Does this imply generation 1 was not up to the task?

I just find it a very odd thing to say - even without a reference to the old unit it didn't always work optimally.
Navigation was always painful with it, though I'm not one to FF/RW frequently in movies.
I would hope that even streaming on a local network it might have the ability to cache a whole video in solid state memory, which would hopefully have better random access times than the old hard drive.
It would seem logical to cache a whole video, even if a few GB, to allow better navigation performance than that potentially limited by wi-fi, and also to transfer the video in one fell swoop rather than short bursts to refill the stream buffer as we used to see on the old unit.
