Does the transferring vhs tapes to computer need hard disk g-technology?

Old vhs tapes problems

This is the device I also used to transfer VHS to DV.
You can easily edit these DV files and burn them to a dvd.

Sorry for this question. Can you use this device with Vlc or QuickTime? Does skype support it? Is this device supported only by its own software?
I need a device that can work with my own software. My software can work only with a QuickTime supported device.
Thanks if you will reply to me.

    Hi sarahlovebell21,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you see the "connect to iTunes" screen on your iPhone, that means its in Recovery Mode and needs to be restored.
You can find more information and steps to restore your iPhone here:

I refurbished my macbook air 7 months ago because there was a problem with the steady state drive. Now my battery seems to be dead again. How long does the warranty last? Do I need to pay for a new battery?

As I wrote Apple will diagnose an Apple product even if it is out of warranty for free. That should be your first step to find out if the problem is the battery or something else.
Once you have Apple telling you a 7 month old battery is defective (if that turns out to be the case)  then it becomes a game of horse trading. You'll need to speak to the tech and when he tells you there is nothing he can do you will need to speak to the tech manager and when she says most likely there is nothing they can do you go to the store manager, etc.  It is unlikely (though possible) that they will give in easily you need to be firm, polite and let on that you're willing to accept a partial reimbursement.
So again the first step is to find out what is wrong.
    good luck

No.  The storage is all SSD.
    Ciao.
If you are referring to an optical drive, that is also NOT included.  You would need to connect one externally.

These actions are not performed in the security context of the user.  The Local System / computer account of the Hyper-V Server is what needs the access, not the user.
Also, many AV products will cause these problems if the exclusions are not set properly, as they block the hypervisor from doing its job.

The finder window for an external USB hard disk suddenly started separating files by time (today, yesterday, etc.) and stopped allowing me to change column width, order, etc. Also the header bar shifted to flat white from gray.
All was normal until the icon for the disk stopped showing up on the desktop when I would plug it in. I rebooted the computer, and the disk icon now shows up but this new look to the finder window started as a result. The hard disk does not have this problem when I use it on another Mac running Snow leopard. Also, two other external hard disks that I use on this computer running lion 7.4 still have the normal header bars with columns that can be reordered, etc.
I have tried looking in preferences and other places but have not seen this discussed.

Well duh - I finally figured out that somehow in the View options for the hard drive, the "arrange by" option had been changed to "by date" from "none". Not sure how that happened, I had never used the "view options" menu tem before. Changing "arrange by" back to "none" gets the gray column headers and the collapsible folder icons back.

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • Transferring VHS tapes

I am transferring some of my VHS tapes to my iMac and iMovie (using a hones tech converter) with the plan to make them into DVD's. I have transferred a tape, made the edit, but the only thing I see is to just "burn a dvd". This could only be played on a mac computer. Is there any way to change the format so the dvd can be played on a dvd player?
Also, when I have the new dvd, how do I delete that entire import in iMovie. It just keeps appearing.
    Thanks

So, I need a converter and a DVD recorder?
No, just one or the other. If you plan to edit the files and own a DV camcorder, I would check the manual to see it it has a passthrough option than can be used as a converter. (E.g., both my Mini-DV HDR-HC3 and older Hi-8/Digital-8 TRV-DCR520 will do this.) If you need a fixed conversion station, then a DAC or EyeTV device might be better. (E.g., I keep a Canopus ADVC300 connected to my entertainment system for capturing TV/Sat programs by a very old 400 MHz Ti Powerbook.
In the past I have made DVDs that I can't play anywhere except on the TV that the recorder is connected to. I know other people who have the same problem, but I have also spoken to some who can play their recorded DVDs on anything. I have tried several different DVDs, but that didn't work either. My recorder is about 2 years old.
Once recoded to DVD, the DVDs can be played back on your computer using the Apple DVD player, the VIDEO_TS files can be copied to your computer hard drive and played back by either the DVD Player or Front Row. In addition, applications like MPEG Streamclip or VLC can play the VOB files. It is also possible to Convert the VOB files to other compression formats for editing but the quality may not be as good as converting directly from your VHS tapes to DV (or other compression format). It is all just a matter of having the right applications/components installed on your system.
So, if I purchase a DVD recorder with new technology, will this solve my problem?
It probably is not necessary to purchase a new DVD recorder -- merely having the correct software to process the DVD encoded data. Appleman's sample video demonstrates what you can expect going through MPEG-2 whether using an EyeTV device or a DVD recorder. And depending on the VHS source quality, a DAC like the ADVC300 going directly to DV might be marginally better.

  • Audio Drift when importing VHS Tapes-Do I need a Canopus ADVC 300

Embarking on the daunting task of importing/editting >100 2hr VHS tapes, and want to get the best results for my efforts.
I pop a tape into a VCR connected via S-Video (video) and RCA (audio) cables to a Sony DVMC-DA1 AD converter, and from there to my Mac Pro via Firewire. Use FCE "Capture Now" using NTSC DV Converter setup. Start capture, let it run unattended, and return at my leisure to do some rough editting.
Problem is the audio on the imported clip gradually loses sync, by about 2 seconds by the end of the clip. The sync problem is present on the clip when played with Quicktime as well.
    Questions:
    1. Is there a reasonable way to correct this in FCE?
    2. Since my Sony converter is nearing 10 years old, will use of a more recent AD converter such as the Canopus ADVC 300 result in a perfectly synced import?
    3. If so, can you comment on the Canopus's purported video noise reduction and image stabilization capabilities? Is it noticable/worthwhile?
    Thanks for your time.

