reboot your Mac (after running Cache Out X you are given the option to restart the machine).
If you still can not get it to run correctly, next thing to try is to throw out the iDVD preference file (don't forget to change back those preferences you want different from the defaults next time you run it).

  • What can do to improve the playablilty of a burned DVD?

    Hi,
I have a lot of DVD-coasters laying around. I spent hours working around some iMovie bugs/features and dealt so far with iDVD 5's oddities, and learned how to create a disc image and check the QT movie for stutters/errors. I burned from Disc Utility using Verbatim DVD-R discs at low (4x) speed. I've read through much of these forums trying to fix my DVD-coaster problem. I've learned a lot, but now my family misses me and I miss them, and my DVDs are still not watchable.
    My questions are then:
    1. Is there any piece of the puzzle I'm missing, because my disc plays fine on my Mac but not on my stand-alone DVD player - it plays fine for about 1/3 of the movie and then skips and chokes. This means the DVD burned fine, but cannot be read well enough by the DVD player correct? (Due to whatever... I dunno.)
    2. I've only have one DVD player, a few-years-old Toshiba, so I wonder on what percent of DVD players will this DVD work? Can I send a copy of this DVD to my friends who all presumably have different DVD players? Is there a list of DVD players that work better than others? Any sure things?
The other wrench in this is that a year back I burned some DVDs a similar way (using the same computer, but Staples-brand DVDs) and some worked fine and others didn't of the same project.
    3. Is there any sense in taking the time to re-burn the same disc image onto the same brand disc in hopes that the magic fairies (who I now know are really in charge here) will be good to me, and I'll get a playable disc?
    Thanks,
    Garrett

… you do all recommendations, read here on the board…
    but…
my first dvd-burner war a Pioneer102 (101?), which exactly failed to burn dvds 10 days after end of 2y warrenty… it started with symptoms you're discribing: dvd plays fine on same drive, but stutter/stop after a few minutes on other, standalone players… after a few weeks, DVDs were complete unseen on external drives... then, my audioCD starts to show same symptoms…
bought a new burner - now, everything's fine....
needed to re-burn 2 projects, which I did with burner v1…

  • IDVD will not play my burned DVD lecture!!

I have a DVD for a lecture that I'm supposed to view for work.  This is a burned DVD.  I am ABLE to play this DVD on my DVD player at home but I cannot watch this video on my Macbook Pro using iDVD.  It says "Not Permitted" in a grey screen when you press play.  Is there another DVD program that I can use to watch this DVD on?

Does the DVD play in other players or on other computers?
Try the following basic trouble shooting steps that are mentioned on many posts.
    Save as a disk image
Burn disk image using Disk Utility at a slower speed (2x or 4x)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93006
    Use DVD-R (not +/-RW or +R)
    Use Maxcell or Verbatim disks

This is the only new MBP you can purchase with an integral DVD drive at this time:
