Does Tiger for PPC include classic?

I want to run classic inside of Tiger but I need to know if I need to upgrade from panther, or does Tiger include classic.

Tiger includes the program that is able to run a Mac OS 9.1 or higher System Folder as Classic. If that Mac OS 9 System Folder is not present, Classic will not load. If you attempt to erase and install your operating system, you will lose that System Folder, and be required to reload it another way.
Macs of different ages have different capabilities when it comes to Classic. The dates below are when specific models were released as new Macs according to the spec pages:

11/1997-7/2002 The G3 and G4 Macs released during this period (except the original G3/250 Powerbook) can use the 9.2.1 retail installer disc to install Mac OS 9. If they shipped with a version of 9, they can only use a newer retail version of 9 to install 9 for use with the Classic environment. A minimum of 9.1 needs to be installed to use Classic. Pre-Firewire Powermac G4s which shipped during the next time period also have this ability if they were 867 Mhz or faster.
1/2003-12/2005 The machines which shipped new during this period (except the PowerMac G4 pre-Firewire 800 which could boot into 9) could only use Classic, and thus once upgraded to Leopard can't use Classic anymore. If you kept a separate partition or booted off an external hard drive that had Tiger they could continue to use Classic. 1/2006 - present Intel Macs which shipped during this time period can't use Classic at all.

The Mac & iOS Numbers are two separate applications for two different operating systems. You need to buy both.

I tried my black OS X 10.4.6 CDs on a G4 yesterday specifically to see if an install from disk 1 only is possible. Sadly it is not. It requires about 400 GB from disk 2 no matter how minimal you try to make it. My disk 2 contains the following and the install needs everything except languages:

Whether they are suitable for creating a Timelapse sequence without significant flicker is entirely subjective and up to you - and of course, dependant on your specific images & how they change over time. Sorry, not much advice beyond try PV2012, and revert back to PV2010 if you get too much flicker.

I'm helping a friend get his computer back and he obviosly needs to install an updated OS.....I believe for the following specs, Tiger is a viable option. Anyone have a copy lying around? Is it still available through Apple?

minimum system requirements
    * 512MB of memory (I say 1.5GB for PPC at least, 2-3GB minimum for IntelMacs)
    * DVD drive for installation
    * 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
You have to call Apple & likely ask for a Product Specialist to get it, if they still have it! Helps to tell them you have an iPad/iPhone & you can't run 10.6.

No.. You can buy the Compressor (along with Mainstage) via the App Store as a separate download but STP and Waveburner are discontinued products. Some of STP's functionality can now be found in Final Cut Pro X...
Note: Mainstage, Compressor, Waveburner and STP were part of the full version of Logic Studio 2.0 (which also included Logic Pro 9 ) and sold for $999 compared to Logic Pro X which retails at $200...
The Apple loops/Jam packs that came as part of Logic Studio 2.0 now come free with Logic Pro X (and did so with the Appe store version of Logic Pro 9) .. as part of the additional downlaod

I am looking through the SOA 11g release information and it does not appear to include a license for the WebLogic server. Can anyone confirm that I need to license the appropriate WebLogic 11g base to run SOA Suite 11g on separately. I wish I could find a definitive statement about this on the Oracle web site or in documentation.

Good point. There used to be some (licensing) clarity in the sense that Oracle's middleware applications (i.e. things higher in the middleware food chain) required the underlying Oracle stack and thus the embedded license scenario.
Perhaps (and somewhat ironically) the situation gets more cloudy now that OFM is really and truly "hot pluggable" (i.e. in the sense you can run on other vendor or OSS containers for instance).
Architecturally, I respect Oracle's Hot Pluggable stance and think it's the right thing to do, but practically-speaking I always advise use of Oracle's container etc. because that is naturally where the development and most intense QA and support occurs. This is not to say that Oracle doesn't support other hosting options well, only that the laws of physics (still) apply.

1.5 is the latest for PPC & 32 bit Intel Macs.

AppleWorks, Tiger and OS 9-Classic

I have just had a system crash-long story - finally erased hard drive and started from scratch. I installed Tiger which apparently no longer includes Classic (OS 9). A good thing, I thought - didn't like having it take up space on the hd. At least I didn't think I did. However, AppleWorks 6 will not install - it keeps looking for Classic. Now what do I do? I still have a System 9 cd from when it was the newest system. Do I dare install it? Or is there a newer version of AppleWorks that doesn't need Classic?

I like iWork, it is a wonderful application, but did I every say it was better? I don't think so. What I said was, unless you need AppleWorks for the spreadsheet application then it is worth switching to iWork.
iWork has a much better word processor and presentation software. The graphics are immensely better and so are the templates. To reiterate what I said, unless you need the spreadsheet I'd go with iWork.

All I did was simply suggest an alternate software suite instead of AppleWorks that may better Jsorell.
Please don't take this as a personal insult, which you've obviously done. This post was discussed over two weeks ago and if all you wanted to do was help Jsorell you'd have realized the post had ended and there was not need to post.

Does Tiger support 4TB drives?

I bought a 4TB Western Digital MyBook external drive for use with a server running Tiger. According to WD's website, it should be supported on any Mac OS from 10.4.10 and up. However, neither this server nor another 10.4.11 machine I tried it on recognize the drive, instead prompting me to initialize it on insertion. In Disk Utility, it shows up as 2TB with no volumes.
But the drive is in fact pre-formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled), and is 4TB, which I verified by connecting it to another machine running 10.6.2. Clearly WD's specs are wrong, but.. is it simply impossible to get any flavor of Tiger to recognize a 4TB drive?

I think the problem might be the Interface though, what does it use?
I've also read of several having problems with 2TB size Drives.
Oh, and were the drives maybe Formatted using GUID Partition scheme, that'd prevent any PPC Mac from using them, APM Partition will work for PPC or IntelMacs.

Game does not run well in Classic

On one of my computers, I am still running Panther and OS 9. The only reason for this is that I have an old mahjong (OS 9) game which I like quite much. When I upgraded to Tiger, I also installed Classic and I could run the game, but on certain actions, the game always stuck.
Does this make any sense? Can I install Classic in Tiger in a way that the game will run without any problem?
FYI:
- friends of mine had exactly the same problem with this game when upgrading to Tiger
- I cannot contact the manufacturer of the game. It is Japanese and on their site there is neither an e-mail address nor a fax number (if they would understand English at all).

Classic works... most of the time. Maybe 85-90% of apps have no problems, and most of the ones which have problems also have work-arounds. Unfortunately the ones which have problems and no work-arounds usually have those problems because of a decision made back in basic design, and there is no cure short of re-writing the app from scratch. Which is not going to happen with, for example, a game dating from 1989 whose vendor went out of business in the early 90s, and which was picked up by another vendor, who went out of business in the mid 90s. (Yes, Harpoon, I'm talking about you. It eats 100% of CPU cycles on a 2.1GHz G5 iMac and gigs upon gigs of RAM and then freezes for lack of system resources, when I know that it'll run on a 25MHz IIsi in 17MB RAM because I used to play it on that hardware... Grrr... The 'This game requires 256 colors' screen which pops up forcing me to reduce the colour settings from millions to 256 really irritates, too. Grrr...) But those decisions were taken by others, not by Apple, and usually those decisions directly ignored Apple's advice. (The 256-color pop-up, for example: Apple said that it was okay to check for required colour levels, so long as the required level was the floor; these guys also made it the ceiling which is a no-no. And the concept of 'memory leak' was alien to them. I suspect that there's a reason why they went bust.)