    Hello,
The problem is the audio is not 'locked' to the video, and your old Sony DVMC-DA1 does not appear to support locked audio.
The only way you might deal with this in FCE itself would be to capture shorter clips (say, under 15 minutes each) which would minimize the degree to which the audio drifts out of sync in each clip. (The longer the clip, the greater the drift.)
Given the large amount of video you wish to digitize (some 200 hours), it will be far preferable to use a Canopus ADVC-100, 110 or higher model - +they all support DV locked audio+ - so the video & audio are sync'd without the need for manual intervention or capturing short clips.
I have used the Canopus 100 & 110 extensively and have been very happy with the results. Sometimes, depending on the VHS tape, there is some slight banding at the very bottom of the image but 1) this is +usually not visible+ in the finished movie because it is outside the 'image safe area' and 2) if necessary can be compensated via about a 2%-4% enlargement of the image in FCE (which is not enough to soften the image).
I have not used the Canopus 300 because I never felt the need, as I am happy with my results from the 100 & 110. Users of the 300 have been pretty positive about its built-in TBC and image cleaning capabilities.

  • Transferring VHS tape to DVD

What is required to transfer VHS tapes from a VCR to DVD? Special cable to go from VCR to my Mac?
    Thanks for any advice.
    Brian

The easiest way to do it is to bypass the computer altogether and get yourself a DVD recorder. Then you just hook up the two units and do a machine to machine dubb
If you don't want to go that route (mind you, DVD recorders are getting pretty cheap) you will have to find a way to bring your analog (VHS) sources into the digital world
One way: A DV converter like the Canopus. Will allow you to do a Capture Now from your VCR thru the Canopus into the puter. You could also use a DV cam as a pass thru device; analog from the VCR to the cam, Firewire from the cam to the puter.
Once you have the tapes in the puter you have to get them into MPEG2 (DVD) format. You can do that by Exporting as Quicktime Movie and dropping the resulting file into iDVD and making a DVD there
This is more steps and more time than using a DVD Recorder but it gives you mo options; like cleaning up the analog signal a little (the newest Canopus converters have TBCs) and using FC/iDVD to create chapters, menus, etc

  • Rip old VHS tapes onto Computer (possible?)

I wanted to know if it is possible to take old home movies, say from the 80's and somehow get this VHS footage onto my computer. Is there a firewire/usb device I could buy just for this function?
    I don't have a video camera.

Seeing as my parents have a horrible DVD player, couldn't I just buy a decent DVD recorder/player (I can find some for about $100) and just record my vhs tapes onto DVD and then rip the DVD content onto my computer? It would involve a purchase of the recorder but I could justify it as a xmas gift to my parents.
I would call that a Hattrick!
I do own such a device, some Pioneer HD/DVDstandalone corder... excellent! it offers some basic editing, even import via firewire (camcorders); ok, the DVDmenus look horrible! ("design" is a cultural determined thing...); and I do record my TVprogram for a week and watch later, no ads... or, I use excessively that time-shift feature: my favorite show (CSI) starts exactly, when it's nighty-nighty time for my son... so, daddy watches 20min later
as often said here: imports from DVD are lossy, a process of high computation (=time), less convenient... but.. for a "private" project? and a new, state-of-the-art dvd player as a gift? perfect!
here's my list of apps for converting DVDs >> dv (iMovie)
DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
    * Apple mpeg2 plugin (20$) + Streamclip (free)
    * Cinematize >60$
    * Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    * Toast6/7 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k

  • Does the time capsule act as an external hard drive too?

I haven't got the time capsule but I'm thinking about getting it but I want to know does it Work as an external hard drive too, so can you store things like music files and things on there and access them anytime?

It cannot be plugged in via usb.. only by ethernet.. so it is not really external hard disk.. it is network storage but not a NAS.. it is designed purely as a target for Time Machine backups.. primarily for laptops with wireless only connections.. eg MBA as they do not have ethernet.
As a place to store files the TC can be pressed into service but is really poor in having no automated method to back itself up.. and they do die which leaves them a sealed unit which Apple refuse to fix or open even to recover your data.
Buy a NAS from any of the major companies.. if you want Network storage..
Buy a USB drive from any of the major companies if you want something to plug into your computer for storage.
TC is neither.. arthur or martha.

  • Does the desktop creative cloud folder take up hard drive space?

I know this is proabaly a stupid question but does the creative cloud file folder use hard drive space. So in other words, I place a 24MB picture in that Creative Cloud File folder to sync with my cloud files and other devices. Is it taking up 24MB of space on my macbook air? For some reason my brain is not processing this. There must be some advantage to storage and some type of preview instead of fully storing the file on my local computer but just checking to see how this works. Thanks.

It's a folder on your HD.  And just like any other folder on your HD it occupies space.  The more content you have inside it, the more space it takes.
