Does Timecapsule support WPS encryption?
Does Timecapsule support WPS encryption? I have a Canon MP620 printer/scanner that I want to connect to my wireless network. My Timecapsule is set up with WPA encryption.
WPS is not encryption. It an automated method to pass security settings between a wireless router and a client device. It is actually a big security hole.. I strongly recommend not using it.. but the TC does have WPS.
It is via the utility (which one.. 5.6 or 6.0 or 6.1 I do not know). Add wireless clients.
I have never used it.. on any router and in any computer.. due to the huge security hole this makes.. The idea is good.. poor people want security but are too stupid to follow a list of instructions, so make it easy.. just press a button and wham.. all security is done for you. But the moment you try that.. automatic security means there is another way for someone to hack your system.. you have provided a wonderful passkey 64 characters long with an 8 character pin code.. which is handled in two chunks which is dead easy to hack.

So end conclusion to all that.. you don't need WPS to setup your printer.. Use the setup disk, and manually type in the wpa2 personal passkey you have setup on the TC. (WPA is far less secure and messy as it is combined WPA + WPA2).

I am using a Verizon-supplied Westell 7500 modem/router. Works fine in wired mode. Furthermore, they sent me the 7500 after I requested a router that supports WPA2. (My old Westell 327W did not support it.) I thought that it might be possible that my 7500 isn't running the latest firmware http://westell.com/support/versalink/a90-750015-07, but I'm running v. 5.01.00.02, which appears to be the most recent update. Can anyone tell me why that Pre-Authentication checkbox is grayed out? If I want WPA2 encryption, is my alternative to buy another router?

Go to Solution.Pre-Authentication is used for WPA2-Enterprise. Using WPA2 AES with Pre-Shared Key will work fine and is what you are trying to accomplish. So yes, Westell 7500 will do WPA2.

I’ve used several wireless printers with a 4510 and 5510 Jetpack and they all print just fine. The MHS890L does not support WPS. The WPS Wikipedia article briefly addresses the reason why you should not use WPS. If you’re having trouble setting up your printer the manufacturer has a toll free support line to help you. Your Jetpack has the Wi-Fi Password on the bottom, under the battery, and or in the LED display.

Also you can write adpater modules using the PGP toolkit to encrypt the messages.
I don't think XI has pre-shipped archives for PGP. You may have to import the required archives.

The network does not support the requested encryption method
Prior to last night, I had connected to several wireless networks without issue, so I know my computer can do it. The issue started after I reinstalled the operating system. I connected to my friends wireless network last night with no problems, using the password. My system was having other unrelated problems so I decided to reinstall the operating system since the computer had just had a new hard drive put in anyway. Then when I tried to get online after everything was up and running, I couldn't.
Wireless networks show up fine, but when I go to log in, enter the password and hit connect, after a second I get the error message : "The network "name" does not support the requested encryption method". I've scoured the help topics, searched high and low, and tried everything. Please help

Since updating OS to Mountain Lion from leopard, I get the following error message when trying to backup with time machine on external drive. "Could not complete backup to media share. The network backup disk does not support the required AFP features." What are AFP features and how do I get Time Machine to backup to my current external backup?
This means that your NAS does not support the required encryption. Update your NAS to the latest firmware or ditch it and buy a Time Capsule (they are the most reliable when using TM).
